i can't stop thinking about genloss being a representation of being a content creator and how it relates to the last scene. "let me die. i don't want to keep doing this." the mask flashing on and off in morse code for sos. ranboo's asking for things to be over in terms of the performance that he's stuck in and wants to be freed from his role as a hero that everyone relies on, and simultaneously the person behind the performance doesn't want to keep existing with the pressure and responsibility of thousands watching him and waiting for him to entertain them. they're switching back and forth between the 'real' version of them and the performing version of them, and yet they're saying the same thing, over and over. because it doesn't matter which part of him is saying it. it's just a cry for help.

And in the end, he lost both of them and it was his own fault.

Listen. Listen to me. c!Ranboo is so full of love. It’s such a core part of his character and it’s a driving force for a lot of things that he does. I’d say it’s one of the main reasons for his “choose people not sides” mentality. This character loves in so many ways, and yes he messes up, causes problems, and upsets people partly because of this, but god damn if he isn’t trying.

They were so torn apart over Tommy’s death (probably the one who was most upset) and they planted flowers outside Tommy’s house to show this. They were kind to Wilbur after he was revived and tried to give him a chance, multiple times. They wanted to believe that Wilbur could recover and improve and be a better person, and they wanted to be there to see that. They were gentle and stayed by Tubbo’s side and supported him during his presidency era.

They were one of the only ones to visit Tommy in exile and supported him as much as they could, sending him letters of encouragement and being his tether to outside of exile for a while. They made an axe for Techno after he lost his out of the kindness of their heart. They tried to make amends and be amicable with Quackity even after he and Tubbo butted heads over the outpost, even leaving a gift for him in Las Nevadas

He loves his son and his family and everyone else so damn much that he would die for them (and has. TWICE. Once to prove a point and stop Wilbur from hurting anyone else and once to protect his son)

He is so incredibly full of love that it even permeates to his fucking ghost who can’t even feel emotions. Even without being able to feel, love is such an intrinsic part of Ranboo that Ghostboo was still sweet with Michael, still kind to Tubbo, still gave Tubbo a tulip and said with the gentlest voice “This is how we got him home the first time, remember?” Still gave Tommy his Rapple when Tommy was on the brink of a panic attack. Even though he couldn’t feel he was still so full of love, it’s just part of his core. It’s him.

They just wanted to love… they just wanted to be loved. They wanted to be remembered. And yet… They never showed this love to themself. Ranboo never gave their love to the person who needed it the most

Just thinkin about how despite how nearly universally hated c!Wilbur was even within what was once a close knit circle he was eventually revived. Brought back to try again, given the gift of a second change to be better.

That’s in contrast to c!Ranboo who’s morals around sides kept his social circles extremely open. He had so many people who cared about him and loved him. Yet no one bothered even starting to try to bring him back to them.

•While doing Dream's test, I noticed his answers were absolutely extreme and the opposite could be said for Ranboo.

• I for some reason made c!Techno seem like the most anti-social fuck imaginable.

•This is probably very biased because I am not omnipotent so I very likely got some shit wrong so feel free to correct me.

Man, it really is wild in terms of trying to do DSMP lore analysis at how many permanent deaths (lore wise) were done by characters who at the time had no idea that what they were doing was permanent, and then the creators had to retcon lore later to make it fit.

Eret’s final control room— 3 life system didn’t exist, c!Eret at the time of betrayal didn’t know it was death.

Tubbo’s execution— 3 life system didn’t exist, c!techno at the time didn’t know it was death-death

Wilbur button room— c!phil canonically didn’t know Wilbur was on his last life.

C!tommy and c!Dream both knew they were taking lives from each other, THEY knew. And if they knew, presumably c!Tommy knew about Jack Manifold.

C!purpled intended to kill slime AND he wanted it to hurt AND he looked good doing it.

C!Quackity threatening permanent death of multiple people but he didn’t actually manage to pull off any deaths I don’t think.

C!wilbur and c!Fundy both very deliberately suicided with varying levels of permanency.

I think C!Awesamdude didn’t know Ranboo was on his last life, is that true or am I misremembering?

