Thank you so much for asking! If you cannot contribute financially right now, we completely understand! There are still several ways you can support us. 1) Show us to your friends/mutuals/VN groups. Sharing our info and letting more people know about us allows us to reach bigger audiences when our release comes out. 2) Recommend us to your favorite streamers that play visual novels and dating sims! We've announced we are offering steam keys for our release to people who stream our demo (new or old) and are willing to stream either Shae or Maeve's Part 1 within 3 weeks of release. This allows people to find our direct social media and the information therein. 4) Participate in public fandom (fan art, fancams, fan fics, theory posting, live reactions, general discussion, etc.) on social media (Tumblr, Twitter, TikTok, IG, etc.) whenever possible. In recent years, fandom has largely moved from public to private spaces, which unfortunately means that smaller content creators have a harder time reaching people. Public fandom, in an odd way, is a kind of organic advertising! Also, people just generally like being involved in communities! There's nothing worse than getting obsessed with a New Thing, and having nobody to talk to about it. Rome isn't built in a day, though - our public fandom presence on Tumblr (for example) is small, but not non-existent! Lots of fanwork posts are in the "ndm" tag, so browsing/adding to that tag is a bigger help than some folks realize! 5) Wishlist us on Steam! Wishlisting us tell Steam to recommend us to other people who like the same stuff as you. Wishlisting is a huge boon to indie devs. As you can see, the main thread throughout is helping us expand our reach!

COMPREHENSIVE POINTS GUIDE:

Firstly, please use the #Cabin [number] OR #Cabin [name] for any AU’s included in posts for the convenience of us staff who need to count points!! If you do not tag all included AU’s cabins, we will not count it for points (it would just be to hard for us to go and find)

If your posted art/writing/ect is about the event (which is currently campfire stories) in any way, it will earn you one point. You do not need to crossover with anyone to earn a point.

If you do crossover with someone from your cabin and they are NOT the representative, it will still only count for one point. However, if you crossover with someone from another cabin then their cabin will also get one point (be sure to tag their cabin as well or NO points will be given to either cabin!).

Representatives? How do they work?

There will be a different theme every two weeks and each theme will get a different representative allowing every person a time to shine. During that time, posting any art/writing/ect that includes that representative AU will be worth one extra point. If you crossover with a representative from another AU’s Cabin BOTH cabins will gain two points.

What is a representative's job?

As a representative, the main thing you need to do is make sure people know your AU so that way they can post about it. You do not need to do much more then that if you do not want to, however a small introduction to the event will help so people can build their crossovers around it!

How do reblogs work with points?

If you add content with your reblog and remember to # the correct cabins, it will also count as a separate post and will receive points. However, if people start splitting hairs and posting one/two sentence “additions” or making a comic and splitting it up into reblogs to gain more points, we will have to edit the way we count these. As a general rule of thumb for writing, if the post is at least two-three paragraphs it should be okay.

Do role plays count for points?

Make sure you get permission to post your RP from all people involved, then make a post on tumblr. RPing is a form of writing, so I do not see why this wouldn’t count for points! Just make sure you are following all other rules.

What if an AU is in my art/writing but only BRIEFLY mentioned/in the background:

Please tag their cabin as well, even small mentions can mean a lot to people (especially smaller creators). This will count as a point.

What if I have a BIG crossover with a LOT of cabins?

Tag every cabin involved, and every cabin in the crossover will get points!

What if I have already made a campfire event post and they did not follow these rules?

The mod team would greatly appreciate it if you went back and added the proper tags, but if you do not, that is okay too. All campfire posts before this post not following the # guidlines will still be counted.

I say this with all the kindness toward you in the world, but I do not like this at all. At all.

Not to be holier than thou but you should care. I mean they are human beings who are just asking to be paid a reasonable amount for their work. And tbh I'm not sure if a lot of people outside the US (even in the US and just aren't directly effected by it) understand exactly what's going on here. The truth is we're being driven to a fucking breaking point. The cost of everything, EVERYTHING, is going up all the time and we're not being paid enough to match it. These fat cat corporations and greedy fucking billionaires are quite literally making it so people can't afford food and rent. This strike, while its been a long time coming, is just a very visible and tangible example of something that's wrong across the board. These people are driving force behind a global money making industry and they even aren't getting paid enough for their work to live and eat. And that's the same work which we fanfic writers then use as inspiration to write our own fics for free in between working and struggling ourselves.

They'd not asking to become millionaires, they're just asking to be paid even remotely fairly. And they're being told no because a handful of people who are already richer than you or I will ever be say they simply can't afford it. Bullshit. It's all bullshit. It's just another excuse to keep workers impoverished and a slave to their job. It's yet another example of this country's elite taking advantage of the working persons labor.

And this is just a sidenote not even directly aimed at you anon, so don't take it personally because it's not, but I kindly want to nudge people to really evaluate the assumption that if this turns ugly and drags on forever and all tv and movies turn to shit, that they'll be able to just turn to fanfic. The problem there is every day more and more fanfic writers and artists stop creating because of how little support they get. I'm lucky because so many of you guys interact with me and I love it, I do and that's what keeps me going. But I'm also not blind to the fact that on a long ask/answer post I made, the accidental poll attached has 30+ votes, but only about 20 notes and not even 5 reblogs. Fanfic writers get burned out too. Especially when it feels like they're pumping out work and getting barely anything in return. Smaller creators especially, but even with bigger accounts there's only so much they can do.

