el paso, between the crickets and the moon | 5k | gen | post s7, getting together, angst about eddie's childhood because he's staying over in his childhood home
a/n: written as part of the @911fanworksfestival for @p-trichor . I hope you enjoy!
Eddie's not sure if Chris is actually ready to come home, or if the prospect of staying longer and starting Catholic school in El Paso was the thing that got him to call his dad. But frankly, Eddie doesn't really care, doesn’t try to question it too much, because it means Chris is talking to him and is going to be home again. And that means that Eddie can make it up to him, explain some things, and show him how sorry he is. Show him that he's still a good dad. Or at least that he’s always trying to be a good dad, a better dad. And the thought of Chris putting on the same uniform Eddie had years before, with the little blue and white shield embroidered stiffly on the chest, forced to attend Wednesday Mass, taught abstinence only — which is a whole other thing to be anxious about but, regardless, Eddie isn’t going to let his kid get taught sex ed like that — is enough to make Eddie want to rescue Christipher even if it's against his son’s will. But being in El Paso is weird. Eddie hasn't been back since his dad's retirement party, and it's just weird. It's weird because he's apparently expected to stay the weekend while Chris finishes packing — except all he brought with him had been a backpack and everything that Eddie’s parents had bought him was basically just a double of something in L.A., so Eddie isn't really sure what he’s going to pack — and it's weird because he can feel his mom's gaze fixed on his back every second of the trip since the moment he and Buck touched down in the airport. It’s like she’s constantly on the lookout for some reason to keep Chris there, like she’s expecting Eddie to snap and pull out a Shannon wig of his own. Like he’s going to pull out a Shannon wig and plop it onto Buck. Which is a whole other thing, Buck being here. Because Buck is always here and he didn't even hesitate when Eddie said “I bought two tickets”. Because they’re always together and because Eddie knew he would need the moral support while dealing with his parents. That's why he brought Buck. Buck always has his back.

The Heroes Amoung Us
Completed! 22/22 chapters
Words: 87,877
Buddie; Actor!Buck Firefighter!Eddie (also fan!eddie)
Summary:
Eddie feels his life is a mess, with struggling to adjust to civilian life, being woefully out of touch with his team and the struggles of single-fatherhood. The little stability he has gets upturned when he mistakes famous Lonestar actor, Evan Buckley as an adrenaline junkie at the scene of an accident.
Suddenly, Eddie is unable to escape the Lonestar fans, but eventually finds an outlet with his journey into fandomhood. This would be a great way to cope with his PTSD if Evan Buckley didn't keep showing up in his life, making his journey into fandom a little more complicated.
----
Wow! This has been such a journey with this fic. I had so much fun writing this, and is my longest project to date. We follow these boys through a lot of canon events that change as we get to know them.
I started writing this after I watched the Coma episode, and was writing it off and on. As much as it brings me joy that Buck is so integrel to Eddie's life that he would utterly fall apart without him I felt Eddie was so much stronger than that??? like wtf??
I also like the idea that they'll always find each other. I cried a lot writing the last two chatpers, 80k words later and finally they're happy and have everytihng they need.
Thanks!

The level of buddie brain rot is legit insane because I just watched an TikTok from the official NFL account and immediately thought of a buddie AU. If you follow football you’ll know there is a thing called a ‘get back’ coach who’s sole job is wrangle the head coach on the sidelines so they don’t get out of the field and get penalties. The TikTok is of the Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel who has just been informed by the ref that he has to stay in the box because he doesn’t haven’t anymore timeouts left, and when he goes to wander off his get back coach pulls him back by his shirt, and Mike McDaniel being an adorable little shit turns around and tugs playfully on the get back coach’s shirt sleeve, and they both giggle. I personally see Eddie being the head coach in this scenario and Buck being the get back coach, and each time Eddie gets animated about what’s going on on the field, Buck is personally the one to pull him back. It starts out as simple rugs on his shirt or the back of his belt. But as the season goes on, the touches get more hands on, gripping Eddie’s shoulders, an arm around his waist. On one play where Eddie gets especially heated he wraps one arm around Eddie’s waist and rips off his headset and growls in Eddie’s ear, “I know you’re frustrated, but if you go out in that field we’re going to get a costly penalty or your ass it getting thrown out of this game. So, take a breath and calm the fuck down.” And when Eddie finally sucks in a deep breath, Buck whispers, “Good boy,” puts his headset back on and then lets him go. And Eddie Fucking Diaz turns bright pink on live TV.
Here’s the inspo TikTok if you wanna watch it.

