[Promt suggestion] Milla walks in on raz and lili making out and she gives a very embarrassing talk with raz.

Timeline: Near future. Raz and Lili are both 15 years old.

It was a pretty quiet Saturday afternoon in the Vodello-Nein household. Sasha was in his office, fixing up some overdue paperwork and Milla hummed a song as she went around the house picking up laundry as she went. She hadn’t heard her son in almost an hour now. Last she saw him, he ran past her saying something about his plans, but since she was busy and a bit distracted, the only thing she managed to pick up was ‘-with Lili in-‘. So she figured he was hanging out with his girlfriend, and perhaps any of the Junior Agents – whom were not too far away from being promoted to fulltime Agents - too.

As she passed her son’s room, she noticed a pair of socks – among other items of discarded yesterday’s clothing - laying in front of his door. Milla let out a sigh, and with a flick of her wrist the clothes levitated into her laundry basket. “Why did I even bother giving that boy his own laundry bin he begged for last week?”

A familiar scratch in the back of her head tickled her, making her smile as she recognized her husband’s mental touch.. ‘Because he’s longing for more independence from ‘overbearing parents’, as would any 15-year old teenager his age?’

Milla giggled. “Back to your papers, husband, for they won’t fill in themselves.”

A hearty chuckle resonated in her head. “Unfortunately….” She soon felt the connection break away again, leaving Milla with her own thoughts.

Milla looked at Razputin’s door, letting out a heavy breath. Knowing Razputin, his room would be littered with clothes. Such a shame, certainly because he was so much like her when it came to fashion and wellbeing of his clothes when he was younger. So fussy about keeping them as fabulous as possible, as long as possible. But alas, little ducklings grow up into hormonal teenagers as well and will look to tear themselves away from mama duck, looking for their own place in this big blue pond that is the world.

Milla smiled. Not that Raz really tried, though. He was often mentioning about being ‘too big for that, mom’ a lot, but still he would snuggle up to her whenever they’d watch a movie together. He’d always be her little boy, no matter how much he tried to act mature.

She shook away her thoughts and walked over to his room. She’d normally let Raz’s room alone – trying to teach Raz some responsibilities about tidying his own room. But if he was insisted on leaving his dirty laundry around, she’d clean now and give a lecture later.

She opened the door …and froze at the sigh before her. Her teenage son was in his bed, his equally teenage girlfriend Lili on top of him, her shirt seemingly halfway on it’s way to be taken off. The two teens let out a startled yelp, with Lili quickly rolling off Razputin, scrambling up while she tried to fix her outfit.

Raz sat him, giving his mom a venomous look. “Damnit mom, haven’t you ever heard of knocking?!” He asked, his voice a bit too harsh.

Milla dropped her laundry basket, her lips two thin lines on her face. A silence fell over the room. Raz, realizing what he just did, turned bright red.

“Uh …so-“

“Lili, darling, I think it’s time you go home, don’t you think?” Milla asked calmly, her expression neutral despite the overly sweet tone in her voice – which brought shivers down the two teenagers’ backs.

Lili quickly grabbed her jacket, giving Raz a quick wave. “Yes, Milla. Sorry about that Milla. I’m going now Milla. Please don’t kill my boyfriend, Milla.” She turned to Raz. “If you survive, give me a call, okay?”

“Now, Lili.”

Lili squeaked. “Gone! Bye!” She quickly ran out of the room, running into a side table by the sound of it. They heard the front door open and slam shut.

Only Raz and Milla were left in the room. Milla took a deep breath and walked over to her son, who shrunk further in himself with every step she took. By the time Milla had reached his bed and sat down, he was holding his breath.

Milla sighed, her gaze fixed on the wall in front of her. “Razputin, I do not appreciate you raising your voice against me.”

Raz gulped. “Mom, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“

“And I certainly do not like it that you used profanity at me, too.”

Raz shrunk. “That …was an accident. It came out before I realized it.” He explained in a tiny, soft voice. “I mean, you startled me and Lili – NOT that I’m blaming you are anything, but-“

“And what were you and Lili doing?” Milla asked, snapping her gaze at her son.

Raz let out a squeak. “Okay, okay, I don’t know what you think it it looked like, but-“

“I think it looked like you and Lili were making out quite passionately, Razputin.”

“O-kay …so, you do know what it looked like, but-but-but I can explain. Me and Lili were just hanging out here, watching movies and such, just minding our own business and I commented on how nice Lili’s hair looked today and good she smelled and w-well …one thing let to the other. I mean, she’s my girlfriend, right? It’s not like we never-“

“Raz, you are not in trouble for …making out with your girlfriend.” Milla stated, her expression slightly amused for a second before it sterned again. “I’m not a naïve person, darling. I do realize you and Lili are very close, and you two act on it, in the same way you have seen me and Sasha express our love for one another. You’re a passionate person, Razputin. You’re a Vodello, after all.”

“So …I’m not in trouble?”

“I’m not finished.” Milla stated. “I do, however, would like to ask you one thing: if I hadn’t stepped into your room just now, how far would you two have gone?”

Raz tilted his head, his expression confused. “How far would-“ His eyes turned wide and he quickly waved his hand in a frantic dismissive manner. “Oh, oh, mom, no! Me and Lili weren’t gonna- I mean, I wasn’t going to …just kissing, not …the other thing.”

