Project Red Tail Redux: 1o74 Honda CB750 from @makerofthings, originally a retirement gift for a 33-year veteran of the USAF, newly restored and transformed: “I wanted to build a ‘cafe-ish’ big motor bike with paint and setup more reminiscent of the craft made famous by the Red Tail squadron of P-51’s flown by the Tuskegee Airmen.” Appropriately enough, the bike was unveiled at the 2022 @victorymotoshow, held at veteran-owned @servicebrewing with proceeds benefiting @warriormusicfoundation. Not only that, but there was a surprise in store for @makerofthings and the owner: “Funny enough, this build has an even deeper meaning to me as the owner actually worked in the USAF with my mom years back. I didn’t actually realize that until my father came to the show in Savannah during its unveiling and he recognized the owner!” Talk about full circle! Preparing the frilly ruffled edging that has become one of our trademarks....I spend hours doing this. It is a kind of therapy, partly because this is the last step in completing most of the garments and I know I am only moments away from standing back and admiring another little masterpiece. I’ve been trying to crank things out to restock my inventory. Around Christmas I started clearing out my stock to start over with something different. I decided on home decor and stuffies because they’re faster to turn out. I found Lalylala’s book at JoAnn and it’s been worth every penny! So far, it takes me a day to make one little bug, but it’s oh so fun. Step two of mug work. Here I’m shaping and putting a handle on the mug. My handles I make using custom cut die for my extruder. I’ve pulled handles and shapes them individually, but this handle design and technique works for my aesthetic. At the end of the clip it shows me applying a little wedge of clay between the handle and mug body. I picked this up from an interview John Britt did with an artist who worked in porcelain. At the time I was also working in porcelain and I solved my cracking issue I kept having with the handles. So since it worked so well I just kept on doing it.