So please, support those writers that are striking. Support your fanfic writers who use their work as a building block. Support your artists who take these concepts and then turn them into masterpieces. Because all of them are just people trying do what they love while still being able to feel valued for their time.

Ok so, I personally wouldn't mind if every 10th or 20th post on my dash isn't by someone I follow. However I don't want it to get Facebook or Instagram bad.

I'd also like a toggle that can remove specific posts I've already reacted to (like, comment, reblog, etc). By specific I mean if I like reblog A, the original and reblog B will still show up in my feed but not reblog A.

I'd also like the ability to toggle off my posts being in my feed i made them I don't need to see them again..

I know a lot of tumblr users are mad at this but tumblr IS a company and they do need to make money somehow. More people looking at more posts = more ads = more money.

And yeah if you want to follow meme accounts those are super easy to find. However on one of my other blogs which was a reptile blog I struggled finding people to follow. I had to scour through tags and posts to try and find new accounts, I looked at basically every account recommended to me. It was HARD to find reptile accounts I wanted to follow because I didn't want ANY reptile account. I don't want to see Bob keeping his snakes in tanks way too small for them on repticarpet with one hide and no cover. I don't want to follow an account on my reptile tumblr that posts about their snake every 20th post and other stuff the rest of the time (which you find a lot of those looking through tags). AND I was so sick of my account's super slow growth and tiny reach despite me taking several minutes with each post adding tags.

And before yall come at me, that account was made for education both for people who owned reptiles and those who didn't. The whole point of the account was to teach people. It's not teaching anyone if it's not even reaching anyone!!!!

That blog wasn't like this one that's full of ramblings and reblogs. I would spend like an hour writing and tagging a post for it to get like 3 likes if I was lucky. Even after making dozens of posts and being on the platform for awhile. I've been on Instagram for a much smaller amount of time, have maybe ~25 posts and have a much larger follower amount and engagement rate over there. I get instagram not being the same as tumblr. Trust me I do, and I do love tumblr. But in my experience tumblr is SHIT for creators as it doesn't push their work out to anyone. You know what gets recommended to me time and time again when I check out my for you? Memes, reblogs, rants, general blogging stuff. Art and other "creator" stuff is super rare!! And I follow artists.

I feel like on tumblr if you're a creative you grow at such a snail's pace even if you spend ages doing tags and make high quality stuff. Your only hope is to get a viral post or get picked up my a much more popular blog.

Tumblr is great for people wanting to goof off, rant or be silly not so much for creatives. I can guarantee you the ONLY reason I got any engagement at all on my reptile tumblr was because I stuffed my posts FULL of tags. Which I hate doing!!! But on this account I tag like every 40th post and even the untagged ones get engagement because people see them from my mutuals who reblog stuff.

The algorithmic feed idea sucks, we all agree there.

However if yall can't handle seeing a small amount of posts in your feed from tumblrs you don't follow so they can have a chance at growing that's on you.

Listen if they make it so like every 5th post isn't by someone who follows ill be yelling to staff about it just like you guys. However if they do go through with implementing it I might actually revive my reptile blog because it gives me some hope.

Do you think we can bring back ROTBTD in 2021?

(Oh wow I mulled over this ask for quite some time. I hope this is somewhat helpful!)

If by "bringing back" you mean restoring the crossover to something close to its former popularity, then no, I honestly don't think we can. I think more than just a fandom, part of what made RotBTD so well-known back then is because it got picked up as a tumblr trend, and trends move on. Not to mention with the lack of new source material, the possibility of coming up with inspirations for fanworks (something that creators need, and i feel like this is particularly harder for crossovers) as well as topics to talk about are pretty limited, so it's understandable that most people who participate decided to leave for good after having their share of fun. This is just the way things are.

On a brighter note, it's not like the fandom is actually dead, far from it. The fans are very much still around; there are those who never left (salute to you guys, seriously), those who return (like me!), and those who get into this old fandom late. Discussions are still happening. New fanworks are still being made; lots of it! And though the traffic might be slower, I think a lot of people would agree with me that there's been something like a fandom revival recently.

And this is just my personal opinion, but I do think that what we have right now is even better than what we had back then. The community is much more chill. There’s a deeper appreciation and understanding of the four franchises as well as the characters that the earlier fandom frankly lacked. People are respectful about shipping. I can go on.

However, I understand that it could still feel less lively than the RotBTD fandom that you remember and wish to bring back. And I’m afraid I only have one advice to assuage that: try to reach out and engage more with the current community. 

Look for people who like the same characters/ships/AUs that you like and follow them. Reblog fanarts that you like and maybe even tell the artist what you like about their work. Comment on fics you enjoyed and maybe share it with others that might appreciate it too. Send asks to folks whose headcanons you’d like to see more of. Maybe join one of the discord servers and hang out there. Or if you haven’t found a particular thing you’d like to see, make a new post and just talk about it! 

Like I said before, many of us are still around and kicking, and I think it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that everyone here is open to having another person to talk to about our interests. So if what you're looking for is a livelier experience, simply chat and interact with other fans! After all, having like-minded friends/acquaintances/mutuals of some kind helps a lot in making fannish experience more fulfilling.

oh and please don’t read this as an imperative to be sociable, but rather as an assurance that it's okay to be more present in the fandom space!! If the idea makes you uncomfortable, there’s always the option to use the anon feature or only pop into the fandom tag once in a while. Just do what feels right for you, and remember that just because it's a smaller fandom now doesn't mean you can't have fun.