“Well, I’m glad to hear you two never had such intentions, but two hormonal teenagers in love in a room alone could potentially end up in those types of situations. You and Lili are getting older and your bodies are undergoing constant changes, which make you look at one another in different ways then when you were younger.”

Raz groaned. “Mom, I had ‘The Talk’ with dad last year.”

“And now I’m having my say as well, querido.” Milla stated, a teasing smile spreading on her lips. She noticed how Raz visibly relaxed at this sight.

She placed a hand on his cheek and smiled warmly at him. “Razputin, I just want to implore you that you and Lili act responsibly. Not only for your sake, but especially for Lili’s. I realize that, if the two of you ever decided to take the next step-“ She grabbed Raz by his chin, giving it a light squeeze. “-that the two of you wait until you’re both old enough!” She pulled him closer, looking him dead in the eyes. “You understand me, Razputin?”

“Loud and clear, mom.” Raz squeaked.

Milla released him with a smile. “Good. Glad to hear you take this seriously.” She pulled him into a hug, which he promptly returned.

“I’m really sorry I yelled at you, mom.” Raz stated as he pulled away from the hug.

“And I am sorry for not knocking first.” Milla said. She booped her son on the nose. “Seems we both learned a few lessons today, didn’t we?”

“Yeah, I’m gonna need a lock for my door, for instance.” Raz joked.

“Never gonna happen, darling.” Milla patted Raz on the head and stood up. The laundry basket levitated off the ground, into her arms. She stopped in the doorway and looked over her shoulder. “Oh, and please clean your room, darling. It’s like a pigsty in here.”

Raz let out a groan. “Yes, mom…”

“Good boy.”

Milla walked out the room, closing the door behind her. She let out a heavy sigh and smiled. “Teenagers... no-one said motherhood would be easy.”

Changement, ou progrès ?

Oouuppss ! un ''machin-truc'' inconnu de moi a bloqué la parution de l'édotorial de ce jour. Une lectrice avisée, qui vit en Catalogne, me le signale, bientôt suivie d'autres... . Merci à elle et à eux tous..

Ces deux vocables ont ceci de bien pratique qu'on y met ce qu'on veut. Tout ''distinguo'' entre eux échappe à la plupart des gens, et c'est sur ce flou recherché que sont nés la plupart des malentendus qui expliquent le désenchantement du monde, notre désarroi actuel, et la violence par laquelle s'exprime le mal-être contemporain. Et, en plus, les français sont si désabusés que personne ne va avoir le courage de dire : ''Mais c'est tout faux, ce que tu racontes !''. Un més-usage de concepts indéfinis nous a mis dans notre situation actuelle, celle des ''Grenouilles qui voulaient un roi'' de la fable de la Fontaine...

Le refus de faire l'amalgame entre deux vocables si mal utilisés peut seul nous faire entrevoir la vérité --à l'opposé, souvent, de tout le discours ambiant, qui n'est que mensonges, lui. Pour montrer combien un concept peut en cacher un autre (ou plusieurs), et fausser des pans entiers de l'histoire du monde, un seul exemple suffira : le devenir écologique de la planète. Montesquieu, déjà, avait eu l’intuition que le climat avait une influence sur l’histoire, mais on sait maintenant, comme Jared Diamond l’a démontré dans son célèbre essai Effondrements, que plusieurs civilisations ont disparu à la suite de catastrophes écologiques : les Khmers d’Angkor, les Vikings, les Mayas… et bientôt, disent certains, nous-mêmes et la nôtre... si on a la faiblesse de croire le GIEC, l'affreuse Greta, et Macron... ce qu'il est sage et prudent de ne jamais faire...

Car chaque jour, des éruptions, des raz-de-marée, des tremblements de terre ou des incendies immenses nous font frôler un risque de chamboulement ''XXL''. Chaque jour, des espèces animales disparaissent, épuisées ou étouffées, et des forêts entières meurent, brûlées ou transformées en échangeurs auto-routiers, en ZAC ou en ZAD… Dans tous ces cas, ce sont des ''changements'' dont aucun n'est un ''progrès'', et notre intervention éventuelle se résume à la prière, à des discours incantatoires du genre ''plus jamais ça'', et à des ''marches blanches'', depuis peu. A ma connaissance, notre ''science'' (qui, dans ce cas, ne sait pas grand chose), ne peut pas prévoir avec certitude certaines catégories d’événements, ni dans leurs dates, ni dans leur dimension, ni dans les dévastations qu’ils sont susceptibles d’entraîner, hélas ! Il est arrivé, sans explication, que certains de ces changements révèlent ''progrès'', mais ce cas est loin d'être le plus fréquent..

Un exemple, d'actualité, hélas, de la relation ''trouble'' qui réunit ou sépare le changement du progrès : la guerre dépendit, plus qu’on ne le croit généralement, des progrès de la technologie aux différentes époques de l’histoire : le remplacement du bois par le cuivre, puis par le bronze, puis par le fer, puis par l’acier dans les armements a été la cause majeure du sort des batailles entre, suivant les époques, les sumériens, les égyptiens, les macédoniens, les perses, les grecs ou les romains, ce qui a dessiné la carte du monde antique et, au-delà, du nôtre… Cette remarque a continué à se vérifier, pour notre malheur, dans les temps modernes, où les piqués des ''Stukas'' de Goering et les ruées des chars Panthers II de Guderian ont vite écrabouillé l’Armée française, moins bien préparée, technologiquement, et dépendant, elle, des ''40 heures'' et des ''congés payés''.

