Whumptober Day 25

Surgery - Stitches - Being Monitored - "It's for your own good."

So a while ago I wrote an interaction between Whumper and Whumpee and a struggle with LGBQTA+. I really wanted to write one for Caretaker and Whumpee now.

Subjects of hate towards LGBQTA+ body disphoria and self harm included. Distorted thinking Whumpee.

Caretaker had left Whumpee in the living room while they answered a call in their office. They had been watching TV together, and Caretaker didn't pay attention to the time as that episode had ended, and the news was on. Caretaker didn't want Whumpee watching the news yet, especially if he was out of the room.

"The news is normally 95% bad news, with the remaing 5% holding weather and one good story they had managed to find", Caretaker often said, "I don't think you are at the point of recovery to watch that yet."

Whumpee didn't know much about the television. Whumpee was never allowed to watch television but would sneak listening to it while doing chores for Whumper.

Whumper would often say that nonhumans shouldn't have the right to watch television. All they were good for was taking care of the chores and being used as a punching bag.

Another commercial started, Whumpee reached for a glass of water Caretaker had offered them. They took small sips, they were working with Caretaker on their apprehension of consuming things made by other people. They had been poisoned way to often by Whumper.

The news came back on. It started by introducing a specialist and a Reverend. They were talking about the wrongs of transgenderism and other people of the LGBQTA+.

This startled Whumpee, they had never heard anything like this. They accidentally dropped the glass to the floor. Water and glass went everywhere.

Caretaker jumped at the sound. They were nervous Whumpee had gotten hurt.

"I'm sorry I just heard something break in the other room, is there any way we can discuss this more on Monday, I'll have a nurse here to take care of Whumpee", Caretaker apologized, "okay thankyou I'll call on Monday, bye."

Whumpee looked down nervously, the glass and water covered the carpet and up the side of the couch.

They slid down to the floor, not paying attention to the glass sticking into their legs. They had to clean... this...up, they zoned out. They looked at a piece of glass.

The people were still talking on the TV.

"Am I bad?", Whumpee questioned, "Whumper says bad people get punished, maybe if I do it Caretaker will be merciful to me. They looked at the glass again, then scraped I against their skin. The cut started to gush.

Caretaker ran in just in time to stop Whumpee from cutting their arm again.

"Whumpee!", Caretaker yelled, startling them.

Whumpee looked at him in terror.

"I'm sorry for startling you, but what are you doing? What happened?", Caretaker noticed all of the glass covering the carpet, and now blood was dripping from Whumpee.

"I'm a bad person, sir. I was told bad people get punished. I thought if I did it, you would be merciful to me for breaking that cup and...and."

Caretaker stepped closer, "and what Whumpee?", he gently pulled the glass from their fingers.

Whumpee pointed at the television.

Caretaker read the headline, and realized.

"Whumpee are you part of the LGBQTA+ community", Caretaker studied them.

Whumpee looked at the their arm, "I don't know. I think I am, but I don't know", they looked at him feaefully, "is that wrong?"

Caretaker frowned at the question, "I should have turned the TV off. Let's get you cleaned up, then we can talk about it. You are bleeding really bad."

Caretaker carried Whumpee out of the glass, and into his office.

Whumpee watched Caretaker clean and patch up the wounds.

"I'm glad you didn't go any deeper, you just barely missed needing stitches. That's a dangerous thing to cut yourself. Especially with a jagged piece of glass", Caretaker finished the bandages, then cleaned the tiny cuts on their legs and hands.

"I would like to clean up the living room before I talk with you", Caretaker sighed, "I need you to stay here, and not move. You are under a self harm watch as of now."

Whumpee looked down and nodded, "are you mad at me sir?"

"No Whumpee, a little disappointed, but I'm not mad. I'm mostly mad at myself for leaving the TV on", Caretaker sighed, "I will be right back, do not move."

Whumpee lifted their legs to their chest and waited. They kept replaying what had happened.

"I'm so confused, bad people get punished, am I bad. Now Caretaker is mad at me", Whumpee teared up.

Caretaker came back in, "okay the living room is cleaned, thankyou for not moving", he grabbed his computer, "I need to document a few things, then we need to talk."

Whumpee looked up and nodded.

Caretaker handed them a tissue, "it's okay, you are not in trouble, I'm just worried about you."

"But you are mad at me sir", Whumpee stated a little louder than they intended.

Caretaker sighed, "I'm not mad at you, just at the situation. This is why I didn't want you to watch the news yet."

"Is it bad to be gay, is that why you are upset?", Whumpee started to get more upset.

Caretaker looked at them sadly, "okay we are going to start there. I am not upset. If you believe you are gay or any part of the LGBQTA+ family, then I support that. I wish I had known sooner, though, so I could pull some resources together to help you."

"What do you mean?", Whumpee wiped their eyes with another tissue.

"I support the LGBQTA+ community fully. I would be considered an ally. Unfortunately, I don't specialize in that subject though", Caretaker reached for a journal, "I have therapists for anything you can think of, including this."

"Therapist for this", Whumpee watched Caretaker flip through the journal.

