"know your place, brother" and how loki treads lightly around thor while thor threatens and manhandles him in ways that are never reciprocated even once they're firmly enemies and how loki isn't allowed to speak when thor and odin are arguing no matter how deferential he is and how odin tells thor he's "unworthy of his loved ones" like he's confiscating a piece of property while loki looks on in silence and how loki calls himself "stolen" and speaks of being "used" for a "purpose" and how loki screams about wanting to be thor's equal and bows sarcastically before their fight but his defeat still comes down to odin not judging him worthy of "the power of thor" in the end and how loki comes back from the dead feverishly and desperately trying to frame his "new purpose" as a good thing but still calling freedom "life's great lie" and how the exhibition in stuttgart is called "conquest and sacrifice" and loki is both of those things and "you're going to lose, it's in your nature" and "in the end you will always kneel" and how odin and frigga can never tell loki that they love him only "you're my son" which is just another expression of possession and how being odin and frigga's son is a lie that loki's whole life is built on but it's burrowed right down to his core and how when he challenges it frigga tells him she (still) knows him better than he knows himself and how odin tells loki "your birthright was to die" meaning that because he saved his life as a baby loki has no rights and even his hatred of odin isn't truly his own but also just meaning that loki should die, it's his purpose, it's what he's for and how even AFTER that loki gives his life to save the future king of asgard not once but two separate times it's SICK it's fucking NAUSEATING why do people not SEE IT!!!

Hi. I have a request for a loki x female reader. I love his character so much. I would like it too be a short fluffy one.
Can you write a fic about loki and a reader who likes him but is afraid to tell him that, so she avoids him but he realizes that she likes him because he can read her like an open book. And it ending with them kissing for the first time.
Sorry if this sounds confusing. If you can't write this that is fine.

Avoiding
Summary : you're a goddess on Asgard, and you've fallen in love with Loki. Warnings: fem! reader, r has long hair but texture and color isn't desc., some self doubt but it's very brief, let me know if i missed anything! Word count: 1.3k (not proofread) Notes: this is so cute! i did give them some more backstory so i hope you enjoy! (also dividers by @saradika-graphics !!)
You loved Loki.
It was plain and simple. You were a goddess on Asgard and had grown up with him while Frigga taught you how to harness your magic. You and Loki clicked instantly, sometimes getting into trouble together or spending quiet afternoons between lessons together. You helped him with his pranks against his brother, he helped you try new things with your magic.
You had a crush on him when you were both children, but you thought it was just a silly childhood crush.
Then, you grew up and it didn't go away.
If anything, your feelings grew stronger and deeper.
You didn't want to ruin the friendship you had with him and he was a prince. You held no title other than 'goddess' and you had heard about all the suitors his father had set up for him. Loki didn't want any of them and always said he'd rather spend his life with you or no one at all.
Surely, he didn't mean that he wanted to court and marry you, right?
He always went straight to you after meeting with suitors, which is where he found you one late afternoon. You were lounging around in the library, re-reading one of your favorite books, when he slipped through the large library doors. He closed them behind him and let out a sigh as he leaned against them.
You looked up from your book with a soft smile. "How'd it go?" You asked, even though you knew the answer.
"Terrible," Loki answered, walking over to you and sitting on the opposite end of the couch you were on. "I don't think my father understands that I'm not interested in these spoiled princes and princesses."
"Aww, you poor thing," you said teasingly, putting your book aside and scooting closer to him. "You have all these perfect options to choose from-"
"You know I don't want any of them," he quickly cut you off, smiling over at you. "But at least this one brought me a present."
"Oh, did they? What was it?"
Loki held his hand up and used his magic to make the gift appear. It was a delicate, gold crown that looked like a vine full of leafs.
"It's beautiful," you quietly said, leaning closer to get a better look.
"I was nice about it, but I knew it would look better on you than me," he replied, taking the crown between his hands and turning to face you. He gently placed it on top of your head, gently pulling a few pieces of your hair out to frame your face.
Your smile fell when you noticed how close the two of you were, your lips slightly parted as your heart raced. His soft smile made your insides melt and all you wanted to do lean forward and kiss him.
"I was right," he whispered, just loud enough for you to hear, "it does look better on you. You look like a queen."
Your gaze fell to his lips. All you had to do was say three little words and lean forward. But that could ruin everything.
Instead, you pulled away and stood up, clearing your throat awkwardly. You grabbed your book and turned towards him as you walked backwards to the doors. "I-I'm sorry, I have to go..." You quickly said before turning and leaving.
Loki watched the doors close behind you, leaving him alone in the library. His smile fell and he leaned against the back of the couch, letting out a sigh.
Something was up with you, and he was going to figure out what it was.
A few days had passed since what happened in the library and you had done your best to avoid Loki. You felt embarrassed and you didn't want to face him. You started to avoid the places the two of you usually frequented and found a nice beach area to escape to. It was hidden by different types of flora from the palace gardens.
However, you kept the crown he gave you. You only took it off to sleep or do your hair, which was always in a style that let you wear the crown. You had gotten compliments from others around the castle and when they asked where it had come from, you simply said it was a gift.
But it was more than a gift to you. It was a slight bit of hope that Loki requited your feelings.
Yet, you were too afraid to tell him and decided that avoiding him would help. Even with your peaceful beach and your favorite books, Loki still took up most, if not all, of your thoughts. Maybe he did know you had feelings for him because he knew you so well.
He knew you well enough to eventually find you on the beach. The sun was just starting to set and it caused the clear, blue waves to sparkle in the late afternoon light. The sun also shined off of the crown on your head, making you easy to spot for Loki.
When he called your name, your heart skipped a beat. You stood up from where you were sitting and reading before turning to him, watching him as he jogged over to you.
"There you are!" He said with a large smile. "I've been looking for you everywhere the past few days, why have you been avoiding me, dear?"
Dear. Gods, you loved him.
"I...I just needed some space, I guess," you replied softly, looking out at the waves next to you two.
"Space to think about your feelings for me?" He asked with a hint of teasing in his tone.
Your head whipped around and you looked at him with wide eyes. "W-what do you mean? What feelings-"
"Darling, we've been friends since we were children, I know you," he reached for your hands, taking them in his, "I figured out you had feelings for me only recently, so don't think I've been leading you on or anything. I've been trying to figure out how to tell you that I love you."