(Also a little off-topic but i feel like we often forget just how big BIG rotbtd was. It was like a giant stone soup collaboration across all types of media: fanfic, fanart, fancomic, gifsets, edits, RP blogs, fan videos, fan songs, animation, cosplays, fanzines, etc. It felt like everyone was doing it and pitched in with something new or at least knew about it and passed it around. Of course it would feel a lot emptier when we're being compared to that.)

A lot of smaller blogs (and big ones too) will reach out to their followers due to the like to reblog ratio being so low. It’s been pretty bad lately. Now, when you have posts with less notes, it can be hard to see why it’s so important. Here’s an example of mine...

( now these don’t include comments ) As you can see, the reblogs compared to likes is still low, but it’s hard to see just how low. For a small piece like this, it may not seem significant. Though posts can reach over a thousand notes after months and months, it would be much easier if our content was reblogged in the first place. It can take months/years for pieces to gain attention and therefore, blogs themselves to grow.

Reblogging is so important on tumblr. First of all, it’s how are content gets noticed and spread. The tumblr algorithm doesn’t care about likes (though we as creators do). So to get noticed and to have our work seen more, reblogs are essential. We create content because we enjoy it, but if we didn’t want it to be shared then we wouldn’t post it.

Here’s another piece of mine that took 7 months to reach 1000 notes.

i hope this puts it more into perspective for you. I’m in no way complaining about the amount of notes on this post AT ALL. I’m incredibly grateful that it reached this high. But what i am trying to do is show you how bad the reblogs are on this site and how much easier it would have been, had there been more reblogs (even if the reblogs were 25% of the likes it would have helped a lot more. This is 9%) And as you can see, the likes compared to the reblogs is terrible.

For smaller blogs, reblogs are FAR more important than they are for bigger blogs. However, that doesn’t mean that just because a blog has grown in following, you shouldn’t reblog their content. Because ultimately, if that were the case, our following would mean nothing if no one interacted anymore. We’d still have lots of followers, but our content wouldn’t reach anywhere. So i’m not saying this isn’t important for bigger blogs too.

I’m grateful for every follower/comment/like/reblog that i have. But i just wanted to put this into perspective for you, and maybe, help you understand why they’re so important and how bad they are right now. Smaller blogs will have a smaller platform, but i hope this helps them and other bigger blogs. And i also hope this helps anyone who didn’t understand why they were so important to us before.

In conclusion, please reblog content that you enjoy. Whether it be gifs, fanart, or fanfiction etc, please, if you enjoyed it/liked it, give it a reblog. (even better would be telling us what you think but that’s another hurdle fjfjf)

oh my gosh this is such a lovely thing for you to ask and it really means a lot that you care about what i (and others) create that you want to help!! Also thank you for being patient and waiting for a reply - i wanted to wait until i was able to properly sit down and think about this one because theres a lot I could say. As it is this got kinda long and I really hope it makes sense. There’s probably more I could say but this gets at the main bits I think. 

The TL;DR of it is that what you’re already doing is absolutely amazing but the biggest thing that will help creators is sharing their work! 

And the rest of my thoughts are under the cut

So firstly, I just reblogged this post which talks about lurkers and I do agree with it to an extent! It isn’t always easy to comment or interact with someone’s post and like I love everyone who takes the time to click on anything I’ve written, even if they don’t tell me they clicked on it. Sometimes as a creator you can get caught up in how many notes your posts get but it’s important to remember that notes aren’t really That important. They’re a good way of measuring interest but theres probably people interested that you can’t see and that’s okay! So what you’re already doing is really so much more than I could ever ask for!! 

But. I think it is also equally true that fandom content creators are struggling to be seen at the moment, especially regarding fics and especially in a fandom like the queen/borhap one which isn’t as big as it was 2 years ago after the movie was released. We are a relatively small fandom!! Certainly smaller than when I first joined. And the thing is, creators aren’t obligated to make things. They make things because they want to and they love it but it can be incredibly discouraging when it feels like no one cares. I write for you guys as much as I write for myself. If I just wrote for myself I wouldn’t bother editing and positing things, I’d just store them on my computer or maybe turn them into self published novels or something idk. And so I think supporting content creators (of all sorts, but im obviously speaking from a fic writer point of view) is incredibly important to keep this fandom going.

I think the biggest thing creators on tumblr struggle with is being seen. So the best way to help creators is to share their stuff! Likes are great for letting the OP know that you saw their stuff and liked it (or saved it for later), comments and requests and messages and all that are great for letting a creator know that you Enjoy what they make and want to see more of it or that you want to be friends with them and believe me i fucking adore getting asks and replies! It really makes my day when someone tells me they’re excited for something I’m working on or that they had an idea and think i’d do it justice (as long as they’re polite and not demanding about it) or just that they read something I wrote and it made them smile! But if we’re talking about helping content creators then there is one thing that helps above everythign else and that is sharing their work. Reblog it or link friends to it or whatever, just share it.

The tagging system on this website is finicky at best and that makes it difficult to get your fic seen by people who don’t follow you. The last two fics I posted didn’t show up in the tags i use and I cannot for the life of me work out why. I checked for ~inappropriate language~ in the tags and there was none, i didn’t link to outside websites, i did everything the exact same way as normal and it still didn’t work. Which means that I’m relying on the people that follow me and see the fic to pass it on to others. Not to brag but I have roughly 1700 followers (give or take some inactive/spam blogs). If every single one of them reblogged it and got 1 of their followers to see it then it would have reached 3400 people, or twice as many. Obviously that isn’t going to happen and it’s unrealistic to expect that. But by sharing a fic with one person you make a big difference! It means that one extra person saw it and had a chance to respond to it!