La même constatation s'est appliquée, à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale, à la rupture que fut la première bombe ''atomique'' larguée par la Forteresse Volante B-29 ''Enola Gay'' sur Hiroshima : par une immense ironie du destin, une violence technologique absolue s’avérait être le chemin le plus rapide vers la Paix, ce qui pose la question : ces changements techniques furent-ils autant de progrès ? En tout cas, il est indéniable que la géographie politique du monde actuel est bel et bien un reflet de ces divers ''changements'' dont certains devinrent des ''progrès'' : bien des crises actuelles trouvent là leur origine (cf. le respect convenu –sans raison réelle-- des frontières de '45).

Le changement, qu’on le veuille ou non, s’est donc imposé comme un facteur fondamental de l’évolution de la société, et par conséquent, des rapports de l’Homme avec son environnement, avec son présent et, donc son devenir dont il est à la fois le signe –la vie et la mort n’ont d’autre facteur séparateur que le changement, et non le progrès !– et la preuve, une évolution n’existant que s’il y a présence de changements ! Un changement est perceptible dès lors qu’il se manifeste, alors qu’un progrès peut mettre des années à devenir simplement perceptible (au hasard : la boussole -plusieurs siècles, les principes de Babbage -un siècle, ou l'intelligence artificielle -25 ans et plus).

Un ''changement'' se définit comme le passage d’un état A à un état B, sans autre conséquence que la création d’une différence perceptible, qu’elle soit positive, négative ou nulle quant à ses résultats et à ses conséquences, ou, plus simplement, comme le passage à quelque chose de différent… Au contraire, un progrès est un changement qui marque une amélioration mesurable par rapport à une situation précédente. Un changement n’engage à rien, alors qu’un progrès, comme son nom l’indique, (du latin pro-gressio = pas vers l’avant) constitue une amélioration identifiable, quel que soit le domaine dans lequel il s’est exercé.

Un exemple concret ? La perte d’un organe sensoriel spécifique (suite à un accident ou au simple vieillissement) est un changement, et non des plus drôles, annonciateur d'autres problèmes à venir... On ne peut dire en aucun cas que cela puisse être catalogué comme ''progrès''. En revanche, l’acquisition d’une orthèse –une paire de lunettes dans le cas de la vision– représente indéniablement un progrès dans le processus de vision. Si une prothèse est possible –une main artificielle, par exemple– le progrès est encore plus visible.

Une remarque connexe sur cette opposition entre Changement et Progrès, qui n’a peut-être pas directement sa place ici, mais que je ne peux m’empêcher de faire : sans doute est-ce pour cette raison que c’est devenu une habitude uniformément monomaniaque chez la plupart des hommes politiques de tous les pays que de proposer ''le changement'' comme seul programme… laissant, un peu plus tard, tous leurs électeurs profondément déçus – à tort, car s’ils attendaient des ''progrès'' là où on ne leur avait promis que le ''changement'', ils ne doivent s’en prendre qu’à eux seuls ! Cette erreur de langage permet d'expliquer le gouffre qui sépare tout discours politique (qui propose des changements) des besoins réels des populations (qui ne veulent que des progrès).

Ce mauvais usage systématique – je n’ose pas écrire ''volontaire'' – de deux concepts que l’on fait croire synonymes alors qu’ils sont antagonistes, est certainement largement responsable du désamour que nous constatons depuis quelques années pour la politique et les politiciens, la démocratie et, plus généralement, la res publica. Depuis Giscard, qui a vu (sic !) dans les yeux de la France ''un désir de changement'' (il était fortiche, le gars ! il disait, d'ailleurs, ''la Fronche'' et ''un déjir de chongemont'', ce qui est nettement mieux !), tous les candidats à l'élection présidentielle nous ont promis ''le'' (pas ''des'', ce qui serait ''moins pire'') changement. Même Obama, qui n'était pas à ça près, l'a fait ! Mais pour un ''politique'', le sens exclusif du mot changement est : ''Ote-toi de là que je m'y mette'' … et cela aide à comprendre leurs gros mensonges, devenus chez certains une seconde nature..

Résumons : d'un côté, des professionnels du flou, de l'à-peu-près et du mensonge, qui promettent ''le changement'' (dont, au fond des choses, personne ne veut : il vient déjà tout seul, plus que nécessaire !). En face, des électeurs qui croient entendre des promesses de ''progrès'' (cette sorte de Graal espéré par tous) et qui se révoltent, bonne foi contre mauvaise foi, lorsqu'ils se rendent compte qu'il a eu plein de changements (par exemple, toutes les lois ''sociétales'', perverses à en mourir, ou la sanctification d'un soi-disant ''droit à l'avortement'' qui est une redéfinition des ''principes'' relatifs à la vie et à la mort) qui sont terribles dans leurs conséquences (NDLR : c'est la dernière fois que je le dis sans courir de risques disproportionnés),. Et certains s'étonnent de cet état de fait ! N'allons pas chercher plus loin : avec le diptyque ''changement-progrès'', nous tenons une des causes majeures de nos dérives actuelles, immenses. Et de notre malheur profond...

it’s a shame their son walked down the hero route, but raz and lamishnurr have always been supportive of his choices, even if it went against their family business.

to some, knowing how criminal minds work make him an asset on investigations. one day he’d disappear from the public eye; a month later stacks of evidence on an international crime syndicate would be playing out on loop in every news outlet and digital billboard in the city. that changed the game for some big people. so now he’s really made some ugly enemies in the underground.

and if at some point, he deems someone too much of a subhuman shithead for the justice system to do fuck about it?

then they don’t exist anymore. his methods are air-tight. besides, most of the flashy villains he deals with are amateurs.

on god, he wished this dude monologuing all about how he massacred his kids and stuffed them in a fish tank was the most horrifying thing he’s heard in his day. he fucking wished.

