Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...
...and also being able to read things like THIS:
#art#crochet#fiber art#described images#image description in alt#used a crochet pattern for this because it's just INSANE#see i can recognize some of these stitch markings but i haven't done them all yet#i actually kind of prefer the diagram pattern because it actually shows you the shape and the way stitches compliment the piece#with a 'normal' pattern (e.g. 1 dc in fifth ch from hook ch 2 4 dc) i understand it sure but. it isn't the same.#i was reading somebodys recommendations for tapestry yarn and understood all the abbreviations and what they mean#plus i feel like diagrams can be a great way to teach you not only how stitches look but how they contribute to the larger piece#one of my crochet proficiency goals is to be able to look at a piece and know instantly what made it#*cue me at the store analyzing a crochet piece so i can replicate it for 5× the cost*#if you're selling a crocheted piece for like $20 then it's my imperative to replicate it and not buy it 🫡#i think that has the same moral implication as like... 'proplifting'#did crochet as the example because thats what i do as a fiber art. if theres a similar thing for knit/weave/ect then DROP IT BELOW I BEG YO#i want to learn all the lovecraftian languages of the fiber artists <3#i feel like describing the image in exactly what stitch marking indicates what would have been too much so hopefully the explanation as to..#...what the diagram DOES and how it visually indicates a pattern was helpful <3

Replenishing the Nonfiction Stack; or, We're Calling the Book Buying Ban a Wash, Officially.
I am not, apparently, immune to coupons for niche nonfiction that's directly up my alley (octopus minds and RUSSIAN OWLS, hello??? Thanks, bookshop!).
I thought perhaps the BURGLAR'S GUIDE would also be covered under said coupon, since it was publisher-specific (alas: it was Not, but we might as well bundle for shipping purposes). And then while I was shopping IRL for gifties I found a copy of ROOM, which has been on my list for...ever? So! Hopefully these will hold me over on the nonfiction front for a minute!

Finally got an actual bookshelf and not a dresser/shelf combo to fit my books.
Sadly my art books and copies of Dinotopia are too long for it so I'll have to figure out where else I can fit a shelf.
This bookshelf is probably such a read on me...

#i'm just rambling#There is an order.#It was supposed to start with the art books since they're huge but they poke out too much so...#Akira volumes -> graphic novels/comics -> manga dinosaur sanctuary leads into paleontolgy#Paleontolgy-> Jurassic Park and other fiction -> MXTX and similar books.#No I don't have all of Banana Fish. I'm missing four volumes.#The copies of Deathnote and Fruits Basket vol. 1 HAVE to sit next to each other#They have been together for 4-5 years. It is illegal to separate them.#I read all of TGCF before it got officially published in English so I've only got the first two volumes for now.#I blame my friend at the time for getting me a copy of check please cause it reignited my love for webcomics.#There's still a bunch of books I wanna buy so oghhh will have to find a bookshelf similar in color at least.#Ignore the TV on the ground. The place I wanna mount it is currently occupied by a dresser and my bird's cage.

as we can all see, the bsd brainworms got me. so i am adding bsd to the manga collection chart 🫡
#i haven't really connected it even READ manga in so many years#and then i realized that i only owned one (1) volume of haikyuu while i was binging it#and that the anime likely wouldn't go as far as the manga does#(it should only be these next 2 movies i believe?)#so i wanted to be able to actually read the whole story#so I've set off to stop by the bookstore every week before trivia (since they're on the same road anyway) to buy 1 volume every week#or that's the goal but since it's a used book store after a certain point there won't BE volumes i don't already have#BUT now I've added bsd (and it's light novels) to this#alas i do actually have a good but if bsd manga already though#despite having more actually READ IT i do have the first 9 volumes of mana and 5 light novels cksjjcjsjcjjsjc#anyway#🫡#this means if they don't have a new volume of haikyuu i will look for one of bsd instead#and if they have neither i will simply not buy anything#now i just need to figure out the timing bc i was WAYYYYY too early last week fjsjjvjsj#shh ac

