old ask from last year i forgot to respond to.. apologies! i hope this can answer your questions, i wasnt sure how to answer it. the question confuses me

being songkin is cool, or at least i think so. i like it a lot, music is a HUGE part of my life and i would not be who i am without it. music is something i listen to constantly, anytime i can, it is always surrounding me. i think it makes sense that im am a song myself as well. i cant really remember how i found out, it was likely a "wait, this feels like me. it feels right to call myself this song" and that was that. i like listening to that song, its a really good one. also one of my only forms i am comfortable with referring to with third person pronouns. i love that whole album! i am demo 4 of the mind electric. mental shifts are weird, i just want to call myself demo or demo4, sometimes dem, in those moments and listen to hawaii part II again. ive tried to draw a humanoid version of that form of myself but im yet to make it feel right lol. i just want to draw myself and use that as icons but its difficult when i have no visible form.. besides the album cover art

being conceptkin is actually both pretty similar and pretty different from that. i am christmas, sometimes call myself the concept of christmas or the christmas spirit. mental shifts for this one are usually very strong and last a while, i like to look at christmas-y things, listen to christmas music, and wear christmas clothing. i do have a humanoid form i represent myself with during christmas shifts though, since its easier for icons and artwork. but also i am a reindeer, the christmas kind of reindeer, which is heavily tied to me being christmas. i wouldnt be a reindeer if i wasnt also christmas!

Therianthropy Alphabet

A - awakening

I always remember running around pretending to be a deer and always drawing/seeing myself as a deer. I used to push these away when I was older and never thought about it until I realized that therianthropy was a thing and I wasn’t the only one experiencing it. After that I narrowed my theriotype down to a caribou (yes, I know there are subspecies but they’re all very similar so I just say caribou).

B - balance

My therianthropy affects the way I communicate with other people, and my hobbies. It doesn’t affect my work/school/life balance as much, aside from little “quirks” like being afraid of loud noises, being very attached to people, etc

C - city

I don’t live in a city, I live in a rural area, which I’m very grateful for.

D - diary

I do have an alter human diary! It’s mostly just documenting shifts or drawing, and also functions as a regular journal.

E - experience in the community

I’ve had an extremely positive experience in the alterhuman community on Tumblr, and I’m eternally grateful for this because it helped me untangle my therianthropy identity and figure out who I am. Other social media platforms, not so much.

F - friends

None of my friends know I’m a therian, but I have a friend who is a furry who I think suspects.

G - gear

I don’t really feel the need for gear, but I get why people like it. If I had enough money, I might look into buying something, but mostly gear is centered around foxes/wolves/cats, and it would be hard to find caribou gear. I would have to buy a commission which is very expensive.

I - identity

I only have one theriotype, which is a caribou. I’ve yet to meet another caribou, but I have met so many other deer, who have all been super cool!

J - jokes

I love making little jokes about my identity, because it is very silly if you think about it.

K - knowldege

On a scale of 1-10, I would say my knowledge of alterhumanity is a 7 or 8. I still have a lot to learn.

L - liking, loving

I don’t think I could’ve had a “better” theriotype, a caribou is a lovely animal that I am grateful to be.

N - nature

My theriotype lives in northern parts of North America, and in Europe. They are migratory, so they don’t have one specific territory or anything.

O - otherhearted

Tbh I don’t really know the difference between otherhearted and therianthropy but I don’t think I’m otherhearted.

P - popularity

My theriotype isn’t very popular (unless it’s Christmas). Fun fact: in North America, caribou are called reindeer when they’re domesticated, but in Europe, they’re always called reindeer.

R - real body

I get species dysphoria from time to time.

S - sex

I never really thought about the sex of my theriotype? It’s kind of hard to tell really.

T - traits

-fear of loud noises/sudden noise

-foraging for food (gardening mostly)

-head butting things

-communicating with grunts, moving my head, pointing with my feet, or flicking my “ears” (that don’t exist bc phantom shift)

-running/hiking in the woods and swimming

-flight instinct

I think this question was centered more towards therians with prey drive instincts, because my urges are mostly just to run away, swim in random bodies of water, eat the grass, and restlessness.

I like zoos that are there for protection of a species or rehabilitation. I think there can be a lot of abuse involved, though.

