Back on my punk Danny AU

So punk is pretty anti-authoritarian, loud, fast, and contains a lot of anger, anger at how the world is. It can also be very compassionate to the downtrodden an those the system fails

You know who else has a lot of anger and compassion?

Jason Todd

Jason Todd, the second Robin, the Red Hood. The man was born to be punk.

Danny just works as a punk. His villains range from the government to a Billionaire to a ghost cop. It makes more sense than not for his experiences to have turned him in that direction, and let's face it one Sam Mason would have helped, even if punk and goth are different

So we have one dead punk boy living in a shitty apartment in Gotham, and we have another dead punk boy moving into a shitty apartment in Gotham

They're neighbors(I'd say roommates for the meme but Jay needs the added privacy)

So now we have two punks with messed up sleep schedules living next door to each other. They clearly vibe, they hang out, go to each other's apartments and Jason practically force feeds Danny a healthy meal that has enough preservatives in it to give Ra's a run for his money

Then Jason got careless

Jason, after accidentally mentioning the outlaws multiple times during a phone call, now has to deal with the fact that Danny thinks it's the band he's in. It's fine, all he has to do is play it cool, roll with it and it'll be no big deal

being unable to shut his mouth, he actually digs himself deeper. Now, Danny doesn't just want to see them play, he wants to join, and Jason has made the mistake of saying he needs to ask the band first, only to call Roy who is a little shit and goes "Yeah he can join our band."

Cut to Jason, Starfire, and a sheepish Roy scrambling to actually be a punk band as they get sucked further and further into committing to the bit

Behind you, you hear Roy’s voice. “Fuck. Fuck.”

Thinking that there’s something wrong with the lock he’s trying to pick—wouldn’t be the first time he made something explode by accident—you quickly look over your shoulder.

Roy’s two steps away from being right on top of you, and he’s advancing with the swift silence of a large, predatory cat. Confused, you instinctively turn and hold up your hands; he takes your fingers in his and presses your arms back against the table behind you.

“You know how sexy you are?” His tone is dark and needy, perhaps a little bratty; you roll your eyes, and he pulls the collar of your costume down to reveal the base of your neck. “Loved how you looked when you took that guy down with your thighs.”

“We don’t have time for this,” you groan the moment Roy’s lips connect with your collarbone. Your skin reacts against your will, warming underneath his mouth, and you forlornly wish you were home instead of in a gang hideout.

“She’s so pretty when she blushes,” Roy murmurs against your throat, but you can feel that his eyes are on Jason. 

When you hear a disgruntled noise from across the room, you’re almost certain that Jason’s going to agree with you; your little team of three does not have time for this.

He’s at your side in a second, sheltering both you and Roy with his broad shoulders. And then he says, “Let me look at you, princess.”

Jason’s gloved fingers guide your chin to look up at him, and you’re met with the cold gleam of his mask. Somehow, you still know there’s a shit-eating grin on his face.

“Oh,” Jason chuckles, rubbing your cheek with cool leather. “Yeah, that’s gorgeous. Gonna have to take her home and do something about this.”

Au where when Jason comes back from the dead he doesn’t become a crime boss, he just comes home and is up front with bruce. But he still has that anger against bruce that he then takes out not through violence, but through music. He Fronts his band “Red Hood and the Outlaws”, he plays guitar with Roy on drums. They are a very angsty early 2000s rock band. While allot of the anger is directed at Bruce, he is just happy that Jason is back and addressing his trauma through a non violent method.

Alfred will jam with them sometimes, playing the piano.

When Talia drops Damien off with Bruce, he sees Jason’s band and want’s to play violin with him.

Tim Helps produce them in the studio under the moniker “Dj Drake”.

Dick is in the front row with glowsticks dancing like his life depended on it.

