i think it's important to remember that martin heidegger was appointed to the position of rector at freiburg university in 1933, he joined the nazi party soon after. and even after the fall of the third reich, a whole host of intellectuals fell over themselves, and each other, to rehabilitate him. if you're still unsure about the close relations between the university and nazism, you can take a gander at heidegger's speech on the commencement of his rectorship.
but that example is about an individual philosopher, and one that i despise. for a contemporary example, you can look at the akhil bharatiya vidyarthi parishad (abvp), the student wing of the rashtriya swayamsevak sangh (rss), which is generally considered the largest student organisation in india. needless to say, they have cadres in every discipline, because it would be absolutely impossible to grow quite so massive without student participation across disciplines.

Zakharova basically retired?? She’s now going to be the headmistress of Bolshoi Ballet Academy.
I’m guessing this is a soft retirement. She’ll probably show up for a gala every now and then, dance Dying Swan or some other elder prima variation. I mean….Alessandra Ferri is “retired” but still performing.
I kind of wish she would take over Vaganova, and Tsikaridze the Moscow school. But it seems that job was always hers and his rectorship the consolation prize.

That chaotic day...........
I arrive in the morning, no more electricity and heating in the school where I work. The rectorship? as long as there is the fire alarm working, no worries about taking our classes (10 degrees in each room!!!). We are several teachers to ask for our right of withdrawal as long as it is not settled. The solution ? we put the classes outside while waiting (they were cold in class? well, be cold outside instead).
In addition with the lack of communication, the students are exhausted and what was bound to happen did happen ; a crowd movement of students to rush towards the exit (I am still shocked by the scene).
Oh and for lunch ? cold for the students! a bag of crisps, an apple and a compote........
And once everything is back "to normal", we take over the students in the afternoon, overexcited and tired (how surprising given the meal).
Really, these working conditions are insane, I'm exhausted at times (TT^TT)

The joys of being a trainee teacher in France
The affectation's procedure !
More specifically, the administration. Thank you Mom, without you, we wouldn't have known there were files to send to the rectorship in the shortest time ever. (A.k.a. two days. We're on holidays far from home.)
Files we have sent at least 3 times.
Also, we're still half-students so we pay the Student Life Fee. Yay.
I'll keep you up on things, it'll be our fil rouge of the year.

St. Robert of Newminster was a native of Yorkshire, & even in his childhood an enemy to the usual amusements of that age, loving only prayer, serious reading, & useful & pious employments. Having finished his studies, he was ordained priest, & instituted to a rectorship of a parish in the diocese of York; but after discharging that office some time with great assiduity & zeal, he resigned that living, & took the religious habit in the Benedictine monastery of our Lady in York. Richard, the prior of this house, & 12 others, desiring to serve God according to the primitive institute of the Benedictine Order, left the monastery, with leave of the abbot, & endeavoring to execute their project, struggled with incredible hardships; till Thurstan, the pious archbishop of York, gave them a desert valley, called Scheldale, with the town of Sutton, where, in the midst of winter, & in extreme poverty they founded the celebrated abbey which, from certain springs, was called Fountains, in 1132. The Cistercian Order, which had been lately introduced into England, & settled at Rievalle, was perfectly agreeable to the fervent dispositions of this holy colony; & at their request the monastery of Fountains was received into it by St. Bernard, who in his letters extols the perfection and sanctity of this new nursery of saints, which, from the beginning, was a model to the whole order for devotion, austerity in fasts, labor, by which all the monks procured their subsistence, fervor in all religious exercises, & cheerfulness in singing assiduously the divine praises. St. Robert seemed so far to eclipse the rest of this holy company by the lustre of his piety, that they all had their eyes on him in their religious duties, & studied to transcribe his fervor in their actions. St. Robert finished his course by a happy death on the 7th of June, 1159. Miracles attested to his sanctity to the world. He is named in the Roman Martyrology. https://www.instagram.com/p/CegJmyTLu_4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HISTORY OF SAINT JAMES’: ANTEBELLUM THROUGH RECONSTRUCTION

HISTORY OF SAINT JAMES’: ANTEBELLUM THROUGH RECONSTRUCTION
Tumblr media
Archives Enriched With New Find
Recently, parish records have come to light that reveal important aspects of our past – a Parish Register for the years 1859 through 1871 showing baptisms, marriages and burials, thereby covering the period before, during, and after the Civil War.  Owing to the absence of vestry minutes for the Civil War years, and an incomplete reference file, your historian was under the impression that no records existed within Saint James’ Church during that time.  The recent find provides insight into those tumultuous years, as well as the inclusion and accommodation of African-Americans before and after Emancipation.
Civil War Records
Readers will recall that the Rev. Otto S. Barten, D.D. was rector throughout the Civil War.  From outside sources we know that during those long, dark years, Dr. Barten carried out his ministry with distinction, although under the most trying circumstances.  Early in the war, other churches in Warrenton were converted into hospitals; Saint James’ was the only church that continued to function as a church.  The recently discovered archives reveal that Dr. Barten kept vital records of baptisms, marriages, and burials, apparently entering them all at once – at war’s end and at the close of his ministry.  Particularly moving are burials recorded of men who died in battle and from wounds.
Recorded in the Register are burials of 102 Confederate soldiers and 2 nurses.  The first soldier to fall in battle was the highly regarded Captain John Quincy Marr, age 36, killed at Fairfax Station on May 31, 1861, who, after accorded full honors, was laid to rest in Warrenton Cemetery on June 2, at a burial service conducted by Dr. Barten.  That year – 1861 – saw the most casualties; Dr. Barten buried 82 fallen Confederates who came from all over the south.  All the while, Dr. Barten was tending to his flock in the midst of tragedy and deprivation.
African-American History
Moreover, beginning in 1859 – before the Civil War, entries for “colored” persons, who were baptized, married, and buried by Dr. Barten are recorded in the same Parish Register.  In many cases, they are identified as servants of parishioners and members of servant families.  The first African-American church in Warrenton, established after the war in 1867, was First Baptist Church on Lee Street, which then moved in 1890 to the present site on Alexandria Pike, just below the courthouse.
The Rev. James R. Hubard, D.D., succeeded Dr. Barten in 1866; he kept excellent records which were incorporated into the same Parish Register.  Throughout his rectorship, completed in 1871, Dr. Hubard continued to minister to members of the African-American community associated with Saint James’ Church.  Needless to say, the newly discovered Parish Register is a rich source of information on the crucial role of Saint James’ Church at a time of great upheaval, followed by the difficult Reconstruction years.

[Irregular Webcomic! #2154 Rerun](https://ift.tt/3r4Ao5x)
In reality, I don't think Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was a Cockney. Just to dispel any misconceptions or accusations that I'm misrepresenting reality.
Actually... I'm writing fictional comics. Of course I'm misrepresenting reality!
2021-03-20 Rerun commentary: Dodgson was actually born in Daresbury in... wait for it... Cheshire. He lived there until the age of 11, when in 1843 his father took up the rectorship of the Church of St Peter in Croft-on-Tees, North Yorkshire. He went on to study at Rugby School in Warwickshire, and then Oxford University. So there's pretty much no doubt that he was not a Cockney.

I have never gone into public life. Most of the ills we suffer are caused by people going into public life
