Nur and Long argue.
Long: I'm my moms favorite! the proof they asked the dragons to create me.
Nur: No it's me, I was chosen! You they have to support you now!
Long: they wanted me because you were only the failed draft!
Raya who hears them bickering intervenes.
Raya: What's going on kids? I hear you screaming, you're not arguing.
Long rushing over to Raya and burying her face in her dhoti.
Long: Nur is mean she says you didn't want me!
Raya: Nuuur!
Nur: What, but you're a liar, Má Long says you don't like me and he's your favorite.
Raya: What-.
Long: Má am I your favorite?
Raya: Okay, that's what it was all about... raya breaths while massaging her temples.
Raya: Children you want to know who is our favorite child to Ma and me?
Both: Yeeees
Raya : follow me.
Raya takes them to their room and takes a box.
Raya: I have placed inside this box a picture of our favorite child
The two children look and see a mirror...the two look at each other and blush understanding what Raya wants to tell them, the two reconcile.

Mistletoe (a short Rayamaari Drabble)
Rated G-T, silliness and Benja wanting his daughter to admit her feelings about Namaari. COFFEE SHOP AU. (Modern)
“Dad- seriously?”
Benja smirked, looking back at his daughter standing a few good steps away. Arms crossed, looking far too much like her Mother when they were her age. Add a light tap of her foot and she was the splitting image of her.
However, there was no time for foot tapping when she was stomping her way over to him. Ready to pull down the “last minute” decoration he had added to their coffee shop. Matching the red and green shimmery tinsel they hung along the walls.
“Dad- I told you no mistletoe!” She groaned, immediately reaching for the tiny decor. Missing it as her Father playfully pushed her back, “we don’t need customers kissing in here-!”
“Oh come on now, dewdrop-“ he chirped, “it’s tradition!”
Raya rolled her eyes, “I don’t remember you putting this up last year-“
“It’s a new tradition!” He laughed, “and it’s not like the customers will be behind the counter anyways-“
“That is not the point-“
“I moved it from the front door like you asked-?”
“I asked you to take it down, not move it to the employee door-“
“Fine..” Benja sighed, raising his hands in mock defeat, “take it down if you must-“
Raya gave him a confused look, clearly a bit curious how her own Ba had suddenly given up on arguing with her so soon. Knowing they both bumped heads on little things like this for hours at a time. That is until she approached the doorway and he quickly snatched the stool away from her before she could use it to reach the offending mistletoe. Too high for her to reach, yet low enough that it would annoy the absolute crap out of her.
“DAD-?!” Raya groaned again, jumping then to reach it.
Distracted, too focused on the obstacle.
Just as he wanted.
“What?” He smirked, “too short, dewdrop?”
“I’m-…ha….taller..than you!” She snapped, pausing in between jumps. “God you’re being such a-“
“You two fighting again?” A third voice joined in, almost a bit too perfectly timed, belonging to their employee- Namaari, as she came through the employee door carefully around Raya.
The woman, hardly a year older than Raya, hearing his daughter’s distress and wanting to come help. As usual. Just as Benja planned.
“She’s trying to take down my decorations-“ Benja moped, forcing a fake frown.
Namaari gave him a sympathetic look, while his daughter gave him a grumpy one.
“Dad- it’s inappropriate for a work space..” Raya grumbled, trying then to reach by standing on her tippy toes.
“I said you could take it down-“ he sighed, dramatically.
And on cue- Namaari stepped forward.
“Here, Raya- I’ll help.” She offered, trying to reach for it as well. The pair moving directly under the door frame where the mistletoe was hanging.
Benja waited until her fingertips had just barely taken ahold of the leaves, pulling it down with a single hop up, before he spoke.
“Fine- it’s down.” He said, “however, as the rules of Christmas state- you both have a duty to fulfill-“
Both women turned, looking confused. Namaari’s arm hilariously still suspended in the air with the mistletoe in hand. Clearly not understanding, so Benja had to spell it out for them.
“You both are under the mistletoe-“ he teased, “therefore you must kiss!”
