what are some aro headcanons you have?
Hi, Sky! Thanks for the ask!
I have a personal aro headcanons masterpost (which I meant to update, whoops) but I'll take the opportunity to talk about some headcanons I have a little more.
Sherlock Holmes: That man is so aroace. Yes, even in the original Victorian stories. I haven't read all of the original stories yet, but Watson even says in the second story or so that he knows romantic relationships aren't Holmes's thing. It's really cool to see that in a story from the 1800s. And I haven't seen any adaptations where Holmes comes off as alloromantic to me. And he's one of the most, if not the most, adapted and referenced characters ever. That's iconic.
Tumblr media
Anzu Hoshino: This character is rather niche, from the Netflix anime series "Romantic Killer". I'm not sure if I view her as aroace or non-SAM aromantic but she's 100% aromantic to me. She's clearly romance-repulsed and tries to dogde every possible romantic situation as quickly as possible. I love stories that subvert typical romantic tropes and poke fun at them, and Romantic Killer is one of them. What I love about Anzu most is that she's pretty extroverted and good at communicating. A lot of other aromantic characters (canon or implied) I've seen are either introverted, shy, or socially awkward (or all 3 of them). Anzu is not, and I find that really refreshing (despite me being all 3 lol). I'd love to have Anzu as a friend or older sister. She seems a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
Niko Sasaki: She's from the Netflix series "Dead Boy Detectives". She's not strongly implied to be aro but she's content with being single and loves being the matchmaker for other characters. Yet, she never mentions searching for a partner or feeling attracted to anyone. Since she's also a fujoshi, I headcanon her as both aegoromantic and aegosexual.
Tumblr media
Loid, Yor and Anya Forger from Spy x family: Yes, I headcanon all of them as aromantic or arospec of some sort. Yes, I'm aware that's it's supposed to be som kind of slow-burn romance between Loid and Yor but I decided to read it as platonic/queerplatonic. Yes, I'm also aware that Anya is only around 5 years old, but if the fandom can age her up to ship her with her classmate, I can age her up to headcanon her as aro. (Also, her friend who is only about a year older than her, already has full-blown crushes. I'm just saying.) That said, I'm anime-only, and I don't know how long I'll be able to headcanon Loid and Yor as aro but even then I'll probably just slap a demiromantic label on them. Yor never had a romantic relationship before and only thought one out to help her hide her secret identity. Loid had relationships before, but only for his spy jobs, and he was never too invested in them. So it's fitting. I love this little aromantic queerplatonic found family.
Tumblr media
I'm currently reading The Hobbit, and planning to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy after that. I think I'll have a couple more aro headcanons after (*cough* Bilbo and Frodo Baggins *cough*)
This is all I can think of right now. Thanks again!

Meet Eli Craig: Director of Hilarious Horror Films
Tumblr media
Director Eli Craig in action on the set of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Eli Craig is a screenwriter and film director and the son of actress Sally Field known for her roles in Forrest Gump and Mrs. Doubtfire. Craig is best known for writing and directing the 2010 horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Audience Award. He went on to produce another horror comedy, Little Evil, which was released on Netflix. However, he hasn't done much since then.
Tumblr media
Eli Craig alongside his iconic mother, Sally Field
Clark Collins of Entertainment Weekly online praises Craig's accomplishment given the difficulty of the genre. He writes “Like a fat man lying down on a wide wall, the horror-comedy is a notoriously difficult thing to pull off. But that didn’t stop debut director Eli Craig making Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, a humorous twist on the crazed hillbilly genre" (Collins).
Tumblr media
In an interview with Deadly Talks, Craig explained how he and his film school classmate, Morgan Jurgenson, came up with the idea for Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. They co-wrote the script intending to flip the typical horror genre tropes. Rather than having the usual scenario of college kids being attacked by hillbillies, they reversed the roles by having the college kids attack the hillbillies (“Eli Craig, Tyler.” 00:01:00 - 00:01:13). Craig shared that his idea drew from personal experiences, stating that he "has a thing against frat kids, as he never got along with them and always preferred the backwoods guys” (“Eli Craig, Tyler.” 00:00:40 - 00:01:00).

Exclusive Interview with Eli Craig and the actors portraying Tucker and Dale
In a review of Little Evil by Kieran Fisher, he mentions that it is difficult to discuss director Eli Craig without referencing his debut film, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Fisher describes it as “a bona fide cult classic among viewers who lean towards the bloodier side of comedy, and one which hilariously subverts the tropes and stereotypes we associate with the backwoods hillbilly subgenre.” While Tucker and Dale vs. Evil had the potential to take Craig to mainstream success, he has been relatively quiet since its release in 2010 (Fisher).
Tumblr media
Eli Craig's second feature film - Little Evil
Seven years after his first feature film Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Craig directed his second feature film, Little Evil, which was expected to mark his comeback but fell short (Fisher). Fisher states that Little Evil is “a reasonably entertaining comedy that continues to demonstrate his mushy sensibilities. It’s just a shame that Little Evil sticks to a familiar formula throughout and never manages to sustain a consistent level of quality comedy.”
youtube
Trailer of Little Evil
In another review by Keith Garlington, it's noted that Tucker and Dale vs. Evil isn’t for everyone. The blood and gore are excessive but play an essential role in the parody (Garlington). The film stumbles towards the end with a showdown at an old lumber mill that, despite being a pivotal moment, feels anticlimactic and overly conventional compared to the rest of the film (Garlington). "It was soaked in parody but still felt a little too conventional, something that can’t be said about most of this film. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil isn’t a movie you can pigeonhole, and that’s a really strong point. It’s bloody and hilarious, and you may find yourself grimacing and laughing at the same scene. It’s truly that funny" (Garlington).
Tumblr media
Tucker to the Rescue: Alison Saved from the Evil Frat Boys
In my opinion, Eli Craig is a filmmaker who's good at mixing horror and comedy in unexpected ways. He made a big splash with his first movie, "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil," which turned a typical horror movie upside down. Craig's unique style comes from his personal experiences and his desire to do something different in horror films. While his first movie was a hit with fans, Craig has had a hard time keeping that momentum going. He took a long break before making his second film, "Little Evil," which didn't quite live up to expectations. This shows how tough it can be to stay successful in Hollywood, even after a great start. Craig's work stands out because he likes to surprise audiences by changing the usual horror story rules. But he's only made a couple of movies so far, so it's hard to say what his long-term impact will be but I look forward to see what he does next!.