Seven (+) Sentence Sunday
Tagged by the very lovely @rainbow-nerdss, @fortheloveofbuddie @wikiangela @evanbegins and @daffi-990. Thank you! Can't wait for all your upcoming works!
In honor of the NFL regular season coming to an end today and the beginning of the playoffs, I'm sharing a part of a fan favorite. That's right ya'll, its an NFL Buck snippet! WOOOOO! (And I know this wayyyyy more than seven sentences, but are ya'll going to complain about extra NFL Buck?)
Eddie wasn't lying when he told Chimney he loved football. He just didn't say how much. When Chim invited the newest member of the 118 and his son to a kid friendly sports bar to watch the Rams play the Colts in Indy, he was expecting to be turned down. Hen encouraged it, "He needs friends that enjoy what he does. And I really can't listen to another rant about football stats or how Dustin Watson isn't taking the Texans to the tournament." "Deshaun Watson." Bobby corrected from the kitchen, "And its the playoffs." Hen rolls her eyes, "Whatever. You both have Sunday free and Buckley is playing, Christopher's favorite player." "How do you know the Ram's quarterback is playing, but not the name of the man who got Buckley kicked out of Texas?" Chim teased. "Denny." His friend answers simply, "You know he likes all things LA Rams." "Then why aren't you inviting Eddie and Christopher to your place to watch the game with Denny?" "Because Howard," Hen remarks a little sharply, "I'm not off Sunday and Karen has yet to meet Eddie, so it would be uncomfortable for everyone to have him in our home without me. Why are you arguing about this? You were just complaining about how Eddie and I are all buddy-buddy the other day." "You two have a lot more in common and somehow I always seem to stick my foot in my mouth whenever I talk to the guy. I freaking outed the dude!" Chimney reminds them. Bobby steps away from the stove and joins the two paramedics at the marble island, "Eddie wasn't making it easy for any of us to get to know him. Hen was just braver than most to actually approach him. Now its your turn and football is a good jumping point." Chimney opens his mouth to try objecting again, "And it will help in making up for the whole outing incident and interrogating his kid."
Cap had him there "And you'll pay." Hen demands and when Chimney arches a brow of slight disagreement she just shrugs and states, "It'll help dispel some of the notion of being his boyfriend's sugar baby and his birthday is the same week, making this an easy gift." And Hen made the kill shot. So Chimney awkwardly approached Eddie in the locker room at the end of their shift and invited him and Christopher to watch the game. He was happily surprised when Eddie said yes and brought an equally ecstatic Christopher with him without hesitation. Chim was additionally surprised with Eddie's total enrapture of the game, even more so with his undivided attention to the Ram's new quarterback, Evan Buckley. Every play the man made, Eddie was on his feet making some sort of comment. Good plays came with shouts of, "Good boy Buckley!" and "Great throw man!". Poor plays, interceptions, or missed opportunities, were met with, "Shake it off Buckley!" and "You got this Evan!" And any missed or bad calls from the refs... well Chimney knew foul language when he heard it, no matter what language. "We have a swear jar at home. It gets donated to Evan's charity at the end of the season." Christopher explains when he catches Chimney's questioning side glance after his father's latest f-bomb. Ah well, at least there's some sort of consequence to cursing in front of a child. "I have to pay up too if I say anything like my dad does, but I've never come close to his number." Chris adds on with a giggle and Chimney joins him with a low chuckle of his own. A niggle of curiosity has him asking, "And what about Buck?" The younger Diaz gives all his attention to what remains of his fries and shrugs with one shoulder, "Um... well I've never watched a game with Buck, but he does always double the jars total when we donate it." Chimney really wants to push on the whole matter of Eddie's partner of 10 years never once watching a game with the kid, but he knows interrigating Chris (again) about Buck (who is off limits unless otherwise brought up) would probably put an end to Eddie and Chim's burgeoning friendship. So he goes for a joke, "He must live with soap in his mouth if your dad is to go by." Earning a full belly laugh from the teen and Chimney counts it as a major win when Eddie glances back with bright grin.
I feel like Eddie and Chim have the whole, I'm friends with you because of a Buckley and because we work together thing. So take away the Buckley and its a bit of an awkward friendship, which I wanted to highlight and improve. Hope you all enjoyed!!!! More NFL Buck can be found here.