Still, even as he said this, it took Raya a moment to catch up with what her Father was saying. Namaari got it immediately, her hand dropping down as her face flushed red. Looking from Raya to the floor, waiting for her reaction silently. His daughter’s far more explosive than that of his employee’s when she did connect the dots.
Cheeks red, eyebrows furrowed.
“DAD- seriously?!” She yelled, embarrassed now.
Benja waved his hand at her, turning on his heels.
“I’ll look away.” He joked as he turned around, “better get to it or that’s seven years bad luck!”
“That’s the wrong holiday.” was Raya’s response, followed by the door swinging open and then closed as she went to throw away the mistletoe in the back.
The moment passing far too soon as they both were quick to get back to work. Neither of them kissing, which Benja knew wouldn’t happen, but another victory in his eyes as he saw the two of them working closer now than they had before as the morning dragged on. His daughter’s eyes locked onto Namaari whenever there was a moment to spare, Namaari’s blush increasingly more noticeable every time she saw Raya smile.
Both of them caught feelings months ago, back when Benja first hired Namaari to assist them at their family coffee shop. It was obvious, his daughter hardly subtle with how she practically tripped over her own feet just to work alongside Namaari whenever she could. Namaari no better as she too showed an interest in her.
The pair of them were just so-….oblivious. Needing a bit of a push to get them going in small silly moments like Benja had done today. Hoping this got them to the point of finally dating, maybe even for Christmas!
Benja could only hope.
This was, in fact, the holiday where miracles happen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Closing up shop was far easier now that they had Namaari. Raya’s Dad couldn’t do the long hours anymore, not with his leg acting up and his age showing more. He often went home by 3 p.m, leaving the coffee shop to Raya and Namaari until they closed at 7. Easily the best part of Raya’s day as the evening significantly slowed down their customer count and they only had a few loyals popping in from time to time, leaving plenty of time to clean up early.
And talk.
They always did a lot of talking.
Hanging out, getting to know one another over the past few months. Leading Raya to develop feelings for their new employee. Which her Dad clearly picked up on since he was trying desperately to get them together. Much to her embarrassment.
The latest scheme the whole mistletoe fiasco, which had Raya spending most of her afternoon taking down the ones her Father had planted all over the shop.
Twenty of them, which were somehow managing to always be above Raya and Namaari at the perfect time. Her Father pointing it out playfully, even as he was walking out the door for home.
God-…he could be so embarassing…
Raya assumed she had them all by closing time as she checked all over the coffee shop for random mistletoe that was taped up on doorframes and windows and even on the dishwasher. The last being the back door where Namaari and her took the trash to the dumpster on the way out, locking up for the night, the pair walking up the alleyway to the Main Street.
“Sorry about-…all that..” Raya awkwardly mentioned, feeling her entire face heat up as Namaari watched her. “He just likes to joke way too much-“ she added, grumbling.
“It’s all good fun.” Namaari said, laughing, making Raya feel worlds better then, “my Moms the same way, always trying to set me up on a date.”
Raya nodded, putting her hands inside her pockets as the cold hit them with a mighty force of wind. Frozen down to her bones, dreading the walk home.
“Well- at least I got all of them.” She mentioned, meaning the mistletoes, “so-“
“Oh,” Namaari suddenly said, looking at Raya’s back as she cut her off. “Actually it looks like you forgot one.”
Raya paused, confused.
“What?”
Namaari chuckled, reaching then to Raya’s back. She felt something unstick itself from her back and when Namaari brought it forward, Raya saw that she indeed had missed one. A mistletoe had been taped to her coat, right on her back.
She took one look at the mistletoe and groaned, angrily.
“Dad…” she cursed, practically seeing his mischievous smile then as he hid this final mistletoe on her coat before she left. A simple trick, knowing she wouldn’t think to check her belongings for it.
Namaari smirked, twisting it in her fingertips.
“He’s committed…” she mentioned.
“Yeah committed to drive me insane..” Raya scoffed, reaching then to take the mistletoe from her.
Namaari relinquished it to her with ease, the pair watching it now as it sat in Raya’s hand. Silence enveloped them, the only noise being that of the wind blowing through them. Then Raya’s eyes lifted and she found Namaari was watching her, soft eyes focused on her own. A moment arising, realizing then how close they had stepped to one another. Heat lifting from her, neither quite so cold as they once were.