Talk about magic in ur furry world boy

ok so magic is real but not very widespread? it beats like a heart in the very essence of the world but the average person doesn't have access to it. specifically magical entities are where magic really shines in this world, like the north pole (which is exposed to santa claus' magic like a radiated field)

there's some wizards but it's less high magic setting and more sometimes folks can make potions, like hrt and other trans potions are very much a thing as well as various transformative potions to help folks feel more comfortable in their fur. alterhumanity is a big theme here despite the only actual "human" being santa claus (they don't know what a human is, santa claus' species is technically "santa claus" here)

mostly magic is used in medicinal roles but some species like dragons, unicorns, gryphons, and the like are born more "in tune" with the magic of the world and can do some things that violate the laws of nature and physics like breathing fire and lifting objects with magic (unicorn's horns are like a focus from which they channel magic, north polean reindeer function similarly with their antlers)

1- I am a werewolf! Meaning, a human who has wolf shifts. Wolf therian is fine too, but I find werewolf to be a much cooler label

2- I am a black wolf! (which is technically a gray wolf, species-wise) While not being theriotypes to my knowledge, I also have fursonas being a bat-eared fox, dog, reindeer, sparklewolf, velociraptor, and cinereous vulture! I am also pupgender.

3- I do have shifts, which for me if the primary reason for identifying as alterhuman. I’m not sure what’s meant by “most common shifts.” My shifts don’t seem to have a trigger that I can tell. When I shift I just go wolf brain, crawling around, chewing on stuff, rolling on the floor, etc. For phantom shifts I mostly get it for my tail and fur, and sometimes my ears.

4- It actually doesn’t come up very much. The only significant thing is that I’ve started doing cardio so that wolfy can have more stamina when I shift.

5- Here on Tumblr, I’d say it’s pretty kind and inclusive! Over on TikTok though, I think there’s a huge amount of watering down going on. Such as the huge focus on gear and quads, saying things like “therians don’t actually think they’re animals” (plenty do!), and just in general lots of misinformation. I swear, the community looks so much different as an outsider, as opposed to when you get involved yourself. I just think the TikTok community is trying too hard to look normal to the non-therians to a point of watering us down. But hey, that’s just me.

6- I like to make dog treats for myself! This is the recipe I use. They’re pretty good I’d say, but nothing too sweet. Using a dog bone cookie cutter makes it twice as euphoric!

I also get euphoria from sticking my head out of the car window, chewing on my dog bone chew toy, howling at the moon, growling, laying in my dog bed, and drinking from my dog bowl! That’s a fun one to try I’d say. Drinking water by lapping it with your tongue is mega dog.

7- I actually don’t! All my disphoria is gender related. I’d say I feel human through and through, but sometimes I become a wolf. I don’t feel as though I’m a wolf in a human body. Rather, a human and a wolf together in a human body.

8- I’m not sure! I’m recently awakened myself! I guess for one, don’t feel the need to rush into things, or force yourself into a label just to finish the self reflection process. Just observe who you are to the best of your ability, and go from there!

9- I do! I have a black wolf mask I made! It’s actually made on a plastic cat mask that I’ve had for years. It used to belong to my aunt who was an artist. I’ve inherited most of her art supplies when she died, but I’ve been incredibly hesitant to use any of it since it’s so finite. However, using the mask (which has been catching dust for years) to create something that’s so important and representative of my true self feels like something she would have loved. And because of that, the mask means all the more to me! I also have a ton of fursuits, though unrelated to my theriotype.

10- Probably the autism, I’d say. Maybe trauma or something or another. I do remember concurrently as a child whenever something incredibly distressing happened, I would imagine myself as a wolf taking revenge. Like if it was a person, I would maul them in my mind. I don’t really have that anymore, and it’s possibly unrelated, but that’s the only instance of wolf behavior from when I was young. As of late, it seems to have popped up almost spontaneously.

11- I don’t know anybody yet, rip. I’m new here (not to Tumblr but to the alterhuman tumblr community) so hopefully I can get equated with some fellow creatures soon!

Oh man. It's kind of both easy and difficult at the same time.

Everyone who fronts (regularly) are all some flavor of alterhuman and so we desire to wear things that affirm our identities in some small way. Many of us who front a fair bit have, at the very least, some kind of accessory (or two, or more) that is personally our own. However, our fronting schedule is no schedule at all, and we tend to switch out throughout the day, so wearing the “right” accessory for the right person can be difficult.

However, overall, our system has had a number of negative experiences over our life that make us very self-conscious about physical expression. To make things harder, because of dysphoria buying new clothes regularly is difficult for us. Further, we’re autistic and some of us have texture/touch aversions others in our system, do not. Finally, while we all very in gender, our gender expression leans more androgynous to masculine as it helps with gender dysphoria for the most of us. Those and some other things related to our mental health subdues our comfort levels with physical expression relating to clothing choices. Also, a lot of people in our system don't have a strong preference for clothing choices beyond "it's comfortable" and "it doesn't take a lot of effort to maintain," so some people just bounce off of whatever everyone else tends to wear.

So, we generally don't have too much of an issue with clothing.