"You...what?" You were still surprised he found out, but now he admitted he loved you? Your mind was racing and so was your heart as you stepped closer to him. "You love me, too?"
"Of course I do, darling," he said, trailing his hands up your arms to hold your waist as he pulled you closer. "Why else do you think I've rejected all the suitors my father set up for me? Why do you think I gave you that crown?"
He leaned closer, pressing his forehead against yours before saying, "why do you think I spend every second I can with you?"
You took a deep breath, letting out a relieved sigh. "I was scared I was going to ruin what we have," you whispered.
He reached one hand up and cupped your cheek, running his thumb across your skin gently. "You could never ruin it, darling."
You slowly started to lean closer, the gap between you and him closing. He met you half way and pressed his lips to yours.
You had imagined his kiss many times, but none of it compared to real life. He was soft and gently, but still held you tight and close. He knew where to place his hands, how to move his lips against yours, and when to pull away.
It wasn't a short kiss, nor was it long, but you immediately missed the feeling of his lips on yours. However, the look he gave you silently told you that more were to come.
"Would you allow me to court you, darling?" He asked softly, still holding you close to him.
"Of course, Loki," you answered, smiling up at him, "but does your father know?"
He laughed. "No, but I don't care if he approves or not. I want you, I choose you, and he'll have to be okay with that because I'm never going to change my mind."

Ruling/Domain
Folkvangr is her realm and Sessrumnir is her hall.
(and is sometimes said to be where she takes her half of the dead but this is disputed)
Family
Njord is her father originally hailing from the Vanir but was exchanged as a hostage to the Æsir with his children (Freyr and Freyja). He is a god of ships and wind, commonly associated with wealth. Her mother is never mentioned but is speculated to be Skadi or Njords sister, an unnamed Vanir goddess, a final theory being Nerthus. A Germanic goddess from the time of Tacitus, during his accounting supposedly a goddess was worshiped all over Gaul. Her idol was brought around in a cart and kept in a sacred grove.
Her twin is Frey(r), and he rules over Alfheim. They make up a commonly seen idea of the worship and presence in mythology around the world of twin gods. Their names, which we commonly know translate to “Lord” (Freyr) and “Lady” (Freyja), are speculated to account for a fertility cult surrounding the Vanir possibly. During the Lokasenna, Loki accuses the two siblings of incest during his slander.
“Loki spake:
32. "Be silent, Freyja! | thou foulest witch,
And steeped full sore in sin;
In the arms of thy brother | the bright gods caught thee
When Freyja her wind set free." (The Poetic Edda, Translation by Henry Adam Bellows)
We have no other evidence to support this idea apart from the belief that the Vanir practiced incest in marriage and that Njord possibly was married to a sister at one point in time but still no evidence upholds these claims. Both Freyja and Freyr share a vast association with fertility and the land they also both are depicted to ride a boar and at a point, they each are mentioned riding a boar named “Gullinbursti” (“Golden-Bristles”).
She has 2 daughters Hnoss and Gersemi both of which translate to "treasure" though only mentioned in Christian sources and Gersemi is only mentioned once. In the Eddas, it says she has a husband named Oðr which is one of Odin's names, and gets into the Frigga and Freyja debate.
History
Getting into the debate on Freyja and Frigga it’s a tough battle between the texts, history, and linguistics. In the myths it’s very evident that they are separate goddesses with different personalities and attributes, Loki in the Lokasenna insults them both separately. From their names as we know them now Freyja only translates to “Lady” and Frigga means “to love” and we see that repetition across old Norse and Proto-Germanic with her name, we also see that Frigga's name is the closest associated to the word “Friday” with the days of the week transferring from the Romans to the germanic tribes we see how simply they took the names of the Romans gods and swapped them for associated Scandinavian gods, going from the romance language meaning “Venus day” to “Frigs day” as her germanic translations were so closely associated with love, which is another cross between her and Freyja, Frigga commonly is seen as a more domestic goddess and a wife, we see Freyja as this love goddess and in the text especially by Snorri Freyja is sexualized and made to be a promiscuous goddess, which could easily be that we are seeing what was once one goddess split into two versions or faucets of what they were before. One other confusing part for many people is Freyja’s husband Odr who is known to be the god Odinn. Freyja is also known heavily for her weeping when off searching for her husband, during Baldur's death Frigga's exaggerated focus is her weeping, which could easily be nothing important. But modernly the generally acceptable answer is that they are two different goddesses both important in their own right and status.
Frøya has a necklace she always wears. Its name is Brisgamen is a torc/necklace made by the dwarves and frøya supposedly spent a night with each of them who made it to get Brisingamen. In other myths Thor wears it dressed as Frøya during the fake wedding to Thrym the giant who stole Thor's hammer, then when Loki stole it and gave it to Odin. Odin made her start a war to get it back.
She also had a Boar named Hildisvini "Battle-swine" which she turned her husband oðr into and rode in one of the myths.
In the Grimnismal translation, it says "then" Odin picks not "and" giving the idea Freyja picks first but it's never mentioned otherwise. But modernly we accept that she does have the first pick. Gullveig is believed to be another name for frøya, she was a sorceress who predicted the Æsir, Vanir war and was burned alive 3 times by the Æsir each time coming back to life and was struck by spears and still didn't die.
She, like Odin, was known to use many different names throughout the myths and in her travels. She's the one who taught Odin and the other Æsir gods how to do Seidr magic. After the Æsir, Vanir war they exchanged hostages, and Frøya, Njordh, and Frey went to live with the Æsir in Asgard.