#presenting my cursed sleep-deprived brainworm of the day: nagisa gets sold to ft4 for uni fees#or well. more like they’re looking for a live-in assistant dude. thing. or sth. idk#and papa shiranami just sells his son off bc ‘hey it’s literal free real estate!!! plus he’s gonna get paid for the entire deal so why not?’#nagisa initially pitches a fit at his dad a la gamushara yelling scene bc ‘dad!!!!!! how could you just sell me off to some strangers?!!!!’#‘shhhh son; think of the free housing. in ✨t o k y o✨. stuff’s expensive there yk’ ‘but still!!!!!’#so nagi sulkily packs his bags and heads out; trying to motivate himself with thoughts of ‘hey at least i’ll get to see hiyori more often’#then he arrives at the train station and sees our favourite 5-man non-idol gang… and promptly passes out#when he comes to… poor guy finds himself right smack in the middle of a hugeass canopy bed#with dai sitting smugly by the side like ‘the great me carried you back mans. you’re welcome ;)’ with a tip of his cool fedora#and that’s when nagi realises that 1) it’s not a dream and that he actually has to live with his oshis now. and 2) damnnnn this bed is soft#cohabitation shenanigans happen. as they would seeing as the entire gang + rio’s niece live together in this oddly huge megu-owned penthouse#plus free bi-weekly vacations to megu’s family villa bc they can never spend a waking moment without each other#and nagi finds it strange that the group is oddly accomodating of his uni schedule when it concerns his job tasks and such…#or that they collab with lxl (hi hiyori!!!) way more than they should typically be…#but he brushes it off when rio asks him to cook with him or sth idk i mean how often do you get to cook with your oshi????#and idk eventually the jig is up and it’s revealed that hiyori was the one who was accidentally behind the whole thing#like a ‘sorry nagisa i told uchida that you’d be moving here too but lxl were there the entire time and they went and got ft4 to buy you’#or something kinda thing. idk. bc everything has to be lxl’s fault; even when they’re just lurking in the bg#i’m def gonna regret this later lmao. it’s almost 2.30 in the am; i have not written in months; and i’ve never read a sold to 1.d. fic ev er#this is the kind of cosmic horror that only sleep-deprived brains can cook up ig…….. oh wells#it is suiyoubi my dudes#the dude from gamushara

thought of what my ideal life would be today while having a shit time at work and it made me realize why i always align with the lonely
#maybe im looking into this too deep but#step 1: work and save money#step 2: complete my associates#step 3: compile my savings#step 4: buy a $40 wwoofing membership for the year#step 5: contact farms and arrange dates#step 6: pack my shit and leave#there’s farms on there you can stay at for months at a time. you get a place to sleep and usually most meals are free#or at least the ingredients are#i get a job near the current farm or find a remote job to pay insurance and gas#i travel the country and live on different farms and keep contact with no one#well maybe i’ll send letters#ideal life is 1900s ranch hand#but yeah i think that’s more why i’m lonely aligned#but it’s only an extra $20 for a two person membership#but idk who’d wanna do that with me so :/#me rambling#if one day i suddenly stop posting those reading this will know exactly what happened

folio society is so expensive but it's honestly less stressful purchasing from them directly than otherwise hunting online for an exact edition of a book in good condition
#personal#i dont want to own many books. most books in fact. i would rather not own. but my faves?!?!?!?! i want them NICE#plus when a family member is like 'what gift do you want' i can literally send them the exact link instead of doing a bunch of research#and giving a detailed list of reqs#like i want piranesi so badddd but i want#1) a clean hardcover without a stamp/logo (womens prize or botm etc) AND#2) an edition with the extra chapter (waterstones or barnes and noble)#BUT the barnes and noble exclusive extra chapter HB has an unremovable stamp. so thats out of the question#so the only version left is the waterstones exlusive w extra chapter. but all the resales of those online are signed#and therefore more expensive#and i dont want a signed copy anyway. ugggghhhhh!!!!#and even those are compromises based on what exists bc i prefer when HB covers are printed onto the book itself rather than the dust jacket#and piranesi HB afaik is only being sold w dust jacket (tho to be fair the piranesi HB art direction is beautiful)#folio made a version of JS&MN which i havent read yet and therefore wouldn't buy a folio version of (yet)#but i'm wondering if they'd do a piranesi version in like 6 years for a 10 year anniversary or smth. since they've printed clarke before#would it even be worth waiting for? just the possibility? and then u have the issue of the movie coming out in the next idk ~2-5 years ish#and god i want the film to be beautiful. but idk if i want a Film Cover Book#the balance between Waiting for the best possible version and getting it now so i dont have to deal with wanting it anymore!!!!#still on the hunt for *** ************ ** ******* ******* and *** ********* too
