I don't know what I'm doing. I know I want to be an author/artist, and that means I need to write more, and art more, so here's an art. A really bad art, but I'm okay with making bad art. I'll make myself okay with making bad art, because you need to make a lot of bad art so that you can make good art. After I painted the butterfly fairy - if you haven't seen that one, it's the post right before this one :P - I really felt like I wanted to spend more time with those beautiful colors and shapes that the wings carried. It's very rare for me to be so attracted to such opaque and solid abstract shapes, usually I prefer working loose but with as much contrast as possible as my beginner arms can carry. Sometimes I do wonder if I'm not missing on an opportunity to create patterns and/or play with watercolor more freely, but then I watch the pigment disperse in water and suddenly all my desire to work with clean cut shapes dissipates and I fall back in love with the magic of watercolor. I do imagine myself trying less transparent mediums in the future, things like gouache or pastels really draw me in, but for the moment I want to continue with this medium. Partly because I want to see how far along I can make it, partly because another medium means another small financial investment which is not something I am willing to go for at the moment. Anyway, these were my thoughts as I was working on this piece. It's collab time again! 🌟 Over the last year I have met a lot of fun and interesting artists starting up here on IG (thank you, covid!). Having art in common, with some of you I chat almost every day, and I can't tell you how much of a support that is to me and my mental health... and today I would like to thank my dear Mattea @illustrations.mm for being the sweetest and funniest of all the Slytherin Celine Dion fans I have met! You know, painting pieces for sell or gifts and painting pieces to TEACH are two very different creatures 🤔 In reality, I’ve been painting non stop for two different purposes... and feeling slowed down because of it. Someone close to me said, maybe you don’t need to teach.. that honestly really gave me a sense of freedom because I know I can’t keep up with everything, my plate seems to be overflowing - so what I’ll do is just keep CREATING, enjoying these busy times while the kids are still small, and keep an open heart along the way. It’s been a rough time for all of us, yeah? .. ..so this bird -I was pretty insecure about this paint along because I lost my reference photo along the way 😢 And one of my “methods” is to use a reference like a road map! But energy is never wasted so I did my best to recreate a purple finch, since I couldn’t even remember what bird it was 🤣 Omg.