The Dís or Disir are referenced very often, always female, some called them female ancestors or fate goddesses which would include them in the Norns but they're also mentioned as Valkyrie in a sense as the Valkyrie were the Helpers of Odin and Freyja, they choose the who will fall and who lives during battles, etc. But most translations of the word Dís translated in Old Norse to "Lady", which is one of the same translations of Freyja, as Freyr and Freyja are "Lord" and "Lady". But then you have the many names used for Freyja, one being Vanadis, which they say means Lady of the Vanir (Vanir is one of the tribes of gods), but also some believed it meant that she was "the great dís" or Lady of the Disir Vanir, but it is known that they would call Freyja "Queen of the Valkyrie" and by translations possibly leader of the Dís, which then leads to more questions on the connection between the 2 (dís and Valkyrie). It’s known that Odin had his group of Valkyrie but that he had a group of "women" called "Odins Dís". Then you have 2 celebrations throughout the year, Disablot and disthing (this one has different names) which seem to mark the coming and going of winter, but also were more secretive and mainly within the home, some believed to be drawing down the ancestors magic from the alfar (elves) which with Freyja association to being "mistress of the home" (gets into the debate on her a frigg) and the name of the celebration may not have been the elves but the Dís possibly either as female ancestors or believe in ancestral connections to minor gods as a societal whole. Considering it wasn't uncommon for nobility to claim ancestry of some of the more famed gods (Odin, Freyr, etc)
Of course, Freyja is now a major goddess, if she wasn't before or even if she and Frigg were once the same being. They are now spilt just as Freyja is now much more important, but seeing the translation of Vanadis possible as "The great Dís" and Freyja having a connection to Gullvieg being Freyja and the connection to Freyja having rulership over Seiðr, etc. Could connect her to have been simply a leader of the Dís and or Valkyrie, and maybe it wasn't even her actual name considering Freyja translates to Fraujō in proto-Germanic, which becomes Frau in modern German, Frau means "woman" leading to the idea Freyja meant "Mistress" or "Lady" which is a title, not a name, which is interesting anyways. But of course, taking into account Old Norse poetry all the gods had different names and kennings. Which could mean we lost her original name.
The myths never actually show her as a Vølva but her association with magic gives us the idea she is along with the repeated idea that she was a goddess of sacrifices and that she was a “priest” in some texts, with the further association to gullveig this leads to the association that she could be a volva.
She has been described as having a chariot pulled by cats but they’re most likely domestic house cats based on the translations in stories the words used to mean only “cats” and if they were lynx or larger cats many translators believe the word directly referred to those animals would’ve been used instead, many older stories passed down orally mainly referred to her cats to be larger but we have no further evidence for either side.
Historical worship/practice
She had a fertility cult in the Viking age that stopped due to Christianity and a cult that lasted up until Snorri's age and time but that stopped soon after.
Hǫrg hann mér gerði, hlaðinn steinom,nú er griót þatat gleri orðit; rauð hann í nýionauta blóði, æ trúði Óttarrá ásynior (Hyndluljóð st. 10).
(He’s made a sanctuary for me, faced with stone, now that stone has turned to glass; he’s reddened it with fresh ox blood, Ottar has always trusted in the goddesses.)
This is one of the only examples of her worship or any goddess worship in the texts.
She and Frigga were called on during childbirth, and historically, our source came from a midwife.
In history, women of higher status would be named after Freyja in a sense being called “Fruvur” (ladies). Referring to the text before we see that many women who ruled over the household would be titled in her honor showing her ruling over the home at those times.

Loki Needs A Hug Masterlist
A Place In Time (ao3) - SnakeCharmer2023 loki/mobius T, 7k
Summary: Loki knew what he'd signed up for, replacing the loom at the end of time and sitting alone on the throne.
But what if the end didn't have to be forever?
A fix-it fic after the ending of series 2, because my heart can't take it.
Beautiful Figments (ao3) - mudgems M, 104k
Summary: “Hold on,” Stark says, attempting flippancy but falling well short of the mark. “I’m confused.”
“I think that makes two of you,” Rhodes says under his breath, but his visible concern remains.
Vision is not confused. If anything, he thinks the situation is suddenly, painfully, clear. “You do not remember yourself, do you?” he asks gently, and Loki finally meets his eyes. The hollow fear Vision sees there is obvious, and he wonders why he did not notice it before.
Broken Beyond Repair (ao3) - kittyhazelnut T, 31k
Summary: Loki had committed treason on a level Asgard had never seen. He would not be welcome back to his home realm. He would remain at the mercy of those he tried to control: the humans, SHIELD, and, of course, HYDRA.
By the time the Avengers come knocking HYDRA's door, Loki's long gone in every sense but the physical. Fortunately, even in his silent, fearful state, he's managed to make some friends. Wanda and Pietro won't let anyone hurt him. The Avengers are nothing but a threat, and Ultron makes them a promise that they'll be free of those so-called heroes soon enough.
(Basically, it's an Age of Ultron au where Wanda and Pietro have adopted a very broken Loki and they're determined to keep him safe.)
Brother (ao3) - Lynsds T, 24k
Summary: Overwhelmed with grief after Loki's apparent suicide, Thor is overjoyed to hear that his brother may be alive, if not well, and invading Midgard. It's not Odin that sends him there, but Frigga, and in this world, Thor is ready to observe and to listen.
It's not just Loki who has a lot of healing to do. But they're not alone anymore, and where there's life, there's hope.
For Eternity (ao3) - himynameisv T, 2k
Summary: Sometime during his centuries of self-imposed time loops, Loki begins to hallucinate Thor.
This is perhaps not the best indication of his current mental status.
Free Fall (ao3) - Daffanddahlodil N/R, 14k
Summary: Loki tries to function after learning of his adoption, but he’s not doing as well as he’d hoped.
Here, Here, and Here (ao3) - AuroraWest M, 68k
Summary: Loki and Thor have returned to Earth after two and a half years in space, and Loki, even after a winter in New Asgard, isn't sure he'll ever feel at home.
It doesn't help that as the alien who invaded New York City in 2012, he's been placed on probation by the UN for six months. If he can go six months without leaving New Asgard and without causing any trouble, he'll be free to visit anywhere he pleases on Earth. It's only six months. He can handle it.
Except Loki is bored. And what harm would it do if he just broke his probation a tiny bit? What are they going to do—send him to prison?
Well, yes. Yes, as it turns out. That's exactly what they're going to do.
In The Dark Alone (ao3) - every_oak_tree G, 17k
Summary: It starts at the end, really, with Ragnarök, with Asgard's fall (but Loki's been falling for longer, hasn't he?). It starts with the Mad Titan and the Statesman's explosion. It starts with a dead brother, his broken body sprawled on a spaceship's floor, miles and miles away from a home that no longer exists.
