Blue Under the Colourless Sky by vail-kagami (LJ). T. 4k. This. was. so. good. And melancholic. And bittersweet. And saying more would spoil it. (death is discussed)

Catharsis by babel. E. 40k+ still WIP. This is all I ever wanted from a McCoy/Spock fic. Follows season 1 of TOS. What if Spock and McCoy had an arrangement.

Coming Through in Waves by Cirth. T. 6k. “Spock dislikes doctors.” This was just lovely. A great character study from Spock’s POV. Includes room sharing and bathroom sharing. 

Deepening of the Spirit by lynndyre. G. 1k. A short fic set after the last film. Sweet and warm, finally getting together after all those years.

Distances series by berlynn_wohl. G-E. 54k. The first story is pre-slash and can be read as a standalone mission fic. A nice series spanning years. Written in 2007.

Down The Long Corridors Of Air by Thistlerose. T. 7k. This is another fic that demonstrates quite well what I like in the pairing. “A circle has no end. Spock and McCoy over the years.” Spoilers up to ST VII. Written in 2009.

Further Study Needed by J. Rosemary Moss. G. 2k. Cute pre-canon fic. McCoy tries to teach Spock how to flirt. Pre-slash. Written in 2008.

My Little Town by Phoenix. M. 8k. Post-movies. McCoy’s mother dies, and McCoy goes back to Earth to sell the old house. Spock accompanies him. A bit sad, melancholic story where the two of them finally stop avoiding what’s between them.

Spock of Baker Street by K. V. Wylie. M. 18k. Crossover with Doctor Who. The Guardian of Forever “kidnaps” Spock and McCoy, and throws them into late 19th century Britain. They meet a guy named Arthur, and live at Baker Street. And investigate a murder. Established relationship.

Teshuvah by K. V. Wylie. PG. 20k. A reincarnation AU - i.e. McCoy gets to relive his life again.

The Secrets of Pine Cones by K. V. Wylie. PG. 9k. Movie-era. Married Mc/S. McCoy is observing Ramadan, and this year, after many years spend together, Spock stays at home and keeps him company for the first time. A very lovely fic, written from Spock’s POV.

Through A Glass, Darkly by Jane Carnall. M. 67k. mirror ‘verse. pon farr. mind bond. Written in 1988. (on ao3: prime spones part and the mirror spones 3-parter)

This Must Be The Place by therev. M. 38k. Spock learns that Spock Prime and his Leonard McCoy were in a relationship, and... This was one of the first mc/s fics I read, and it’s still among my favourites. It also showed me that aos!mccoy/spock could work. The mood is a bit melancholic (and perhaps a bit slice-of-life-ish), it’s set post-Beyond, and it has Joanna.

the 1960s were also known as the swingin' sixties, and that name could not be more appropriate. while some other decades had moved towards comfort, the 1960's truly embraced it. some of the youth simply threw on a tunic and stepped into some pants and walked out the door! the popularity of television broadcasted different styles and trends across the country and the world. new materials like acrylics and polyesters were cheap to produce and to buy, and made fashion more accessible than it ever had been. the swingin' sixties brought the youth miniskirts, striped sweaters, the boxy "mod" look, and the bright, fun makeup associated with famous artists like twiggy. some older women tended towards the skirt + suit jacket combination worn by first lady jackie kennedy, but the comfort of the youth was appealing to all ages. beatnik fashion was also popular, with trim black trousers and dark sweaters. in 1964, hairspray was the most popular beauty product on the market – and it showed in the elaborate updos of the era. as the decade drew to a close, the "hippie" style was a popular look among the youth, with loose fitting tops and baggy pants, as well as maxi skirts. many of the hippies incorporated crafts into their fashion, with patchwork and beadings becoming popular.

this is only a very brief summary – the trends and influences of the 1960s are vast and complex, just as the 1960s themselves were. the social revolutions mirrored the revolutions in fashion, and i could write essays about it. but i am tired and i moved in today.

