what did the “now ur his” mean?? that was before alex and buck talked right?
I didn’t quite catch all the dialogue in the ep this time but that was something that Macon said to Alex when he suggested talking to Buck about the escape plan. I got the impression that Macon was saying “you think he’s someone we should go to when he barely spoke to us when we arrived?” But Alex seems to understand that Buck is a reserved person that’s not talkative and he doesn’t mind. There must have been something about Buck that made Alex decide to trust him with their talk.
I do need to rewatch their convo because Alex asked something I couldn’t catch that I think was about their bunk assignments? Buck gave Macon and Alex Brady and Hambone’s bunks which explained why they looked a little put out but I didn’t catch what Alex said about it. The top bunks were always more preferred real estate but I’m still trying to decipher all that context.

In 2008, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas decided to send his teenage grandnephew to Hidden Lake Academy, a private boarding school in the foothills of northern Georgia. The boy, Mark Martin, was far from home. For the previous decade, he had lived with the Justice and his wife in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Thomas had taken legal custody of Martin when he was 6 years old and had recently told an interviewer he was “raising him as a son.”
Tuition at the boarding school ran more than $6,000 a month. But Thomas did not cover the bill. A bank statement for the school from July 2009, buried in unrelated court filings, shows the source of Martin’s tuition payment for that month: the company of billionaire real estate magnate Harlan Crow.
The payments extended beyond that month, according to Christopher Grimwood, a former administrator at the school. Crow paid Martin’s tuition the entire time he was a student there, which was about a year, Grimwood told ProPublica.
“Harlan picked up the tab,” said Grimwood, who got to know Crow and the Thomases and had access to school financial information through his work as an administrator.
Before and after his time at Hidden Lake, Martin attended a second boarding school, Randolph-Macon Academy in Virginia. “Harlan said he was paying for the tuition at Randolph-Macon Academy as well,” Grimwood said, recalling a conversation he had with Crow during a visit to the billionaire’s Adirondacks estate.
ProPublica interviewed Martin, his former classmates and former staff at both schools. The exact total Crow paid for Martin’s education over the years remains unclear. If he paid for all four years at the two schools, the price tag could have exceeded $150,000, according to public records of tuition rates at the schools.
Thomas did not report the tuition payments from Crow on his annual financial disclosures. Several years earlier, Thomas disclosed a gift of $5,000 for Martin’s education from another friend. It is not clear why he reported that payment but not Crow’s.
The tuition payments add to the picture of how the Republican megadonor has helped fund the lives of Thomas and his family.
“You can’t be having secret financial arrangements,” said Mark W. Bennett, a retired federal judge appointed by President Bill Clinton. Bennett said he was friendly with Thomas and declined to comment for the record about the specifics of Thomas’ actions. But he said that when he was on the bench, he wouldn’t let his lawyer friends buy him lunch.
Tumblr media
Thomas did not respond to questions. In response to previous ProPublica reporting on gifts of luxury travel, he said that the Crows “are among our dearest friends” and that he understood he didn’t have to disclose the trips.
ProPublica sent Crow a detailed list of questions and his office responded with a statement that did not dispute the facts presented in this story.
“Harlan Crow has long been passionate about the importance of quality education and giving back to those less fortunate, especially at-risk youth,” the statement said. “It’s disappointing that those with partisan political interests would try to turn helping at-risk youth with tuition assistance into something nefarious or political.” The statement added that Crow and his wife have “supported many young Americans” at a “variety of schools, including his alma mater.” Crow went to Randolph-Macon Academy.

Crow did not address a question about how much he paid in total for Martin’s tuition. Asked if Thomas had requested the support for either school, Crow’s office responded, “No.”
Last month, ProPublica reported that Thomas accepted luxury travel from Crow virtually every year for decades, including international superyacht cruises and private jet flights around the world. Crow also paid money to Thomas and his relatives in an undisclosed real estate deal, ProPublica found. After he purchased the house where Thomas’ mother lives, Crow poured tens of thousands of dollars into improving the property. And roughly 15 years ago, Crow donated much of the budget of a political group founded by Thomas’ wife, which paid her a $120,000 salary.