___ Something stirs inside Loki. He acknowledges that this is what he wants—but not all he wants. A newfound anger makes its way into his heart, surrounding it with an impenetrable wall of ice. He will be stronger this time, ruthless and unforgiving. Because when the world has taken everything, when they have stripped you off your armour and left you for dead, you have nothing more to lose. He can do better—no, he will do better. There is no alternative. You either die a loser or live to see yourself become a winner.
___ Or: where Thor dies at the Stateman instead of Loki, but his death will not go unavenged.
Loved and Lost (ao3) - forever_whippoorwill loki/mobius G, 4k
Summary: Loki hadn't realized how much he had missed the man's comforting presence until he was here and he could see it. Let me sit here, Loki's bones begged, at the sight of Mobius just out in his yard, and watch the wind blow through your hair and ruffle it in all the ways I want to.
He was too tired to keep that thought from running through his mind.
Old Habits (ao3) - Yavvys G, 7k
Summary: Odin knows that Loki will not change - not a cycle, not a hundred cycles later. But still, weak hope and smoldering feelings pull him towards the new guise of his adopted son, and the All-Father goes to visit the reborn god.
Once More, With Feeling (ao3) - NovaWasTaken1 T, 25k
Summary: Loki survives Thanos' attack on the Statesman by the skin of his teeth, the Tesseract, and a suicidal plan to save Asgard or die trying.
This changes less than you might think.
rest your eyes, weary god (ao3) - panthor loki/mobius N/R, 3k
Summary: Something blooms in their chest with that touch, something they try their hardest to push back down. As they walk, Loki thinks about how kind Mobius has been to them tonight. Tender, even. Enough to where they let their guard down enough to sleep in front of him. As much as they hate to admit it, Mobius has shown them more humanity than almost anyone else in their life. Despite where he works, Loki can see the empathy radiating from Mobius.
or
Mobius is just a nice guy.
Stay With Me (ao3) - Bookwormgal T, 17k
Summary: Loki had lost almost everything important to him, one way or another. His place in the timeline, his family, his sense of identity, his purpose, Sylvie... Even his first true friend was snatched away, along with the familiar version of the TVA.
But part of what makes a Loki was that they never give up. He would claw his way back and reclaim some of what was taken from him. So he searched through countless versions of the TVA until he found his way back to the right one. The one that had the right Mobius.
And if fate wished to steal him away in a more permanent way, it would have to fight Loki for him. He refused to lose anything else.
Toil and trouble (ao3) - AnsibleMechanic T, 44k
Summary: “When he made it back to Asgard and managed to outwit Odin himself, he only thought of ensuring his own freedom and survival. When Thor refused the throne (his brother chose the worst time to grow wiser), Loki was still delirious in his glee of finally making the biggest, funniest joke in all the realms – the lying Jotun trickster on the throne, and not a soul suspects it!”
Loki didn’t just eat grapes and watched amateur theatre in his dad’s robes for five years. Everything from TR canon is thrown to the wolves, and we have Loki having mental health consequences of his actions in various locations, with some inter-realm politics thrown in, with eventual relocation to the Avengers Tower (in true 2012 fashion) for more angsting and agonising. Hopefully with some friends we found along the way.
to see the world (as you do) (ao3) - T, 16k
Summary: When Odin finds a newborn babe in the war-torn wasteland that is Jotunheim, he takes it home; Frigga is the one to insist they must treat it as their own, and Odin loves her, so he obliges.
And then she dies, and Odin has no time for a child that only reminds him of the very thing he lost - he barely has time for his own young, grieving son.
So he locks it in the Vault, and calls it a trophy from the frozen realm.
or
All Loki knew for a long, long time were there four walls that held them, and the distorted view into the room beyond - filled with trinkets they couldn't name.
There were flashes of something else, of a woman who held them close and hummed lullabies, of a boy with hair like the sun, and a bright blue sky - but the memories were insubstantial and fleeting, slipping through their fingers like smoke.
You Screamed For So Long We Forgot To Care Anymore (ao3) - GalaxyThreads T, 126k
Summary: Five months after Thor drags his half-dead brother to Earth to plead asylum, things take a turn for the worse. With the older Asgardian out of commission and a sizeable threat overshadowing them, Clint becomes aware of two facts: One: Loki was tortured, mind-controlled, and manipulated into attacking Earth. Two: Loki knows none of this. (gen, no smut)

Revenge on who? R u one of those 2011 loki supremacy ppl
Loki deserves revenge because
He was abused by Odin and Thanos
He was tricked into killing his own biological father
He lead the Dark Elves straight to Frigga on accident
His own adopted father (Odin) only took him in as a peace treaty. Loki was used as literal blackmail
Thanos killed Loki before he was allowed to process his trauma
Thanos even hypnotized him with the space stone to make him take over New York
Thanos tortured Loki
He was always taught that Frost Giants were evil, murderous creatures and Thor even declared that when he’s king, he’ll slay them all…Loki is a frost giant.
And that’s all in the MOVIES. There’s so much more in the Loki series and comics.
Loki lost a bet to the dwarfs and had his mouth sown shut.
Iokl (616 Loki) had to kill Kid Loki and Old King Loki
And so much more…

Friday the 13th
I wouldn't be much of a blog about folklore and superstition if I didn't take Friday the 13th into account, now would I? I also wouldn't be much of a tumblr blog if I didn't acknowledge one of tumblr's mini-holidays. So what makes Friday, especially the 13th one, so special and just how did it all get started?
Let's start with the number 13 since that's fish in a barrel. Or is it? For instance a lot of us were always taught that the number thirteen was considered unlucky because that's the number of disciples that sat down with Jesus for his Last Supper and obviously that didn't end well. In fact, in Victorian times, having thirteen dinner guests was believed to be courting death for you or someone else at the table.
On an interesting aside note, there was apparently a club in the late 1800s, started by a man named William Fowler that used to meet for dinner on the 13th night of every month to sit down to a thirteen course meal in room number 13 of the club Fowler owned. After they walked underneath a ladder to get to the table of course. Four US presidents, including our hearty Teddy R, were members at one time or another. The club was simply called, what else? The Thirteen Club.