let the water hold me down
prompt: "what have i done?"
whumpee: eddie diaz
fandom: 911
hi here is weirdly my first 911 fic of the month!! it's set post 7x10 and deals with the aftermath of the whole kim thing. hope you enjoy! (title from once in a lifetime by talking heads cause i saw the prompt and was like 'oh this will be so good' lmao)
Buck has been feeling a lot of things over the past week. He’s angry—at Eddie, at Kim, at Eddie’s parents, at himself, even a little bit at Chris. He’s incredibly worried and generally sad, and he also feels a little inadequate, because he knows there’s nothing he, personally, can do to make all of this right.
He can only imagine how everyone who’s more directly involved is feeling. The anger and sadness, the confusion and fear, multiplied a hundredfold because it’s you who fucked up, your son who’s left, your wife who is not standing in front of you except she is, and it’s your dad who’s done something terrible, your grandson who wants to run away…
He’s lying on his couch, not doing much of anything beyond contemplating these unpleasant thoughts and listening to the entirely too gentle sound of rain outside, when the doorbell rings.
He gets up slowly. He’s hardly expecting anyone, he has no plans with Tommy, and while he’d considered ordering a pizza earlier, he’d decided against it.
He glances through the peephole, anticipating a salesman of some kind, and then quickly opens the door.
It’s Eddie. He’s a little damp and a lot scruffy and disheveled and he hadn’t used his key. All of this combined means that Buck wants immediately and desperately to hug him, pull him firmly across the threshold and into his space, but he stops himself. Lets Eddie decide.
Eddie steps inside and kicks off his shoes slowly and deliberately. When that’s done, he kind of just stands there, and he looks so miserable it makes Buck’s heart twist in his chest.
“What have I done?” Eddie asks, his voice barely a whisper, and just like that he’s crying.
Buck does hug him now, tugs him close and holds on tight. Eddie sobs into his shoulder, mutters self-recriminations, and Buck rubs gentle fingers against his scalp, splays a hand across his back. He doesn’t say anything, just lets Eddie get all of the grief and rage out of his system.
When he at last stops crying, Eddie just leans against Buck for several minutes. Buck can feel his breathing, a little erratic, and feel his heartbeat, a little too fast.
“I’ve got you,” he says, the words soft against the side of Eddie’s head. It’s the only thing he can say, really. He wants to murmur more soothing words, it’s all going to be okay, but he has no idea of their truth. The thought makes him want to cry himself.
And so he just stands there, keeps his arms around Eddie until the other man is ready to let go, and promises the only thing he can—that he’s here for Eddie, and he’s not going anywhere.
thanks for reading!! see if you can spot the one additional once in a lifetime ref i attempted to sneak in lmao. i hope you enjoyed!!

fuck it friday
not tagged by anyone - i'm scheduling this post in advance to kick things off since i'm driving all day :)
from the buddie fighting fic
Eddie surveyed Buck. He was a couple inches taller than Eddie, but built similarly. A little more defined, a little less bulk, muscles more for vanity than from every day use like Eddie’s. Buck’s hair was unruly and curly, and his eyes were blue, so blue – almost turquoise in the light. He bounced up and down, and Eddie could almost feel him vibrating with energy. Buck shook his hands out, seemingly unable to keep still, raring to go.
There was a sheen of sweat coating Buck’s arms and what Eddie could see of his chest, the lights and the bodies around them heating the ring. A bead of sweat slid down the side of Buck’s face, running down his neck before disappearing into his shirt. Eddie swallowed, his mouth suddenly dry. The ref whistled and Eddie pulled his hands up quickly, expecting Buck to charge. But Buck, despite all his energy, put his hands up and watched Eddie, his body stilling. It was like he was coiled, tensed, waiting to spring, but his eyes were relaxed and easy, watching Eddie.

WARNING: This story contains graphic depictions of rape, with Eddie Diaz written as the perpetrator and Buck as the victim.
The writer AsterRamblings (User ID: 13447051) has since changed it to Anon posting. First, when called out they deleted those comments, then they updated their a/n to discuss the context of the story with a denial and now it reads ”I’m going to villainise who i wanna villainise. you don’t want to see Eddie being the worst, don’t read it.”

