The original tag was created by ReadLikeWildfire and Earl Grey Books! oh hello friends! it is time for one of the best blog posts of the whole entire year! i love being able to see where i am at with my reading and my goals, and being able to reassess and refocus on what i want my reading in the last half of the year to be like! the first half of 2023 has truly been filled with a lot of happy…

Can I be honest here,
I find highly ironic that people will harass new fans just because "ew you don't know all the 400 books and 200+ short stories, you're new and ignorant, ew", then will proceed to correct them and
*drum roll*
They are wrong or hold incomplete knowledge themselves.

I AM NOW THE PROUD OWNER OF A 400-PAGE LONG BOOK OF ACADEMIC ANALYSIS ABOUT MDZS (both the novel and CQL, as well as the wider danmei sphere, internet authorship, fan reactions in both CN and non-CN spheres, and so many more interesting things – there are photos of the contents list below) >:DDDD

I only got it this afternoon so have only read the (quite long?) excerpt available online and pages I came across while flipping through, but everything I've read so far is really interesting and well-written. If you're interested, it's promoted on the blog of @pumpkinpaix, where there are also chapter spotlights with comments from authors of each paper/chapter about them and about MDZS in general (which is how I found out about it, one came up in tumblr's 'based on this tag you follow...' recommendation), as well as FAQs (including where to buy it, though I did link that at the start). Alternatively, all posts about it are in the tag #catching chen qing ling!
I really recommend it, especially if content about MDZS interests you! and I promise I haven't been told to advertise this it's just something so so cool... a collection of academic work about MY FAVOURITE BOOK... and I know people do follow me for meta/analysis so this might be the sort of thing people looking at this blog will be interested in..?

Do any of you use book apps? For example: Goodreads, Story Graph, Bookmory, or Hoopla?
I’m sick of Goodreads, so I was looking through the App Store and it was surprising how many new apps there are for books.

hm. in the process of doing some informal research re: Kollok I found this line on Polygon:
"One of the show’s gimmicks is that players who subscribe to the channel on Twitch can then make their own characters and are then allowed to embark on a freeform text-based role-play via Discord."
And I gotta ask but has anyone from the Polygon TTRPG/Actual Play writers every been on social media because I'm like, pretty sure any fan of any show can make up an OC and do text-based roleplay on a Discord server; it just might not be an official Discord server. I really do increasingly feel like Polygon capes so hard for Kollok and the heavily film-edited D20 seasons because they don't actually have a good grounding in basic actual play and fandom culture and are honestly a little embarrassed by it. Unfortunately this also means that they're like "Gadzooks! What are these Incredible New concepts like Text-based Roleplay and Longform Campaigns Of Undetermined Length!" and overall it gives off the vibe of a not terribly bright and profoundly stoned college sophomore trying to appear knowledgeable about music by acting like the guitar was invented in 1995 by Oasis.

Image ID: a diagram of different types of blood and their colors. Bit of a long description, sorry.
1.) Most things have hemoglobin, which is red. The iron in hemoglobin is what bonds with oxygen.
2.) Some mollusks and arthropods have hemocyanin. It works best in cold environments with low oxygen pressure. Hemocyanin is blue when oxygenated and clear when not, and has copper instead of iron.
3.) Some marine worms and brachiopods have hemerythrin. Hemerythrin has a much lower affinity for carbon monoxide than hemoglobin. It’s a pinkish-violet when oxygenated and clear when not, and binds to oxygen with iron.
4.) A few marine polychetes have erythrocruorin. This one kind of sucks at binding with oxygen. The colors are also a bit fucky, when the blood is undiluted it appears as a light red, but when it is diluted it looks green. Erythrocruorin also uses iron.
5.) Artificial oxygen carrier! Coboglobin! Sources on color are notably varied and a little bit fucked up. The first set, amber when oxygenated and clear when not, from what I’ve read is probably the most accurate? But this is for fictional sci-fi so who gives a shit. The second set is pink when oxygenated and amber when un-oxygenated. End image ID
I encourage everyone to straight-up color pick from these if you want. Credit me if you want to, don’t if you don’t, i don’t even know how accurate the stuff after the grey line is. I just wanted to find out wtf blood was.
While I remember- I made another one of these for what gases are used in respiration. It’s under the tag ‘this is a graph (biology)’ which is the last tag here too ;)