Hey everyone. Whenever I go to the movies, I try to watch it with filmmaker glasses on trying to figure out the reason for why x & y was done, etc.
With the whole Carrie music, I knew what we were getting but was still confused with the bedroom scene until I thought about it (We'll come to this later). Every Carrie iteration comes with a dream sequence in its conclusion. During the OG Carrie (1976), Sue has a nice dream about putting flowers upon the destroyed house of Carrie until a hand bursts from the grave latching onto Sue & we wake with Sue in reality screaming from her mother's hand believing it to be Carrie's.
If you watch the OG dream sequence from Carrie 1976, Sue is dressed in white holding a bouquet 💐??!! WHAT DOES THAT SOUND LIKE TO YOU?? A WEDDING!
AND then the camera pans to Carrie's grave & I think we're obviously supposed to be thinking it's a parallel to BJ's grave & as Sue walks to IT, IT LOOKS AS IF SHE GOES DEEPER & DEEPER IN THE GROUND!
To be one with death.
And she's all pretty & angelic like you'd look at a wedding too! Just some interesting details I never picked up on! Even the dress is wedding material! Sue is being married to Carrie's memory/legacy just like Lydia to BJ in the dream!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in real life, Sue takes Carrie's hand with her when she wakes up (still on her arm/mind) just like Lydia waking with BJ in her bed!
Also, in the Carrie remake (2013) from a few years ago, Sue was pregnant (in an alternative ending on the DVD) at the end so that's an interesting connection 🤔. Carrie was also a reference in the 2nd Addams Family film with Wednesday & her love interest where she plays a prank on him by trying to frighten him to death AND just before the prank, they talk about marriage & children (A nice little nod to Jenna Ortega as she also plays Wednesday in Netflix's iteration of the iconic character).
This is the scene I think Burton was referencing BUT the twist here is Astrid AKA Lydia is happy about producing an otherworldly baby unlike the scene here:
https://youtu.be/9kGJGQZIduo?si=iFcm10RUvAvRbM_l
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a mirror to what we get in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but there's no horrific tone presented like here. No negativity. No fear of there being something wrong/demonic about the situation. No nurse restraining her during the pregnancy. We even see a shot of a bloody Carrie holding the deformed baby in her arms ACROSS from Sue in the hospital room, for God's sake! Lydia truly wants to be with BJ & have his child though she'll never admit it outright. There Astrid (AKA Lydia) is smiling at the baby as it wrecks havoc in the room.
Lydia did say BJ is a trickster demon & this just proves it but it's kinda a heartwarming truth that Lydia doesn't want to admit to herself. Lydia doesn't wake up screaming like Sue, just frozen like she's being confronted with a part of herself she needs to be kept hidden.
Astrid falling for a guy dressed as a vampire is just Lydia with BJ (both being undead) & the fact that he's a vampire could be a connection to BJ & DELORES' BLOOD PACT AT HIS OWN WEDDING!!!
It's a win either way but I think Lydia came up with the dream herself since BJ says he had a weird dream but it was obviously Lydia's UNLESS THEY SHARE DREAMS NOW BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PSYCHIC CONNECTION.
Either way, Sue shares a connection with Carrie beyond the grave just like Lydia with BJ!
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Theory
Lydia is an unreliable narrator. Winona Ryder's personal headcanon that Lydia is a spinster by choice waiting in that attic is true. The film begins with her in the window in the house on the hill before blipping her over to New York suspiciously, and ends with her presumably in that same room. Astrid and Rory and Richard aren't real. The events of the film are all Betelgeuse indulging his wife's desire for a child, something he can't give her.
But he's sick and has to make his jokes, so he makes sure to remind her at the end with grandbabyjuice that her desire for a normal life is misguided and ridiculous, and she's stuck with him. Till death do we part, babes.
Cliche? Absolutely. Is that BJ's brand? Absolutely. The more I think about it, the more this is the most valid interpretation of the plot.

—the lovey-dovey things they do with you while you're both stuck at home during quarantine

ೃ  warnings: none!
ೃ  my nav  →  my mha writing masterlist  → my katsuki bakugo x reader smau
ೃ  please do reblog if you enjoyed!! it really helps writers and content creators on tumblr!
ೃ  if you want to be a part of my mha taglist. send me an ask!  ♡
Tumblr media
katsuki bakugo: cooking and baking with him! it all started on a cozy afternoon in April, you’re mindlessly scrolling through tiktok whilst cuddling with katsuki (your sparky bf practically asleep in your arms) when you stumbled upon some cute and interesting cooking videos appearing on your fyp. katsuki peers through your phone and groggily asks if you want to try out and attempt to make some of them and you immediately say yes!
the two of you start with something simple and basic, dalgona coffee! (even playfully arguing whether or not you should adding more whipped cream to your drinks or not), after that, you then take your culinary journey a bit further by making some baked sushi, cloud bread, and mini donut cereals among many other scrumptious delights! after a while, you decided to buy some matching “kiss the cook” aprons online and even started a tiktok account detailing all of the special twists katsuki made to the recipes (although he absolutely refused to make an account at first, with some probing and dozens of pouty faces and puppy eyes coming from his adorable significant other, he finally gives in) dancing and kisses in the kitchen, spreading flour on each other’s faces, leaving sneaky love notes by the fridge, and making each other coffee in the morning were just some of the little add-ons the two of you would do with each other.
izuku midoriya: online escape rooms and virtual museum tours! the national museum of japan were offering some free virtual tours around the museum and the two of you could not just pass up the opportunity to see all the intricate pieces being displayed in the museum. however, izuku wanted to experience something else that's similar to that and so, after seeing an ad on twitter for an virtual escape room experience, izuku excitedly told you about it. jumping and hopping around like a little bunny and you couldn’t help but agree as seeing him so happy and so excited for something will never fail to make your heart flutter. the two of you immediately book a reservation and even bring out your virtual reality gears for the full immersive experience. you’re clinging to his arm the whole time as you virtually traverse a horror escape game and your freckled boyfriend tries his best to be brave just for you.
with both of your intelligent and inquisitive minds combined together, with the occasional soft couple bickering, and having to listen to izuku murmur to himself for several minutes,  the two of you solved 7 escape rooms (for a week straight) in a span of three hours each. the two of you take turns in doing the tasks of the game, and whoever fails to do so, has to do the other person’s bidding for the entire day. although the two of you could never force the other to do any mean-spirited dares to each other, most of the bidding you told each other to do were peppering each other kisses on the cheek, long and warm hugs, choosing the movie for the night, cuddling in the bed and holding hands among many other things.
todoroki shoto: binging movies and tv shows on netflix with him! this was the perfect opportunity to help your icy-hot boyfriend finally indulge in everything pop culture. and what better way to do so than on netflix and other streaming sites? the two of you end up watching every romantic movie dear to your heart. mixed with bed or couch cuddles, blankets wrapped around the two of you, a lot of cheesy and loving whispers said, and paired with some comfort food you ordered online. your watching area varied. sometimes the two of you would watch in the bedroom, living room, and sometimes you would even make a pillow fort with dangling fairy lights attached to it filling the tent with fluffy stuff toys to lie on just so that the two of you can watch on the floor.
shoto cried when the two of you finished watching the notebook and the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. and all you did the entire night was give him all the hugs and kithes you could provide him. ever since then, the two of you opt for more light-hearted movies. rom-coms, disney movies and sitcoms where he endlessly referenced iconic lines from friends, the office, how i met your mother, and brooklyn 99. the days in quarantine go by with the two of you just mindlessly singing and dancing along to disney songs, rewatching rom-coms for the umpteenth time, reenacting some scenes from iconic movies with dry yet hilarious acting, and just discussing movie theories whenever he cutely and innocently asks you about some small details he missed every time you finish watching a movie for the day
eijiro kirishima: training and exercise routines with him! your shark-toothed boyfriend is a fitness buff through and through. to the point that a room in your house dedicated to just gym and fitness equipment exists. but when quarantine struck the world and your lovely home, you slightly lost your motivation to work out. eijiro continues to encourage you to do so ofc! with the two of you occasionally going outside to jog but aside from that, nothing much else. when he catches you watching a chloe ting video on youtube, he scoops you up from the couch, and you giggle trying to tell him to put you down yet he refuses to do so, as he carries you all the way to your little gym room. you notice that there are yoga mats sprawled about and since then, the two of you would do a lot of yoga as it has been proven to decrease anxiety. sometimes the two of you would get distracted and start dancing to the exercise music, accompanied endless laughter and giggles when kirisihima would do his daily planking exercise with you sitting on top of him as he does so.
there were also times when the two of you were so tired and sore. so you would give each other loving massages, there were also times when the two of you would just sleep it out or just lounge in the bed. excercise couldn’t stop your cravings and so, and there were also times when the two of you would do some food mukbangs you’ve been craving for recently.
shinsou hitoshi: playing video games with him and taking care of your little pet kitten! right before quarantine started, shinsou surprised you with a pet little kitten that the two of you decided to name gigi, named after the cat from kiki’s delivery service. the two of you always running around the house as if you were parents to a newly-born baby, watching your cute little kitten frolicking around, touching and interacting with everything he could find. after watching some “cat parents” videos on youtube and learning some tips, you attempt to give it a bath, resulting into a very wet failure. with the only time you can feel peace and quiet was when gigi was asleep or whenever he would be drinking his vet-approved milk. your quarantine life was hectic and chaotic but taking care of a cute little bundle of joy with your equally loving and handsome boyfriend... well, life couldn’t get any better than this.
when you were finally able to get the hang of the cat parents life, you and shinsou finally found the time to rest and relax by playing video games. may it be a horror, action, adventure, rhythm, or fantasy game, you were always playing with him. maybe as a player 2 or just as the supportive significant other who helped him solve puzzles, make story game choices that could change the game, and even help him with the buttons if he was trying to fight some hard boss. whenever there are jumps cares in the game, he would hold your hand and give you reassuring pats. whenever the two of you would play against each other on the other hand, he has his arms wrapped around you, with you still being extremely focused at the game at hand, he would give you pecks on the cheek to try and make you distracted so that he can win. your little pet kitten, gigi, sleeping on the couch as the two of you play to your heart’s content.

