Fanfic is supposed to be fun first and foremost.

The amount of disrespect I have seen lately regarding creators is both shocking and disgusting, especially when coming from other creators, and I honestly can't stay quiet about it any longer.

Maybe I'm looking at a lot of this very closely considering I've recently taken an indefinite break from one part of creating I once really enjoyed due to such disregard for my time and effort (rip gif making), but to see such careless comments and treatment for fic authors too??? BY OTHER FIC AUTHORS???

Isn't the world already cruel enough? We should be inviting in positivity and appreciation for the works of others. To celebrate the victories and accomplishments around something that is already nerve wrecking enough as it is. We should not be cultivating a circle where tearing authors apart is acceptable, regardless of if you liked a story or not.

Would you want it done to your works???

Fandom spaces should be fun. Fanfic is a free thing, typically done in what little free time we writers have, and shared with other people for the sake of having FUN. We are not professionals. This is not our full time job. We are not paid for it. Yet to treat fanfic like a professional literary circle is just...wrong. Criticism (constructive only, and when asked for it) is fine, and if you want to shit talk in your DMs to someone else, go for it, but to outright tear someone apart for their FREE fanfic that they wrote to HAVE FUN and ENJOY the fandom with other people in a public space for all eyes (including the author themselves) to see?

Gross.

We are all from different walks of life, and have different experiences that impact why we may or may not go about fic a certain way. Some of us don't speak English as our first language, and some don't go about having a beta reader, or are on a time crunch for an event, etc. You don't know someone's life, and have zero right to talk down another creator because they don't meet your small narrow-minded criteria of what is “good”. What's “bad” and “tear apart” worthy to you, may be a gem of a story to someone else.

There is no room for “if you hated xyz's work, come talk about it with us!”, and if this is something you feel is welcome in any community, fandom, social setting....DO BETTER.

 And do not interact with me.

Create your own online experience, and maybe let’s NOT bully people because of the things they are creating that brings them joy??? Being nice, what a wild concept that is these days.

What special information are you providing? What can you give that is important in bullet points? I don't want neophytes teaching neophytes. What people care about- women's reproductive rights, safe and sane gun laws, critical race theory, immigration, homelessness, student loan debt, cost of healthcare, climate change, LGBTQ+ equality, political corruption..., these aren't delicate bullet points that can be politely discussed and boiled down. And when you try, you run the risk of messages being missed and time being wasted. CAN I SCREAM THAT LOUD ENOUGH SO YOU CAN HEAR OVER THE SOUND OF YOUR OWN EGOS TELLING YOU HOW GREAT YOU ARE!!!! Best thing you can do is get out of the fucking way!

What makes you feel you are the arbiters of all this information that will inspire youth to vote, and not just be more static for them to filter? It's not about you, so why do you feel you are the two that should be talking to high schoolers tomorrow. Besides getting good press and, once again, stroking that ego hard, what are you hoping to get? Do you honestly believe you and Mark are going to inspire anyone tomorrow? Or worse, prove that only pretty, rich, white men get ahead in this world so why even try?

What qualitative and quantitative metrics can you show "the really great feedback from the people who enjoy the information"? I know the feedback for the Antisemitism in Schools was quite engaging, but I don't know how positive it was.

So you still haven't really provided a clear mission statement and goals for the site as it is now with politics, so your solution is to branch out to even more complicated topics around AI and other technologies. Boy, if you took this to "Shark Tank" you would be laughed out of the studio and used as an example of what never to do! Has someone's egoic narrative run amok?

May I give you some advice (fuck it, this is my blog and you are not listening, so I am giving it!). Something I don't suspect you do much, because if you did I don't think you would be in this situation where you are living your life like it doesn't belong to you, is think with the end in mind. Ask the magic question, "If this worked out the way I want it to, what would that look like?" And then work backward from there. I would say try that with ASP, but I don't trust your intentions are pure and thus will never be successful. But it could work with other things if you ever get back in the driver's seat of your world and begin to rebuild.

Get it through your fragile male brains ASP is a bad idea that will only get worse, for the entire country, not just you two, so take the loss. You should get used to the feeling.

Did anyone with that dumb Apprentice movie think the reason that Variety/Penske Media (which is a terrible monopoly that should've never been created and features for the most part some of the most obnoxious clickbait articles SEO has ever known but that's another rant) didn't invite their star on their Actors on Actors things is because we get enough fucking politics on TV and the radio lately, so maybe all of us excited for panels about The Substance, The Outrun and other worthy films didn't want to have them dragged down by something that looks like a miserable 90s TV movie with a man whose life is already so exhaustively cataloged and whose only awards chances seem to the be the Razzies? And with a generic performance by an unexceptional actor? Nobody's being 'silenced'. You made a crappy movie about a crappy man set in the worst period of time New York ever knew who did crappy things that didn't improve New York at all. I'm sorry it didn't get picked up by an actual studio, but like they say in gaming...'get good'. Excuse me if I'd like to have an actor talking to an actor and they're both excited for their films rather than having to drone on about a biopic about a man many would just like to die quietly, but we're stuck with for four more years. And somehow the staff of Variety saw that too.

The stupid Penske-dominated awards campaign scene is already terrible enough without having to deal with a dog of a film most people have no want to see.

Imagine reposting someone’s fanfic, and acting so insanely gross when the author KINDLY asks you to take it down, or at least credit them. (I can’t reblog the og post because I was blocked ages ago by the op)

Imagine then having a toddler tantrum because the author, who was rudely rejected and insulted, shared the post and advised people they were the author as seen in the first set of images.

Imagine being such a GROSS bully because YOU were wrong.

The whole reason for the Scorcese rant last night is I saw some out of context quote from James Gunn on the guy and people were shitting on him for it. You know, despite the fact that Gunn is one of only a handful of modern comic book movie directors who attempts to give his films a unique style and do something different.