Los mejores albums y EPs de 2023 ( III ).

Lo que dije en la anterior entrada lo podría repetir aquí, el nivel de rap español ha excedido anteriores cotas y no sólo en albums, diría que hay más EPs que albums notables, se podría hacer fácil un top 20 y algunos de ellos los metería incluso en un top 10 spanish rap en general. Yo he seleccionado 15 en español y en inglés, me he tomado la libertad de incluir albums cortos que rondan los 20 minutos de duración, últimamente algunos artistas los sacan bajo ese formato y la barrera entre estos y el EP es más fina que nunca, como puede ser el de Dellafuente, que incluso hizo consulta popular sobre el tema en sus redes.

Al igual que el año pasado, he vuelto a preguntar a DJs, nerds, divulgadores, músicos y demás gente de buen paladar y gusto contrastado por sus trabajos favoritos, así que se os abren varias y diversas puertas más para descubrir buenas músicas, ver listas en internet también es diggin'. Aquí termina mi repaso a lo mejor del año, Feliz Navidad y no dejéis que os cuenten la versión trucha de la movida. Quality Control siempre.

1. James Fauntleroy & Terrace Martin - Nova

6 años después de su último trabajo, el EP Dojo, vuelve uno de los GOATs y a la vez uno de los enigmas del R&B, el huidizo hitmaker detrás de tus cantantes favoritos, multi Grammy winner etc, googlea a este cabrón. En la producción está el bueno de Terrace que ha estado inmerso en un run memorable y el trabajo está muy en la línea de la anterior colaboración entre los 2 en Fine Tune, estas 6 canciones son una relectura de bossa nova con jazz y R&B marca Crenshaw como ya se podía intuir en ese poco agraciado artwork y en el propio título. Una jodida delicia.

2. Monroe Flow & DVME - The Players Retreat

De los 5 trabajos que ha sacado este 2023 me quedo con este que fue el primero aunque os recomiendo escucharlos todos. 8 temas que son todo bangers, sonido Bay Area perfecto para bumpear. Es uno de los protegidos de Larry June ( para mí este año ha superado al maestro ) y su sello The FreeMinded así ya sabéis lo que hay, melódico y duro, produs riquísimas. Muy disfrutón.

3. Sabio Sport & mb Casablanca - Marina Grande

Tras el EP Port Vauban, lanzado en 2022, volvió la dupla con otros 7 temas para poner la banda sonora a lo que quedaba de verano. Yatch rap que rebosa musicalidad y gusto fino, esta vez dando un paso adelante en la propuesta, contando con arreglos y canciones completamente tocadas por banda como 'Stella' y 'French Blue' sin perder la esencia de samples wavy. Huele a mediterráneo, para montarse y no bajar, este dúo ha logrado crear un sonido único en España y se espera con ganas el salto al formato largo para completar la trilogía.

4. Cashus King & Blu - The Blu(e) Tape

Que pena que dure sólo 13 minutos porque tiene algunos beats bastante guapos a cargo del para mí desconocido CinemaTaGraffiti y la química entre los rappers es increíble, se nota que son colegas de siempre. Funciona como un tiro front to back y no os perdáis el bonus 'Anghellic Book 777', de los mejores temas del año.

5. Nicholas Craven, Raz Fresco & Estee Nack - Gia...À La Carte

El beatmaker de Montreal se deja aquí toda la grasa soulera y se lo pone en bandeja a los rappers que no dejan ni las sobras. 'Whirlwind' es insana, that raw shit y 'Born King' bien podría ser el posse cut del año. Una barbaridad de principio a fin, en mi top 3 del Cravenverso. Clase.

6. Carmona & Zekie - Plátanos De Sombra

Nadie esperaba algo de ellos y menos aún este junte. 22 minutos de rap super chill e introspectivo en el que Zekie se saca un sonido más pulido y mejorado y Carmona se abre volcando todas sus inquietudes, vivencias y lúcidas reflexiones. 'Pies De Laberinto' o 'Cefaleas' con su cambio de beat son algunos de los highlights . 2 veteranos trayéndolo fresco, grown man rap, queremos más de esta dupla.

7. JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES: DLC PACK

Menos abrasivo, más cálido y soulful que el album, abriendo el abanico hasta unos puntos insospechables. Peggy es un digger de primera y lo que hace en 'Hermanos' es precioso, ha puesto a los music nerds de yankilandia a buscar un bolero de Hugo Enríquez ( Ecuador stand up ) y lo que hace con la outro es una locura, on some Kanye shit.

8. Johnny Doc & Allan Parrish - Expectedly Unexpected

Me gusta como encaja temas más soulful con otros más duros/trap, en la outro de 'JuJu' convergen ambos sonidos y te deja con ganas de que el tema se hubiese alargado por ahí. Buen ejercicio de estilo y curaduría. Gran año el del rapper valenciano, podría haber metido aquí también el Eight Ballers junto a Da Basement pero preferí dejar sitio a otros.