Hi! With the Black Widow movie coming out, I just re-watched some old MUC movies and remembered how much I love Natasha. What are the main, must-read, Natasha-centric comics that you would recommend to a comics newbie? (You once made a similar post for Loki comics that I used and found extremely helpful.) Thanks for everything you share! I've found a lot of content that I enjoy through your blog!
Thanks, anon! I'm always happy when I can be rewarded for my loud yelling about things that I love. :D
I was sure I'd made a Natasha reading list a while back but apparently not?? what the fuck self. (well, other than my overall MCU starter kit recs post from forever ago that was for all of the O6 and is also very old.)
okay well then I guess it's time to do that now, no time like the present! going to link to trades where they exist but I'll include issue numbers as well
heads up: you probably will run into references you don't understand in some of these. that's comics for you. my advice: either let those things float by you, or just Google them - you can enjoy comics without knowing/having read all the lore!
anyway, the recs.
the easiest suggestion I have right off the bat though is the Black Widow Epic Collection editions that have been published recently (Black Widow: Beware the Black Widow, and Black Widow: The Coldest War) which include some of her major appearances, including in a bunch of old single issues that would otherwise be hard to find. HOWEVER, those won't take you up into her more contemporary appearances (the latest publish date in there is 1996).
THE TOP OF THE LINE
The Marjorie Liu run collected as Black Widow: The Name of the Rose (Black Widow vol. 4 #1-5). If you read no other Black Widow comics, read this one. It's so good, easily one of my top five comics runs of all time. Cannot recommend it enough.
Black Widow: The Itsy Bitsy Spider which includes two different short runs (Black Widow vol. 1, #1-3 & Black Widow vol. 2, #1-3). This is probably my other favorite Black Widow collection of issues (and they very much lead into each other); here's where Yelena gets introduced and also where you can find some very gay panels. If you can't find this one, you can find the same issues republished with the added Pale Little Spider miniseries in a trade called Marvel Knights Black Widow by Grayson and Rucka: The Complete Collection.
The Nathan Edmondson/Phil Noto run collected in three trades The Finely Woven Thread, The Tightly Tangled Web, and Last Days (Black Widow vol. 5, #1-20). This one follows on thematically in some ways from the Marjorie Liu run but primarily the appeal here, in my opinion, is Phil Noto's art, which is gorgeous.
The Mark Waid/Chris Samnee run collected as Black Widow: SHIELD's Most Wanted and Black Widow: No More Secrets (as well as in a Complete Collection edition) (Black Widow vol. 6, #1-12). This was a series not long enough for this world but a delight while it lasted - again, particularly the art, but Waid and Samnee also just work together very, very well.
Black Widow: Web of Intrigue which includes Marvel Fanfare #10-13, Bizarre Adventures #25, and Black Widow: The Coldest War, some older stories featuring Natasha.
THE DEEPER CUTS
I'd put down first Hawkeye & Mockingbird / Black Widow: Widowmaker as a recent series worth reading; the trade also collects Solo Avengers #16-18 in addition to Widowmaker #1-4. I don't think it really gets referenced in other places, but it's a fun collection of issues and I love the dynamic of these three together.
If you want to dig into the background of the character and her true comics origins, check out the old comics collected in Black Widow: The Sting of the Widow which include her first appearances, the introduction of her iconic costume (in Spider-man, actually), and her short run in Amazing Adventures (Tales of Suspense #52, Amazing Spider-Man #86, Amazing Adventures vol. 2 #1-8, Daredevil #81).
This is...kind of a weird one and also a mixed recommendation, but I will throw out there the semi-extracanonical Black Widow: Homecoming (Black Widow vol. 3, #1-6) and Black Widow: The Things They Say About Her (Black Widow 2 vol. 3, #1-6), apparently also now collected as Black Widow: Welcome to the Game, written by Richard K. Morgan (yes, the author of the book that inspired the Netflix show Altered Carbon) because while they are...not good in all ways they do hit some very specific notes for me in places.
Captain America & Black Widow is a short team-up run with Steve and Natasha that's enjoyable if a bit wacky (Captain America & Black Widow #636-640) from a period of time where there was just a series of Captain America team-ups as part of the Captain America run.
This is going to be a hard one because it's not collected anywhere as far as I can tell, but Marvel Knights #1-15 which was published in 2000-2001 as part of Marvel's street level gritty initiative thing (that actually produced some quite good comics). I tracked it down in single issues back in college and actually really loved it. Team book but Natasha is prominent.
If you can find Black Widow & the Marvel Girls (Black Widow & the Marvel Girls #1-4) it is a treasure of a miniseries but unfortunately very difficult, in my experience, to track down.
The Black Widow: Widowmaker collection pulls together an assortment of sort of random oneshots/short runs with some good stuff in there (mostly the thing that I like that is in this one and not in other collections on this list are Fear Itself: Black Widow #1, but it does also include with other material some of the other runs on this list - Black Widow vol. 4 #1-8, Black Widow: Deadly Origin #1-4, and Widowmaker #1-4).
Finally: there's The Champions, the short-lived team Natasha actually led back in the day which is pretty Silver Age but sometimes in an endearing way, and the arc collected in Daredevil: The Widow which is Natasha-centric (Daredevil #61-66) and good enough that I bought it even though I'm not a particular fan of Daredevil. But that might partly be because I really like Alex Maleev's art.
People recommend Black Widow: Deadly Origin but I am not personally a big fan. I'm putting it on here mostly so you have it and also so other people know I'm aware of it.
I'm not yet caught up on the most recent currently running series so I can't speak to recommending it or not.
if you really, really want more deep cuts, anon, I have some, uh, team runs and single issue appearances I'm very fond of personally, but that starts going way down the rabbit hole in a way that perhaps you do not want to.