The Forgotten, The Forgiven

Request: Hi! I saw your requests were open and that you write for the Charmed Reboot! If I could, can I send in a request for a Maggie x sibling reader (or sister or other pronouns if you prefer!) who is adopted and has had a bad life, but Maggie slowly helps them with self love?

A/N: Hey! Thanks for the request, I hope I did the promt justice!

Warnings: Potion abuse, mentions of child abuse

A spell. A simple spell she’d found in her mother’s diary hidden in the attic. It was supposed to reveal the hidden, the invisible, the forgotten. Macy read through the spell. The ingredients were simple and easy to gather. Rosemary, thyme and lavender, a few candles, crystals and chalk.

She read through the grimoire once more, wondering what her mother hid, perhaps it was the answer they’d been looking for, perhaps it was the chest to which the mysterious key fit. Sniffing, she continued drawing the runes as directed, sprinkling the herbs as she went. Once they were done, she chanted,

“Omnum revelare, omnum revelare, omnum revelare.

Memorias occultas, res perditas,

quaere veritatem,

suscipe sumptus.

Pretium solvit. Revelare!”

As the last word slipped from her lips, the magic surrounding her clicked into place, flowing from her through the house, revealing the hidden. Her magic pulsed as it pulled layers of protective enchantments, battering against shields till she heard a scream in the distance.

She rushed out of the attic, following the cries of pain through the house till she climbed down the stairs, rounding the corners to find the source of the tearful sobs. Their sister, the youngest, lay crouched in a ball along the stairs as she cried, her heart wrenching sobs echoed through the house as Macy moved towards her sister in an attempt to comfort her, yet her sister screamed louder every time she tried to comfort her or get closer to her. The third time she tried, a wave of magic echoed through her sister as it pushed Macy back before solidifying into a shield around the young witch’s body.

Macy, unsure of what to do, frantically called Harry and her sisters home as she stood guard outside the shield, watching to make sure her sister hadn’t harmed herself.

White light flashed in the living room as the white lighter and the two charmed sisters appeared, rushing towards Macy and their sister.

“What happened?” asked Harry.

“I-I don’t know, I was upstairs, doing a revealing spell and I finished and after that I-I head her scream and rushed down. What happened to her?” Macy asked quickly.

A moment later Mel approached the shield, trying to touch it, “No! Don’t!” Macy screamed as Mel was pushed back. “Her magic created an impenetrable shield around her, it’s defensive magic, it responds to her emotions and right now she’s in fight-or-flight mode,” said Harry, observing the shield.

“So, what do we do?” Mel asked, wanting to get her sister out of her self-made shield.

“There’s nothing we CAN do. She has to feel calm and safe; only then will the shield recede. And before you ask, Mel, we can’t force her out without damaging her magic,” Harry sighed, glancing worriedly at the witch, worrying about what caused the young girl such strife.

“Can I try something?” Maggie asked slowly.

Harry stared at her apprehensively, “What are you gonna do?”

“You said she needs to feel safe, right? Well, I’m gonna make her feel that way,” Maggie said confidently.

She slowly walked towards the glowing shield, humming softly as she wove magic within the familiar tune. Slowly her lips parted as she sang, projecting calm through every word as the sound of her lilting voice echoed through the room. It was an old lullaby their mother used to sing to them on stormy nights.

The shield slowly crackled, almost responding to the slow notes of the song as it slowly faded from existence. Her sister was calm once more, her frame curled around her knees, almost shielding herself from the world.

Harry walked forward, gently scooping up the sleeping girl and taking her to her room. He laid her on the bed before exiting the room and turning to her sisters, “She’ll be out for a while. Her magic is no doubt drained after creating that shield.”

“What do we do, then?” Macy asked, feeling guilty. Perhaps she botched the spell and caused her sister so much pain.