“This is way outside the norm. This is way in excess of anything I’ve seen,” said Richard Painter, former chief White House ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush, referring to the cascade of gifts over the years.
Painter said that when he was at the White House, an official who’d taken what Thomas had would have been fired: “This amount of undisclosed gifts? You’d want to get them out of the government.”
A federal law passed after Watergate requires Justices and other officials to publicly report most gifts. Ethics law experts told ProPublica they believed Thomas was required by law to disclose the tuition payments because they appear to be a gift to him.
Justices also must report many gifts to their spouses and dependent children. The law’s definition of dependent child is narrow, however, and likely would not apply to Martin since Thomas was his legal guardian, not his parent. The best case for not disclosing Crow’s tuition payments would be to argue the gifts were to Martin, not Thomas, experts said.
But that argument was far-fetched, experts said, because minor children rarely pay their own tuition. Typically, the legal guardian is responsible for the child’s education.
“The most reasonable interpretation of the statute is that this was a gift to Thomas and thus had to be reported. It’s common sense,” said Kathleen Clark, an ethics law expert at Washington University in St. Louis. “It’s all to the financial benefit of Clarence Thomas.”
Martin, now in his 30s, told ProPublica he was not aware that Crow paid his tuition. But he defended Thomas and Crow, saying he believed there was no ulterior motive behind the real estate magnate’s largesse over the decades. “I think his intentions behind everything is just a friend and just a good person,” Martin said.
Crow has long been an influential figure in pro-business conservative politics. He has given millions to efforts to move the law and the judiciary to the right and serves on the boards of think tanks that publish scholarship advancing conservative legal theories.
Crow has denied trying to influence the Justice but has said he extended hospitality to him just as he has to other dear friends. From the start, their relationship has intertwined expensive gifts and conservative politics. In a recent interview with The Dallas Morning News, Crow recounted how he first met Thomas. In 1996, the Justice was scheduled to give a speech in Dallas for an anti-regulation think tank. Crow offered to fly him there on his private jet. “During that flight, we found out we were kind of simpatico,” the billionaire said.
The following year, the Thomases began to discuss taking custody of Martin. His father, Thomas’ nephew, had been imprisoned in connection with a drug case. Thomas has written that Martin’s situation held deep resonance for him because his own father was absent and his grandparents had taken him in “under very similar circumstances.”
Thomas had an adult son from a previous marriage, but he and wife, Ginni, didn’t have children of their own. They pitched Martin’s parents on taking the boy in.
“Thomas explained that the boy would have the best of everything — his own room, a private school education, lots of extracurricular activities,” journalists Kevin Merida and Michael Fletcher reported in their biography of Thomas.
Thomas gained legal custody of Martin and became his legal guardian around January 1998, according to court records.
Martin, who had been living in Georgia with his mother and siblings, moved to Virginia, where he lived with the Justice from the ages of 6 to 19, he said.
Living with the Thomases came with an unusual perk: lavish travel with Crow and his family. Martin told ProPublica that he and Thomas vacationed with the Crows “at least once a year” throughout his childhood.
That included visits to Camp Topridge, Crow’s private resort in the Adirondacks, and two cruises on Crow’s superyacht, Martin said. On a trip in the Caribbean, Martin recalled riding jet skis off the side of the billionaire’s yacht.
Roughly 20 years ago, Martin, Thomas and the Crows went on a cruise on the yacht in Russia and the Baltics, according to Martin and two other people familiar with the trip. The group toured St. Petersburg in a rented helicopter and visited the Yusupov Palace, the site of Rasputin’s murder, said one of the people. They were joined by Chris DeMuth, then the president of the conservative think tank the American Enterprise Institute. (Thomas’ trips with Crow to the Baltics and the Caribbean have not previously been reported.)