Namaari was the first to speak, smooth as ever.
“So it’s bad luck not to, huh?”
Raya scoffed playfully, “wrong holiday..”
Namaari shrugged.
“Do you wanna take that chance?”
Raya didn’t say anything to that, letting the words wash over her for a moment before she leaned forward and pressed her lips against Namaari’s. Soft, easy enough, before she moved back. Her heart racing as she saw Namaari’s face, a bit surprised- maybe caught off guard by the fact Raya actually had just done that; before a relieved sigh escaped her and she smiled.
“I’ve been wanting to do that..” she mentioned, tucking back her hair behind her ear, “for awhile.”
Raya pressed her lips together, trying to downplay how happy she felt in the moment.
“Well-…we did just stand under it like…twenty times today…” she pointed out, “should we-“
Namaari cut her off with another kiss, seeing what she was asking and accepting the offer before the words could even come out of her mouth. Raya smiled into the kiss then, wrapping her arms around her while Namaari her closer by wrapping her own arms around her waist.
The joy between them immense at this Christmas miracle.
Hello, @miabellaholtz! Sorry this took so long but I hope you enjoy!
Protecting you
Rayamaari - RATLD
Rated: T
Ao3
They’ve been doing this for months now. Sneaking around, careful to not get caught. Fortunate but also concerning how the palace guards have yet to notice a pirate sneaking into the castle every week or so.
At least the princess was able to protect herself—not that she needed to with this 'intruder'. In fact, she often lets her guard down when the pirate is with her, and her pants.
However, it seemed their luck ran out.
Namaari hadn’t seen Raya for almost a month now but she didn’t worry—too much—because the seas were rough this time of year, so she figured Raya’s ship and crew needed her.
Their relationship is strange, seeing each other but not officially, saying they love the other but then pretending there was nothing happening, having sex but not talking about what they were. So, Namaari thought it silly to worry, they technically weren’t committed to each other, and none of them ever said anything or asked. Well, Namaari brought it up once while drunk but she didn’t count Raya’s answer as truthful because she didn’t quite trust her memory.
Besides, what really could have gone wrong?
Namaari was right, the seas were harsh and the Sisudatu needed its captain, but nothing wrong happened there. What really went wrong didn’t even happen until Raya was on land, in the castle—or on the castle.
Namaari was enjoying dinner with her mother, the Queen, when she heard heavy footsteps and the sound of someone straining. The heavy footsteps were obviously caused by the heavy armor of the guards but the straining—that sounded so familiar, Namaari knew who it was, but it couldn’t be. Could it?
Namaari stood, curious and worried, ignoring the awful gut feeling and her mother’s voice as she walked over to the sound. Outside the dining hall is where she finds the guards and the exact person she was hoping to see, but never like this.
“Raya?” Namaari couldn’t stop herself from saying, the woman in question twisting her head to look behind her, the guards also turning—both of them having a tight hold on Raya’s biceps, her hands tied behind her back.
“Namaari…”
“Your Highness,” one of the guards greets her, both of them bowing their heads in respect.
“What are you doing?” She glances between the guards, holding back her anger and fear.
“We found this pirate climbing the walls of the castle, heading straight towards your room, Princess Namaari.”
Raya looks at Namaari with a look that is both ashamed and worried but she doesn't say anything, and Namaari doesn’t like it one bit, knowing that Raya knows she’ll be convinced and sentenced to death.
“Release her.” The princess demands.
The guards hesitate, confused. “Are you sure, your Highness? She’s a pirate.”
“I said, release her. Now.”
They reluctantly obey, letting go of their grip on Raya but she doesn’t move, not wanting to have the guards jump on her again if she makes any advances toward Namaari. Namaari, understanding this, walks forward and gently grabs her bicep. She pulls her closer to her before removing the binds around her hands, discarding the rope as she starts to lead Raya away.
“Don’t tell my mother about this.” She orders the guards right before turning around and freezing in her spot.
“Don’t tell me about what, morning mist?”
Standing right in front of them is the woman in question.
“Mother-.”
