the second readthrough of world trigger is where it really kicks in

#my post #world trigger #the first read is really good. it's just that the second read is incredible. and the third gets even better. and the fourth. and the fifth #i might even go so far as to say you haven't fully experienced it. until the second read. bc there is sooooooo much you will appreciate #when you have the knowledge of what comes later. and familiarity with the protags so you can actually pay attention to side characters #who this manga really rewards paying attention to. fans of the other teams in naruto would beg on their knees for their faves to get the #kind of ongoing presence and progression of even wt's fairly minor side characters like taichi or teruya #it's a little overwhelming at first but my god does wt handle its ensemble cast fantastically. while never losing sight of its protags #im so mad the official translation didn't keep the honorifics so we can get even more information on the fantastic web of relationships....#anyways read world trigger! the shonen battle manga with sports series charm. as i have been known to say #tbh i think it's the kind of shonen battle manga that will really appeal to people who stopped reading shonen battle manga haha.#extremely subversive but in very understated and subtle ways. like how its underdog protag is a REAL weak loser underdog (compliment)#the combat is actually interesting (idgaf about 99% of action sequences in any medium. but i fucking love every single fight in wt)#the female characters actually get writing and presence and cool shit. without being subjected to like. any sexualization at all.#and don't discount chika just cause she looks like the typical Demure Shonen Girl at first. she is way more interesting than that #you can tust me #it has its flaws like anything else but i like it. i like it a lot. <understatement of the century

brother crab's fall 2024 first impressions: maou 2099

i think i forgot to make a post after the first ep because my first impressions of it were just. not that deep. i do remember going in with zero expectations and thinking hey this is actually better and more interesting than what i'd imagined! but it still wasn't That interesting

HOWEVER

SECOND EPISODE ELEVATED EVERYTHING

first of all peak bishounen demon lord design here. nothing revolutionary but a solid classic. 10/10 no notes

and like okay so the premise of a ye olden fantasy times demon lord being defeated then resurrected into a far future sci-fi world sounded really fun with the potential to be super funny. it made me think of paripi koumei which was basically incredible

the first ep was a little higher on the drama than the humor imo, but the second ep? second ep, the humor really hit

i'm absolutely loving the demon lord's extremely loyal, faithful follower who worked for centuries to resurrect him and is also his number one simp. like this poor girl almost got outed as a demon king otome doujinshi otaku. right in front of her demon king

demon lord's job hunt and the outcome of it is also just. i won't even spoil it because. hilarious. truly

the worldbuilding is also reasonably interesting, i think that was one of the things that impressed me most in the first episode

overall, really pleasantly surprised by this one and looking forward to more!

man. ive had this art in my drafts since like three dnd games ago (so, like, two months? lmao) and have been putting off finishing it because NOTHING i could draw could possibly express how fucked up this fight made me feel. immense shouts out to my DM for a) understanding my taste in symbolism and themes, and b) letting raz literally kill himself with no consequences

I only watched a few episodes of the X-Files until recently so I'm getting to enjoy recognizing all the filming locations from living in the general area but it's like:

Hey Squidward! I recognize the location where they filmed this!

#x files #Mulder goes to a construction site and it's clearly GM Place (which is now called Roger's Arena)#Or just general background locations when they film outdoors #They really liked going to Steveston in season one #I guess Steveston just has ''smalltown America'' vibes because they used it for that on Stargate SG1 as well #Though Stargate did that pretty far into the series so they had US post boxes as decoration #the cannery is a pretty cool place to film though and the street lamps are unique so I can understand why it's popular #It's just funny because my earliest memory of Steveston is getting ice cream and going to a yarn store

subtitling videos is a Not Fun Task however it gets less sucks after i get into it and i do actually enjoy the rest of the editing process, specifically getting to add in little quips and sidenotes in some places. one of my favorite things about making things entirely by myself primarily for myself with no incentive to leave out the stuff i enjoy is that nobody can stop me from infodumping about lodestones in the corner text because it's my video and I do what I want, bitch.

God I'm so glad I decided to read No Pollution, No Public Harm. Gan Qing is a fucking gift. I'm genuinely thrilled that for once I've found an interesting m/f dynamic where the woman gets the be the tortured, edgy, mysterious one.

I'm in mid to late book three, and man, the other women in the novel are a mixed bag, but Gan Qing is just so good. She's a shameless brash menace of a person on the surface and an obviously traumatized hardass underneath. If she's not already a murderer, then she's constantly teetering on the edge of becoming one. She's got layers. She dropped out of high school but she corrects the mistakes on Liu Zhongqi's english homework. She hangs out around her apartment in oversized basketball shorts and gets sick from running after eating too many chicken wings and she could slit somebody's throat with her house key. She's cool as hell and legit terrifying and she's gross and messy and weird. 10/10 the love interest of all time genuinely.

#maybe I just read/watch the wrong things but it's genuinely so refreshing to see a series w a male protagonist and a female love interest #where the woman is such like. a well rounded and cool and un-sexualized character #she's violent she's tortured she self-sabotages she's a sillygoofy little menace that eats junk food and sells astrology charms #I picked this novel to read in large part bc I wanted to see how priest would handle a female love interest #since the two danmei I've read by her are such absolute boys' clubs but the women in TS are so good #and the answer so far as of midway through the series. is that she does it *really* well #there hasn't actually been much in the way of romance yet #but the confrontation in the cemetery. man #I can see the echos of mo du just a bit in their dynamic #the relatively straight-laced main character desperately trying to keep a person he cares about from taking a step down a dark path #that they can't come back from #andie reads npnph #no pollution no public harm