Thomas reconfigured his life to balance the demands of raising a child with serving on the high court. He began going to the Supreme Court before 6 a.m. so he could leave in time to pick Martin up after class and help him with his homework. By 2001, the justice had moved Martin to private school out of frustration with the Fairfax County public school system’s lax schedule, The American Lawyer magazine reported.
For high school, Thomas sent Martin to Randolph-Macon Academy, a military boarding school 75 miles west of Washington, D.C., where he was in the class of 2010. The school, which sits on a 135-acre campus in the Shenandoah Valley, charged between $25,000 to $30,000 a year. Martin played football and basketball, and the Justice sometimes visited for games.
Randolph-Macon was also Crow’s alma mater. Thomas and Crow visited the campus in April 2007 for the dedication of an imposing bronze sculpture of the Air Force Honor Guard, according to the school magazine. Crow donated the piece to Randolph-Macon, where it is a short walk from Crow Hall, a classroom building named after the Dallas billionaire’s family.
Tumblr media
Martin sometimes chafed at the strictures of military school, according to people at Randolph-Macon at the time, and he spent his junior year at Hidden Lake Academy, a therapeutic boarding school in Georgia. Hidden Lake boasted one teacher for every 10 students and activities ranging from horseback riding to canoeing. Those services came at an added cost. At the time, a year of tuition was roughly $73,000, plus fees.
The July 2009 bank statement from Hidden Lake was filed in a bankruptcy case for the school, which later went under. The document shows that Crow Holdings LLC wired $6,200 to the school that month, the exact cost of the month’s tuition. The wire is marked “Mark Martin” in the ledger.
Crow’s office said in its statement that Crow’s funding of students’ tuition has “always been paid solely from personal funds, sometimes held at and paid through the family business.”
Grimwood, the administrator at Hidden Lake, told ProPublica that Crow wired the school money once a month to pay Martin’s tuition fees. Grimwood had multiple roles on the campus, including overseeing an affiliated wilderness program. He said he was speaking about the payments because he felt the public should know about outside financial support for Supreme Court Justices. Martin returned to Randolph-Macon his senior year.
Thomas has long been one of the less wealthy members of the Supreme Court. Still, when Martin was in high school, he and Ginni Thomas had income that put them comfortably in the top echelon of Americans.
In 2006 for example, the Thomases brought in more than $500,000 in income. The following year, they made more than $850,000 from Clarence Thomas’ salary from the Court, Ginni Thomas’ pay from the Heritage Foundation and book payments for the Justice’s memoir.
It appears that at some point in Martin’s childhood, Thomas was paying for private school himself. Martin told ProPublica that Thomas sold his Corvette — “his most prized car” — to pay for a year of tuition, although he didn’t remember when that occurred.
In 2002, a friend of Thomas’ from the RV community who owned a Florida pest control company, Earl Dixon, offered Thomas $5,000 to help defray the costs of Martin’s education. Thomas’ disclosure of that earlier gift, several experts said, could be viewed as evidence that the Justice himself understood he was required to report tuition aid from friends.
“At first, Thomas was worried about the propriety of the donation,” Thomas biographers Merida and Fletcher recounted. “He agreed to accept it if the contribution was deposited directly into a special trust for Mark.” In his annual filing, Thomas reported the money as an “education gift to Mark Martin.”

Home flipping, once a profitable real estate strategy, is experiencing its steepest decline in 15 years.
According to the 2023 U.S. Home Flipping report by ATTOM, there has been a 29.3% drop in flipped homes, down to 308,922 from 436,807 in 2022, marking the most significant yearly decrease since 2008.
"The home flipping scene in the U.S. faced tough challenges in 2023," stated ATTOM CEO Rob Barber. High property prices, fierce competition, and a constricted housing market are eroding its feasibility. As a result, profit margins are also shrinking. The average gross profit on flips was $66,000 in 2023, down from $70,100 in 2022, which equates to a 27.5% ROI, the lowest since 2007, before expenses like mortgage interest and renovation costs are deducted.