“Who is this?”
Namaari doesn’t speak, looking at her mother as if she was a child who just got caught stealing sweets before dinner.
“Do you know this pirate?”
“I- uh,” Namaari stutters, "yes, I do-."
Her hand absentmindedly grabs onto Raya's, squeezing tightly. Unintentionally giving away exactly what was going on between them.
Virana glances between the two of them and their joint hands, expression unreadable as always.
"Care to explain what is going on?" The queen asks even though she probably already knew the situation.
Despite the question being directed towards Namaari, one of the guards behind her decided to answer. “We found the pirate scaling the side of the palace, heading straight towards Princess Namaari’s room, Your Majesty.”
Virana doesn’t say anything, instead, she gives Namaari a look that tells the latter that she needs to answer.
“I invited her.” Namaari explains, not entirely a lie, “I didn’t expect her to come today.”
“Invited her to climb into your room?”
“She can’t just walk in, she’ll be shot on sight,” Namaari says sharply.
“Pirates are illegal," Virana explains, “it’s for our safety.”
“I don’t need to be protected from her, if anything I need to protect her. She will be executed if I don’t stand up for her.”
“You are making an emotional decision, morning mist. You can not go inviting and standing up for anyone you want into the palace, especially a pirate."
"This isn’t an emotional decision-."
"We have to set an example for our people. You can’t break a law and expect your citizens to not do the same.”
"We need to change that law." Namaari states sternly, confidently. "If anything I am setting an example for our people to stand up for their rights and fix what is unjust."
Virana seems slightly taken back by what Namaari has said, looking down at her daughter and the pirate with an unreadable expression.
"Someone who is a pirate shouldn't be illegal just because they are born that way or choose that lifestyle, the waters are not owned by anyone. If anything, they own the waters and they should not be tried unless they are given a reason besides just existing."
Namaari pauses for a second, squeezing Raya's hand. Virana didn't go to say anything, only looking at her daughter with the unreadable expression she seems to always bear, so Namaari continues.
"I will not let innocent people be punished for existing, what example is that setting for our people? Telling them that people who are different deserve to die? This isn't an emotional decision just because I love her, there's pirates out there that aren't the Druun. If we can treat them as equals, perhaps they'll help us to defeat the Druun."
Virana doesn't say anything, her expression unchanged. Namaari gives her little time to say anything if she wishes, but she doesn't.
“She’s staying with me.”
Namaari walks past her mother, pulling Raya along by her hand.
They didn't say a word on their way to Namaari's room. Even once inside they stayed quiet, the air still tense even in the safety of the Princess's 'well gaurded' room.
Namaari is the one to shut the door, leaving her hand on the handle for a moment longer to try to regain herself, taking in a steady breath.
Then she turns around to face Raya, walking over to her to take her hands into her own.
"Are you hurt?"
Raya shakes her head, "no."
"Good."
Namaari brushes her thumbs over the back of her hands in a simple, sweet gesture.
"I'm sorry."
"It wasn't your fault."
"Still," Namaari sighs, "you shouldn't have to experience it."
Raya adverts her gaze downwards, her breathing shaky and so is her voice when she speaks, “I was scared.”
Namaari doesn't say anything, letting Raya have a chance to speak. She continues to rub her thumbs across her hands, encouraging her to continue.
"I… I wasn't sure if you would do anything. I hoped you would stand up for me but I thought… that maybe you wouldn't. You have a title to keep and I… I don't know, I just really thought I was going to be executed."
Hearing that felt like a knife to her chest, her heart dropping into her stomach. She had made Raya feel as if she would just sit by and watch Raya be executed. It hurt but Namaari knows she hadn't done anything to prove to her that she would do anything for her. All of her actions have been more like she was only in it for the sex and if it was true, why would she save her?
"Raya…" Namaari starts after a moment of silence, raising her hands to cup her face and bring her gaze to fix onto hers. "You're more important to me than my title. I could never just let that happen to you, I just couldn't. I'm sorry I made you think that I wouldn't step in, that I wouldn't save you even if something else is at risk. I would do anything for you."
Raya's cheeks turn a slight shade of pink, barely noticeable if they weren't so close.