"Yes, they can help you learn more about yourself, and you can open up to them and ask questions", Caretaker tapped on a page, "how did you learn that you may be LGBQTA+ anyways."

"There was a magazine, Whumper was irritated one day and threw it at me and told me to read it and leave them alone", Whumpee looked down, "there was an article that talked about it, and I felt like.... I don't know."

"Okay, that helps", Caretaker smiled, "would you like to talk to my friend? They may be able to help you figure out some things, and help you learn more about yourself."

Whumpee nodded.

"Okay great, I'll set up the appointment", Caretaker smiled, "let's forget what we heard on the TV. They don't know anything anyways."

"They don't? They said they were specialists", Whumpee frowned.

"People like to call themselves that to make themselves feel better and get people to pay attention to them", Caretaker typed a few things into his computer, "let's stick to the specialists I know, as they have been tried and true."

"Next means of business is what happened, tell me everything up until I came in", Caretaker looked from his computer again, "this is what will tell me if you are safe to be off my self harm watch."

"I was watching the TV, and had some thoughts of how I was never allowed to watch a TV before and would sneak and listen to it. The commercials started, I took a few sips of the water", Whumpee stopped and watched Caretaker as they took notes.

"Please don't mind me, I have to document for your care. Also, for your checkups with the district", Caretaker smiled lovingly, "you're alright."

"When the news came back on, they introduced those two people. I read it and listened and was startled by it and dropped the cup. I slid down in hopes of cleaning it. I didn't realize my legs were getting cut up though", Whumpee looked at the bandages covering their legs, "I had picked up a piece of glass... watched the TV and remembered what Whumper had said. Bad people get punished, I think I zoned out."

Whumpee paused for a second to think.

"I thought you would punish me for breaking the glass, and...", Whumpee stopped, "and for being gay. I thought if I started it, you would be merciful."

Caretaker finished typing, "anything else?"

"I cut right after that, then you came in", Whumpee looked at their arm.

Caretaker looked over the notes, "do you feel safe right now, or do you still think you deserve a punishment, I want to know if I can trust you to be off my watch."

"Sir, I don't know, I don't want to be a bother, but I don't know what to think either. I feel confused", Whumpee buried their head into their arms and started to cry, this was becoming too much.

Caretaker set down their computer and went to sit next to Whumpee. They pulled them into a hug.

"I'm sorry", Whumpee sobbed.

Caretaker rubbed their back comfortingly.

"You do not need to feel bad, and you will never bother me", Caretaker comforted, "I'm deciding to keep you on a self harm watch, I think if you are feeling confused I need to make moves to keep you safe. Are you okay with that?"

"Yes sir", Whumpee sobbed again, "what does that mean though?"

"I will keep a closer watch over you until the alert is lifted", Caretaker patted their hand comfortingly, "I just want to make sure you are okay."

Whumpee looked down, "that seems like a lot more work for you sir, I'm sorry."

"I'm not put in charge of you for an easy paycheck", Caretaker went back to their computer and typed a few more notes, "I'm here to help you and make sure you are okay."

Whumpee still felt bad about the situation and kept their eyes to the floor.

Caretaker looked up and realized they were sounding irritated with them, and that was not helping comfort Whumpee.

"Whumpee?"

"Y-yes sir", Whumpee forced themself to look up.

"I promise you, I am not mad at you, I should have paid better attention to the television, and that was my fault", Caretaker set their computer to the side, "you are still in recovery from a horrible situation, and are not expected to know any better. What Whumper did to you and forced you to believe was wrong, and we will work on that. Right now, though, I have to ensure you are okay and kept safe, that is my job."

Whumpee nodded.

"Don't be afraid of bothering me, I am here for you. I am part of your support system, and as we go, we will add more to your system. The next person we are going to add to that is an LGBQTA therapist, and I will call them on Monday", Caretaker reached for a pen and notepad.

"Is there any notes that I can tell them? Anything on what you feel your identity is", Caretaker tried to engage Whumpee.

"I don't know", Whumpee looked down, "I still feel confused and scared by all of this."

Caretaker felt their heart drop a little, "okay how about we take a break from this, we can revisit if you are feeling up to later. We can also wait to talk to the therapist as well if you like."

Whumpee nodded.

"Come on, let's go to the living roo.. oh, it's probably drying still. Um", Caretaker thought for a second, then thought of something, "I got it."

Whumpee looked up nervously.

"Come with me please", Caretaker stood up, and started to leave the office.

Whumpee quickly stood up and nervously followed.

Caretaker led them into the kitchen.

Whumpee watched nervously, this had happened several times with Whumper.

Caretaker pulled out a package from the fridge.

"I'm not much of a baker, but I love these cookie dough packages, because I like cookies", Caretaker pulled out a baking tray, "do you want to help me bake these, maybe by the time they're done we can go to the living room and watch a movie."

Whumpee watched them get the cookies opened and start setting them on the tray.

Caretaker turned to them and smiled, "we can come back to this tomorrow. We may feel refreshed and ready to tackle it."

"I'm tired of feeling lost and confused", Whumpee looked down, "every memory I have is bad."