There might be more to the number thirteen's public image than just a divine dinner gone horribly wrong however. Or - more than one divine dinner gone horribly wrong. Tradition has it that in Norse mythology, Loki became the thirteenth dinner guest to show up at the feast where he would then go on to trick Baldr's blind brother Hodr into killing him. Baldr's death was seen as the beginning of the end for the Norse gods.
Thirteen is also the victim of being the sibling immediately following the 'golden child' of numbers, 12. In some circles, the number 12 is considered the perfect number. There were 12 loyal disciples of Jesus, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules and 12 months in a year. What can you be after following such sheer popularity but unpopular?
The Code of Hammurabi, the oldest recorded set of laws, skips law number 13. Most historians chalk that up to clerical error but its enough to make others speculate.
Friday though is usually seen as a good thing, at least in our modern world where it marks the last day of work before a weekend of freedom for both workers and school children. There's even a chain restaurant named TGIF, the positivity associated with Friday is so ingrained. Friday, going back to our Norse myths, was also considered 'Frigga's day', an extremely lucky day to get married on since it was the day dedicated to the goddess of homes and families. By itself, Friday seems a perfectly fine day, even one with good associations.
Slip it back just a bit however and we're right back to the Last Supper and the subsequent 'Good Friday' and a crucifixion. Friday's bad timing doesn't stop there either. In some Christian traditions, Friday is also the day that Adam and Eve ate the fruit that got them booted from Eden; its the day that Cain killed Abel; its the first day of Noah's flood and its also the day the Temple of Solomon fell. None of those have actual dates in the Bible, much less weekdays assigned to them, but the tradition persists. By itself, Friday might squeak by but when you add a 13 on the end, suddenly its not getting off so easily anymore.
What might have helped seal the deal about Friday the 13th, in at least the European conscious , happened in 1307, when King Philip IV of France had the Knights Templar, one of the most powerful, wide-spread and well-known military organizations of the time, rounded up, tortured and put to death. The date? October the 13th.
It was a Friday.

Heimdall and Thor's mother genuinely like Jane without even meeting her. Others don't like it or don't care.
When Odin threw him on a backwater planet, he didn't know his son will find the next Queen there. As is shown, he has had many lovers before in his 1500-year-long life, but with Jane, everyone just knows he's dead serious about her.
Also, everyone just knows what happened on Midgard: Odin in his Odinsleep, Loki makes a r*pey comment about paying her a visit (what the f?), Sif and Frigga talk about her (though this could be Sif recounting her experience on Midgard to the All-Mother but the point is that they know), and of course, the all-seeing Heimdall.
I'm assuming the word spread (accentuated by the Warriors Three) and the general public also has an inkling about their Crown Prince's dalliance with a Midgardian maiden on his exile.
1. Odin is obv unapproving because she's not a blue blood like them - a royal or even an Aesir. She is as far away from being an ideal daughter-in-law as she can be. He pushes for Sif. And his argument for that is this:
*clenches fist* We need to talk about this line.
This is his view of a Queen, that she'd serve the King like a servant by bearing him children and present herself to being used by him whenever he pleases. That's vile.
He's not in favor of Sif, he just wants Not-Jane. Anyone but a lowlife Midgardian. Why? Because her flimsy lifetime makes her unfit to 'serve' the King. And an Aesir woman would be able to do it better. The Aesir women 'lying' in front of him like things!
What's worse is that Thor doesn't even react to his father's abhorrent way of thinking :(, he's so used to it. Thor would never treat his Queen this way, jeez! But Reddit and Tumblr keep telling me how great it is that Thor is given parallels with this man in Thor3 and Thor4 as tho he was a positive influence on him :)
I thought Odin would eventually come around on Jane but his hostility only increases when Frigga dies 'because of her'. And he just never approves of her till he lived, not even for his son's sake :( I headcanon that Odin stayed near Thor and Jane's home when he was exiled by Loki and saw how happy Thor was with her.
2. Loki is actually understanding of how much wrong Thor is doing to himself by setting himself up for much bigger hurt. He should cut ties now when it will hurt less rather than later when she dies in a fraction of his lifetime anyway, leaving a gaping hole in his heart.
He's right but no one understands the predicament my man was stuck in. He had already done what Loki is saying by breaking his promise and not going back so Jane could move on with her life and contented himself with looking at her from Asgard. But when she got in mortal danger because she was looking for him, he can't just leave her now. He had to do justice to her this time, All-Father be damned.
I find it fascinating that Odin's opinion of Jane was about kingship and Loki's was about love and companionship.
3. Frigga and Heimdall are fully approving of her :D She has all but accepted her as her daughter-in-law and given her blessings to them. She died saving her. What more can you ask of her?!
And Heimdall is the only one who knows about his longing for her (that little laugh when he first asks her if he can see her at the end of Thor1). He knows how much Thor hurt himself by asking about her every day when he was never going to go back.
Also, I'm certain the Aesir people will be pretty accepting of her as their Queen, given how peaceful they're shown to be. :)

Ranni: Loki or Queen Medb?
Weird question, I know, but just lemme explain myself first. Before the release of the game, both Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin stated that this game would borrow many elements from both Norse and Celtic mythologies to create the setting and lore for Elden Ring, and it's pretty obvious to see.
Most of the demigods that make up the family of Radagon, Rennala, and Marika more closely mirror to the Aesir of Norse myth than anything else, though certain relations and inspirations aren't exactly 1 to 1 with the myth, but it's fine. So let's start comparing our Empyreans and see what we can gather through process of elimination.
-Radagon is obviously our Thor counterpart, what with the red hair, signature hammer, and tendency to kill Giants.
-Marika is a little less obvious, but I'm inclined to say she's our Odin, seeing as how she's the head of the Golden Order and is most known for hanging high above the ground, much like how Odin hung himself to gain the knowledge of the universe.
-Radahn could be our Tyr, the god of war, but that's about it when it comes to comparisons.
-Malenia is not just our signature Valkyrie Lady, but I would bet money that she's our Frigga/Freyja equivalent, as she's the Queen of the Valkyries, and Malenia leads a group of other like-minded women who share some aspects of her moveset.
-Rhykard is our Jormungandr/Midgardsormr, being the serpent of blasphemy and leading the charge to destroy the Golden Order much like the World Serpent himself. You could make the argument that he's also Nidhoggr, which is also valid, but I see that more with Messmer than anything, as he's the only other snake related character.