9. Dellafuente - Lágrimas Pa Otro Día

Dellafuente es en cierta manera nuestro Frank Ocean: tiene una multitudinaria fanbase de auténticos pesados y teenagers intensos, da pocos conciertos, se gusta demasiado haciéndose el enigmático y el exclusivo....pero el cabrón es muy bueno haciendo música. Que listo ha sido al juntarse con artistas emergentes de la new wave española como Ralphie Choo y Rusowsky para producir este trabajo, le han llevado a un terreno más luminoso y pop que antes no había explorado, con incursión en ritmos latinos y folklóricos ( ahora se entiende mejor que nunca su eslogan ). 5 de los 8 tracks de este album corto de 20 minutos están firmados por ellos entre tantos otros, fruto del music camp en el que también estuvo el mexicano Vatocholo y su inseparable Antonio Narváez. Algunas canciones tienen encima 6 manos distintas. Un corrido por aquí ( 'Ni Soy Santo') una bossa nova por allá ( magnífica 'Cuando La Cosa No Funciona' ) sin dejar de lado los lugares comunes de su obra como el cierre 'Pa Llorar' llena de rumba y flamenco. Algo así como su respuesta a El Madrileño, un "sujétame el cubata que yo también lo puedo hacer", de hecho él lo lleva haciendo más tiempo pero nunca lo vendió como tal. Es lo más festivalero y festivo que ha sacado y la primera vez que su rostro aparece en el artwork, sonriendo además.

Se nota que está probando cosas, ampliando catálogo e intentando mostrar ser versátil. Y por ello hay aciertos, como 'El Camino', pero también hay fallos, como la mencionada anteriormente 'Ni Soy Santo' que no me termina de cuajar o el exceso modernito de la lánguida 'Carameloraro'. Se agradece que explore nuevas rutas y salga de su zona de comfort, es lo que un artista debe hacer, más aún cuando ha lanzado tanto material y se encuentra en el momento de carrera en el que está el granadino. El bolero que es la maravillosa 'Sharila' demuestra que cuando se pone es el mejor de España escribiendo canciones de amor y 'Algarabia' es ya otro de esos grandes singles de su catálogo que no está incluido en ningún trabajo, me gustó mucho ese toque dance medio oscuro y entiendo que no encaje aquí. Si bien su anterior EP Tanteo no me terminó de triunfar porque lo vi más de lo mismo y no tan acertado como otras veces, esta nueva entrega si que es más satisfactoria, dando salida a un puñado de buenas canciones fresquitas que pusieron banda sonora a nuestra primavera y a los meses de verano. Aunque su fanbase sea la más devota y cansina del país me tengo que poner Dellafuenter para reafirmar lo que llevo pensando los últimos años: estamos viviendo en directo los pasos de una leyenda de la música española. A seguir.

10. No Guidnce - Is It A Crime? / Spicy

El R&B de UK sigue en un estado de forma increíble. Si el año pasado nos presentaron a Flo este 2023 han despegado estos 4 pibitos con 8 canciones muy disfrutonas y cuidadas desde la producción repartidas en 2 EP's. Los singles homónimos son 2 himnos, teniendo en cuenta que es lo primero que sacan habrá que seguirles la pista. Parece que vuelven las boy/girl band.

11. New Jeans - Get Up

Solo hay un divulgador de rap que además te descubra grupos de K-Pop con canciones muy pegadizas que se acercan al R&B-UKG, que suenan del carajo con influencias 2 Step y jersey club y que tienen una hit que se llama ETA. Soy yo.

12. Juicy BAE & PMP - Antes De Conocerte (Parte 1: Premonición)

Uno de los trabajos mejor producidos del año en Spain, PMP lo volvió a hacer y consigue que la sevillana brille de nuevo gracias a las armonías, los tratamientos vocales y una armadura sonora muy potente. 'DAMN' es el banger.

13. LeBleu, Johnny Doc & Rapp Gotti - Blue Magic

Un junte idóneo el de estos 3, te deja con ganas de más, los estilos de los rappers se complementan muy bien. Mapa sonoro que remite a OST de peli 70s de Blaxploitation. El back and forth de 'Uncut Raw' es un arte perdido en esta rap shit y el artwork a cargo de Le Bleu es brutal, os recomiendo seguir su curro de diseño en Instagram.

14. Smoke DZA & Flying Lotus - Flying Objects

Ya iba tocando ver a Flying Lotus producirle a un rapper ( 2018-Mac Miller, 2019-Danny Brown, un tema a ambos ). A Smoke DZA le perdí la pista en los mid 2010s pero el tío no ha parado al igual que Young Roddy y Trademark Da SkyDiver, no da tiempo a seguirlo todo, pero esta gente ama rapear y sigue dándole duro. Colabos de Conway, Black Thought y, ojo, Estelle ( si, la de American Boy ). Te deja con ganas de album.

15. Kinix Ahau & Stxners Music - SPIT NOW, SPEAK LATER

Al escuchar el primer track pensaba que iba a ser más left field pero no tira tanto por ahi. 7 tracks en 15 minutos, entra bien y te deja servido y satisfecho de buena rap shit. Esta gente es de morro fino y hay que seguirles la pista. Classy.

