People talk about how “overpowered” and freaky some of the physical feats in PJO and HOO are but I think people forget that all demigods inherently have enhanced, speed, agility, and strength. So at lot of these physical feats actually make a lot of sense in their “power scaling.”

And I know a lot of people like talk about the Lois Arc jump because that is insane but there are a lot of other feats that show off the enhanced attributes some of the other demigods have.

Like, Hazel ran after a Arion, the fastest horse alive for a WHOLE day. Hours upon hours on end. And even if Arion WASN’T the fastest horse he’s still. A horse. That Hazel was able to keep up with. And then run all the way home.

Reyna EASILY knocks away giant werewolves with a knife and used her javelin like a pole vault. Annabeth managed to fight Kronos, a whole ass Titan, to a standstill. And she’s been shown to perform moves only professional acrobatic and gymnast can do. Piper threw a fifty pound shield at Medea and was described to move fast as a viper.

Jason had dodged arrows that have appeared out of no where, no warning, and Percy has side stepped bullets. BULLETS.

Not to mention that with the Lycaon and werewolves they were all out running and keeping up with WOLVES.

So, yeah, demigods have freaky physical feats.

Thoughts on magical girls? And what they stand for and how they may be used in narrative?

MIGHT BECOME A LONG RANT LOL

As many may have picked on im a huge fan of the magical girl genre

I honestly love magical girls , to me at least it was always a very compelling type of story that was far deeper than its guy counter part (dbz ect) they touch on a lot of subjects going from small friend disagreements to complex trauma , the range of what this genre touch is simply impressive and is very versatile .

And i love the traditional ones as much as I love the ones going against the genre .

They all have something to bring and that's beautiful.

Yes the outfit are sometimes way too revealing and I agree it's weird , but with the context that it's coming from Japan I find this inspiring in some way , they have a very long history of shaming women for wearing revealing clothing or being sexually open . Do I agree ? No but I understand how important it is for their culture and history, unfortunately a lot of things that makes things move i disagree personally with but still understand their importance.

Magical girls are inherently a genre that pushes you to think things and that strives to make changes , I will take madoka magica for my next exemple

The more straightforward queer implications of madoka and Homura was groundbreaking in a world where queer love was still very frowned upon , and it highlighted girls trough history that met a terrible demise , yes portraying Joan of arc and ann frank mightve been clumsy and a bit insensitive I do agree there too , but to say we see you , your struggle is valid and we strive to a world where that kind of pain won't be on your shoulders is a beautiful message to me , it was an hommage to theses girls that went trough incredibly terrible events and deserved better

And even in western countries , shera was a rewriting of an already existing magical girl story , they gave her the chance to be more than a pretty girl with power , they gave her so much more and i absolutely love that , the story was complex and well thought of , its probably one of my favorite rewriting with voltron

Magical girls are a sign of rebellion in a world that normalised suffering, pain and patriarchy, its ok to not like them i understand but to brush aside and ignore how relevant and important they are is simply ignorant at best and misogynistic at worst

You cannot look at sailor moon , madoka magica ect and tell yourself "well that's dumb"

Even glitter force that's very simplified still talks about empowerment and being yourself unapologetically

Ignoring the importance of magical girls in media is sad , especially when theres dragon ball that's praised and loved when it's exactly the same thing but without the emotional and teaching aspect of magical girls

Theres also the message that love triumphs everything, that hates get defeated everytime , and that's true , love pushes people to move and be strong , hate lies in fear , if you fear love then you already lost