-Maliketh being Fenrir is another one, as the canine son of Loki was the one to ultimately kill Odin in the myth during Ragnarok, so Marika controlling the Rune of Destined Death makes sense.
-Morgott could be our Heimdall, as he's the last bastion of the Golden Order before the player character makes their way to the final portion of the game.
-This one is probably a stretch, but Godrick could be Sleipnir? Odin's horse is the only one that comes to mind when making comparisons for the bosses of Elden Ring as they both have an unnatural amount of limbs, so eh? Also, Sleipnir is a horse and Godrick is just a freak with an inferiority complex, so that's both reasons why Odin/Marika doesn't want him that much lmao
-The Fire Giant is more likely than not Surtr, as he's the only literal fire giant in Norse Mythology that would aid in the destruction of Asgard with his giant sword, or I guess in the case of Elden Ring, a giant trash can lid.
And that's all I can really think of off the top of my head for the Norse side of the equation, but the question remains: where does Ranni fit into all of this? Well, one of my theories is that I'm at least 95% confident she's our Loki. How so? Well, I coincidentally left out one other demigod out of the list, and for good reason. Godwyn the Golden was the first ever demigod to be slain by mysterious assailants, ordered by daughter of Radagon and Rennala, Ranni the Witch. It sounds awfully familiar to the Death of Beldr, the invincible god of light, who was struck down by a dart or arrow made of mistletoe crafted by Loki, the god of mischief. Beldr's death would usher in total chaos and was the first step into the inevitable apocalypse of the Norse pantheon. The Black Knife Assassins were the mistletoe, Godwyn was Beldr, and Ranni the Witch is our Loki.
That should be the end of the discussion, no? We figured out the comparison pretty neatly, didn't we? Well, yes and no. Ranni being Loki makes perfect sense in my book, but we forgot to mention anything related to the Celtic myths that were also a big inspiration for Elden Ring. And they are indeed a pretty big part when talking about the Hornsent, the Carian scholars of Raya Lucaria, and so many others.
Rennala of the Full Moon, mastery of the glintstone school of magic, is probably the game's version of Danu, mother goddess of the Tuatha De Danaan, pantheon of the Irish gods. Her leadership over the school and mother to half the demigods on our list gives weight to the theory of her being out Queen goddess of the Tuatha De.
Mohg and the rest of the Hornsent could be categorized as Fomorians, enemies to the Tuatha De. They represent many things, such as death, destruction, and other stereotypical "evil" things, which make sense. They were lepers of the Golden Capital, ridiculed and shunned away from the light of the Erdtree, our Yggdrasil of the game, for they were deemed cursed and unholy creatures. Mohg himself was seen by the community as one of the only truly evil characters until the DLC came out.
Godfrey could very well be our Dagda, king of the Tuatha De and first Elden Lord. The Dagda is the pinnacle of strength and manliness, which couldn't be any more truer of a statement than that. Godfrey shatters the very ground beneath his feet with just his body alone, and isn't above just thrashing the player character with the might of a hundred wrestlers and with the discipline of a tavern brawler.
Blaidd, everyone's favorite wolf man, is our Setanta or Cu Chullain, the Hound of Chullain, and son of Lugh of the Tuatha De. The fact that he's a werewolf kinda makes the connection between the two characters have a little bit more staying power. A strong warrior who also can be described as a crazed beast in battle makes sense for the beastman with a giant sword. Too bad Cu Chullain died after his revolt against Queen Medb after killing leagues of her own soldiers.
But who is Queen Medb? Well, in the myth, she was a lover of many men, warrior queen to many soldiers, and master strategist in times of war and conquest. Later years would call her a descendant of the fae, as other Celtic stories tend to go, but that isn't always the case. She was however the last opponent Cu Chullain would face before she ordered all the sons of all the soldiers he killed and sworn enemies to the Hound to chain him and kill him with his own weapon. Some iterations of the tale would say one of the reasons for her antagonism towards Cu was his refusal to sleep with her or take her hand in marriage, though that would be an incorrect summary of what happened there. But I think Elden Ring takes that one step further.
If Ranni is to be our Queen Medb, then her one true follower, Blaidd, our stand in for Cu Chullain, would be a kind of ironic take on the myth. Blaidd wants so badly to be the witch's consort, but she refuses his advancement, and seeks the player character out for their hand in marriage instead after furthering her questline far enough. She wants to erase this world and remake it in her image, with us by her side, even barring her trusted Hound. A fun, yet twisted take on the killing of the warrior formerly known as Setanta.
So I ask the audience once again: is Ranni Loki or is she Queen Medb? Or is she both? Or maybe she's neither and is instead a secret third thing? (I also would have said Scathach, Cu's mentor, as she is also a demigod who's proficient in magic, but I like the Medb theory more cuz it's funnier) I'll let y'all decide on that one in the comments. Personally for me, it could go either way, but I'm more leaning towards Loki, since there's a stronger connection there than the Medb argument, as the only real reason I brought that side up is because Blaidd just resembles Cu Chullain way too much for me to ignore.
Also, please don't ask me about who I think the Fingers, Astel, or the Elden Beast are supposed to be. My knowledge of both Norse and Celtic myths only goes so far, so until further notice or I'm proven otherwise, I'm just gonna say they're either fairies and/or representations of Christianization. That's all from me BYE

Unpopular Opinion \ / @fellstcr \ / not accepting
🔥 (their parents) 🔥 (loki, character) 🔥 (mcu fandom??) 🔥 freebie!!
I have a lot of ground to cover, but here we go!! (apologies in advance, the last one gets p long)
Frigga is not as good of a mom as everyone wants to say.
Now with that being said, Frigga is a good mom... but that's pretty much only regulated to Loki rather than both Thor AND Loki |D I have a lot of headcanons about Frigga being his main caretaker especially when he was a baby. And as Loki grew up he just had more of her temperament and obviously, his being magically inclined helped a lot in them becoming so close as well since she was able to able to teach him her own gifts with sorcery, essentially passing down her teachings to him.