More than half of the metropolitan areas studied saw a dip in flipping activity, especially in the South and West. Gainesville, Georgia, and Phoenix, Arizona, led the downturn. Conversely, cities like Macon, Georgia, and Gulfport, Mississippi, witnessed an uptick in flipping rates.
Barber concluded, "The downturn is likely due to limited housing inventory and diminishing profits. A financial recalibration is necessary for flipping to regain its footing."

Unfortunately, the thing is that Jonah also couldn't be a proud gay black man--IN AMERICA. He had to enlist in the army during WWI--at risk of being deployed someplace godawful--just to get OUT of this stinking racist homophobic country, and be seen & treated more equally by society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MANY gay black men and women fled America to Europe, where it was just safer & more lucrative for them, from Josephine Baker to James Baldwin.
It had nothing to do with Louis being a vampire or not. If you were caught being gay and black in the Jim Crow South, you could be beat up, jailed, or just killed.
The sad truth is that there was no good solution for Louis--and there was no hope for Louis & Jonah in a relationship, either. They hadn't seen in each other in years before 1917 (Ep3).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonah was able to leave & travel. Louis couldn't've gone with him--he'd been trapped in NOLA taking care of the DPDL estate since 1905.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can assume that Jonah & the Macons were nowhere near as affluent as Louis & the DPDLs--especially cuz Louis was a mixed-race Creole with white ancestors and a fortune from owning a sugar plantation. There was no way in the world duty-bound Louis would've packed up and left the estate to collapse under the mentally ill Paul & the unmarried girl Grace--just to live with Jonah way up North & work cheap labor as a busboy/janitor in a Philly hotel, or have 3 of his fingers blown off in a Delaware gunpowder mill. Who would look after his family without Louis there to make them A LOT of money--enough to keep paying the church hefty "donations" to keep Paul busy/calm (instead of throwing him back in a mental asylum); and make sure Grace had a good dowry so she could get married; and keep Florence's banjo bands paid?
And we know Louis started running Storyville after Jonah had already left, cuz Jonah was shocked by Louis' success, "Mr Done Alright."
Tumblr media
So Jonah wasn't there when Lestat came a'knockin--Paul was still suicidal, and if Louis hadn't become a vampire he would've died too--likely the same night as Paul's funeral, cuz Louis was also suicidal.
The real "what if" is what could've happened if Jonah had STAYED.
And it's bleak: Jonah was looking for work, but cuz Papa DPDL hadn't died yet, Louis was in no position to financially support Jonah, or his own family. He hadn't become the "Dark Prince of Iberville" yet. So Jonah would've been jobless, poor & destitute, likely for a long time--it took Louis 5 years to build his "small empire". Jonah was desperate & willing to do any hard but honest labor that would keep him fed & FREE--from gunpowerder mills, to WWI enlistment.
Tumblr media
Would Jonah have approved of Louis becoming a pimp? Would he have urged Louis to stick to harder but more honest work, like just sticking to the smaller businesses he ran--earning only "nickels, dimes, quarters!"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis & Jonah would've drifted apart HELLA fast, I reckon. Louis was way too ambitious, proud, and sorry to say it: SCUMMY. Candidates for vampirism are those who have just enough moral greyness in them to turn to the dark side and damn their souls for power. That's why the shift from slaveowner to pimp works so well.
There's also Louis' interesting reactions to seeing Lestat's vampirism (i.e.: tricks AND blatant crimes) in action, and being unfazed by it all (especially in the OG pilot script, where he had a much closer relationship with "Nawlins voodoo"). But Louis said Jonah freaked TF out when seeing proof of Louis' vampirism when they reunited decades later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I just don't see Jonah as having been at all cool with the dirty business of being a pimp, on top of the societal demands that would require both Louis AND Jonah to stay in the closet in order to maintain their status as respected businessmen in a world quick to use any excuse to see successful black men thrown in jail or killed. Jonah seems like way too much of a good egg, to have put up with Louis' nonsense for too long before leaving him behind anyway.
Tumblr media
So we all know that Lestat's promise that turning Louis into a vampire will let him live his life "without apology" is a lie. Lestat has no understanding of how Louis will still need to navigate being a Black man in the U.S. and how that'll impact his life (even after he's a vampire).