Anyways like no wonder the lore and character analysis is a mess.

this was based on a misreading of a different post so now im rating how lesbian dsmp characters are. no real criteria just going off of vibes from a lesbian. based vaguely on how lesbian they are and how much they might identify as lesbian

C!Phil- (4/10)-he has a wife so thats something. he's kinda forgone most identities by this point he just does what he wants

C!Tubbo-(1/10)-im sorry thats just some binary gay transmasc guy. he may have briefly been a lesbian in his early teens so he had an extremely on the spot explanation for schlatt abt dressing masc but he likes men (a lot) so he never really had any attachment to the label

C!Ranboo-(3/10)-they arent really interested in women but he's got a lesbian gender thing goin on. guy with a weird relationship to femininity

C!Dream-(2/10)-she actually is a lesbian but no ones told her that yet and she's probably not gonna figure it out on her own. mamacita was an egg cracking experience

C!Niki-(10/10)- trans curious bisexual woman who wears a trench coat and has ratty dyed pink hair and knows how to tie a lot of different kinds of knots and not for boat reasons. she's having a full boar gender and sexuality crisis starting during the election. dyke as a gender identifier probably wouldn't occur to her but she'd like it a lot. she'd also like the old flag with the axe

C!Sam-(2/10)-not really a lesbian at all but if puffy squints hard enough while theyre making out sad style she can act like he's a cute butch

C!Fundy-(3/10)-he doesnt really call himself a lesbian but whenever he has a crush on a woman he in his head says he's being gay for her. accidentally postponed niki's sexuality crisis by transitioning to a guy

C!Puffy-(7/10)-the best way i can describe puffy's gender is that she is earnestly trying to be as confusing contradictory and horny as possible and it's working. she's a lesbian but only when she's a guy or just extremely down bad for some lady and if you called her a dyke she'd moan

C!Slimecicle-(7/10)-lesbian as a gender thing. he doesn't like using typical words to describe his gender but lesbian is the closest to standard it'll go

except in my head i've had charlie as the soldier and sneeg as the poet

my thought being

charlie dies, every single episode, he's involved in violence in some way, but he continues nonetheless, especially with him having been (i think canonically?) raised by showfall, he soldiers on through all the trauma, doesnt even scream for ranboo to stop or anything during his one moment of opportunity instead just screaming in pain (fair enough), hang on ill link a thing someone wrote about the scene that solidified this for me

and then i dont have anywhere near as much for sneeg other than, i just fuckin love to wax poetic about horror and dawning realisations and he really really gets that, and also him dying about an inch from the exit is just, amazing, he lies very convincingly to jerma/puzzler to let him out to go to the toliet, and promises ranboo he'll come back for them, most of his actions i think of in regards to like, breaking through showfalls control were largely verbal ones, or at least the ones i stuck out to me

and then ranboo is absolutely the king, "brow laid with thorn" box, and also their mask , "smeared with oil like davids boy" oil is not exactly slime but viscosity varies and slime usually contains an oil of some kind, so im perfectly happy to use oil as another substitute for blood in this context

Soldier, poet, king. The taken, the villain, the hero.

I was listening to soldier poet king by the oh hellos just now and realized how it fit gen loss surprisingly well, down to the religious imagery.

Soldier = the taken

Sneeg was the first to “fight back” in the sense of he broke through showfalls filter first and tried his damndest to escape. His character overall is blunt, judgy, and shielded. He fought until the very end, when he was taken down by a security monster trying to break free again. Everytime sneeg “dies”, he doesn’t go down without a fight.

Poet = the villain

Charlie’s character plays the widest variety of roles. It’s still the same guy, the same “actor”, but he’s thrown between being the demon, the patient, and a streamer. Sneer’s character is almost the same between day one and two, but Charlie is drastically different.

King = the hero

Cmon. “There will come a ruler, who’s crown is laid in thorn”. That lyric almost definitely references jesus and ranboo is essentially crucified. The entire show rested on his shoulders, he was the hero. They were the center of everything even though they never wanted to be and it ended up being his downfall, his death.

It just all makes sense in my head ya know? Anyways, soldier poet king makes every piece of media sadder thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Time to have C!Techno headcannons!!!

Heyo, seems like finally I reached my 2nd favorite cc ever! I think techno's character is REALLY interesting, with great writing and details and I can definitely add some hc of my own in there, so without further ado, let's go!