"So you did mean it?"
“Mean what?”
“That you love me?”
"I said that?" Namaari flushes, trying to remember when she had said that. When she let that slip from her lips. Slowly realizing when she did, to her mother. "I… did say that, didn't I?"
Raya nods.
"I did mean it. It's true." Namaari explains, her thumbs brushing over Raya's cheekbones, wiping off some tears that fell. "Although I wish I said it to you first before telling my mother."
Raya silently laughs, her hands running down Namaari's biceps to her forearms and finally to rest atop of Namaari's hands that cradle her face.
"I don't know if you remember, but that one time when you were drunk, you said you wanted for us to be in a committed relationship and do not hide it." Raya explains, "I thought it was just the alcohol talking, so I didn't say anything but I'm starting to think it was true."
Namaari nods. "It is true. I have been wanting more than just sex with you, which is wonderful, don't get me wrong but I want to be in a relationship. Do things couples do, I want to court you because I love you and I don't see myself doing this with anyone else."
"It's going to be difficult." Raya says. "I'm a pirate, you're a princess. I'm still illegal and we can't always be together. People won't like it if they find out."
"I rather have to deal with all of that and be with you than not be with you," Namaari says, leaning forward to press her forehead against Raya's. "I'll do anything to be with you, as long as you'll have me."
"Anything?"
"Anything."
Raya smiles. "Well then, I guess I have a confession."
"What is it?"
Raya leans forward to press her lips against Namaari's. A long, passionate but chaste kiss that makes Namaari's heart soar. When Raya pulls away Namaari follows to try to continue the kiss, being stopped by Raya who waits for her to open her eyes before speaking.
"I love you."
Namaari smiles brightly, leaning in to kiss her but not before saying against her lips, "I love you too.”
I know it's not my most beautiful drawing, unfortunately it had two or three bad lucks which I tried to make up for as best I could. but I found it interesting which is why I decided to finish it and post it.
Namaari and Nur both wear Fang's military clothing showing their respective ranks. (what could be more normal for Fang to spend quality time with family)
Nur is officially part of Heart's army but her status as a princess gives her the privilege of subtly displaying her belonging to Heart. (this was approved in advance by Namaari, head of Fang, who was more than supportive)
Inspirations and explications :
I really tried for Nur to ensure that she is an outfit that is a mixture of Heart and Fang (well I try every time I represent her or even Long, her sibling ) for Namaari just a detail that shows its belonging to heart (the belt buckle, I noticed that only Benja wears it or stripes in the Lorcana cards, and in the concept art the soldiers of Heart (absent in the film) wear the logo on their belt but not the flower like Benja. (I noted that in the film Fang's soldiers have a symbol on their belt buckle, unfortunately I was not able to see it clearly but I deduce that it is one of the shapes that the we see to represent Fang) (since Nur would also be an official member of Fang's army she would also wear this buckle) but when she is not in military uniform she wears the symbol of Fang like her mother. if she has an outfit close to Fang's army but in the colors of Heart it is a derogation and a privilege that she has because she is a princess and which was validated by her mother (head of Fang, and therefore of the army) (Namaari was absolutely not opposed to this, on the contrary). I really studied the patterns on the top of atitaya (which are not the same as the bottom) and those on her headband (which seems to be a sign found among the soldiers of the Kumandra stands) I note that these motifs for Fang's headband are figurative, with alternating bands of abstract geometric motifs.
I told myself that the shoulder pad could be a distinctive sign of a particular regiment like an elite commando
Nur's birthday (18 years old)
Nur was outside leaning against the balustrade swirling purple wine in her golden goblet, enjoying the cool night air, her arms and muscular belly bare, only her chest was covered with a turquoise cloth matched to her sabai, a belt Fang-patterned gold held the bottom piece. She heard footsteps approaching, behind her, as someone moved to her side while remaining slightly behind.
Namaari: Loud isn't it?
Nur: Is that why you run away from the crowd?
Namaari: You were there before me, it's more up to me to ask you, are you okay?
Nur: I'm celebrating my 18th birthday, that's a lot... Everyone but...
Namari: Yes?
Nur: No nothing...