VOLTRON ASK GAME
I was tagged by @silverineontherun (thank you so much) and immediately knew I had to do this!
How did you discover the show?
Back during the summer it first came out, I remember seeing it come up on Netflix a few times and I remember feeling like I should watch it, but hesitating because it seemed like any y-7 Western version of a mecha-anime...which at that point I wasn’t sure I’d be into. But I love animation, and I may have seen a thing or two about it on here, so eventually I was like ‘eh, why not? I’ll put it on while I work on my own animation project.’ And so I did :)
Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show?
Yes and no! I was immediately drawn in by the characters and the animation but the plot did take some time to grow on me. I knew I’d stick with it from the first season, but it wasn’t until the third season that I was stuck. I think it was at that point that it became clear to me that this show had a carefully laid plan for each of its characters and the story as a whole, and everything was really starting to take off.
Do you have a favorite episode?
This is a difficult one...because with me there’s never just one episode! Taking Flight will probably always be my fave from s1, and the eps introducing the BOM and Keith’s backstory are my faves from s2, but after that it gets harder because I love pretty much all of s3, s4, s5 and s6 equally (and A LOT).
Do you have a favorite Paladin?
Weeeellll Keith has been my icon for a while. But if there’s anything I love about Voltron, it’s that it’s so easy to love and care about ALL of the characters for different reasons! So if I HAVE to pick one, then Keith for the first half of the show. But you know what? I have a feeling that from now on it’ll be Lance because I feel his story starting to take off and I’m actually so ready. But, as I said, these two are just barely my faves--I truly love them all.
Do you have a favorite Lion? (If it’s different from your fave Paladin, why?)
I never really thought about it before but I have to say Blue. She’s been there from the very beginning, and I love that she’s like the ‘mother’ lion. I trusted her with our boy Lance and now I trust her with our girl Allura <3
Do you have a favorite villain?
Lotor lol. Zarkon was boring AF (except in the flashbacks from before he turned) but as soon as Lotor came in I was so ready for whatever he was going to bring to the show. Admittedly, I did have a tiny bit of hope that he wouldn’t be as bad as he turned out to be, but as a villain his story is equal parts chilling and tragic and that works for me. I’m hoping Haggar/Honerva steps it up though, maybe it’ll be her soon.
Do you have a favorite Alien Race (Recurring and/or minor)
Hmmm...not really? I find them all pretty cool but I’ve never considered what my favorite would be. Maybe the Balmerans though, since they’ve been around from the start.
Favorite side/other character(s) - Rebels, Generals, Blade of Marmora, Garrison, etc?
Krolia. I mean we’ve only had two episodes somewhat devoted to her so far, but  I already know I’d die for her. And I love that she’s on the team! I’m actually excited to see how both she and Romelle will work with the others. It’s always wonderful to see more female characters join the crew! Aside from that? Matt, of course! He’s so fun.
How/Why did you join the fandom?
I blogged a little about Voltron before s3, but I didn’t actively engage in the fandom until s3 and beyond. By that point I couldn’t help it! I was too invested to contain myself. And I also think that it had to do with the fact that I had fully accepted Keith and Lance as probably LGBT rep and I needed to see what other people were saying about that possibility. And actually I got more into the fan theories in general by that point. So, yeah! No matter how messy the fandom might seem, I figured I’d be able to find what I would enjoy and ignore what I wouldn’t.
Care to share your favorite headcanon?
Hoo boy. I don’t make a lot of headcanons because I’m very invested in canon, but I do like headcanons that I think work exceptionally well with canon. That being said I don’t really curate them so nothing specific is really coming to mind? Maybe the one that Hunk cleaned Keith’s paladin armor while he was away because that’s so cute and I can see Hunk doing that. Oh, and just for laughs, I love that we call Keith’s dad Texas to the point where I kind of hope we never find out his real name.
What do you think is the best part of the show?
The characters and the animation! The fact that both are as well done as they are is what makes Voltron such a fixation for me. I truly feel for and care about every single character, and I love that none of them are perfect and that you can track their growth! That and the fact that the show lends itself so well to theorizing!
Any hopes and wishes for future episodes/seasons?
LGBT rep is a big one, but--as I referenced earlier--I think that’s in the process of happening, and you also know which character(s) I think that’ll be! Other than that, I want to see more dual-wielding Keith, Lance with his sword, I want to see Lance and Hunk’s families on earth, and I want Allura and Romelle to bond! I also just want Romelle to become part of the team in general because I think that’ll be an interesting dynamic.
Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?
No question! I, for one, am more excited than ever about where the show is going, and it would take a lot for me to drop it. I’m not worried about being disappointed though--I’m not saying it could never happen, but that’s not something I think about. As much as I love theorizing and reading other people’s theories, I’ve gotten to a place where I’m very content to wait and see what they throw at us.
All righty, now to tag someone! I haven’t really gotten to know many of you on here, and I don’t want anyone to feel obligated to participate if they don’t want to, but I’ll tag @lanceprance cause you’ve been around for a while! But literally anyone who sees this pls feel free to do it I’d love to see what you all have to say!