Joker is befuddled over how this famous musician looks eerily like the robin he killed.

saw you wrote reverse robins too, it always has a thing for me. what's your headcanon about it? any particular ship you like?

oh i ADORE Revers Robins, i wish i got the chance to write it more! i think there's something interesting in the challenge of flipping these characters and trying to see how they would change in each other's arcs. How Tim would approach being Red Hood, how Damian would approach being Nightwing, etc. it's all so interesting to me. some headcanons i have are

i think, making Damian the oldest and forcing him to mature on his own with just Bruce is fascinating. bc it's going to make a *very* emotionally closed-off Bruce. the bulk of Damian opening up happens when he's Dick's Robin, so to make it just him and Bruce destabilizes a lot of that. Bruce chose Dick, but if Damian's the oldest, it's likely he didn't choose Damian, he got stuck with him. which adds to their dynamic and imo makes Damian a bit more stunted in the way Dick is, in that being raised solely by Bruce can make one. emotionally constipated. i do think Damian would be forced to mature a lot faster and would be a very quiet person.

i've mentioned this in a post talking about JayTim in RR AUs, but Tim as Red Hood would be *far* more calculating, imo. i think a lot of the emotion of Jason's actions would be stripped from it. even if you make Tim a killer (such as when Tim is Savior in a future universe) he's never going to be a "heads in a duffel bag" killer. he's going to be planned and methodical about it. (like how he almost killed Boomerang) half of his plans would be hidden from Bruce and i think part of the game for Tim would just be seeing how much Bruce even figures out.

replacing Tim with Jason instead of vice versa is interesting, bc it forces Jason to enter the role of Robin with a lot more caution. i think his backstory still works in a RR situation, street kid Bruce just kinda plucked from nowhere and called Robin. bc Bruce is grieving, and this if the first kid whose mischief sort of reminds him of Tim. but bc there's a dead Robin before Jason, it means he's going to be treated with much more care. and his anger regarding entering a Red Robin role could be interesting bc he is known for his anger and i do think he'd be far more violent about the transition, as opposed to Tim's self isolation route.

for RR, i always always prefer that it's Damian who adopts Dick. usually i like it best as Damian adopting Dick when Bruce is "dead", but i think it also works if Bruce is alive when Dick comes into the picture. it'd make for a stunted relationship bc of how closed off Damian is while *wanting* to do right by this kid, or at least do better than Bruce did. and i think Damian as Dick's mentor figure would make how Dick confronts his anger very different.

as for Steph, in any case where i do a Reverse Robins, mentally know i'm also picturing it with a Reverse Batgirls. and to keep from Cass just not moving around, i'd include Helena's time as Batgirl and thus, Steph is Oracle, Cass is Huntress, Helena is Black Bat, and Babs is Spoiler. which, makes canon ships like TimSteph and DickBabs a lot of fun. also you have a lot of curious things to explore by flipping Cass and Helena's moral codes under their vigilante titles. Cass as an outsider to the Batfam instead of being under Bruce and Babs' wings? could *really* force her to do unsavory things. and Helena with more support could be a bit softer around the edges. honestly, i could make a whole post about Reverse Batgirls too bc i think most RR AUs don't tend to address the women in it, which is terrible. gimme Oracle!Steph. and with Spoiler!Babs, if you play with Babs brother that rarely exists being the person she becomes Spoiler to stop, that could be super fun.

as for my favorite RR ships: i'm a suck for RR!TimDami. i think it's just bc of all ships, that one tends to play with the AU the most, in my experience? which is *so* fun bc Nightwing!Damian and Red Hood!Tim struggling to reconcile is everything. i devour every fick. i'm also particular to JayTim, just bc i think Jason as Robin seeing Red Hood!Tim would *immediately* be too interested for his own good as he copes with his anger of being replaced as Robin. but seriously any RR ship if the worldbuilding is done well will always draw me in. i just adore seeing how ppl explore filling in the logical loopholes and if backstories need to be adjusted or not and how personalities would naturally change in the situation. it's endlessly fascinating to me.