“We wait. And when she wakes up, we will be there to support her, as always,” Maggie said, determined not to leave her sister alone.

Hours passed before she finally awoke, gasping for breath as memories flooded her, painful forgotten memories that she’d begged Marisol to hide. Dark secrets of her past that lingered in her subconscious, whispering maliciously in her ear, venomous and demeaning.

She was broken from her thoughts as the door opened, Maggie walked in with a tray of sweet-smelling mug and her favourite snacks. “You’re awake!” Maggie exclaimed in excitement as she quickly placed the tray beside her bed before tightly embracing her sister

“Are you okay?! What happened to you?” Maggie asked frantically after pulling away.

“I remember…chanting and then a flood of memories and then pain. What happened?” she asked Maggie.

After briefly explaining what had happened, Maggie asked, “What do you remember?”

“You know how mom adopted me when I was younger?”

“Yeah? What about it?” Maggie asked.

“Well, I remember my mother, not Marisol, my birth-mother. I can remember her screaming at me, calling me worthless when I couldn’t cast a spell properly or-or quickly enough. Her voice echoes in my head, calling me unworthy,” she stuttered as she tried making sense of the memories, “I-I could hear all these voices- it was too much,” she exclaimed, tears in her eyes.

“Shh, it’ll be okay little sister, we’re here for you. All of us. We love you,” Maggie reassured as she slowly rocked the younger woman back and forth through her sobs.

Getting back to normal took time. Her memories have been blocked by Marisol for a reason but now that they were back, she had no choice but to try and navigate through the voices, through the abuse. She tried to ignore it, the nagging thoughts as she tried to function, yet everyday was an arduous journey with seemingly no end. She’d tried to bury her pain, but when that didn’t work, she turned her gaze to magic. Though Maggie had tried the same solution and failed, she saw no other choice, anything to numb her feelings of pain and rejection.

The potion was quick to grind as she smothered the green paste on her arm, whispering the incantation as she felt her pain recede, the numbness setting in as she breathed slowly. Finally, she could focus on her work, on her research.

The rest was a blur, her over-working herself, living on caffeine and the potion as she kept herself huddled in her room. Her sisters were none the wiser, each busy with their own lives until one day Maggie stumbled in on her mixing the potion, the ingredients were familiar to the young witch.

“What’re you making, sis?” Maggie asked nonchalantly.

“Just a paste, a new potion I was trying,” she replied monotonously, trying to hide the ingredients from the older witch.

“Oh really? I think I recognize the ingredients, dear sister,” Maggie said as she pulled the bowl from her hands, “Why are you trying to block out your emotions?”

“I-I just can’t anymore, Maggie. I can’t pretend that everything is normal,” she said, her voice breaking down as the potions effects wore off. It had been hours since her last dose. She could feel her emotions trickling in, the pain she’d been running away from slowly flooded her.

Maggie placed the bowl on the counter and hugged her sister, slowly comforting the younger woman as she led her to her room. “You’re not gonna use that potion anymore, it can be addicting, to not feel pain. I should know. But this just hurts you. You’ll have to face it, and I’ll be there by your side.”

“Okay,” she said softly. Maggie sat on her bed, “Now, what’s gonna happen is first, you’re gonna talk about it, we’re gonna talk about your past and then I’m gonna order some takeout and maybe a movie, one of your favourites. Any time you feel bad, you’re gonna come find me, okay?”

“Okay Maggie,” she said as she snuggled in her blankets, sighing as she recounted her memories to her sister. The older woman listened, holding her as she broke down, offering comfort.

It was hours before her sobs stopped. She felt better, she wasn’t okay, but she felt better now. In that moment as she nuzzled deeper into her sister’s comforting arms, breathing her familiar comforting scent, she realized, no matter what, her family would be by her side.

APARTMENT 7A (2024)

There have been a ton of horror films over the years that have ripped off Roman Polanski’s classic 1968 horror film Rosemary’s Baby (I’ve seen at least two which stole scenes from it in just the last few months), so it is kind of a surprise that it has taken so long for an official reboot of the movie.