Teasing a Costume, Iron Fist-Style
As anyone who follows my other blog might know, I have many thoughts on the Iron Fist costume. As we eagerly wait for MCU Danny to acquire his, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the impressive degree to which his comics look has been integrated into his clothing in the shows.
Tumblr media
When I talk about 616 Danny’s costume in this context, I’m mostly talking about this one. It’s not his only costume (in fact, he hasn’t worn this for a while), but it was his original, iconic look, and so-- unsurprisingly-- is the one most frequently referenced in the Netflix-verse. I adore this costume, giant collar and all, so this has made me a very happy Iron Fist fan.
Tumblr media
This look popped up in some of the earliest trailers, and I’ve been enamored with it ever since. While most of this post will cover the costume’s integration into Danny’s Earth clothes, here we have it invoked by the everyday clothing worn in the MCU’s K’un-Lun. Obviously, this makes a lot of sense. One of my favorite elements of the Iron Fist mythos is the legacy behind the position. While the Marvel universe is filled with superheroes sitting in their apartments, sewing their own spandex, being the Iron Fist is an actual job, and it comes with an official uniform. This uniform has evolved over the centuries, changing to suit current trends and the lifestyle/personality of the person wearing it. But the basic template has remained the same. It makes sense that the robes worn by the warriors in K’un-Lun (at least, in this universe) might reflect the ceremonial colors and style worn by the Iron Fist, and I hope this means that in the MCU, just like in the comics, the costume is an official uniform that Danny will return to K’un-Lun and claim. Not that I have anything against homemade costumes, of course-- but this is something that makes Iron Fist unique, and I would love for it to be preserved in the show.
But anyway, on to Danny’s Earth duds...
Tumblr media
I love this: zipping up the sweatshirt... but only a little bit. This recreation of the plunging neckline is often paired with shirts with either collars or hoods (which achieve the same effect of invoking-- if sadly not recreating-- the giant popped collar), and has remained a signature Danny look since Iron Fist episode 12. Not only is it a great reference, but it also shows off that gorgeous redesign of the dragon brand. Win/win.
Tumblr media
(Check out the rolled-up sleeves in this picture. Look at the sleeve length on his comics costume. Now that’s attention to detail.)
Tumblr media
    (Luke. Luke! Unzip! Come on!)
Tumblr media
(Here it is: the most accurate recreation of the 70s costume. That neckline’s gotta go all the way down, people.)
Tumblr media
Of course, another important component is the mask, which is much more difficult to integrate into casual clothing. But they still pulled it off! In Iron Fist episode 9, Danny improvises a mask out of a shirt to protect himself from a smoke bomb.
Tumblr media
While the front doesn’t resemble his comics mask at all, the arms of the shirt mimic the all-important ribbony bits in the back.
Tumblr media
Wade: “I know you’re a bad mutha, Fisty, but I just can’t get past the ballet slippers! Bwa-ha-ha!”
Heroes for Hire vol. 1 #10 by John Ostrander, Pascual Ferry, and Joe Rosas
They even managed to integrate the slippers (or “booties”, as Luke calls them). Danny spends an episode-and-a-bit of Iron Fist wearing hospital slippers that have the same general look as his shoes in the comics:
Tumblr media
Of course, the color is wrong... which is probably why they then gave him yellow shoes in The Defenders.
Tumblr media
    And finally...
When Danny steps into a superheroic role at the end of The Defenders, we see him doing the Superhero Rooftop Crouch(TM) while dressed in a spiffy green tracksuit.
Tumblr media
Yes, this is the kind of thing that he wears in day-to-day life in the comics...
Tumblr media
...but much more significantly, it also invokes the design of his current 616 costume.
Tumblr media
Maybe this was just a fun easter egg for the fans, or maybe it’s a hint of what is to come. Either way, I have loved the effort put into all these costume references, and can’t wait to finally get the real thing in Season 2.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 4: Marvel and MCU Easter Eggs Guide
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers for episode 4, and potentially future episodes and the wider MCU.
That sure was a grisly ending to an otherwise slow boil of an episode, wasn’t it? The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 4 is heavy on the philosophizing and mostly light on the action…until the end. And while there aren’t as many in-your-face Marvel Comics and MCU references as we’ve come to expect from these Disney+ shows, the events and the weighty dialogue are all steeped in Marvel history.
Here’s what we found…
The Whole World is Watching
The title of episode 4, “The Whole World Is Watching”, is a phrase thought to have originated at Civil Rights events in the 50s, but that came to prominence at the 1968 Democratic National Convention when anti-Vietnam War demonstrators were beaten and arrested by cops outside the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago, a point in US history recently depicted in Aaron Sorkin’s Netflix film, The Trial of the Chicago 7. “The whole world is watching” has been publicly chanted by other groups of activists since.
In the closing moments of this episode, we see John Walker savagely murder one of the Flag-Smasher activists while being filmed by a crowd of onlookers. The whole world has been watching the Flag-Smashers escalate their cause, and now the world is watching Walker go postal.
John Walker
Walker finally takes the Super Soldier Serum, which he has been destined to do since he first arrived in the MCU. He got superhuman abilities from the Power Broker in the comics, too, but in a much more direct way than we witness in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There, he was already augmented BEFORE becoming Captain America, as opposed to here where his insecurities help drive him to the formula.
Lemar (RIP) posits that the Super Soldier Serum just makes people “more of themselves” – sometimes you get Karli, sometimes you get Steve. This echoes comments made by its creator, Doctor Abraham Erskine, in Captain America: The First Avenger. “The serum amplifies everything that is inside,” he said. “Good becomes great. Bad becomes worse.”
Walker, while a decorated soldier, considers the time he spent serving his country to be morally murky at best. Despite Lemar’s warning in episode 2 that he can’t just punch his way out of situations now that he’s Captain America, Walker has proceeded to do just that, and in episode 4 we see that he and Karli are now on very similar – but opposing – paths.
Walker also talks about his past in the military, referencing “the worst day of his life”. Lemar says a lot of lives were lost that day. Presumably, we’ll get to see some flashbacks of exactly what happened in the last two episodes of the series, and how those events led to the MCU’s version of John. All of this feels more nuanced than the version of John from the comics, who was literally known as the Super Patriot before becoming Captain America, and was an unquestioning lover of all things American.
It’s pretty awkward seeing Captain America brandishing a gun with his shield, and that’s a deliberate bit of dissonance the show is playing into. But there was a live action version of Captain America who DID wield a pistol, but it was instead of a shield. The 1944 Republic Pictures Captain America movie serial starred Dick Purcell as not Steve Rogers but district attorney Grant Gardner, who wore the famous costume but otherwise had very little in common with his comics namesake. We don’t necessarily recommend watching this, although it does feature some terrific fights and stuntwork for the era.
Walker smashing through a window when he’s in pursuit instead of taking the stairs is probably the most Steve Rogers thing he’s done yet, to be fair.
Walker murdering a Flag-Smasher in public view is disturbing, but this is a subtle callback to a Captain America story from the 1980s. In Captain America #321, Steve Rogers had no choice but to kill an ULTIMATUM (the comics equivalent of the Flag-Smashers team) agent who was about to gun down a group of hostages. At the time, the official position in Marvel Comics was that Cap didn’t kill, and this high profile event weighed heavily on Steve’s conscience and brought him a ton of bad publicity. It’s a faint echo here with Walker, but an echo nonetheless.
We wrote about this moment and it significance in more detail here.
The final shot of John Walker standing in public with the bloodied Captain America shield is reminiscent of the iconic cover to Civil War #1, where Steve Rogers Cap is also holding a bloodied shield for metaphorical reasons.
The way Walker slays Nico is much like how Rogers defeated Iron Man during the climax of Captain America: Civil War. It’s more interesting due to the contrast of the events. Cap was trying to disable Iron Man in order to protect his best friend and sidekick. Cap 2.0 was slaughtering a man in the name of vengeance due to the death of his best friend and sidekick.
Bucky Barnes
We get to go back six years and see Bucky finish his HYDRA deprogramming journey in Wakanda. We had previously seen only a sliver of what happened between Bucky being put on ice at the end of Captain America: Civil War and his full reemergence during Avengers: Infinity War. Ayo recites his trigger words as that distinctive Winter Soldier score returns, and Bucky gets emotional when nothing happens. We’re not crying, you’re crying.
Bucky stays quiet about Isaiah Bradley when Zemo thinks he’s won the Cap argument. But there never has been another Steve Rogers, has there?” That you know of, Helmut, no.
Sam Wilson
Despite Zemo’s eternal Machiavellian chuntering about Super Soldiers, Sam manages to give him pause when he warns about Zemo playing God, and makes an example of Bucky’s redemption. He also talks Karli around a little bit when he gets a moment alone with her. Seems like this Sam Wilson guy would make a pretty good Captain America, no?
Walker, Zemo and Karli have now all appealed to Sam’s beliefs and background to get him on side. Bucky remains the primary cheerleader of Sam stepping up to be his own man.
Zemo
Zemo compares the Avengers to Ultron and the Nazis. When Sam admonishes him for speaking that way about their friends, Bucky jumps in a little too quickly to clarify that Sam meant the Avengers and not the Nazis. Probably not the best time to unpack all the ways Bucky and Zemo are connected to the Nazis.
Our man in the fetching fur-collared coat also begins to chat about his childhood to Sam and Bucky in this episode, potentially opening the door for some flashbacks with his father, Heinrich Zemo – another man you wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of.
Zemo sings “Baa Baa Black Sheep” as he approaches the children playing outside in the most sinister way possible. Not Marvel-related trivia, but the nursery rhyme was the first of two songs to ever be digitally saved and played on a computer.
Speaking of super old things, the other person to trick a child into betraying their family with a piece of Turkish Delight was the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. In case anyone was wondering if Zemo was turning antihero or not.
Zemo squarely catching a thrown shield to the face is almost funny in its timing, but it’s also remarkable how something that basically happens once an issue in Captain America comics doesn’t seem to have happened all that often in live action.
Battlestar
We say goodbye to Lemar Hoskins aka “Battlestar” in episode 4 when Karli punches him into a stone pillar. Heroes and villains alike are regularly blasted into pillars in the MCU, but this episode acknowledges the realistic effects at long last.
Much like Walker, in the pages of Marvel Comics Lemar received superhuman abilities from the Power Broker, but sadly in the MCU he became the reason Walker snapped instead.
The Dora Milaje
Once again we have Florence Kasumba here as Ayo, and she’s joined by Nomble (Janeshia Adams-Ginyard) and Yama (Zola Williams). As far as we can tell, Nomble and Yama don’t have comics counterparts, but if anyone would like to correct us, just let us know!
A member of the Dora Milaje stamps on the edge of the shield and flips it up in a nice nod to Steve’s Winter Soldier elevator sign-off.
Miscellaneous Stuff
Nico, who admits with some embarrassment that he used to be a Captain America fan, ends up getting brutally killed by Captain America. A firmly ironic yikes. But he’s not the first Cap fan to die for some much-needed plot momentum in the MCU – Clark Gregg’s Cap enthusiast Agent Coulson also took one for the team in The Avengers.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