this is part of my Coruscant City Outlaws AU, which is different from my Coruscant City AU (which is also an au I have not posted about ever). this version is technically a Titans (show) au. which I have not watched btw. so in actuality it’s kind of a mishmash of stuff from the comics, my brain, and what I’ve seen of various Titans media including the show. not much of that is relevant to this tiny snippet though; this bit is mostly inspired by the Death In the Family comics. but if you want to know more of the Coruscant City and/or Outlaws AUs come and yell at me about it maybe 🥺

Strike spat blood onto the warehouse floor and watched the gray floor turn red. The mime thugs hauled her up before she could do it herself, and she stumbled as they jerked her onto her feet roughly.

“You okay?” Jason said hoarsely from across the room.  “Just dandy. Worry 'bout yourself.” She turned to wipe her bloody mouth on one of the mimes’ vest, and had the satisfaction of seeing his face twist in disgust. 

“I think you should both worry about each other and yourselves!” The Joker bent to prod Jason right in his broken arm, and Strike clenched her jaw as he let out a grunt of pain.  “No one gives a damn what you think, Joker,” she hissed. 

“I give a damn what I think. Why does no one ever factor me into these things?” He shook his head like a disapproving parent, and Jason spat in his face. “Ugh. Children these days.” Then he leaned over to pull Jason up by his collar and hefted a crowbar in the other hand. 

Strike struggled against the mimes, but they didn’t budge. “You hurt him and I’ll-” “You’ll what, tiny? You’ll hit me? I am shivering in my shoes.” “Get the fuck away from him!”  The Joker only grinned and twirled the crowbar in his hand. “But dearie, dancing is so much funner. And who doesn’t want to dance with uncle Joker?” He slammed it into Jason’s ribs, and he doubled over, coughing.  “I swear to God, Joker, I’ll kill you,” she snarled, voice shaking with pain and exhaustion, and he laughed.  “You flatter me. Watch this space to see what happens next!” 

She lunged towards them, but the mimes pulled her back; all she could do was watch and scream.

Red Lantern!Kara: “Hey, I’m gonna go float in the sun for a little while until I feel less like ripping everyone’s heads off! Anyone want anything?”

Red Hood!Steph: “IDK, space diamonds?”

[Some time later]

Duke: “Are these diamonds?!”

RH!Steph: “Yeah. Space diamonds.”

Duke: “Why do you have so many space diamonds?!?”

RH!Steph, not wanting to admit it’s the only thing she can think of every time Kara goes to space: “Wouldn’t you like to know, flashlight boy?”

DP x DC: Make Sweet Music Together

After Bruce passed on a tip about possible mass mind control, Jason and the outlaws infiltrate a music festival as one of the bands. Between him, Roy, and Starfire, they had the look, and after a bit of practice, they could half ass a performance if needed. Now they just had to find the cause, and hopefully before they actually had to play. Three days of noise and sweaty unwashed festival goers while they watch their suspect, what could go wrong?

Danny, older and hopefully wiser, had lost his home. He could not go back to Amity Park, without risking his (half)life and that ate at him. His missed his friends, his home, his haunt, but they were out of reach from him. 

Losing his home was a bigger blow than any physical one he’d ever received. Ghosts are purely emotion and thought. Mental wounds cause far more damage than anything else. Not fist, blasters, or scalpels could compare. He was a weakened shell of his former self, always in need of something more. 

And Ember had helped him fill that need. She had found him, shivering and alone, and had taken him under her wing. She had trained him, showed him how to make music, make others happy with it, and fill that need. She had given him a purpose, and he was grateful. 

When a tall man bult like a tank started cozying up to him, Danny thought things might not be so bad. Sure, he had their big show to get ready for, but there wasn’t any harm in enjoying the festival with this “Tod Peters”

Jason is investigating Danny and Ember with the Outlaws. Jason charms Danny for information, and finds himself genuinely enjoying Danny’s company. Starfire and Roy might also get involved if we want to make if poly(which I kind of do)