Lo primero gracias a Doc Jota por la invitación para hacer un top 10 internacional de este año 2023. He de decir que Doc me invitó a hacer un top nacional 2023 y me negué por varias razones, pero la principal es que no creo que sea objetivo y mi labor en España se centra en crear música, no en valorarla. Aun así, diré que me ha parecido un buen ejercicio musical a nivel nacional en el que, para mi gusto, cada vez nos acercamos más a los estándares de calidad internacionales. Creo que cada vez hay más público y más visión y eso resulta prometedor. Resalto el buen año de Canarias y el buen estado de forma general de los artistas. Sin enrollarme mucho, os dejo aquí mi top 10 completamente sesgado por mis gustos. Muchos de ellos, más que buenos discos, me parecen representativos de cosas interesantes que están pasando en el mundo. Me dejo casi todas fuera con rabia e intentando representar países y géneros más allá de lo típico. Los números no son un ranking, es una lista. Aquí van:

1. Varnish La Piscine - This Lake Is Successful

El suizo del colectivo Súper Wak me ha impresionado con este EP súper bien cuidado. No controlo francés a un nivel heavy pero desprende estilo, groove y storytelling a un nivel muy tocho. Desde la intro me ha dejado muy loco y creo que es mi recomendación menos esperada pero que creo que va a rentar darle al play. Su disco anterior no tiene desperdicio.

2. KAYTRAMINÉ - KAYTRAMINE

No creo que vaya a decir nada que no se haya dicho ya de este disco, pero creo que un top 2023 sin el sería un poco raro. Aminé on steroids y Kaytra haciendo lo suyo en un disco para bailar que ha hecho clic a muchísima gente. London backyard party vibes es cómo lo imagino en mi cabeza. Resalto el cacho de Amaraae en ‘Sossaup’. No le veo ninguna pega, para mi es un 10.

3. Tuerie - Papillon Monarque

Descubrí a Tuerie en uno de mis viajes a Toulouse para grabar mi último disco. Mi colega Dax Santos siempre me pone al día de lo que pasa según aterrizo. La intro de su anterior disco, Bleu Gospel, ya me dejó lo suficientemente loco como para no perderle la pista. En este último, Papillon Monarque, que sale por Foufone Palace Bonjour no me ha dejado indiferente. En la estela de la familia musical de Luidji, temas muy musicales y duros a partes iguales, flows muy Kendrick y mucho sentimiento. Los vídeos son espectaculares y la presentación exquisita. De mis artistas favoritos de momento sin duda.

4. Killer Mike - MICHAEL

Creo que el 2023 ha sido un año de culminación para la carrera de Killer Mike. Siempre ha rapeado espectacularmente bien y además resalto su labor como figura pública más allá del hip hop. Lo que se ha marcado a nivel mensaje, flows, arreglos, colaboraciones, a nivel visual y humano en MIKE es una pasada. Viniendo de la Dungeon Family, el de ATL tiene un pedigree que ya lo quisieran muchos ya de por si. Me quedo con el conjunto de todo, la portada y el ejercicio de apertura a nivel emocional que admiro en él como artista.

5. Bishop Snow - Gangsta's Paradise

En la costa oeste siempre se ha tenido una identidad muy marcada y un sonido que te engancha al segundo, pero siempre he tenido la sensación de que tristemente muchos artistas no llegan a petarlo muchísimo a nivel mundial más allá de nombres aislados. Bien, parece que el 2023 ha cambiado eso o esa es la sensación que tengo. Nombres como Larry June, Blxst, Jay Worthy, Kamaiyah y un largo etc han pegado un buen testarazo en la mesa y no paran de salir pepinos. Uno de los nombres de la West que ha salido en estos dos últimos años de la nada es Bishop Snow. El MC Blackxican lleva dos años rapeando en serio y dejando su vida turbulenta atrás y este último álbum es una buena culminación de lo que viene haciendo en cuanto a referencias. La elección de beats es brutal, los rapeos cada vez mejores y las melodías como tu ex novia: no se te van de la cabeza. Pongo este título con expectación de que va a ocurrir y como representante de un sonido brutal del que no se por quién o por qué decidirme.

6. Hitboy - Surf Or Drown Vol.2

Qué decir de Hitboy que no digan sus créditos. Me llama la atención cómo en su aparentemente humilde estudio comparado a las megaconstrucciones en las que parece que a veces se tienen que grabar los discos, este señor no para de sacar palos. Increíble lo que está haciendo con su padre Big Hit, uno de mis raperos preferidos últimamente contra todo pronóstico. Echo de menos a Nip musicalmente y lo que estaba haciendo. Hitboy es un as en todo lo que hace y aunque sus discos parezcan un poco recopilatorios de temas, personalmente me gana y además meter tus beats en tu disco en plan “ahora hazlo tú” me parece el ultImate flex. Gracias y por muchos años más Hitboy.

7 Ragz Originale - Bare Sugar

Oliver Kei me pasó esto y me dejó loco desde el segundo 1. Resulta que este señor es el productor de Skepta y FKA twigs. No soy demasiado conocedor de la escena británica, pero creo que Ragz es un buen ejemplo de que UK en la música urbana es Dominance. Rnb brutal y si no te apetece escucharte el disco, que deberías, mírate lo que hizo en COLORS con el tema Troublin.