But also, that's part of why having Jonah be a Black man, and specifically a Black man who Louis knew in his childhood, and even more specifically, a Black man comfortable with his own queerness...is such a good decision.
Because Jonah's existence in this story makes us, the audience, ask 'what if.' Like, here's an example of who Louis could have been if he'd never met Lestat. He could've had a human life where he was a proud gay Black man.
In episode 1, Louis says that being a gay Black man in New Orleans was impossible. And then in episode 3, Jonah comes in as a gay Black man and shows that actually there was a way to be himself without turning into a vampire.
Louis' deteriorating relationship with his sister does something similar. We see that she is actually quite accepting of Louis' as a gay man. All the problems in their relationship stem from him being a vampire. Which makes it so tragic...because it makes it pretty clear that he'd have been able to maintain his relationship with his sister if he'd been out with her as a human.
The more time passes, we see the life Louis could have had...and the life Louis wanted to have.

An Overview of Average Rent in Macon's Real Estate Market
Contrasting the real estate landscape, the hustling and bustling of cities, and the laid-back atmosphere of towns, Macon stands as Georgia's melting pot of properties. It manifests a pleasant synthesis of historic homes and modern apartments, providing a variety of choices for potential renters. But what strikes the majority is the Macon average rent being considerably nominal. Rental investors and prospective tenants look at the rental average as an essential element that helps gauge the affordability of a particular locality. Macon, surprisingly, sits significantly lower than most parts of Georgia and even the national average.
The Macon average rent for a one-bedroom apartment hovers around $680 per month as of 2021. For a two-bedroom apartment, the rent increases slightly to around $790 per month. Compare this to the national average of $1,098 for a one-bedroom apartment and $1,344 for a two-bedroom apartment, and the affordability of Macon becomes readily apparent. This attractive rental pricing coupled with Macon’s rich historical charm and thriving arts scene is luring in renters looking for a cheaper, yet culturally rich place to live. Businesses and education institutes further enrich the town's profile, making it not just an attractive rental destination but also a promising working and learning environment. In essence, the real estate of Macon is an epitome of affordability, convenience, and cultural richness.
Its lower-than-average rents offer a window of opportunity for property investors eyeing stable rental income. Simultaneously, renters can take advantage of the Macon average rent to save on living costs while enjoying the town’s unique lifestyle offerings. Balancing these aspects renders Macon a market to watch in Georgia’s real estate industry.

Mark Randall Meadows (born July 28, 1959) is an American politician who served as the 29th White House chief of staff from 2020 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he also served as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district from 2013 to 2020. During his legislative tenure, Meadows chaired the Freedom Caucus from 2017 to 2019. He was considered one of Donald Trump's closest allies in Congress before his appointment as chief of staff.[1]
A Tea Party Republican, Meadows was a founding member of the Freedom Caucus. During his time in Congress, he was one of the most conservative Republican lawmakers and played an important part of the United States federal government shutdown of 2013. He also sought to remove John Boehner as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
Meadows resigned from Congress on March 31, 2020, to become White House chief of staff. As chief of staff, he played an influential role in the Trump administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He pressured the Food and Drug Administration to adopt less strict guidelines for COVID-19 vaccine trials,[2] and admonished the White House's own infectious disease experts for not "staying on message" with Trump's rhetoric.[3] In October 2020, Meadows said it was futile to try "to control the pandemic", emphasizing instead a plan to contain it with vaccines and therapeutics. As the virus spread among White House staff in the fall of 2020, he reportedly sought to conceal the cases, including his own.[4][5] After Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, Meadows participated in Trump's failed effort to overturn the election results and remain in power.[6][7][8]
On December 14, 2021, Meadows was held in criminal contempt of Congress[9] for refusing to cooperate with the January 6 Select Committee. He is the first White House chief of staff since the Watergate scandal and first former member of Congress to have been held in contempt of Congress.[10][11] The contempt charge was referred to the Justice Department, which declined to prosecute him.[12]