Namaari: Tell me, I can see something is bothering you.
Nur: No, I'd say I'm pensive, that's all, nothing serious, you don't have to worry
Namaari: And tell me what do you think about Starlight?
Nur: Over to you
Namaari, surprised: ho?!
Nur: You gave me my first name, Nur, you said that I was your light, yours to you and Má. I thought about it while looking at the stars, you call me Starlight and Má, Morning light, why?
Namaari hums and walks over to Nur's side then looks up at the sky too, leaning against the railing.
Namaari: Your mother told me that your arrival in our family was like the rays of a rising sun of a new dawn, if she wanted to believe in kumandra since we had reformed the stone and something was possible had to change we still had everything to build, that's what we did and what she tried to do during her 5 years but she saw how fragile it could be. When we had you that's when she really said to herself that a new era was beginning
Nur: ho... Said she flattered
Namaari: For my part, I have always had my demons, my anxieties and my fears, I have always needed to cling to something, your mother has long been a source of hope and always helps me to move forward especially with more serenity, but i have on this day that when you came into my life you were like that star in the sky, *looking at the brightest one* you would always keep me going you would be the reason i will keep going hope and fight
Nur: Not Má?
Namaari: You are what binds me and your mother, our love. That's what's most precious to me
Nur: ho...
*Laughter and an all-too-familiar voice rang out*
Nur: And Long?
Namaari: Back then Long wasn't there, we didn't know this miracle was possible, let's just say it's more like magic, there's no hopeless magic Nur, Long wouldn't be here if you hadn't been
A comfortable silence sets in. Nur comes closer and lays her head against the shoulder namaari who smiles who moves her and reaches to hug her behind her shoulder and and brings her closer to snuggle her against her, Namaari grabs Nur's glass and drinks a little from it smirks nur just snickers knowingly when two hands come up on them and grab them.
Raya: How are my two favorite girls doing?
Namaari: Well -
Nur: Má are you drunk?
Raya, tipsy, with a slight rosy tint on her cheeks: But no morning light, it's just warm in there... Aren't you cold here?
Nur: No
Namaari: Still as chilly
Raya: Shut up and hug me, wife!
Namaari rolls her eyes and fullfills it.
Raya: Nur it's your birthday what are you doing here, go have fun! I believe there's a Spine warrior waiting for you
Nur rolls her eyes back.
Raya: Don't worry, I have an alibi if you have to go to your bedroom...
Nur: MÁÁÁ!!!!
Namaari: SORRY ? WHAT ?!
Raya: What? Your daughter is a woman you know
Nur: It's okay I'm leaving, Má you're annoying!!!
*Nur leaves*
Raya snuggling into Namaari's arms: What were you talking about? She said in a tipsy tone
No there she does not move she stays warm to be cuddled by Namaari
Raya, slowly: she's already 18...
Namari: I know...
Raya: Do you remember when she was a baby, the first time you carried her in your arms?
Namaari: Like it was yesterday
Raya: She was so small.
The two spoke at length, moved, with nostalgia, about this "baby" who has marveled their lives for 17 years now.
Namaari: I would personally be delighted, it’s a lot of work but we will be helped. I will see it as a miracle
Raya: waiting 18 months pregnant?! No thanks !!!
Namaari: sorry? What ?
Raya: 1 child 9 months old, 2 children twice 9 months old, so 18... We're dealing with simple math calculations, Namaari !!! You honestly disappoint me!
Long is peaceful and doesn't like fighting and prefers diplomacy so when these mothers want to teach them to defend themselves it scares them and ultimately blocks them a compromise is found while going at their own pace (Benja is Long's mentor, Raya is too chaotic and Namaari is too much brute force even if they recognize that she is a good Strategist just like Raya). a solution has been found.
Raya: Now that that's out of the way, do you want some cake? I made some
Long: Did you succeed?
suddenly a mischievous look appears in their eyes.
Long: Just because I said I don't want to learn violence doesn't mean I want it done to me.
Namaari burst out laughing while Raya pretended to be hurt
Raya, amused and falsely outraged: Seriously?! My cooking isn't that bad! then she approached her child to poke their noses.
