When you aren't talking or vocalizing, you can't help but kiss them all over because something within you hungers, it knows you need to connect with them.

Finding yourself so grounded in your body in a way you can't usually access. Every sensation in your body a lightshow of pleasure to your nervous system. Where your fingers explore their body like a blind master scultpor explores new clay. You take in every tiny touch because your body aches, it yearns, it needs to connect with them.

Where the climax of either party won't even matter. You both could end the night without a single crescendo, and yet you are both still left with the biggest smile. Beaming at eachother, letting out small bouts of laughter, sometimes even joyous tears. Because intimacy like this bares a part of your soul to them, and theirs to you, urging to fulfill that need to connect with them.

once again thinking about jason as duke’s robin. he’s ~4 years younger than jason, and that puts him at 8-12 during Jason’s time as robin. that’s prime time to get attached to your local kid vigilante before your own life goes downhill.

and if we try to keep duke’s meeting with bruce in zero year + duke’s age (so he can remember the meeting and hold that conversation with bruce), he has to be around 8. if he starts following batman through the news at that time because of the mess that just happened, the robin he sees is probably jason. this is a problem across all areas of society obviously, but transformative works are, well, transformative. they're about crafting and modifying narratives where the fan-creator sees a flaw or a lack -- often for the better! don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share of "I take a hammer and I fix the canon," it's the main thing that gets my creative gears spinning -- but what happens when that "flaw" is simply a narrative not conforming to popular expectations?

some people just don't get PTSD from events that sound obviously traumatic. they're not masking, and they're not coping; they just straight-up didn't get the permanently-locked stress-response that defines PTSD. they walk away from a horrible experience going "well, that sucked, but it's over now." some people do get PTSD from events most people wouldn't find traumatic. we don't really know why some people get PTSD and others don't. but fandom has an idea of events that must be traumatizing, of a "correct" way to portray trauma. you see the problems with this lack of understanding in e.g. fans pressuring the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 to add dialogue where the player character badgers Halsin about his own feelings on his abuse -- because he must be traumatized, and his trauma must fit a certain mold and presentation of sexual trauma, under the mistaken impression that anything outside that narrow window is somehow "wrong" and disrespectful or even harmful to survivors.

take, for another example, the very common trope of a traumatized character who hates touch or sex "learning" to like touch or sex as a part of their healing process. certainly that can be healing for some people; other people will never like, or want, touch or sex, because of trauma or because they just don't. the assumption that someone who doesn't want sex or doesn't like to be touched must be traumatized, must be suffering from this perceived lack, is seriously harmful -- to asexual people, to people with sensory issues around touch, and to people for whom healing from trauma means freedom to refuse sex or touch.

and there's a secondary trope, one that's slightly more thoughtful but ultimately repeats the problem -- that once someone has learned that their boundaries will be respected, they'll feel it's safe to soften those boundaries. once they feel safe refusing touch or sex, they'll feel comfortable allowing it on their own terms. but many people don't, and many people won't! many people will simply never want to be touched, and never want sex, and they are not suffering or broken or lacking because of it. the idea that proving you'll respect someone's boundaries entitles you to test those boundaries -- the paradox is obvious, and yet this is something i've seen hurt (re-traumatize) people i care for.

people are imperfect victims. people don't heal in the ways you expect. many people have positive memories of their abuse, of their abusers. many people hurt others in the course of their trauma, in ways that can't easily be unpacked in a 5k oneshot. very few narratives of trauma and recovery actually fit the ones put forward by popular children's media and romance novels -- which are the ones I most see replicated in fandom spaces, because they provide the clearest narrative and easiest catharsis, and so they're easy and soothing to reach for.

that's not necessarily a bad thing! i am not immune to goopy romance tropes. i am not immune to teary catharsis. not every fic has to grapple with ugly realities. but there's a problem when these narratives become predominant, when people think they're accurate and realistic depictions of trauma, when the truth of trauma is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and doesn't fit any single narrative, let alone one of comforting catharsis

Why does Ren have 4 ears? Are they all real or is one set fake?

Hehe I’ve gotten this question a lot actually! They’re all real— I like to think hybridization isn’t always a clean balance of traits, so Ren just unfortunately ended up with two sets of ears— his Dog ears being much more receptive to sound, naturally— and sometimes when the extra intake of sound is too overwhelming, I imagine he wears earplugs in his human ears to help adjust :> it’s a bit weird, but idk! i like to make designs funky and nonconventional! I liked the idea that Ren had hearing struggles due to wonky hybridization and just kept the concept :>

Ephemer + physical touch

something something Wars used to heavily rely on physical affection to express his care for the people around him and he grew up in an environment where physical contact was not rare, and even training in the army it wasn’t that uncommon, but once the war started and everything that went down happened he couldn’t handle it anymore which left him feeling horrible and isolated because he couldn’t stand being hugged by anyone since it felt like being restrained and he lost a lot of his ability to trust people and became an overall jumpy person. and this made him miserable because he so badly craved that contact again but he knew it’d just set him off and he got pretty lonely and touch starved something something and as the years went by and he started healing he slowly worked his way towards getting more comfortable with it again, and now with the chain (even if someone should NEVER touch him without warning, especially if he doesn’t see them coming because he’ll instinctively pull out a knife faster than you can blink) he’s gotten to the point where he’s fine as long as he’s initiating it and he’s relearning the comfort of being physically close to people and now feels safe enough with the others that he’ll go flop down by Twilight at night and wiggle his way under the wolf pelt (because dont lie to me and say Twi doesn’t use that thing as a blanket) when he gets cold, or pick Wind up and spin him around, or sling his arm around someone’s shoulders when he’s proud of them as a way to say “good job”

I put a cut here because I ramble a lot and don't want to clog up the tags.

Drdt is so well written, I can't help but find myself liking and getting attached to all the characters even though I am well aware of the fate that likely awaits most of the cast.

It's rare that a series is able to get me so emotionally invested in the entire cast, but the characters are all so charming, and they play off one another so well, and they are all characters with multiple dimensions to them that have unique personalities and flaws.

they don't just feel like one-notecharacters. They are all complex characters with multiple layers to them they all have their flaws, and none of them are entirely good people, and that makes them feel more real and less artificial, and it's what gives characters traits that people can relate to which in tern makes them care even more about the characters.

I think as I finished watching chapter 2 and am progressing through my rewatch, I realized just how much I love this series and its characters, and I would gladly wait 5 or more years for chapter 3 if that's what the Dev needs to be in his best mental and physical health.