wakey wakey 😴
My friends and I have been on a Stephen King tip all year long having seen It Chapter Two and Pet Sematary earlier this year, In The Tall Grass on Netflix, and the new season of Castle Rock on Hulu. We decided to see Doctor Sleep opening night and I find it to be quite an interesting concept which turned out to be both an adaptation of the sequel book of the same title as well as a tie-in sequel to the Kubrick classic, The Shining. This one has more of an emphasis on the shining ability and takes place when Danny Torrance is already an adult; and that's all you really need to know going in. I was steadily drawn in by the dark and eerie atmosphere throughout the film accompanied with the heartbeat sound in the score thumping hastily and slowly. It has a lot of callbacks to many of the iconic moments in The Shining (1980) film with scenes re-shot and some (re)done in such meaningful ways. One of those blink and you'll miss it things, but I was able to catch one little Easter Egg, a 217 on one of the doors which is a reference to the room number of the Stanley Hotel (that the Overlook was based on for the novel). I also want to point out that Abra is a RWBY fan seeing that she had posters on the wall and figure by the bed. Fans know that Stephen King loves his Maine a lot, and I've noticed in these adaptations lately that they've been referencing Massachusetts (or New England) a lot which is where I'm from!
Overall a decent sequel story that expands on the lore of the Stephen King multiverse/universe and pays homage to the original The Shining film. It was fun revisiting the Overlook again in a new way. 40 years is quite some time, and the popular film had been referenced and parodied in so many different media since. I still remember the fantastic segment in The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror V episode (aka The Shinning), and I remember how surprisingly tongue-in-cheek it was when it was done for Ready Player One (2018) film. Though don't expect Kubrick style directing here; the pacing felt as if it could have been a quality TV series for Hulu or Netflix, more along the lines of The Haunting of Hill House. In fact it's the same director, Mike Flanagan (who is also from Massachusetts), and even stars one of the actresses who played youngest daughter in The Haunting of Hill House. He had also done the other Stephen King adaptation, Gerald's Game, and other notable horror films in the past like Oculus and the Ouija prequel. There were other faces I later recognized including adult Danny, who is played by Ewan McGregor (of Star Wars and Moulin Rouge fame), Travis from Fear the Walking Dead, and The Giant from Twin Peaks!
If I were to sum this one with a quote from the film, it would be:
taste like whiskey 🥃

What else? Well, he did come out of the closet on Chelsea Handler, (who he still followed after, so I don’t think she outed him, although we may never know the truth of all that, we DO know Fox tried to shove him back in the closet right after and he pushed back) so that they couldn’t “beard” him with Dianna, and so they could not “control” him and his press and his career through holding the truth/lies of that situation over his head and establish a fake persona for Hollywood).
Work constantly in what little free time he had, even between sets on the Glee Live Tour, to meet his deadlines, without violating the terms of his ridiculous contract, to create his own work and earn his own money and brand recognition as a real gay icon and writer for Children and YA audiences, outside of the Fox/RIB Glee machine. While most everyone else was partying, and no, I don’t judge them, that was pretty normal behavior for their ages and what was happening to them.
Earn a Time 100 nod (chosen by Time editors) in 2011, almost a decade before RM got his. Dianna wrote Chris’s blurb for Time 100, by the way, I think that says it all, on so many levels. And RM and Dante were also there, at the Time 100 2011 ball, and pushed Darren, C’s official “plus one,” for most of the Red Carpet press coverage time and Time 100 2011 Glee press WHEN CHRIS WON, what the hell was that? Not that I minded D’s cute adoration, he said so many good things about. Chris, but C did not get equal time or coverage, just look for it, where is all the Colfer coverage for winning the damn thing??? He was mostly just silenced except to say D had a girlfriend, THAT’S the biggest statement we remember hearing from him at that event, beyond being humbled by being in the room with all these scientists, inventors, and world leaders. How shitty is that, but that was the press that went out. Sad. How I wish I had gotten some photos of Chris with those folks, even just him having a conversation behind the scenes.
And, over the years, Time and another respected Men’s publication, Esquire, and even Rolling Stone, would give him recognition and kudos beyond his years, that he earned separate from the Glee machine. RM had ties and connections to other publications, but until his huge Netflix deal, you didn’t see him in the legitimate press that often, most of it was bought and paid for or celeb journalism or required promo for his work, RM’s coverage has mostly fallen into a clear pattern of promo puff pieces, with only a very few exceptions. Chris got his own article in Rolling Stone, separate from the rest of the cast, and the iconic leather bar and Pinocchio photos have been featured in other publications, such as “Men of Hollywood” for the iconic gay image, AGAIN side by side with a long list of heavy hitters. Esquire named him to their exclusive list of “Esquire Anniversary Issue Men of the Year” to represent each year that Esquire was published, based on the year they were born. He was in that publication, AGAIN, with some major heavyweights. When Time put together a special publication on The Greatest Characters Who Never Lived, fanboy Chris was chosen to write the section on Harry Potter, NOT J.K Rowling or Dan Radcliffe.
Time also referenced Chris in an official tweet when they published an issue on gay and trans and intersex youth, as though he had been a key contributor and inspiration to the issue, although not directly mentioned in any article nor as a reporter or author. He mostly kept his nose clean, limited his press, stayed out of the gossip columns, worked his ass off, and made the most of what he was given. When RM got all pissy after the Glee Live Tour, followed by Chris making his movie in the three week break before Season 3 shooting and publishing his first book, even writing a screenplay requested by Disney, and threatened to get rid of Chris (and Cory and Lea, who had all been promised things by Glee and Fox which apparently got shitcanned), I think that was RM’s breaking point. Chris didn’t do anything wrong. He just didn’t need or want RM and Fox to control his career, and was willing to put in the work to seize each opportunity he deemed worthy of where he wanted to go. He bought his first small house, renovated and sold it, and kept making investments. He did things his way, not RM or Fox Studios’ way. He did not want them to define who he was, or who he had to become.
The difference between Season 2 and Season 3 is major, if you know the timeline of everything that happened with everybody.
What did CC do to offend RM?
oh, you know.
have potential. have talent. have incredible drive and tenacity, resulting in a multitude of opportunities and recognition at a young age.
have the willingness to speak up for what his character deserved.
be the absolute heart and soul of the show and be an inspiration to many, setting forth a revolution of lgbt representation and normalization in the media, which would not have happened without him specifically, since his character was created for him.
and so rm responded by tearing away kurt’s imminent success at the end of s3, picking at his insecurities by making digs at his voice and at his appearance, etc.
but we all know who’s risen above in the end