Now obviously not everyone feels comfortable reblogging fanfics, especially smutty rpf fanfics, on their main blog and thats totally fine! But if you make friends in the fandom and can say “hey did you see illfoandillfie’s latest fic” and link them then that’s really great! Or start an anonymous sideblog that you use solely for sharing fics you read! That’s how I started this blog! I’d been on tumblr for literally 10 years and I felt like my followers wouldn’t appreciate being inundated with rpf smut (especially when people i was friendly with were kinda anti rpf fics) so I started a sideblog to reblog fics I liked and post a few of my own! 

From your message it sounds like you’re already doing a lot to try and help me as a creator and that is incredible! Don’t feel you have to do anything more than what you’re comfortable with. And I do want to acknowledge that, while this fandom has shrunk a bit, I do feel like it’s more interactive than before! My fics don’t get quite as many notes as they used to but I feel like more people comment on them and give me feedback and that is so unbelievably valuable!! I can’t stress how important every little thing is, anything that can let creators know you see them and see the time and effort they’re putting in.

Buckle Up for some Thoughts!

I have a lot of thoughts on the “there are no good fics anymore!” anons that keep popping up. 

This obviously isn’t a new take, and obviously, as a writer I am biased, but my knee jerk reaction is THERE ARE SO MANY NEW AMAZING FICS! If you’re out there feeling like there are no good fics, are you reading new authors? Are you taking chances? You might need to close a few tabs if they aren’t all for you--they won’t be!--but I bet there are some gems if you just put in a little effort to find them!

I also really wish that these asks were more specific. What do you mean there aren’t any new good fics? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? If you’re pining after innocent baby boyfriends... then... there might be few of those because as the guys mature the fics that surround them also are naturally going to mature? Louis is 28! A fully grown human man who has lived through some stuff, and I think that the current fic climate reflects that--which makes sense! So, if you’re out there moaning that there isn’t anything good, it’d actually be super helpful to think about what exactly you’re not finding. Because then:

You can send asks to authors asking for that sort of thing! Like, I know in the past I’ve gotten prompts sent to me and they don’t always resonate with what exactly I want to write, so then I post them and hopefully someone else will see and write it! I know lots of people send @kingsofeverything prompts when they see buttholes or small penis ideas (LMAO FOREVER) since that’s her brand, but with a lot of authors sometimes all it takes is a spark of inspiration to do something new (or old, trope-wise, if that’s what you’re looking for). 

Reblogging fic recs! I know some fic recs have a ton of likes (there are reasons for this! I personally use likes as a bookmarking system!) and less reblogs but if you’re looking for something specific, support fic reccers and ask for specific recs! 

(There is probably a whole other conversation to be had about answering anons with fic recs and then readers only reccing old fics, but I don’t have the bandwidth to get into that at the moment.)

(Ditto a conversation about readers bemoaning the lack of smut. What kind of smut do you want to read????)

Also this probably ties into a bigger conversation about the fractured fandom, about update accounts only reblogging some certain authors because of fandom drama, about the fandom in general being smaller and fics getting less hits, about witchhunts and pile-ons that stress out content creators, about readers being so vocal about what they don’t like instead of amplifying what they do like, etc etc etc which I think means that the channels in which to get new fics (or old fics that have been looked over BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH CONTENT IN THIS FANDOM! WE ARE BLESSED!) into the hands of readers who don’t want to put forth effort into sorting through ao3 are also blocked. 

And finally, for now, maybe, to reiterate a point that has been made many times, if you want content creators to stick around, then ideally readers will create a positive environment for them to thrive in. There’s nothing more disheartening as someone who is writing to hear ‘there’s nothing good’ that’s so general and such a bummer! Reblog fic posts! Leave kudos and comments! Interact with writers on tumblr! or twitter! Go re-read a fav of yours and tell the author! As a reader, I also have favs that I adore and that I wish there were more of, but instead of complaining I reread and I think about replicating it in my own work, and I try to keep things happy and wonderful so that those authors that I adore stick around for many more years! 

Also! Side note that I know is a hard sell... I know that readers like specific things, Larry, for instance, BUT there are so so so many rare pair fics in this fandom and I cannot suggest highly enough stepping outside of the bubble of what you like and trying something new because it might open up a whole new avenue of fics to explore while still participating in the greater 1D fandom. 

I think it’s a complicated situation! I think we’re likely never going to get back to the heyday when all those classic fics were written because the fandom is smaller and people keep leaving and then the mood droops and then less people want to write because it’s a bummer situation and then there’s more moaning and it could easily turn into a downward spiral. BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OF US OUT THERE STILL CREATING. Let’s try to turn this boat around! Let’s treat people with kindness! Let’s lift people up! Let’s invite in new writers! Let’s create a heyday revival!

I know I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I’d queued up a load of stuff but there was very little my hero academia in there, well here’s where that queue has finally caught up to real time (I had a loooong queue)

but I mean, not to get into any fandom discourse or be negative about the fandom, but I think it’s actually come at the right time. It’s a good idea for me right now to feel a little a more distant from the toxicity I’ve seen in there recently ;;

I’ve been super stressed the last few months, what with working through the pandemic, trying to buy a property, fighting with my health anxieties (and a couple of infections) (2020 has not been a good year so far tbh) and being in such a crazy large fandom has been bad for me at times I feel.

My creativity has really suffered, like a lot of other content creators. But I think there’s a lot of complicated feelings surrounding never feeling like I’m putting out content that’s ‘good enough’ for such a big fandom?? I don’t know, it’s weird. I just know that I often felt like my stories needed to be a certain kind of quality or I got disappointed in myself. I think maybe I was worried that people were expecting a certain level of content from me or something?? Like I was climbing a rope but there was no end to it and my hands are getting sore but I have to keep climbing and everyone around me is climbing too but they want to climb higher and faster than each other and I’m just tired and want to rest but I’m worried I’ll just fall straight off the rope if I do. I’m not making sense but it’s really hard to put into words I guess.

Either way, I’ve been having these kinds of negative feelings about creating content recently for that fandom, and I know I just need to write more for myself again.

The IT fandom’s not perfect (what fandom is!??) but I like the closer knit feel to it. And everyone I’ve met in there so far has been so supportive. I feel a huge amount of freedom to experiment with my writing style too, which is nice and freeing. I guess that comes with being in a fandom where the source material is a book, a mini series and two films. It’s all over so there’s no continuing narrative and everyone who isn’t really invested has already dropped out. Plus you get to pick and choose elements from all three and just pick what you like and combine it to get the canon/fanon that you like (although I wish people would stop saying you can’t do that. you absolutely can)

Instagram needs to stop being toxic in general too - it’s literally a platform full of people calling each other out over stuff that I’m like guys, just, let it be.

I literally saw a post on instagram saying that adults are too old for anime, and should watch media with characters more their own age. Which made me absolutely lose it because who do they think writes, animates and voices the anime they watch?? I didn’t realise media had age limits now, guess I need to throw out all my Disney movies and Ghibli movies because the average age range of the characters in them is too low for me. 

ANYWAY (gosh sorry I really went off in this post) loving the IT fandom. Very fun. Very supportive. Smaller. Content creators are so talented they blow my mind.

I have nothing against the bnha fandom, and I’m still going to finish my current My Hero Academia fics at some point, but sometimes you just know that it’s time to take a step back. I still love some of the characters, their designs and the dynamics of them, so I’ll be reblogging some content from time to time, plus I still have some friends in the fandom and I will support them no matter what.

Genuinely wondering. Why do you think using the name lady noir(e) is rude to the Fandom? I know you're kind of over this subject so you don't have to answer

So, and I forgot to mention it today because I didn’t scroll through for posts to reblog (whoops), but as of today we’ve had the show for 4 whole years! 4 years of Ladybug and Chat Noir saving the day. (Approximately a little less time for the fandom to take hold, but I’ll say about October 2015 with the French premiere was when the fandom really got going.) 

Obviously the romance is a major focus of the show, so tumblr immediately had to get going with the tags. People quickly realized that the love square had different dynamics on each side, and came up with something for each part. Some pieces took time to workshop; during the early fandom I heard “Adrienbug” or “Chatmari,” and I think to this day we’re not completely sure what we prefer with “Adrienette.”

But if there was one ship name we nailed, it was “Ladynoir.” Of the four, this could easily be seen as the “main” ship of the show, as it is first and foremost a superhero show (so they’re always transformed at some point) and even at the beginning we saw their cute banter. I considered it so dominant, in fact, that my original tag for shippy content was just “ladynoir” even when I just meant any aspect of the love square. (A tag I gave up on when, yknow, I realized that the whole show was one big romance)

So in interacting with the fandom all these years, the staff knew well that we called one of the ships “Ladynoir.” Heck, they’ve been known to tease us on Twitter with “you guys will be happy with the Adrienette in this episode :)”, etc. This isn’t a fandom secret or something. 

Now, I don’t know how long ZAG has been planning a kwami swap. It’s been a popular fan idea about as long as the show’s been on, certainly it had also been tossed around the writers room. But I don’t think they could have feasibly designed them before October 2015. 

Even if they had? There would be 4 years before the episode actually hit screens. All the time that it takes to make an episode, from writing room floor to animation to dubbing, takes months. On a smaller time frame, say they designed Lady Noire and Mister Bug when they first started writing season 3, and sent out the doll designs immediately so the merch could get a head start; there were months between then and the script getting sent in for animation. Anybody with even a little fandom exposure could’ve said “yeah what if we tried a different name?” and workshopped it a bit before the lip flap animations were locked in. 

They shouldn’t lock in bad ideas before sending them to animators, and in fact, we know they don’t: Nora was named “Nancy” in her first sketches, Queen Bee’s leaked design had a purse instead of the top, and don’t forget Zag leaked the season 2 powerups as a big reveal for the season… and it turned out they’d tossed the pearl idea and went with the potions. Things can and should change to make sure only the best ideas go in the episodes. 

But all of that means that, way back when we first found out about the swap names, it was likely early enough that they hadn’t even gotten to animating Reflekdoll. (The fact that we’re not getting this episode until this week, despite having it in production for about a year, means they had plenty of time to change.) 

Now, after typing and researching all of this, I’ve come to a realization: maybe ZAG did it instead as an homage to the ship name. The writers can definitely see our fandom, and the idea that they actually saw something from us and wanted to shout it out is kind of flattering. We can ask Thomas more about this in a couple days after the episode has aired. 

Why I don’t want her to be Lady Noire? Because having a character take the exact name of a ship only serves to screw up tags. Fans group and find fanworks by ship name tags, and having something completely different come in and take the tag only confuses everyone. I mean, cartoon-makers are very familiar with the phenomenon: they have to strive to give characters and shows unique names so they stand out among other properties. It’s one of the reasons we get ‘Cat Noir’ instead of just ‘Black Cat.’ And for some of the creators being so active in the fandom, they know we love our tags and ship names. They should know better than to pick something so now we have confusion between the Ladynoir ship and Marinette with the black cat. 