On October 26, 2022, a South Carolina circuit judge ordered Meadows to testify before a Georgia grand jury investigating Republican efforts to reverse the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. The grand jury was empaneled by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who said the inquiry is examining "the multistate, coordinated efforts to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere."[13] On August 14, 2023, he was indicted along with 18 other people in the prosecution related to the 2020 election in Georgia; Meadows is the second White House Chief of Staff to face criminal charges, after H. R. Haldeman.[14]
Early life and education Meadows's mother was from Sevierville, Tennessee, and his father from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was born at a United States Army hospital in Verdun, France, where his father was serving in the Army and his mother worked as a civilian nurse.[citation needed]
Meadows grew up in Brandon, Florida, and described his upbringing as "poor".[15] He has said he was a "fat nerd" who went on a diet after a classmate rejected him for a date.[15] Meadows attended Florida State University for one year in 1977–78.[15] It was reported that Meadows held a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida for many years in his official biography maintained by the Office of the Historian of the U.S. House of Representatives. In actuality, he graduated from the University of South Florida with an Associate of Arts.[15]
Early career In 1987, Meadows started "Aunt D's", a small restaurant in Highlands, North Carolina. He later sold it and used the proceeds to start a real estate development company in the Tampa, Florida, area.[16]
While living in Highlands, Meadows served as chairman of the Republican Party in Macon County, and was a delegate to several state and national Republican conventions.[17] Meadows was on North Carolina's Board for Economic Development in Western North Carolina.[18]
In 2011, he moved to Glenville, North Carolina. In 2016, he sold his house and moved into an apartment in Biltmore Park, a mixed-use community in Asheville, North Carolina, while deciding where to buy next in either Henderson or Buncombe counties.[19] He is the owner of Highlands Properties, which specializes in construction and land development.[20] In 2014, Meadows sold 134 acres (54 hectares) of land in Dinosaur, Colorado, to a young earth creationist group. He appeared in the controversial creationist film Raising the Allosaur: The True Story of a Rare Dinosaur and the Home Schoolers Who Found It (2002), which was debunked by experts.[21]
U.S. House of Representatives In Congress, Meadows had an ultraconservative voting record.[6] He signed the Contract from America, a set of ten policies assembled by the Tea Party movement.[22][23] Meadows was a founding member of the Freedom Caucus.[24]
Meadows voted against disaster relief spending for October 2012's Hurricane Sandy, which struck the Northeastern United States and caused severe damage.[25] He was one of several Republicans who claimed the funding bill contained pork-barrel spending that had nothing to do with hurricane relief, a claim the bill's supporters denied.[25][26] Meadows's opposition to Sandy relief was recalled in 2017 news accounts after he and many Republicans who had opposed it voted in favor of disaster aid following Hurricane Harvey, which caused massive damage in Louisiana and Texas that August.[25][26] Critics alleged that Republicans were hypocritically opposing spending in states with Democratic majorities while supporting it in Republican states.[27] Republicans, including Meadows, claimed the situations were different because the Harvey spending bill contained no "pork".[27] A Congressional Research Service review determined that the Sandy spending bill's funds were almost all devoted to recovery from Sandy.[28]
Meadows served as chair of the Subcommittee on Government Operations up until June 20, 2015, when fellow Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz removed him from the position. A member of the House Republican leadership, Chaffetz removed Meadows due to Meadows's vote against a procedural motion the Republican leadership presented.[29] Meadows was one of 34 Republicans who voted against the motion, which allowed for consideration of President Barack Obama's request for fast-track authority on trade agreements. Speaker John Boehner supported the measure, but many Republicans felt it gave too much power to Democrats and Obama specifically.[30] Chaffetz's action was seen as controversial, with many prominent Republican politicians, including Texas senator Ted Cruz, speaking out against the punishment.
Meadows served as ranking member of the House Oversight Committee for 18 days, until he assumed the office of White House Chief of Staff.[31]
Meadows was a member of these committees:
