There are some days when tidying the studio just feels so good. With so many projects in the works it’s easy to get lost in the sweet chaos of the messes these days. There used to be a time when I couldn’t walk away from a mess like that, so it feels good to take a step back and not let it consume me. I still like things tidy but it no longer consumes me. I like using my watercolor journal as a playground for practice. Today it’s values. This is way out of my comfort zone but I’m embracing the challenge. I’ve been inspired all week by the beautiful shades of blue-violets and greens I photographed at a local blueberry farm recently. When I’m experimenting with new or difficult things I expect to feel discouraged. If I become overwhelmed I simply walk away. Sometimes fresh eyes are all the help I need when learning something new, other times I file the practice away and move on to more comfortable or accomplished tasks. In all things though, it’s baby steps.