Apartment 7A is not a remake of Rosemary’s Baby – it’s actually a prequel – but the film is based on Ira Levin’s classic novel (as was the 1968 film) and has a very similar storyline and old-fashioned style to the original. In fact, it seems that the movie was originally conceived as a remake as written by Skylar James, but when that project didn’t take off, writer/director Natalie Erika James reconceptualized the story to show the happenings in the Bramford, a mysterious old apartment building in New York. (As with Rosemary’s Baby, the Bramford is filmed in the famous Dakota on Central Park West in the Upper West Side.)

In fact, the makers of Apartment 7A are being a bit coy about the connection, not really pushing the fact that it is a part of the Rosemary’s Baby story, particularly not in its very generic sounding title.

However the lead character Terry Gionoffrio did appear, briefly, in the Rosemary’s Baby novel and film. This film is that woman’s backstory. (I won’t go into details as to how she fits into the original storyline, because that could be considered a bit of a spoiler for Apartment 7A.)

The basics of horror cinema have certainly changed a whole hell of a lot since Rosemary was released in 1968, and interestingly Apartment 7A sort of settles into the old-fashioned, more measured, spooky vibe of its predecessor. Which makes the film rather interesting, if occasionally a bit slow-paced for modern audiences.

We meet Terry (Julia Garner) as an aspiring Broadway dancer. During a performance, she badly injures her foot, leading her to have to stop her promising career for a period of months. (The accident becomes so well known that on Broadway she is broadly referred to as “the girl who fell.”) She tries to hurry herself back to work before she is ready by using painkillers, eventually becoming addicted to the pills.

After a particularly humiliating audition, Terry follows the producer Alan Marchand (Jim Sturgess) to his home at the Bramford. When she is unable to get through to him, she passes out due to her drug use. She is brought in the building by a sweet-seeming older couple named Roman and Minnie Castavet (Kevin McNally and Dianne Wiest), who quickly offer to put Terry up in an apartment that they own. Of course, if you have seen Rosemary’s Baby, you know that the Castavets have ulterior motives. (Wiest, in particular, does a stunning job of recreating the character as played by Ruth Gordon in the original. Close your eyes and you may think it was the same actress.)

In fact, their plans for Terry are very similar to their later plans with Rosemary. In fact, according to this storyline, the satanist residents of the Bramford have tried similar acts several times with multiple women.

None of it is completely surprising – if you are familiar with the original story, you have a pretty good idea how it will all end – but Apartment 7A is still an interesting chapter of the tale.

And here's the Reboot version of Rosemary!! Unfortunately no Sage for the puppet versions, but there is a Sage for the human ones! :D I'll show you guys soon ;3

But yeah, here's the gorl!! A shorty lil rabbit full of energy, sass, and focus, with the mind and mouth of a steel trap! She very much plays on the "#girlboss" vibes of the early 2000s, but I think she pulls it off -w- Also! She's a fashion designer in this AU! She mostly started out just making clothes for herself (cause she smol lmao its either make clothes or scour the toddlers' section XD) but gradually grew to making all sorts of clothing for all sorts of puppets! Julie and Frank would probably be the two who use her services most, I think -- Julie just cause the two of them will make the most outlandish, awesome outfits known to puppetkind, and Frank because Rosie can help them design some really nice androgynous outfits that they like -w- Also maybe Sally, for costumes.

I've got a bunch more doodles for this that I'm working on, I'll be sharing them soon! So keep an eye out ;3

Okay so let me tell you how this came to be

I drew this on my organic chemistry lecture, on the pdf file, using tools that are not made for art, on one single layer, using whatever small space I had between paragraphs, all the while the whole thing would crash like a hundred times, erasing whatever little progress I made, so I had to keep saving the file over and over again after every few lines, sometimes after every line, but the thing is, saving the file usually lead to the file crashing too and losing that small progress over again

What am I trying to say? I’ve don’t the bow tie like 15 times, the eyes 9, the shirt over 20 times, and the hair like only 6 or 7 times thankfully, and the lineart of various thing of the drawing too many times to count

The only reason I didn’t stop is cause I really liked the coloring of the eyes and hair, especially the eyes, they are very pretty and tumblr quality isn’t giving it the justice it deserves lol

I firmly believe that nothing starting at the epilogues should be taken to be a part of the actual comic. It's almost like a reboot except instead of retelling the story it's just playing wish fulfillment with a budget instead of free time and Ao3.

Whoever wants June Egbert to exist, that's fine. It doesn't fix or change the character in any meaningful way. Homestuck ended on a decent note of getting the reward. That's where canon storytelling should end.

I don't think we really need this endless drama over the void when no one can even agree on what race the kids are let alone height and weight. It's just another pointless budget enhanced plot point that doesn't fit James' ability to write fuck all.

Homestuck was wild and chaotic but at the end of it all you could at least see a 'point' being growing up is hard and no one understands. And I'd say that being an adult is hard still, but that doesn't fit the overarching narrative of HS^2 not unless everyone else is going to go along with figuring their own shit out as well like cheating on your wife or being a dead body/plot device/under discussed sexual trauma for having your bits changed out for a dog dick. (I mean, we know Roach will keep using Jade as a punching bag and no one will stop to think about how awful that choice was especially with June 'always being end goal' you can't just write a trans character and ignore the fact you gender fucked a 13 year old against her will.)

Yeah. Just let everyone have their own interpretation of the ending. If they certain couples they prefer over popular fanon, that's fine. If someone likes John as John Egbert as a male, that's fine too. If someone likes trolls that were dead now brought back to life at the end, that's fine too. No need to harass anyone who prefers JohnRose over Roxygen or Rosemary. Don't bitch at others who draw them as white as they appear in the comic. And of course, if someone likes some questionable ship, that's fine too. Everybody has to mind their own business. And if they don't like it, they can just ignore and move on. The Block Button is there for a damn reason.

Heads Up Seven Up Tag

My next thing I'm working on is about a trans woman in university who gets recruited to be a magical girl, to her chagrin. She and her new friends lead lives increasingly consumed by their responsibilities and powers. Half of them have crushes and/or long standing grudges towards the other half.

It goes on like that for a good long while. Her chemistry notes are beyond saving, what little she has left of them, and some of her sketch ideas for paintings are gone. It serves her right for using loose-leaf paper, but like…

2. How could anyone predict that a magical girl dressed like a knight is going to throw your desk at her nemesis who dresses like a mad scientist? There’s no insurance plan for that! There’s no way to predict or plan for that sort of thing! Who could blame Susie?

3. The source in question is a girl, about Rosemary’s age. She’s taller than Rosemary, which makes her quite tall indeed, and is wearing a pair of magenta jorts and a T-shirt with the cover art of a Carly Rae Jepson album on it (Emotion Side B, apparently). She’s wearing sunglasses, even though it’s 3:50 PM in September in a building with no electricity, and she’s wearing a million sparkly bracelets on her arms.

4. “Uh…” Rosemary says. For some reason, the part of her brain that does stuff like ‘speech’ and ‘coherent language’ might as well be a lump of saltwater taffy. All she can do is take in this woman and try to reboot the parts of her mind that are melted together.

5. Marie nods. The Carly Rae Jepsen shirt wrinkles in a way that makes it look like the pop singer is nodding, too.

6. Before she can register what’s happening, she’s got Marie in her arms, the back of her t-shirt making contact with Rosemary’s overalls.

7. “There was a magical girl fight. Iron and Uranium. Our tutoring session was cut short.”

“Yeah, it was real fucking annoying,” Susie adds.