Anyway. They’ve had a lot of time for the backlash to set in, so maybe for the finalized ep they did go with different names. Heck, maybe this is why the ep took so long to make and kept getting pushed back – like I know there are some new models here, but not that many more than a typical new ep, right? Especially since Reflekta’s power is legit just “reuse Reflekta’s model.” Maybe, just maybe, renaming the hero(es) meant they had to go back and get the animators to change every instance that they mentioned the names (probably a good few times in the ep). Super unlikely but, as always, I can dream.

7. Bittersweet

Tired to the bone but unable to sit still. Ever since Clint told you last night that Pepper Potts-slash-Stark would be visiting today, you haven’t been able to relax let alone sleep. Throughout the night, you’d been tossing and turning along with the millions thought buzzing around in your brain like a swarm of pesky flies. Why’s she coming? You had imagined a simple, official letter from some office or maybe a phone call from a lawyer. Maybe.

Now the woman is on the way to the Barton family’s farm, and you’ve figuratively worn through the soles of the boots from all the pacing. First in the little bedroom, then through the entire house before you escaped to the barn.

Fingers trace lines in the thick layer of dust of Deere’s grooves, mixing with the residue of oil trapped in your finger whirls – no amount of scrubbing is enough, but Laura doesn’t seem to mind. Passing by the front, one of the ancient headlights is still sitting crooked after you changed the bulb, and your hands automatically busy themselves with the little task still left before the M-model would be presentable after too many years of misuse. It feels good to fix the tractor, to give it a chance to do what it’s made for instead of sitting useless, cooped up in some dusty place without a purpose. Machines need something to do…just like humans.

It’s not long before your attention is fully focused on the wiring for the electrical starting, mind at ease as it has tuned in to the ideas of its creators from the late 40’ies. There’s a clear logic to their work which you now admire, trying to respect it as you peel away the old copper with fabric wrapping so stiff it might actually break. There might be a thin layer of aluminum in between but honestly, you’re not sure, and you become enthralled with the task of figuring out the system to the point that you don’t hear the barn door opening or the muted sound of high heels treading easily across the uneven floor.

“Miss [Y/L/N],” a female voice suddenly interrupts your work, clear and demanding, “can I have a word with you?”

Here we go. You manage to sneak a glance down yourself, grimacing at the dirt already adorning your sweater and jeans – not to mention your hands even after you wipe them in an old cloth – before you turn to stand face to face with Tony Starks widow. Her entire posture screams self-esteem. This is a woman, who has worked hard and knows exactly what sort of respect she deserves, someone stubborn enough to deal with NY’s former most notorious playboy. Even with dark circles around the eyes and sunken cheeks, Virginia Pepper Potts is a force of nature.

Silence stretches until it becomes unbearable, making you want to flee rather than do as you do: “Hi there, Mrs…Stark?”

“I…I kept my maiden name…” she trails off, gaze dancing between your dirty hands and your face.

You know she’s trying to find the similarities. Damn it, you’ve spent hours in front of mirrors doing the same, suddenly recognizing where you got your eyes from or the lopsided smile when something quietly amuses you.

“So…erm…I didn’t expect…” The words just don’t want to cooperate. “What can I do?”

“Right.” The pale woman manages to shake herself out of the stupor. “I understand you’ve not wanted to claim any inheritance now that…after…” Tears pool in her eyes regardless of the furious blinking, but Potts manages to hold them back. “I’ve been told you merely wanted to…see if it was right?”

Lamest reason ever, typical me. “I gueeess that’s the best way to put it,” you admit, “little too late but…” Flailing your arms, in the hopes the broken sentence makes sense.

“And what do you think?”

“Dunno…might just be ‘cause I’m looking for any resemblance and the wake…there was a lake in between…”

“But…”

There’s nothing accusatory about the question. In fact, it almost sounds kind as if she might care about your feelings. Why should she? An adult appears out of the blue, claiming to be the dead husband’s kid – it isn’t exactly something that people would want to deal with, she has every right to be on guard. But I just wanted to know….want to know if it’s true. Not to take anything from her or the daughter, Morgan, just to find some peace. Sneaking in on the draught is a chilled sense of righteousness, screaming at you that wanting to figure out your past isn’t a crime. With no way of moving forward it had made sense to look back, to search for some anchor to steady yourself by while the maelstrom of insecurity keeps trying to pull you in and drown you.

“Look,” you begin authoritatively, “I get I could’ve gone ‘bout this a million other ways if I’d had the right support or whatever, but I didn’t trespass…didn’t intend to interfere.” A delicate reddish eyebrow raises slowly but doesn’t deter you. “So it was foolish to turn up ‘cause what I needed to know wouldn’t be obvious even then, but it’s the closest I could get to anything…maybe feel something? I dunno how I thought I’d get the answers I needed. Need. Perhaps I’d’ve walked away without being any wiser if I hadn’t seen his…your daughter. Morgan.” Now both eyebrows have reached the hairline and the sharp eyes could freeze you on the spot. With a hammering heart, you try to explain: “You’ve got the files. You’ve seen the baby pictures of me. You know what I mean.”

For a few treacherous seconds, it’s as if Pepper Potts might end you then and there. But her entire demeanour changes, crumbles in on itself with a sigh as she sits down on an upturned barrel nearby. The barn creaks a bit as it settles under the weight of the snow. A few mice run through a sprinkle of blown away leaves or straw in a corner, but you can’t see them when you look. You’re still wringing the oily cloth between your fingers. Then you hear the sniffle, forcing you to look at the woman holding the secret of your past.