8. Lyrivelli - The Feeling

No se si meter a Lyrivelli en un top o en una lista de artistas a los que no deberías perder de vista, pero allá va. El artista de origen dominicano del sello All Money In me ha dejado muy contento de que artistas de origen hispano estén haciendo vainas a este nivel. La intro dedicada a su hija es una pasada y aprovechando que ahora hay contenido en español sobre estos álbumes, invito a todo el mundo a ver el análisis de Don't Hate The Playa que hicieron porque está currado.

9. Amaarae - Fountain Baby

Seamos sinceros: no puede haber un top internacional sin mencionar la explosión del afrobeats a nivel mundial. Es la dominancia personificada y yo sinceramente no manejo lo suficiente para poner ningún top acerca de esto ni a recomendar ningún disco de Amapiano ni nada por el estilo. Esta entrada en este top es más una reivindicación que un ranking. Artistas como Naira Marley, Zinoleesky, Burna Boy e incluso nombres como en España PLM merecen ser escuchados y estudiados como nuestra generación estudió a USA o la nueva estudia a PR y en género urbano en español. Pongo este disco porque es una guapada y me apetecía meter algo que hiciera que la gente se interesase por África a nivel musical.

10. NAFTA - NAFTA II

Por qué no meter un grupo en español en un top internacional si el español es una lengua que hablan 500 millones de seres humanos. Este disco me lo pasó Adri Dela de DHTP y me gustó muchísimo. Me parece distinto, muy bien ornamentado y creo que encarna la manera de los argentinos de hacer las cosas bien. Me quedo con el tema de 'A Mi Lado'.

LaRussell es uno de los artistas independientes que he descubierto este año y que realmente está causando sensación en la escena de LA. Su sonido y sus letras vulnerables, combinadas con mucha actitud y autenticidad, junto con las instrumentales que elige, hacen que sus proyectos sean dignos de ser escuchados.

Cleo Sol - Heaven

Hace años que conozco a Cleo Sol; su voz aterciopelada y las instrumentales suaves me acompañan en cualquier momento del día. A nivel de composición y mensaje, el álbum "Heaven" es uno de mis favoritos, y sin duda, su vulnerabilidad como madre ha acentuado su creatividad como artista.

Naomi Sharon - Obsidian

Naomi Sharon es una joya en bruto. Su música es atemporal y me recuerda mucho al aura que desprende Sade, elegante y moderna a la vez. "Obsidian" no tiene pérdida, y "Definition of Love" es la joya de la corona.

Elmiene - Marking My Time

'Marking My Time' fue la primera canción que conocí de Elmiene. A pesar de tener poca trayectoria musical, su mensaje, el R&B moderno mezclado con su estética, hacen que sea una joven promesa en la escena de LA. Este EP ha estado en repetición desde que salió. Imprescindible.

NAFTA - NAFTA II

Para mí, no podía faltar Nafta con su nuevo álbum. El funk, el groove, el soul que tienen me transporta a las bandas de los años 70 y 80 fácilmente. Su música sazona cualquier velada, y las líneas de bajo siguen siendo increíbles.

Jordan Ward - MOREWARD (FORWARD)

Si te gusta "Soulection", habrás oído hablar de Jordan Ward. Su Neo-Soul minimalista con melodías y armonías totalmente impredecibles, y las instrumentales perfectamente creadas, te llevan a un viaje sonoro único. Sin duda, una gran promesa para el futuro.

Noname - Sundial

Noname no deja de sorprenderme. Sus letras reivindicativas, su manera deliberada de rapear y las composiciones me llevan a conectar con una joven Lauryn Hill dispuesta a comerse el mundo. La sigo desde que se llamaba "Noname Gypsy" y sigue siendo una de mis grandes referentes.

Uncle Waffles - Asylum

En la nueva ola de música Afro y Amapiano, Uncle Waffles se lleva uno de los grandes premios por mi parte. La progresión electrónica de sus instrumentales hace que entres en trance y te energiza. Si le sumas la peculiaridad de su imagen, es indiscutiblemente una nueva referencia en el Amapiano.

B.Cool-Aid - Leather Blvd

No dejo de escuchar a Pink Siifu desde que lo conocí musicalmente. Si te gustan los clásicos de rap alternativo, old-school y Neo-Soul, él es el hombre. Pongo mucha fe en su creación y en su arte.

Kali Uchis - Red Moon In Venus

Es indiscutible la ejecución del nuevo trabajo de Kali Uchis, atemporal, comercial y aún así con toques alternativos. Sin duda, fue uno de los discos que más marcó mi 2023.

One of my favorite things from the Sonic 2 movie (that I haven’t seen anyone talk about yet) is

(mild spoiler below cut)

THE WAY TOM JUST. okay. so. You know that scene where he is trying to play volleyball with the other guys and gets pummeled and is just generally the guy on the outside looking in at the others being all chummy?

You know how those scenes usually go in movies? The guy getting pummeled usually gets all “I’mma get ’em back” or huffy or something.

But Tom? No. His first thought at seeing the squad all congratulating each other is “I wish my son had a friend group of his own.” I really liked that. It really shows what a Dad he is, good for him. ALSO I just wanna point out how Relationship Goals Tom and Maddie (Maddy?) are! They are so cute and sweet and good for each other. I mean, we saw that already in the first film, but man do I love healthy relationships being portrayed in media. Love them.