Week 4 - so brandbox is dead... now we turn to Agar.io???
This week has been an interesting one… We looked at BrandBox and the idea behind it and how we would achieve it. While we both really like it, we thought it might have been a little bit ambitious for the time frame we had left…
Keeping our purpose and questions the same we sat down and discussed ways we could use the same premise but on a standard computer screen/TV/projector. Fox then came up with the idea of using an Agar.io model. Agar.io is a mobile/web based game where you’re placed on the screen as a single cell surrounded by floating blobs and a set amount of players from around the world – you then drag your cell around the screen collecting floating blobs to grow in size and eventually the power to overtake/absorb the other players in the board (Hindy, 2015).
Fox started working on that over the next day and I then went around the room and conducted another survey. This time I played with a different way to visualise the data, taking visual cues from Agar.io I decided to make a survey where the participants would instead place a dot relative to the brand they’ve chosen so e.g. if someone had chosen coke originally, the next person to choose coke would place their dot somewhere close-by to the other.
Tumblr media
I got a lot of great feedback from the cohort about how it was a really nice way of showing data and one which they hadn’t really seen before. It was also a useful way for Fox and I to visualise brand dominance within the classroom. From this, Fox decided that he wanted to change what we were doing (again but I’m not mad). He had been working on a program for his programming assignment which was a simulation of the solar system and used the idea of colonies/swarm of planet and space debris – We then discussed using this instead. The way it would work is that the there would be brands placed around the screen in random placement, when the user clicks on a brand, a dot will appear and begin to orbit the brand, however if the brand is subsidiary instead of orbiting around itself, it’ll orbit around the parent brand. So effectively we’re making a custom data-visualisation platform for the purposes of this project. The thing I’m most excited about is that it is real time which means the data is recorded and added as the user interacts with it which is awesome.
Tumblr media
From here, I decided to research some more into brand loyalty and perception. One piece of research I found focused on looking at variety offered and how if a brand has more of a variety of products in their range, the consumer perceives that as a better brand and therefore is more likely to purchase their products – In most cases, approx. 85% of participants in the study chose the brand with the larger variety (Berger, Draganska, & Simonson, 2007). This is an interesting idea, however what would happened if the consumer was pitched with a selection of products, all originating from the same company but under different brands? Do they consciously know that they’re all made by the same people or do they base their decision on the merits of the brands they know? I think this is something we want to try and highlight. Remove the facade these subsidiaries/sub-brands have and make our users question if they know what they’re supporting… The one recurring example we’ve been using is between Coke and L&P – Do consumers buy L&P, aside from the taste, on the merits that it’s a kiwi brand or icon and they think they’re supporting a kiwi based company? Or are they actively aware they’re giving profit to a large multi-national corporation?
Next step for me was to begin to collate a list of brands we wanted to include. We wanted to use brands that are more notable so with that we chose the following – Bold indicates the main/parent brand
Coke Sprite L&P Lift Powerade Pump water Fanta
Pepsi V Just Juice Mountain Dew Fresh Up Disney Marvel Studios Pixar Lucasfilms Netflix
Spotify
Sony
Apple Beats
Microsoft Mojang Skype Nokia Windows
Amazon Twitch
Google (Alphabet) YouTube
All data regarding these brands was pulled from Wikipedia and cross referenced with the parent company websites. We understand that some of these brands (e.g. Google and Pepsi) are actually owned themselves by parent companies but for the purposes of this project and to make it more easily recognisable we treated them as the parent.
While I was doing this, Fox managed to get our program working with user input. Now when you click on one of the larger ellipses, a dot will begin to orbit so that was an exciting day. It was a small step forward but a very promising one as it meant we were only a few days away from actually having a fully fleshed out and working version of our visualisation.

With Showcase next week we also reserved our space officially – we got the prime spot in my opinion, the main projector. The best thing about this spot is that as people walk through the front door or through the corridor between 1103 and 1101/2, ours will be the first thing they see so hopefully we get some good attention heaps of people playing around with our data-vis.
Tumblr media
One more thing I decided I wanted to play with as well was how we could implement different inputs. I investigated the possibility of a MakeyMakey, Arduino Circuit Keyboard and Leap Motion. I only had access to a Leap Motion so that’s what I tested first – A Leap Motion is a hand tracking device that uses infrared cameras to track hand and finger movements, and can reproduce the effect of a touchscreen, but in thin air. I brought this into class and had a play around but after testing the software – which was only compatible with an outdated SDK, we decided it would hinder rather than enhance the experience. Using the Leap was fun, but the speed of tracking and the angles it tracked at meant it was hard for the user to easily control the cursor on screen and to mimic a touch. With the MakeyMakey/Arduino Circuit Keyboard, the idea was to have packaging from the products that were displayed on screen. Then when the user touches the packaging, this would simulate a keypress – Each product would be coded with it’s own key e.g. C for Coke, P for Pepsi, A for Apple – This would then add an orbiting dot to the correlating brand. We didn’t think this would be suitable as it although there’d be a tactile element, we’d need to work out the user experience and how we’d make a correlation by what the product packaging and the changes on the screen. This is something we didn’t really have time for this late in the project.

Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin: Best jokes and insults – NEWS.com.au
Alec Baldwin sat and smiled as he copped an absolute battering during his Comedy Central Roast on the weekend.
Celebrities including Robert De Niro, Caitlyn Jenner, The Hangover star Ken Jeong and comedian Jeff Ross all hurled insults at the actor for the TV special, which will air on The Comedy Channel on Foxtel on September 16.
There were a lot of jokes about Baldwin’s infamous 2007 voicemail to his daughter Ireland in which he called the then 11-year-old a “rude, thoughtless little pig” after she missed his phone call. And Caitlyn Jenner was also on the receiving end of a lot of jabs from the roasters about her transition.
Bingeing just got easier with the New Foxtel Experience. Foxtel and Netflix now all in one place. Get Foxtel
Here are the best jokes of the night.
Sean Hayes to Alec Baldwin: “Don’t worry, Alec. Nothing said here tonight will be meaner than what you said on your daughter’s voicemail.”
Sean Hayes to Alec Baldwin, referencing 30 Rock: “I promise this will be the funniest thing you’ve been a part of that Tina Fey didn’t carry you through.”
Sean Hayes to Robert De Niro: “Is this the same Robert De Niro that did Little Fockers and Dirty Grandpa? I can’t wait for someone to make you an offer you can refuse. Alec Baldwin needs anger management like Robert De Niro needs better management.”
Robert De Niro to Alec Baldwin about starring in two Woody Allen films: “Alec and Woody Allen have a lot in common, except Alec only screamed at his daughter, and Woody, well …”
Robert De Niro to Alec Baldwin about the actor’s tendency to lash out at the paparazzi: “I once saw him take a selfie and punch his own face.”