Caretaker nodded with understanding, "when I was young, my mom was a very good baker. I remember always going into the kitchen to try to help her bake. Secretly I was just trying to lick the spoons when she was done with them. I probably would have benefited greatly if I knew how to bake. She was amazing. These cookies remind me of being in the kitchen with her, because you can safely eat the dough without getting sick."

Caretaker picked up a piece of raw cookie dough and ate it.

"We can work together to remake memories for you. I want you to be able to look back on these times and remember being happy", Caretaker reached for another piece of cookie dough. This time handing it to Whumpee, "do you want to try to work towards that?"

Whumpee shakily took the cookie and nibbled off the corner.

They smiled weakly at Caretaker, "yes", they whispered.

"Okay, I'm glad to hear that. Now, let's get these in the oven. We can pick out a movie and relax for tonight", Caretaker smiled.

What is the Best Doctor Who Story Ever Told?

Hello everybody and welcome to this, frankly ridiculously sized, tournament between not only every televised Doctor Who story, not only the spinoffs, not only a large number of minisodes, but over a 100 audios and dozens of other stories from other corners of the EU.

Now we will have to whittle over 600 stories down to jusst one, that is a lot of matches, a lot of rounds, just a lot, until very late in the game, rounds will be posted across several days. Right now the goal is to post (up to) new matches daily from Sunday to Thursday, with Friday's a day off for my own sake, which in my current plan places the final on the 18th of December (thats right, this'll be out of date before its even over, during round 2 in fact)

To the world, sincerely, a tired black artists and my fellow creatives

A lot of the weird demonization of Rema’s visuals really made me sad. I’m not surprised at the lack of cultural knowledge about Edo people and Benin City, Nigeria — virtually everywhere outside of the continent, African history, culture and traditions aren’t taught unless you are in special programs or majors. But to call something demonic and satanic because you don’t understand? The blatant xenophobia and racism has me so furious. I know we have a lot of unlearning to do, but I had imagined that the colonial ways of viewing black Africans was not alive and thriving amongst the diaspora. To see so many black Christian’s come together in the name of their white gods and forced religion to call something so sentimental, historically important and significant for Rema and many others demonic is like having a weird ‘dejavu’.

Everyday I think about how I see too many people complain about lack of representation of black people from all around the world in media; wether it be movies, tv, fiction, music genre and other industries predominantly white — and now, given visuals and such cool performance, we do as our oppressors once did. Word for word. It’s disgusting and I hope everybody who partook educated themselves and do better.

When will my people know peace when it comes to trying to share, showcase and be proud of what we’ve created? I never forgot how Fufu became a laughing stock, how so many still mock their parents pronunciations knowing that’s their third of even fourth language. And don’t let me start on Nollywood or the diasporic movie industries — why must you laugh when you don’t understand? Question things, yes, be curious and explore. But mocking?

To all my fellow Africans and black people of the diaspora— one day, we will be in a world where we’re known for more then our struggles. Where were not mocked for our ‘incorrect’ speech of languages violently forced upon us, that we adapted to fit who we are and our origins. One day we will have peace; no more silent genocides, or loud ones. No more having to hide our roots, traditions, practices, art/creations. Be ashamed of any aspects of our culture that does not warrant shame.

I ask that if you want representation, you seek it out because trust me it is out there. The continent has so many creations — sure some harder to find or consume due to language barriers but we all witnessed K-drama’s boom. You can watch French, Spanish and English films — so why are subtitles not good enough when it’s in Igbo? Xhosa? Wolof? Zulu? Bafang?

I ask that everybody, including myself, start to give africa it’s flowers. The more we pour into the good — art, creations, industries etc that inspire more to create and expand, the more we will see the uprise of what has always been within the continent but never given much thought by most of the world because it is African and the quality is regarded as ‘lesser’.

And I hope I get to witness more great artist come from all around the motherland, and be part amongst them when I eventually complete my African/Black centered work ✌🏾

Calling them BABY.

Calling someone "baby" who isn't a baby.

This is an insult.

Not because babies are evil, but because they're not babies.

It would be odd to want to still be a baby. Babies wear diapers, shit theirselves, are helpless, don't move around on their own, and have to be completely taken care of by another.

Hearing two people, especially married, call each other "baby" just sounds like they have a fetish as adults for this kind of crap.

It's in our music.

I'm currently even listening to it in a song as i type this. I like the beat of the song, the sounds, but the lyrics are shit. It makes me feel upset, apathetic.

I imagine a child in the room listening to it, looking at me when I know better, as i basically listen to a song that is singing about fucking the baby and treating it with disrespect, telling it that it must "give me love". I'm listening to Calm Down by Rema and Selena Gomez.

It makes me want to rip myself apart.

I just want to die rather than live in this hell.

But i suffer anyway, and listen to this rather than silence and my thoughts.

Better to live in a sick fantasy than hear the truth that i can't fix.

It's like smoking cigarettes all day, listening to this music and watching the tv, and reading all the shitty children books that are often just as bad.

Either stupid or sinful, a book normalizing bullying. That's the kind of shit i got for "entertainment". The things i wanted as a kid and i guess i didnt know better, and my family just bought the stuff for me, read it with me, watched the shows with me, listened to the music with me.