But it's so clear in the films just how much she struggles to connect to Thor in the same way. She does her best but considering even she believes that Thor + Odin cast big shadows and that Loki learning her magic was his light, indicates pretty clearly to me that she never properly bothered to connect to Thor on his side of things. That and she can't comfort Thor properly when they are together, but she is literally able to read Loki like an open book.
Now I do think that of course, she loved both of her kids. Thor is actually her child, and I don't think she ever fully meant to favor Loki over him. It's just kind of how it happens when it feels like one child needs more attention than the other - That and I'm sure at some point Odin was taking a much greater role in Thor's life (which Loki was clearly envious of to a degree) and I think she absolutely would have been the biggest advocate for both of their well beings. (and ofc in terms of Thor she was his biggest support with Jane and I think that's very good of her to do too)
But let's not forget here. Frigga was just as complicit in lying to Loki about his heritage as Odin was. And I think personally if Odin did not love Loki at all he would not have hesitated to make it clear that Loki isn't his son at all times. I just think it's too easy to make Frigga out to be the better parent when she played favorites as much as Odin is perceived to. (lbr Odin of course was going to train Thor more than Loki. Thor is literally the oldest who was always going to become king. That's just how the system works and Loki knows that. I do think Odin neglected to give Loki enough affirmation, but people act like Odin was a fantastic father to Thor too when he really just wasn't.)
Loki would not be as interesting as a character without Thor.
They are the sun and moon. Hot and cold. Darkness and Light. Chaos and Order. At their best, they are an unstoppable team, and at their worst they are enemies. But no matter what, by blood or by oath they are brothers. B R O T H E R S.
Speaking strictly to Loki: he has never known his life without Thor in it. He was saved from death (NOT TAKEN) from Jotunheim and has spent his entire life since as a son of Odin. Where Thor struggles, Loki fills in his weaknesses, and vice versa. I see people get caught up in "Loki being weaker" and thus tearing down Thor in the process, but that couldn't be further from the truth. (also tearing down other characters to raise another up is actually lowering the bar for the second character to succeed and doesn't make them look better at all. In fact, it makes them look worse because the standard is now so low :))
Where Thor is very easily heated, Loki can help him focus. While Thor is a tank in combat, Loki is swift and able to take out enemies with precision and speed. Thor is intelligent particularly when it comes to people and he is very compassionate, while Loki focuses on being book smarts and being keen in debates and negotiations. It's SO obvious they really were meant to rule together, with Loki as an advisor to Thor as king. They have a dynamic with each other that is so neat and a bond that spans hundreds to a thousand years. You can't just tear that apart just because you like one character over another. Their stories are tied to each other, and in Tom's words "You can't have Loki without Thor, or Thor without Loki."
Has Thor done Loki wrong? Yes, absolutely. But Loki has equally done wrong by Thor, he is not innocent in that either. Being a shadow is not a bad thing, it's really not, in fact, I could absolutely argue that it is where Loki thrives tbch. But ultimately his origins are found in Thor, and trying to erase that is doing Loki a huge disservice.
Thorki is incestual in nature.
I'm not going to lie to ya, the fact that you ever have to say "Well technically they're not brothers" to ship them, I think makes it pretty clear that it's actually not a good ship LOL
Every time I mention that this is a thing to people not in fandom or in the Thor fandom, they are consistently appalled by it. And as they should be! I've actually seen fan-made comics of when the boys were kids crushing BEFORE THEY EVEN KNEW and that is just //gags
I really also need people to tag Thorki properly so that my filters can block those posts. I don't want nothin to do with that and I don't want it on my dash anymore <v< but that's kind of a whole other thing. I cccccan see why people do it, and I personally think Loki is attracted to people who are similar to Thor (i.e good hearts, heroes, sunshine personality, hopeful, kind, etc.) which is also why I don't think Sylki works as a ship either outside of the selfcest - but I could go on a whole other tangent about them tbh.
Gimme my good wholesome brothers who are just doing sibling things. Not every single pairing of people needs to have romantic inclinations, they can just be very close as friends or family. The boys grew up together for a thousand years, and you're seriously trying to tell me that suddenly both of them abandon their roots to be romantic?? Buddy that is not how that works and don't make no sense at aaaaaall.
Platonic soulmates are just as valid as Romantic ones.
TVA Loki and MCU Loki are not the same, and I won't be gaslit into thinking otherwise by directors who don't care about Loki in general.
I don't know why this is a trend at all, but it seems like the character of Loki keeps getting handled by people who don't care for him in the slightest. Waititi completely sidelined him in gagnarok (in favor of totally misunderstanding Thor and Odin's dynamics) when that film needed to be about the boys properly recovering from the past decades worth of issues. And then in the Loki show that director stopped making him the main character AT ALL as soon as Sylvie showed up.
Anyways, the whole entire point of the Loki show, is that there are multiple dimensions (which they call timelines stupidly) in which multiple variations of every exist. The people in them are supposed to be similar but clearly have slightly different characteristics (see Boastful Loki or Croc Loki) while they all have the same events. And in the show, he straight up does not act the same as he does in the Thor films.
And with that said, we go back to the main topic which is "these two Loki's are actually not the same person."
- First of all, Loki is not a narcissist. A narcissist is defined as "a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves." which Loki has NEVER had. Ever. In any of his film appearances. Being ambitious (and occasionally selfish) is entirely different, but Loki does not admire himself to an unhealthy degree. The only thing the show gets right is that Loki is deeply fearful and insecure, but the fact that he says it outright is just bad writing. - Second of all, Loki is not flighty or talkative. Loki is famous for having a silver tongue, but that does not mean he rambles on and on about a point or uses big words just use them. Actually intelligent people do not need to fake it to prove that they are smart. Loki uses his words exactly when he means to, and doesn't use metaphors/hyperbole at every given opportunity. ( do not confuse Fanon Loki with what Loki is actually like in the films. ) Loki can quip but he never does it excessively. In the show, Loki is constantly moving and fidgeting something fierce when he is typically very still and planted. - THIRD of all, Loki has never been someone who relies on magic as much as TVA does in the second season. Loki is an Asgardian warrior, trained by the best of the best to be an absolute master at combat. Loki primarily relies on daggers using the Ice pick technique (which is actually extremely difficult to master btw), which allows him to be swift in a fight and take out his opponents with deadly precision. Of course, Loki uses his cleverness and magic in battle too, but he isn't out throwing balls of magic fire willy-nilly or making a big scene. Loki has never needed his magic to be good at fighting or keep up with Thor. Frankly, that is an impressive feat in itself that too many people put down for no reason. I'm all in favor of magic characters doing their magical thing, but high key Loki is so much cooler because he is strong enough to rely on magic that he has already mastered too. But this is not true for tva!loki who uses magic literally all of the time.