Robert De Niro to Caitlyn Jenner: “There’s something different about you, but I can’t put my finger in it.”
NBA star Blake Griffin (who used to date Kendall Jenner) to Caitlyn Jenner: “On behalf of the NBA and half of the rappers on the Billboard charts, I want to thank you for giving your daughters their daddy issues.”
Blake Griffin to Alec Baldwin: “You look like if Jimmy Fallon drowned three days ago.”
Nikki Glaser to Caitlyn Jenner: “You’re a Republican, I don’t know why. You’ve already gained control over a woman’s body.”
Caitlyn Jenner to people who don’t support the trans community: “You can suck my d**k … if you can find it!”

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – Our Dreams for a Jurassic Park/Jurassic World Television Series
As many of you may have seen by now, the internet has been over-run with rumours and speculation about a title which recently popped up on Netflix: Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. Now, our friends over at both Jurassic Outpost and Collect Jurassic have already done a fantastic job covering this news – so I didn’t want to just jump in on the train late and provide you with information which is already out there. No. Instead, I thought we would talk a little bit about the potential for Jurassic on television – and maybe explore some of the story threads and extra canonical details which we think could make for compelling stories on the small screen.
So, without any further ado, let’s explore a little bit more about what ‘Camp Cretaceous’, and television in general, could mean for the Jurassic World franchise.
Origins of Jurassic Park
One thing which both haters and fans of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom agree on is the fact that John Hammond’s best friend and partner in the original Jurassic Park venture, Benjamin Lockwood, seems to have appeared out of nowhere. He is not referenced anywhere within the original trilogy of films – with both The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III taking place without any mention of Benjamin or his legacy as co-creator of the original park. Now, whilst we all know that this is because he was never intended to exist during the original stories, that doesn’t mean that there is not now scope to explore a little bit of that within a small screen adaption. Whilst I doubt much, if any, of Jurassic World 3 will be spent in flashbacks – a Netflix original would certainly be an interesting way of allowing us to explore the legacies of these characters and their relationship.
Fallen Kingdom does give us quite a bit of context for what stories we could explore here – particularly when it comes to Lockwood and Hammond’s early creation of dinosaurs within the Lockwood Manor basement. Seeing this familiar location brought to life once more would be incredibly fitting – providing us with interesting prelude to the prominence of the location within the latest film – as the location which ultimately unleashes dinosaurs upon the planet. Needless to mention, as well, is the fact that this would also be an interesting vessel to revisit Isla Nublar one final time – giving fans who were upset at its destruction in the latest film the opportunity to revisit and say farewell to familiar and iconic locations. This short small-screen production could be the perfect nostalgia-filled piece to fill the void between Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World 3 – and could provide us with one final opportunity to revisit long lost characters and locations.
The Fallout of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
Another exciting concept is the idea of potentially exploring the fallout of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom on the small screen – something which could lend itself quite nicely to a more serialised format. Not only do we now have dinosaurs out in rural California (and possibly further afield), but we also have the science out there. The technology. Across the globe – everywhere from Moscow to India and further afield. And that, I feel, provides a lot of potential for interesting story telling in and around the plot of Jurassic World 3. Say, for example, in JW3 our story focuses on Owen and Claire tracking down Blue and Doctor Wu to solve a problem or to potentially relocate the dinosaurs to the Sanctuary Island we see teased within Fallen Kingdom. This would be an exciting storyline and something which I could see JW3 excelling with, but there is no way that a film which is roughly two hours long would be able to cover all the dinosaurs being rounded up and sent to the island. So, the best format would be a serialised series.
I picture something akin to Primeval (yes, I know I am a fanboy), where we follow a team of characters attempting to contain and capture a different animal each episode. You could have some incredibly tense sequences – like a Baryonyx in a sewer, or a Carnotaurus on a woodland trail, and this would lend itself to incredible variety across a serial format. This would also then allow the dinosaurs to have more breathing room then they do in a movie – giving each their own time to shine on screen and have their own memorable sequence. Take, for example, Fallen Kingdom. We have several dinosaurs, but beyond our stand-out stars, the main ones to get memorable sequences are the Baryonyx, Carnotaurus, Sinoceratops and Stygimoloch – when there were in fact additional species like the Allosaurus within the film. As such, I think it is fair to say that each episode would give dinosaurs ‘their moment’ – and would, in turn, do more to explore a greater variety of animals. Plus, with the advent of technology now being available, there is nothing to stop more dinosaurs being out there. My personal choice would be the Giganotosaurus. Imagine one of those on the loose in a city…
Jurassic World: The Evolution of Claire
The next one is probably a little bit unexpected – but I think a serialised version of Tess Sharpe’s The Evolution of Claire could also be a hit for Netflix and Universal Pictures if handled correctly. As is self-explanatory, a novel is already divided into Chapters and so lends itself quite nicely to television as it is. Combine that with the fact that Evolution of Claire is a fundamentally Jurassic story, and I think you have the makings of an incredibly nice story which could explore the beginnings of Jurassic World. There would be the potential to revisit characters like Simon Masrani and Dr Henry Wu – spending far more time with them in episodes of the show then we ever get to in either of the Jurassic World movies. And we would also get the opportunity to experience the slower-paced moments which are often not seen within the Jurassic films – such as the sequence with Pearl the Brachiosaurus. Whilst Jurassic has its fair share of slow and tranquil moments (Think Sick Triceratops or Apatosaur Valley), I still think a show would provide a greater opportunity to explore moments like these at a much more rewarding pace.
Plus, who doesn’t want to see more of Jurassic World in action, right?
Jurassic Park: Stolen DNA
Lastly, we have one of the greatest Jurassic story threads of all time – the infamous specimen-can which Dennis Nedry died carrying. Whilst it would be incredibly hard to continue the story with a character like Lewis Dodgson considering the numerous issues with the actor (which we won’t touch on here), it could be interesting to see another team from the Biosyn company attempt to return to Isla Nublar to recover the lost embryos – or some other form of technology from the island. I can imagine a story which borrowed elements from Jurassic Park: The Game, including the idea of rogue mercenaries and individuals returning in a bid to recover items and make a quick pay-day. Plus, there would be interesting opportunities to greater explore the island – perhaps looking at things like Nublar’s tunnels, which Fallen Kingdom set-designer Andy Nicholson hinted may have been there since the 1993 days.
There is a lot of time between our first visit to Nublar in 1993, and then our return in Jurassic World – and whilst a lot of this is covered within the viral marketing created by the team at Chaos Theorem, I still think that there is ample opportunity to place stories like this somewhere within that gap. There is a lot to love about the heritage of this series – so I will never be opposed to revisiting those memories and locations in one form or another.
Conclusion
To conclude – Camp Cretaceous poses some incredibly exciting ideas for Jurassic fans. What could this series be? Where and when will we explore? Or is it something else entirely?
Whatever Camp Cretaceous may be, it makes us consider the potential that Jurassic as property has for television and for the small screen – and that is something which I think is not only incredibly exciting, but which has a lot of potential too. So, I pose the question to you now. What would your dream Jurassic television show be?
Let me know in the comments below, and stay tuned for more news on Camp Cretaceous as and when we have it!