(btw @syndicatedsystem you might like some of my headcannons involving Jschlatt and Techno I talk about here so yeah! Also feel free to discuss em' with me or make asks abt it, hell your blog inspires me a lot)

• Techno has some braids in his hair, the longer, the more he values the person

Longest: Philza, it's braided with gold details

2nd longest: Ranboo, has a amethyst crystal for purple

Mid-term: Wilbur, he braided it in consideration of a battle friend and some good times with Will, he doesn't hate or likes Wilbur, but still can't deny they do have a connection

Shortest: Tommy.

• Techno prepared a space in the cabin for Tommy in case some day, his demons and the hell he was looking for, finally was found, he'd welcome Tommy with open arms, since he'd view that the kid suffered enough and had the time to change and face any consequences he'd need to face, the space is safe, always available, but, he'd never tell Tommy that, he keeps it hidden, he's not ready to be vulnerable to the demon child again and openly say Tommy could count on him, not until Tommy makes the first step.

• Keeps the pickaxe that blinded Quackity as a trophy, this and keeps all weapons from powerful enemies with him as a reminder of a great battle he won once again

• Likes to write poetry about people and events, he'd never give them to the person, but keep it in a dusty small box in his room in the attic of the cabin

• OKAY, LET'S ALL AGREE TECHNO IS ARO/ACE? GOOD.

• Techno was friends with Jschlatt before everything went to hell, they liked to talk about random bs while watching the fire crack at night and drink some cheap booze for Jschlatt and coffee for Techno

• I view Techno also having some boar traits, so yeah territorial as FUCK don't mess with his stuff or house, also he chases pray like crazy and can eat almost anything without a problem due to that

• Doesn't CARE for alcohol, just doesn't like the idea of having a hangover afterwards since he'd be unable to fight the next day

• Would gossip with Jschlatt, Tommy and the syndicate like, ABOUT EVERYTHING, I imagine him and Jschlatt favorite hobby is shit talking people they hate

• Techno being aro/ace also means if you flirt with him, he'll just stare at your soul and bully the shit out of you, sometimes calls Phil and/or Jschlatt to roast the shit out of the person, also WILL defend himself from any creeps and defend his friends from ANY strange people since for him touch is STRICTLY a death sentence and something that takes time

• Techno smokes when stressed or in the syndicate room, making Phil always carry an extra lighter for him just in case, the 2 used to be smoking buddies before Phil quit when he adopted Chayanne and Tallulah

• Techno in the QSMP is an entity, a god watching above everyone but never leaving Phil side and the eggs side, sometimes he'd talk to Tallulah directly, or influence Phil like a voice in his head to do the right thing in his vision or appear to Chayanne in his dreams to have a chat

• Can and will drink blood from the enemies

• Loves to talk about skulls and anatomy of the body in general, a dark fact, due to respect to Jschlatt, after he died (not considering revival, I view revival as either the decomposed body coming back to life in a LESS but STILL fucked up state or a kind of new body that is the users body in the afterlife coming to the alive realm, if you guys want, I can make a post about this) picked and kept Jschlatt sheep skull, with horns and everything

• Would talk about historical wars and battles with his own analysis and commentaries on it, making a great history teacher

• totally collects greek mythology stuff, books, items, anything.

• Has a couple of tattoos but one that is pretty badass is a wither skull with red smoke on his ribs in the right, a tattoo of a emerald in the inside of his left wrist, a tattoo of a squid with a fork on it's head in reference to the potato war on his right wrist really tiny and "everything starts with blood" and "the voices demand blood" written in his tights

• My boy 100% has piercings due to piglin culture, around 75% of them being made of gold

two of my biggest stances on dsmp analysis is that anything that happens in audience view is canon and that because of the nature of the medium (live collaborative rp), it's always good to take a doylist look at things.

the latter i've talked about a lot before in regards to things like the syndicate being friends (the argument being they're not, specifically c!niki and c!ranboo, because we never see them bonding) though it also applies to things like why certain events took place when they did. and how those things are understandable because of real life things that would've hampered or prevented them from happening.

but there's one moment in dsmp canon that drives that fact home, that really shows that sometimes things might happen more so either because real life interferes or because doing otherwise would impede on another person's planned story line: c!ranboo's death and c!techno's reaction to it.

specifically the fact he was in the presence of a character who can bring people back from the dead - something techno acknowledges - and doesn't ask. he says to c!phil as c!dream is walking away that dream can revive people but doesn't actually make an effort to go ask him. and when he's speaking to dream later, he also doesn't ask.

there's no doubt that techno is immensely fond of ranboo, that he cares about them. he's deeply upset and hurt by ranboo's death! it is out of character that he would acknowledge the ability to revive ranboo and not pursue that.

but doing so would've kinda put out other people's story plans so it doesn't happen. just like the syndicate bonding/training didn't happen or other events took longer to happen for reasons related to offline events.

i don't really know what the point of this post is other than to finally put some things into words that have been bothering me for years.