Now we could call all of this him being out of character, however, I think in the scope of the show it would make more sense to just have him be a different Loki entirely. Which would be fine, if they didn't try to constantly make him out to be exactly like mcu!Loki. They give him the memories of Avengers onward and then speed-run his development in like first episodes to make him have the same emotions WITHOUT actually any development.
Even if we are led to believe that tva!Loki and mcu!Loki started off the same, then they sTILL could never become the same as the Loki we know from 10 years' worth of films. mcu!Loki got to mourn for Frigga in the moment, sacrifice himself for Thor+Jane, lie about it again and take the throne from Odin, pretend to be Odin for several years, see him die, fight his crazy half-adopted sister, watch Asgard be destroyed, and then ultimately sacrifice himself AGAIN to save Thor ending his life.
tva!Loki watched it on a screen... and clearly was emotional about it, as one would be. But none of that is the same as Loki actually being able to experience it. I think I would like tva!Loki SO much more if they treated him like he was legitimately still in Avengers and still in the mindset that he wants to be king to prove to his brother/father that he could do it and is good enough to be a part of the family. And that he was a different Loki entirely.
Instead, the show completely erases his history and his character in favor of an annoying mix of taika!loki and fandom!loki and it's just cringy to watch honestly. The Loki show is just so bad in terms of writing, lore, characterization, humor, and continuity, and now that they're getting rid of Kang the Conqueror, the whole show is completely obsolete! :D

loki prevents odin from doing any further direct damage to his family members, but he's also undermining thor's disillusionment in odin. he is the enabler now. he presents thor with an illusion of an openly loving, forgiving and reasonable father because he is so desperate for them both to have one... and this lie holds thor back. this lie keeps mjolnir in thor's hand!!!

Someone caught thor begging his brother to put a child inside him in queen's garden, it was too much so they informed the allfather, only to hear a bored 'meh' from the king

April Fools Masterlist
Links Last Checked: April 13th, 2024
part two
A Fool's War (ao3) - happyaspie G, 3k
Summary: Tony has a grand and fabulous idea as to how to pull ahead in any and all prank wars amongst his teammates. An idea that involved, several hundred water balloons and a reluctant spiderling. ...and it was April Fools Day to boot. What could possibly go wrong?
An Electric Feel (ao3) - amidtheflowers bucky/darcy M, 1k
Summary: Their anniversaries in the past have always been wonderful, but Darcy locking herself in the bathroom has to be a first.
(April) Fools Day (ao3) - KillJoy998 steve/tony T, 3k
Summary: The one in which Tony hacks into SHIELD to mess with everyone's passwords as a joke.
April's Fool (ao3) - AvengersNewB steve/tony T, 4k
Summary: Steve asks Tony out on April Fools' Day, not realizing what day it is. Tony gets upset and rejects him. Tony can't believe Steve would mock him like this. Steve can't believe Tony would reject him like that. There is a bit of a twist though, and Steve might need to take matters in his own hands.
april skies (ao3) - rainnorwind steve/bucky T, 654
Summary: Steve pulls a dumb prank. Bucky is kind of hopelessly in love with him.
Fish Day (ao3) - SharoScylla T, 9k
Summary: Pranks are basically the foundation for everything.
Everything that is AWESOME.
Give and Take (ao3) - ani_bester G, 569
Summary: April Fool's day, Bucky has pranked everyone. Everyone but Steve. And now Steve is on edge.
Gotcha ? (ao3) - screamingarrows (orphan_account) steve/tony N/R, 2k
Summary: Steve's not sure how it escalated this far. Honestly he isn't. It was- it was just supposed to be a joke.
In which Steve doesn't know what qualifies a bad prank and basically ruins the day.
Loki's First April Fool's Day (ao3) - CreativeReading darcy/loki, frigga/odin, jane/thor G, 6k
Summary: Loki celebrates his favorite new holiday, but his wife, Darcy, disapproves of his antics.
Not Your April Fool (ao3) - Hollyspacey steve/tony E, 2k
Summary: Tony is nervous about being around Darcy on April Fools' but Darcy is interested in much more than playing pranks.
Rock It, Rip It, Roll It (ao3) - amidtheflowers bucky/darcy E, 2k
Summary: Darcy joining the Manhattan roller derby team ends up being a very, very good thing for Bucky. Maybe a little too good.
Secret Library (ao3) - amidtheflowers darcy/loki E, 2k
Summary: It's not every day the Allfather of the universe hates a young Midgardian girl, but Darcy guesses she's just that special. Luckily, Loki is more than willing to help.
The April Fool's Babies (ao3) - StuckySituation steve/bucky T, 4k
Summary: “I’m pregnant,” Bucky says, and the first feeling that Steve experiences is relief.
Granted, that might sound surprising, but Steve knows what day it is, and this -- Bucky, with his hair a tangled, sweaty mess, leaning against the doorframe, with a big, brown envelope in his hand and his face carefully blank and neutral -- at last explains the horrible week and clears Steve’s mind from his fears and worries.
“Oh, good,” Steve says and sits down at the kitchen table.
Nothing is wrong with Bucky, after all. The sleepless nights, the haunted look that has been shadowing his face for days, everything must have been just set up for the prank.
This is by far stranger prank than any of those Bucky used to pull, but at the same time, it’s not that surprising. His sense of humor has become understandably a lot more twisted after the Hydra years.
“Good?” Bucky says. “What the fuck, Steve?”
“I mean, uh. Wow! Surprising. How did that happen?”
The First of April (ao3) - Ralkana clint/phil T, 1k
Summary: Tony Stark. April Fools' Day. 'nuff said.
The One Where It's April 1st (ao3) - thefatedthoughtofyou sam/bucky T, 1k
Summary: It's April fools day and Sam decides to fuck around. And, well, you know how the saying goes, fuck around and find out. Sam definitely finds out.