“Morgan…you…” Pepper hiccups into a neat handkerchief, “you look like T-Tony…a lot. But but you even s-sound like and to see you-u working on…”

A vague gesture towards the tractor behind you somehow manages to encompass everything from oil, tools, no, the whole concept of tinkering with machines lies within the unspoken words and hits you harder than expected because now you realize that you might have inherited more than Tony Stark’s looks. What else? Truth is, though, regardless which traits are similar…you will never get to see for yourself: the guy’s dead, apparently leaving two kids behind and a widow to try to deal with it all. What a jerk.

A tiny, broken laugh escapes Pepper. “I know that look too…you’re fee-eeling oh so righteous about something, not just for yourself. If you got the chance, like Tony, you’d try to find some way to fix it for everyone.”

“I don–“

“It’s okay, [Y/N].” Your name sounds oddly easy on her lips. Perhaps she notices too because she blushes. “Not everything can be…fixed…not without losing something else.”

There is no need to spell it out. Tony Stark helped sort the biggest mess in Earth’s history by not just undoing the Snappening but by ending the purple space-grape called Thanos. The bill for a repair like that is massive. The news of course are focused on the grander issues from the fall out such as the millions of homeless people and the food shortage now that there’s double the mouths to feed. But on a smaller scale people are still reeling from the shock, some mourn those that will never return. Tony Stark. Natasha Romanoff. There are more. Bright memories burning holes in the hearts of loved ones sitting behind.

What if they could be brought back too? If Clint could have his best friend again, or Morgan could have her dad? If I could…?

“Don’t start down that rabbit hole.” Pepper is somehow right before you, hands reaching for you shoulders slowly as if afraid you might not want to be touched, that you will run off. “It never ends. There’s no peace if you start.” The touch is light while the words are heavy.

Teeth dig sharply into the inside of your cheek before you can talk. “What…what should I do?” I’m not gonna cry now!

“Up to you…but maybe you’ll consider coming for a visit to begin with?”

By the time Clint comes over to fetch you for dinner, Pepper Potts has been gone for hours and the tractor’s old wiring is lying in a bundle on the work bench ready to be stripped and rewrapped after the rest of the repairs are sorted.

“Hm…guess it’s really happening,” the Avenger grumbles kindly, “the old machine’s gonna run.”

“It’s gonna take some more work, but yeah,” you smile even if only the engine can see it.

also imma keep it real with y’all- i appreciate those who like my meme doodles and stuff but ??? the fact that i spent literally less than 5 minutes on that angus mcdonald drawing and it’s gotten 500 notes OVERNIGHT whereas art that i’ve spent hours on gets less or mixed/fluctuating responses is kinda messed up- like?? whats the deal w that smh

anyways, pls support artists - especially smaller artists!!! like seriously- im not trying to whine or anything bc i do appreciate y’all and all the love you guys have shown me but??? if a simple doodle like that can get 500+ notes, a drawing that someone poured their heart and dedication into for HOURS should NOT have to be struggling to get 10 notes

and while im at it, pls reblog art! likes are good, but if you can, support the creator! and if you enjoy someone’s art, tell them! i swear, it will make their frickin’ DAY. maybe even week. year. idk!! regardless, it will definitely make them happy to hear that someone enjoys what they’re doing. it’s encouraging! 

but hey, im just rambling - it’s your blog and y’all can do whatever but like?? it means a lot to artists to see their art being recognized and its discouraging when their larger projects are disregarded and ignored in place of a meme that took .06859 seconds to draw. 

when i was starting off, i’d go off my shit when i reached a milestone of 10 notes and here i am, with an overwhelmingly loving community that i truly am warmed by! and i wouldn’t have gotten here without y’all’s support! but anyways if you’re a smaller artist and ur reading this, pls hmu and ill check out ur blog bc y’all deserve so much more js

Okay so, there isn’t a huge amount of shadowhunters episodes left before it ends I’m gonna bring something up now I’ve been thinking about. Realistically when shadowhunters ends, a lot of the community will just drop. Over time a lot less content will be made. I mean hell even in the hiatus it got to points where I was actively looking for new SH stuff to post bc pretty much nothing showed up on the tag. A lot of the bigger content creators will lessen their involvement or move onto something else entirely. It’s gonna get quieter. 

And realistically, I’m not going to be here posting SH for the rest of my life. It’s been a joy to write those weird little chat posts each day and throw something out into the fandom to see if anyone else likes it. I’m not leaving! But I am asking if you have any ideas what you want me to do next. In all options I’ll still be reblogging SH, still making posts occasionally (though eventually I’ll stop doing it daily and lay off a bit, they’ll still appear sometimes). I enjoy being on tumblr BUT a lot of what keeps me here is activity, if I just kept going SH I can guarantee you I’d reach a stopping point where I got bored and never came back. I’m sure I’ll get bored of tumblr one day but we’re not there yet SO:

a) I make this into a multifandom account, spread my branches, reach into other fandoms as well. I promise I’ll start a tagging system so you can always just filter out what you don’t want to see. To give you an idea I’m a big MCU nerd (like it’d probably be a flood there), doctor who, brooklyn nine nine, lucifer and i have lots of other little interests like BBC Class or DGHDA or Sherlock or maybe even some SPN though I’ll admit to not keeping up with the show anymore. Other movies I see, new shows I start (my parents and I are looking at watching Good Omens together when it starts for example). a lot of fandoms aren’t coming to mind rn but you know, those are an idea.

