Dean "had him by the thigh," is, like the reference to Philistines in the same episode, an ancient/Biblical one.
Cas's reaction, like "It's funnier in Enochian," is his reacting comically to what would be Biblical euphemism for: "Dean had him by the dick."
Much like a Seraphim "covers their feet" in the presence of God is a euphemism for covering their penises, ancient language also cloaked penis is euphemism like "hand, thigh, limb, flesh, etc."
13x16 via spnscripts
I don't know, but it's just funny to think of Cas's mind jumping there first out of reflex and then his brain having to backpedal, like whoops.

wanna learn a word that some Germans really love?
✨entschleunigen (verb)✨
it's the opposite of beschleunigen (v) - accelerate and it technically does mean decelerate BUT for that we prefer "abbremsen"
no, entschleunigen is used way more in the sense of "slow down your vibes", to take a break, to pause from the constant hectic and stress of both work and personal matters
a similar term is: einen Gang runterschalten/zurückschalten (to go down a gear) - we do love our automobile motives, huh?
#the tea-twitter-person's handle is 'leuchtpenis'...#bisschen is not spelled with an ß since 1996 even though one twitter user does#entschleunigen is also not usually used reflexively (with sich)#overall these twitter users are linguistically curious#german#langblr#deutsch#learning german#language learning#deutsch lernen#german language#german learning#language#german vocabulary

Quote from an newspaper's excerpt. Date 3 June 2001. In The Place Where Cartoons Reside:
"(...) June 2001, day of Atlantis's premiere. Time for celebration in Toontown, where new people are being welcomed. The air it's fizzly as only the young days of summer can be. The party echoes with sparks of amity and laughter. Bonds are being made. Antics are unintentionally rolling. It's a gentle day."

You know what the most frustrating thing about writing is when you are fluent in another language?
The absolute devastation of knowing there is a perfect way to word this if I could just use that other language for this one sentence.
#there are so many great words missing in the English language#and don’t get me started on the travesty of not having proper reflexive possessive pronouns#what are you? cavemen?#writing#writing things#language

Someone needs to learn you a thing about learning things
Well- fuck you!
If you had any idea how diligent were ALL our teachers about making sure we get this right (There's basically the same word for "teach" and "learn" in Czech, just like "lend" and "borrow" and likely other examples.), you'd start crying tears of blood anytime you'd see it wrong too.
#reply#languages#English#Czech#No#I have zero traumas from learning foreign languages#why would you ask?!#It's like violent Pavlovian reflex.

Tamriel pronouns post good but thinking about languages with reflexive gender. I always find on this site we're oriented towards English as model for everything and not languages like mine, or for another example Japanese which a lot of popular media is in to the point where I do see people get themselves to learn a bit more... especially social connotations of how people refer to themselves and others. I'd love to see more of it in conlang!
#not literally cribbing from these languages but eyeing them for what makes personal and interpersonal expression different from english#not sure if reflexive is the right term here i'm not a linguist just multilingual#basically languages in which you're already gendering yourself more or less directly!

Svenskaträning för den hugade (Swedish practice for the willing)
I've been thinking of för, and therefore, here's some verbs with för to muse over. What's the difference between (+ which of these isn't a verb?):
företag företa sig förta sig ta för sig ta sig för
bonus: ta sig till ta till sig tillta tilltag

How come you speak romanian as an australian? Do you have family, a partner, friends or workmates that are romanians or is it just a personal interest?
Them
I don't know anyone in person who even speaks Romanian. I knew a couple of words already because of Dragostea din tei, and I knew it was the language with the intriguing hyphens, but I never considered learning it until these guys came along and before I knew it my playlists were full of Romanian songs and I was starting to pick up actual grammar and I figured I ought to do the thing properly. Now I have a 376 day streak on duolingo and an entire pastoral ballad in my brain and I regret nothing.
I love it so much. It makes me want to write poetry that doesn't start with foaie verde lol
#hyphens > apostrophes#sorry this has been sitting in my inbox for days but i keep forgetting#or overthinking it#asks answered#but seriously#everything i learn about this language makes me love it more#even the things i can't get my head around#like all the different strong and weak pronouns and which verbs are reflexive#sometimes i just make every verb reflexive out of spite#and sometimes they actually are#i mean this in the most respectful way of course#but if it happened to be the case that the intricacies of the romanian language were in part devised to fuck with invading foreigners#i would be completely unsurprised#and even more in love than i already am#go to bed cal