I like forcing people to watch Generation Loss with me, but one problem they tend to have is that they don't have any background knowledge on the content creators involved (when I watched it I only knew about some of the content creators from the DSMP and in Sneeg's case, Origins SMP, and I still don't know much about a few of them. But I started talking about GL Nikki and how her being meant to represent Nikki's lived experience as a content creator online also probably unintentionally doubled as a commentary on how female characters are treated in media and by fandom spaces and it got me thinking:

Can the death of the author be applied to GenLoss? Not in a "I'm going to pretend Hatsune Miku wrote har/ry pot/ter" way to alleviate guilt (from what I've seen, Ranboo is a pretty based person) but in a, "can this piece of media be analyzed outside of the author's direct intent?" Way? Could someone who's never watched Ranboo enjoy Generation Loss as a story about someone named Ranboo and still get something out of it? What does the mask mean to someone who's never learned why the mask is significant to the content creator the character is based on? Can someone who's never heard of the bullshit Nikki was put through still get something interesting out of her character like with the aforementioned parallels I noticed with how female characters are perceived in general?

I feel like maybe you'd have to know a little bit about Ranboo's LGBTQ + identity to see them leaving out that Ranboo is Enby and Gay completely because he's the Main Character and that can't be outside of the cis/straight default! But that only really effects the character analysis of how GL Ranboo is treated and they would still probably be able to see the implicit homophobia in how Showfall treats gay men as jokes like with Sneeg relationship with Frank and Austin's whole, gay guy trying to pretend he's straight thing. But once it's revealed that the whole thing was a show and how Austin's "joke" status continues even when he's the only person who gives a damn about being murdered they might be able see that commentary.

I kind of want to make an assignment that's just, "watch Generation Loss and try to analyze it as deeply as you can without researching the people behind the project, and then tell me what you think it means." Because I'm so interested in what the answers would be.

Yes this is about the comparison between him and c!Wilbur that I mentioned earlier. He has so many people who love him, see him as a good person, and are willing to defend that fact. Yet he still wasn’t revived. Arguably the best way to show him he’s wanted and loved.

But Wilbur made a lot of content over the years and idk, i figured I’d make a a list of recommendations for similar content to fill that void as well :)

Minecraft SMP’s (specifically DSMP)

The same SMP’s but other POV’s — I’ll just start with this cos it’s the most iffy. There’s plenty of enjoyment to be had with these fandoms still, and I personally don’t think we need to let the actions of a couple shitty guys ruin the silly Minecraft roleplay we all enjoy. That said, if you aren’t comfy watching these anymore that’s perfectly valid as well, especially since Wilbur’s character will be lurking around in the background of plenty of these. But yeah, we can also uplift other creators by watching the fun stories they made, especially those who got buried by bigger creators at the time. So Dream SMP, QSMP, Origins SMP, SMP earth, SMPlive all have content you can enjoy.

Different, completely unrelated SMP’s — hermitcraft, the life series, empires SMP (shubble was involved in this one, I’m planning on watching her POV when I find some time) etc. I’ve had plenty of people recommend these to me before, from what I’ve seen they’re very enjoyable :)

Hamilton — not even joking, if you enjoyed the L’manberg era of DSMP and you didn’t watch Hamilton, I’d heartily recommend it. Great music, lots of politics but all in a fun and silly way, also tragic endings!