b) I make this into just a huge mess of an account with EVERYTHING sdfjhsdf fandoms, memes, funny shit I see, shit I see that makes me cry, amazing photography, some quote I like, animals, some ungodly post that makes me want to die, LGBT+ stuff (cause ya know i’m gay), ESSENTIALLY EVERYTHING THAT CROSSES MY DASH COULD END UP HERE. Basically option a) but more and without limits.

c) I leave this account be and start a new account, let y’all know and anyone that wants to follow me over there can, maybe cause you like me or maybe cause you’re interested in what the new account will have (I doubt it’ll be a specific account like specifically doctor who stuff, it’ll be either option a or option b, just in a new place). I already have a side blog that’s kind of a mess of stuff I wanted to reblog but didn’t put on here, though there is admittedly not much bc lord knows I’m too lazy to change it so it reblogs to that account not my main one. This is just an option if anyone had an attachment to my SH stuff and wanted it to be left on it’s own so they could scroll back through whenever they wanted (or another reason but that seems like the main one)

d) suggestions?

At the end of the day it is my account and I can do whatever I want with it but I’ve got a few of you following me now and I appreciate y’all sticking around, I’d like to know what you’d like to see me do, maybe have you stick around a bit longer. I don’t imagine I’ll get a huge response to this post so it’s not like the majority option will win (unless like 10 people reply and you all say [this letter] then ok majority probably wins), more like I’ll be taking into account a way you’d still enjoy this account despite it not being the SH focused account it has been for idk the past 2 years or something.

I love being able to talk to you guys, to interact and to have you supporting me no matter what I post (yeah i’m talking about you few that I see liking every single post). It’s like a smaller community that I love. The change in the account will most likely change that but so would SH ending so you know, I’m just controlling that change to a degree.

Anyway I’ll probably reblog this a few times over the next few weeks at different times and on different days just to see if I can pick up some responses from people but I promise to try not to be annoying about it. Lemme know an option or your thoughts however you want, replying to this, send an ask (anon if you want), message me, idk figure out where i live and send a letter if ur a snail mail kind of person (pls don’t do that), whatever works for you.  BUT ALSO, NOTHING WILL BE CHANGING U N T I L SHADOWHUNTERS ENDS, NO SOONER. Kindchen’s Art Summary - 2018 edition!

2018 was a weird year! I drew a lot more, but focussed on smaller pieces. I tried to do more skecthes, improve anatomy/posing/faces and just didn’t pour as much of my ressources into big, elaborate drawings. I also had a lot on my plate this year - BBB took a lot of my time, and I am also still job hunting (wish me luck please!) which is causing a great deal of stress and anxiety. Anyways, on with the summary!

January Church fanart - MANIA came out, everyone! Which means, Church came out. And Catholic me couldn’t resist drawing some angsty religious-themed art. Especially since @sn1tchesandtalkers and I were still writing IHJF!

February Angel Pete - I drew a lot of him this year, but this one remains my favorite. Yeah yeah, I posted it in March, but c’mon. February was still angel!Pete month.

March I finished “I’ve Changed My Plea To Guilty”, my first multi-chaptered fic (not counting IHFJ, for which I had a lovely co-writer) and I was just so proud of myself! I still am. The boys still mean a lot to me. Hence why I put the art for the final chapter here.

April Pete² - I didn’t do much in April. I did some fic illustrations and started BBB!

May Deertrick - A portrait of the grumpy little deer boy! I had and continue to have so much fun with this AU~

June Pride Month! - I did a lot of requests for pride months, and it was a lot of fun! 🏳️‍🌈

July Sons Of Bitches - I was on vacation, so I didn’t have time to draw much. It was also my birthday, and I got so many lovely gifts! <3

August Siren Patrick - I did a lot with pencils, and I had so much fun. I’m never gonna stop! This one is fanart for someone else’s fic for a change, Before It’s Voiced by @folie-aplusieurs !

September Chibi deertrick - I started job hunting and was just generally super anxious. What little free time I had, I spent to prepare for inktober! So not much was posted. But, of course, no month without deertrick, haha!

October Inked Devil Patrick - Inktober, everyone! My second year participating, and it went quite well! Again, my main pieces were an angel and a devil. Unfortunately, they haven’t been colored yet, but... it is on my list for 2019!

November Louder Than Bombs - It was finally time for everyone’s BBBs! It was such a load of content, it wa soverwhelming tbh. I participated both as a primary, and as a secondary creator for the lovely @the-chaotic-panda ! I have a looot of feels about this but to keep it short, I won’t be doing primary art for BBB again, so enjoy what you got.

December Teddytrick - finished the year with some cute Patrick! Look at him. He’s adorable and blushing....!

That’s it, everyone! What a year it has been. I did so much more art in 2018 than in 2017, I am honestly surprised by myself. I filled two skechbooks! I feel amazing. While I didn’t focus as much on elaborate artworks anymore, I felt like doing smaller pieces and sketches improved my skills. While I still want to do larger pieces, I’m also happy with just drawing cuddles and fanart for fics or, well, anything else I can annoy my friends with, haha. Also, I do more Peterick art in general... Well.

I don’t know what 2019 holds for me. I am excited and anxious. If I manage to secure a new job, then I am sure I’ll be more busy, but also way less anxious and eager to be productive. If not... God, I don’t even want to think about it.

In 2019, I hope I can keep fighting against the depression and insecturity that plagued me for the past years. I want to keep creating, and I want to keep sharing my art with the world!