Buck, unglued: Eddie KISSED me!!!
Maddie, chill af: Did you kiss him back?
Buck, unhinged: OF COURSE!!!
Maddie, gently amused: So, what’s the problem?
Buck, frantically: There’s no problem! Like…at all!! THAT’S THE PROBLEM!!!
Maddie, patiently: *sips tea, raises exactly one eyebrow over the rim of her cup*
Buck, flabbergasted: I LOVE EDDIE DIAZ WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE!!!
Maddie, sagely: “Shocks are so much better absorbed with the knees bent.”
Buck, exhausted: *wobbling & leaning on a chair* Huh?
Maddie, kindly: Sit down, Evan, before you fall.
Buck: Too late.
Maddie, sisterly: Oh, I see what you did there. Cute. *pours Buck a cup of hot tea*
Buck: *settling into his newly acknowledged reality with hot tea in hand & able to think again* Wait. Did you quote Lord Summerisle?!

the one where buck finds out
y/n drunk dials her crush (isp. by that friends ep.)
Tumblr media
y/n woke up to her head pounding like a drum, the brightness of the sunlight cutting through her blinds caused her to close her eyes tightly. she pulled herself out of bed and cursed drunk y/n for not drinking more water the night before. she entered her bathroom, her socked feet sliding across the floor and grabbed a bottle of advil, taking two pills before entering the kitchen in search of hangover food.
when she entered the main room of her apartment, the front door, which sat inbeteen the kitchen and the living room, swung open and buck entered. "hey, y/n!" he said in tone of voice too cheerful, causing y/n to wince.
"ow." she whined as she searched her fridge for a food that didn't make her want to gag.
"hey, what did i do?" buck asked.
"spoke." y/n said, her voice slightly hoarse.
a look of recognition spread across buck's face, "oh, had a bit too much fun last night?"
y/n nodded before she entered her living room, throwing herself onto the couch with a groan.
"okay, well. can i borrow your charger? mine quit working so my phone never charged last night and it's dead." buck asked, looking around for a chord.
"yeah, it's in my room." y/n's voice was muffled as she laid on the couch. y/n laid there for moment before calling out to buck, "hey, did we talk or hang out at all last night?" when he answered no she continued, "i think i had a dream about you."
"hey y/n, you sent me a voicemail last night!" buck called from her bedroom.
y/n smiled to herself, wondering what a drunken y/n would tell buck she gasped, bolting upright and jumping off the couch.
y/n was scrolling through her fifth article on how to get over the guy when she read number six "find closure, a way to tell him 'i'm over you.'" y/n gasped opening up her phone's contacts and clicking on her favorited one.
"hey buck, it's y/n. i just called to tell you that i'm really drunk and i think you should know something. i don't remember that something but i do remember that i want to get a dog or something and i think i'm gonna name it frank." y/n slurred.
buck laughed as y/n rushed into the room, "who's frank?"
y/n ran toward him and tried to grab the phine from him, "buck, hang up the phone!"
buck stood up and thanked that y/n had a long charging chord. he smiled as he continued to listen to the message as y/n tried to get the phone away from him.
y/n sighed, "anyways. i'm trying to remember why i called. oh! it was this article i read." she cleared her throat, "i need closure, so here i am. guess what. i. am. over. you. i'm over you! that is closure! ha!" and with that y/n hung up phone and tossed it to the side, focusing her attention to her tv.
"y-you're over me?" buck asked. y/n stopped trying to jump up and get his phone as he continued, stunned, "when-when-when, when were you, uh, under me?"
"t-that's a really good question. ever since maddoe introduced me to you." y/n said sheepishly.
"that-that long!" buck exclaimed sitting down in the edge of y/n's bed. y/n sat next to him and nodded, maddie had introduced the two of them after matter has started working as a 911 operater. y/n was a nurse who maddie befriended when she would visit the hospital to see chimney (and later buck). y/n had nothing to do with chim's case but the two had made small talk in the cafeteria one day and became fast friends.
"i-i'm sorry i didn't tell you. i was afraid you would act, well like this." y/n said, sitting next to him.
buck took a deep breath, "no, i think i'm okay. i get it." he paused, calculating his next sentence. "i was worried if i told you, uh, you'd act weird and we would be friends anymore."
"you tell me?" y/n asked, confused.
"well, yeah." buck was hesitant, "but if you're over me then i guess-."
"no, no, no. i-i'm not actually over you, i was just drunk and influence by a few too many cosmo articles and i-." y/n was cur of by buck kissing her, his hand held her chin softly and y/n placed her hands on either side of his face. they pulled away with a smile.
"how's your hangover? is it too bad to get food?" buck asked. y/n shook her head and licked her lips.
"no, i just need to get dressed." she said looking down at her outfit, which consisted of bike shorts and a t-shirt wat was three sizes too large. buck laughed and left the room, allowing y/n to change. the two went on their breakfast date and buck bought y/n the best hangover food he could think of, tacos.
