Before the war, Harry Crosby had started school for his master’s degree in literature at the University of Iowa. He was regarded as a very smart guy, “borderline genius” by some of the others he served with and yet infuriatingly humble.

On one particular training mission with the Just-a-Snappin’ crew, the weather was good and Crosby knew where they were at every second of the fight, so he pretended to be a tour guide of sorts.

I tried to keep the crew entertained. I pointed out some places with funny English names, like "Ribble" and "Barrow-in-Furness." I showed them Balmoral Castle, Gretna Green, and Newcastle.

The best part is, only Crosby was allowed to do such a thing during the flight. Blakely would get rather miffed if anyone else tried to initiate any funny business over open-mic.

i just think this is the core of any friendship that matters, to make a joke out of urself and laugh with ur friends about it to make them feel better, thats the whole point of friendship

One of the worst things to happen to me in the 100th was this: I was in the spare gunner’s hut in the 349th. Lt. Cowan had a gunner in the hospital and I knew his crew for we had been in the same hut, so I flew with him, replacing his gunner. We made the first daylight raid on Berlin. You never saw such a tight formation as there was that day. Then someone ran us into clouds…After three missions with Cowan, his gunner returned to the crew. The next day was…March 6, Berlin and we were wiped out. Lovin, a gunner from Reeder’s crew, I believe, and I were the only two left in our hut. Lovin rotated back to the states a day or two later. I was alone in that hut for 15 days and was going nuts. Finally one day Capt. Reeder was walking past squadron operations and I stopped him. I told him I couldn’t take it anymore. “Take what?” he asked. I told him my problem…he told me to take a three day pass to London…

Bulks were already scary but holy shit

I just finished up a hazard 4 mission but let me tell y’all about this fucking bulk detonator that I encountered along the way: So imagine you’re me, currently navigating her sad ass through glacial strata during a morkite mining mission. Simple enough. There’s not that much nitra but hopefully I’ll be able to ration out my ammo and grenades to make it work. Suddenly, two rockpox waves show up (which sucks because the weakpoints are bitches to hit, even with guided missile launcher). My ammo count plummets, and now I’m scrambling around even more to find nitra to cover the cost of a resupply. Along the way I also encounter two more waves, both of them with bulk detonators (these two were just annoying, as they ate up my bullets more) Finally  I come across a room with some nitra in it! I manage to mine it and deposit it right before the game decides to yeet another swarm on me. I call down a resupply and manage to grab a single one before shit truly hits the fan. Thankfully, the wave wasn’t that big. There was an oppressor, but aside from it just being a damage sponge, there wasn’t much to worry about. Its roars sounded kinda funny though, almost like a bulk was roaring alongside it... I passed that off as a new audio for the oppressor that I hadn’t heard, and proceeded to kill it. ...silence follows, contributing to my assumption that the oppressor just felt like making bulk-themed noises today. I pull up my terrain scanner to see where the next dirt patch is. “Huh, that tunnel directly beneath me wasn’t there last time I checked....” “...why is that tunnel digging itself?”