Editor Wilbur ARG (I’m a massive ARG fan so I have tonnes of recommendations here)

Generation Loss — Ranboo’s very awesome Horror project that they’ve been working very hard on!!! Ranboo’s been teasing new content lately as well so that’s exciting

Analog horror series — Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment, Mandela Catalog, Kane Pixel’s Backrooms videos, etc. All very good and spooky videos, definetely an inspiration for Gen Loss, and I know Wilbur enjoyed this content as well (though the editor Wilbur arg predates a lot of this genre) those are some of the biggest on YouTube atm, and some of my personal favourites, but there’s plenty more to find (I recommend channels like Nightmind and Nexpo who do analysis videos for all this horror and ARG stuff if you wanna find more)

Marble Hornets — gets its own category! One of the original analog horror genres (predated the genre actually) it’s basically one of the biggest and most comprehensive Slenderman series out there. There’s a LOT of content here and lots of lore and mystery (though a lot of the game clues have been lost to time) (Jack Manifold also reacted to this on stream, it was very chill and good fun)

Horror podcasts — Magnus Archives and Magnus Protocol, Malevolent and Archive 81 are some of my favourites, but there’s plenty more out there to find and enjoy :). Also very spooky with lots of mystery to involved, the Magnus Protocol is very new as well so great time to get into that!

Just Chatting / Geoguessr / other chill content

Geoguessr streamers / YouTubers — honestly I genuinely didn’t watch much geoguessr content outside of Wilbur’s streams so, I don’t have many recommendations here. I know Eret has been doing geoguessr streams lately and their content is very good and chill. Jacksuckatlife plays as well and last I watched he was fairly good at it (like similar skill level to Wilbur), otherwise Rainbolt is a geoguessr legend, he terrifies me a little ngl.

Other streamers — I think the thing with the just chatting streams is that we watch for *that specific streamer’s* personality. It’s hard to really make recommendations other than just saying go watch more of the streamers you enjoy. Personally I enjoy Phil’s hardcore streams, and Sneegsnag’s Crime Time the most, but there’s plenty of other people both in this MCYT space and outside of it that you’ll probably enjoy :)

Sorry boys (unlike horror I don’t watch much comedy so, sorry, this’ll be lacking)

Just Roll With It — Charlie Slimecicle’s DND podcast. I’ve only listened to a little bit of this but it’s really good and REALLY silly (oh, and emotional sometimes, gotta have a bit of angst y’know) Wilbur was a guest on a couple of episodes, but you can always skip past those if you want.

Tommy’s videos — so Wilbur features in a lot of the early vlogs and *minecraft but* videos, but Tommy’s content has always been good fun, his recent stuff is excellent as well! He’s been doing a lot of comedy content lately, specifically a live show so definitely check that out if you want :)

Smosh pit — not something I’ve watched a lot of, but I’ve seen clips of their try not to laugh videos and they’re definitely on par with the bat shit improv you get from Sorry Boys.

Game changer — again, not something I’ve watched much, mostly consumed through osmosis, but the show is funny, the cast is always silly and it’s a lot of fun all round

Whatever else Sorry Boys make after this — judging by some of the responses to Wilbur’s “statement” I think it’s fair to assume if Sorry Boys do continue making content Wilbur will be cut from the group. Of course don’t feel obligated to stick around if you don’t want to, but Wilbur won’t be compensated if he’s kicked and the rest of the guys are still fun :)

YLYL and similar goofy stuff

Just… other streamers again — Jack Manifold does YLYL streams with his friends. James Marriott does a lot of reaction videos as well, sometimes YLYL, sometimes reacting to content his viewers send in (like TikTok’s and break up texts), those are my favourites atm.

YouTubers — that niche between video essay and reaction content, people like Danny Gonzales, Drew Gooden, Kurtis Conner, Pinely, all good fun YouTube channels that make good, silly, and easy to consume content.

Other gaming streamers and YouTubers — Slimecicle, Ranboo, Games Grumps, RT games, and SneegSnag all play a wide variety of games, they’re all relatively chill but none of them take the games all that seriously either so it’s fun and goofy as well :)

And of course Fanfiction!!!

I might be a little bias here cos I write myself but fic is created by and for fans and it exists to give you even *more* content about the stories you love, whether it be reimagining canon events or just dumping your favourite characters into a silly au.

I know a lot of authors (myself included) are feeling super conflicted and weird about writing Wilbur in the future. Plenty of authors have been moving onto new fandoms so if you find something you enjoy make sure you check out the author’s other work and who knows, maybe you’ll find some cool new fandoms that way!