I love how the Sonic movies, while not taking away time from the title character and the original Sonic gang, can create genuinely good secondary characters that each get their own moment (hah!) to really shine through.

Wildest Dreams - In the Death of the Night

Masterlist

After turning 10 and losing her soulmate, Marinette would imagine how Damian Wayne would be.

Would he be tall or short? Did he have blond hair or brown or did he dyed it? Would he be shy or have a bold personality? Perhaps he was an artistic soul, a poet, a writer? Or would he be a baker like her parents? Why did his last name change?

The wonders and questions took over her mind for days with no end.

On good days, she imagined how he would interact with her friends, how her parents would take him in as their own son, how he would fit into her life.

She liked to talk to him, pretending there, alive, with her. She asked his opinion on what to wear, how she should do her hair, what colors with go well with the design. He was her voice of reason. Talking to "Damian" brought a smile to her face, even when she knew she was deluding herself.

On bad days, she pretended he was right there with her, comforting her, encouraging her, whispering that everything would be alright... Sometimes it worked and she felt better the next days but most times she felt bitter, she felt robbed of a future where he was in her life.

The realization that the person she was supposed to share her soul with was no longer alive, that his death was painful, gruesome, and... lonely... It always ended with her taking a few days to prevent a breakdown...

When she turned 13, Hawkmoth appeared and Marinette became Ladybug, the hero of Paris.

Soon after, Marinette stopped talking with "Damian", she couldn't afford to wonder about him anymore. She couldn't afford the bliss of her own delusions. She couldn't afford to let herself grief and fall pray to Hawkmoth's manipulation.

As she couldn't fail Paris and its citizens, Damian Wayne mostly disappeared from her life.

But there were days when her “friends” demanded a lot from her, akumas were too violent and draining and everything was just too much, those the godawful days.

On godawful days she wished Damian was there to take her away to a place she could feel she belonged. Away from everything to a place she could call a home.

Most nights Damian recalls a voice talking to him during the time he was dead.

His soulmate, he supposed, talked to him regularly, she started her day asking his opinion on her outfit for the day, when at home she would tell him how her day went, what she did with her friends, what she learned in class, etc...

At first, Damian was pretty much annoyed that he couldn't "rest in peace" with all the noise pollution but after a few weeks, he slowly started to tolerate her talking to him.

Unfortunately, he couldn't talk to her nor see her very clearly so it was a pleasant surprise when Marinette would ask his opinion to make a decision, she always picked what he chooses.

Perhaps it was their bond that allowed her to know what he was thinking without actually hearing each other's thoughts. Or maybe they were more in sync with one another. Most likely it was pure luck on her part. (Him being dead is enough proof of how bad his luck was.)

In the months he was dead, Damian learned a grand lot Marinette. He liked how she made him feel he wasn't alone, like how her voice calmed him when he remembered the family he left behind in his death. Marinette was his only lighthouse in the vast void of the afterlife

Impotent, despair, and hopeless.

That's how Damian felt every time Marinette had to relive his death. He hated it so much. She didn't deserve that and it broke his heart every damn time.

Why did he have to die? Why did it have to be in such a painful way? Why did she have to feel it on repeat over and over and over again? Was it a twisted way the universe tried to make them reunited? If they can't find each other in life, then they can be together in death? That isn't right!

But it always hurts more when she wakes up and talks to him. Wondering if he was happy and in peace, in wherever place he ended up.

He was there but she didn't know.

He felt sick.

After being revived, Damian felt an immense sense of loss. Sure, he was kinda happy to reunite with his family and grateful for being alive again, but he missed her.

It was difficult to readjust to being alive again, it was crystal clear that Damian Wayne wasn't okay. What hurts him the most was how her name turned into a scar on his wrist.

During the day paranoia settled in making him always on high alert, lashing out when it got too much for him.

In the night, he couldn't sleep properly as a feeling of unease latched onto his every nerve and when he did sleep, nightmares plagued him.

Damian tried to calm down in various ways, but ultimately it was Marinette's voice that soothed him and lulled him to sleep.

It quickly became a habit to replay their one-sided conversations as he tries to fall asleep.

He went over what Marinette Dupain-Cheng spoke to him time and time again as to engrave her voice in his mind. Unfortunately, her voice was fading away, every time he recalled it, he hear his own voice.

At least some memories remained, which was relieving for Damian, even when important ones like what language she spoke or the name of her school were completely wiped out.

He never told his family his experience while he was dead, he guesses Jason was the most likely to know about it but he never brought it up to anyone, so Damian did the same.

Now he was lying in bed, remembering about the time Marinette tried embroidery for the first time.

She started by searching up what she wanted it to be and after much talking, she chose a Robin, Damian smile at the eagerness he felt for her to chose it. It was a fun day, with her making comments here and there about the work, he wishes he could see it.

A knock woke him up of his thoughts, Alfred emerging from the door.

"Master Damian, I'm here to inform you a guest will be joining us for tomorrow's dinner."

"Whose guest?" He didn't really feel like dealing with new people.

"It's Master Jason's guest."

Damian groans, perhaps he could go visit Kent.

"It would be in your best interest to participate, Master Damian." Alfred gave him a look.

He sighed, definitely can't miss tomorrow or he'll have to face Pennyworth.

So, I've written another chapter while listening to a sad song on repeat :') I know it doesn’t really connect to the last chapter but I wasn’t feeling okay and didn’t know how to continue from where I left off.
