Kaijudo Headcannons: Recruitment of Masters
Okay it's kinda implied in the show that Kaijudo is either passed down in the family like with Ken and Isao or you are spotted with great potential by a member in the Order like with Ray, Allie and Gabe
Either way you are tested by the Order in how to handle mana and how quickly you can pick it up in one day, if not you're memory is erased.
Here are my takes on how I think the Masters got recruited:
Hector
For Hector I feel like he got recruited from his family
For this reason it's because I believe working with Fire Creatures takes a long time especially with how uncontrollable and are very destructive they are in nature
I feel like Fire Specialist are mostly those who were trained by family members who learn how to fight with such fiery creatures and have a passed down teachings and certain practices
It's also implied in the show there can be certain side effects when training in certain civilizations, shown with Allie when letting darkness taking over
When working with Fire Civilization you must have a literal spark in order to train with Fire Creatures specifically
However that spark can take over and become in it's essence rage and a destructive force
Hector learned from family how to control and be more tame when working with Fire Civilization
I think that's why his character is so calm and tame because he had to learn to control the fire within when he was an acolyte himself
When it comes to families who train in Fire, most often than not all children are expected to train and learn the teachings
I'll get into it in another post, but when it comes to some families, especially those held at a high standard because of their long history with the Order they are most likely grew up with Kaijudo their whole lives as children
Hector's family was one of the few that had such a high standard that he grew up with Kaijudo his whole life and expected to carry on a certain legacy of his family
Nadia
Nadia was spotted by a Water Specialist
I feel like when those from the Order spot outsiders to join they usually will spot characteristics with civilizations
So with Nadia she was mostly likely spotted for her keen desire to keep expanding her knowledge, her control over her emotions and ability to be flexible
It's not just characteristics associated with civilizations though, it's also showing bravery and being able to face the unknown especially when it comes with dealing with dangerous creatures
With Nadia she was spotted off the streets and used her smarts to get herself around
But she also expressed a level of justice and most likely got spotted when she was defending someone
Kimora
He was also spotted
With nature, you have to express commitment and loyalty
It's like when you take care of plants, they take time and patience to keep them alive and require compassion and a sense of duty
However Kimora was initially spotted by showing characteristics of bravery and loyalty
It wasn't until after he was officially joined the Order that he began showing his strong alignment with nature
I feel with nature as well you have to show a sense of community, a lot of Nature Creatures seen in the show are most often than not with a group, like with the Quillspikes or Bronze-Arm Tribe
As a acolyte, he trained a lot in groups, helped those around him and thrived in being with others
It wasn't until Kimora showed more of these characteristics that he was more committed to a Nature Civilization training
Jaha
She was definitely recruited by family
Like Fire, it's another civilization to master, you can easily give into the darkness and become corrupt
Those who train in Darkness Civilization have to be guided by specialists and learn how to not let it take over
However not just anyone in the family can be trained compared to families who train in Fire
Children of families that train in Darkness are hand selected and picked from the very best
The Darkness can easily manipulate you and families themselves will often do their own tests to their children to see if they can handle it
With Jaha, she absolutely had to prove to her family she can handle it, showing how cunning and resourceful she is
Just like Hector, Jaha also has a legacy to carry on from her family
It's why Jaha takes up Allie as her protege, teaching her the ways of how her family taught her since Jaha wants to pass down what her own family was taught
Nigel
It can really go either or for me
Spotted or from a family
But because he's absolutely never strays from the rules, I feel like he does come from a family that comes from some sort of line of Light
Not a very high standard one like Jaha or Hector, but definitely a more recent and small family
Nigel was held up at a standard from a very young age
He was taught from day one to follow the rules and can never stray
From trauma of being taught these strict ways and forced into the role it's why Nigel betrayed the Order as well
He can't bring himself to go against what he was taught his whole life because it's so foreign and most likely frightens him if he strays
Nigel also holds himself at a high standard and even though he cut ties with his family, he still can't help think about the disappointment and guilt if he strays from the rules
So yeah here are some Kaijudo Headcannons and how I think the Masters were recruited, let me know what you think!

In the Kaijudo X Trollhunters Crossover, do some members of Team Kaijudo go to the Darklands to save Jim? Whats Gunmar's reaction to seeing Kaijudo warrior and their creature partners?
It's Ray who follows after Jim. He came up with an alternate plan of escape by warping to the Veil from the Darklands specifically the near Quillspike territory. No one wanted to risk opening up Killahead Bridge again as should Gunmar escape than the treaty would be completely broken.
Now the troll tyrant was banished after the Veil's creation and Gumm-Gumms loathe Kaijudo users. Their hate is so strong that not even Changelings surpass it. He can smell the Veil's mana than just whose a Kaijudo user. Gunmar wasn't happy when Ray busts through his fortress on Tatsurion's back and jail breaks Jim.
He practically wanted the acolyte's head to go alongside Bob's hide if the trollish curses were enough to go by. Gunmar was further livid when the three manage to evade his guards too. Rescuing Enrique has gotten harder as security has been beefed up afterwards.
Angering Gunmar will reap even more nasty consequences than just that.

Of course, when writing fanfiction, you can easily bend the rules of real injuries for certain characters. Characters known for having certain superpowers are going to experience certain injuries differently than how a real person would, just as a character with certain health conditions would have a different experience (two sides of the same coin).
I’ve written a couple stories where Sonic characters get hurt and each time I take into account that some of those characters have healing abilities the likes of which we can only wish for. Shadow, in “Green Stains”, gets an accidental arm cut and bleeds fairly profusely because it’s an arm cut, but because of his healing abilities all that bleeding stops in a timeframe that would never make sense for many other characters and it’s already healed over enough to allow for fur growth to begin a few minutes later. In “A Place For Her Name” there’s a subplot involving Sonic having both his legs broken, more specifically spiral fractures, due to a nasty fight with Eggman. Now, Sonic is another character that heals fast. (In the IDW comics there have been at least two stories where he gets a more run-of-the-mill ankle fracture in one leg and is able to keep going and also is completely fine the next day. All other signs point to him healing really quickly in most other circumstances.) But I needed there to be a reason for him to be carted off in an ambulance and have to stay in the hospital for a couple days. Now, spiral fractures are usually caused by violence. Like, don’t look them up unless you wanna be sad. And Sonic relies on his legs quite a bit, so having two broken legs would definitely be a big deal for him (without going into horror territory). Spiral fractures usually take a long time to heal because of the nature of how they occur. But Sonic heals fast, so while this is definitely going to debilitate him for a while, he’d probably be back to normal in about a week. He would still need medical attention for a few days, though…which is why “I need Shadow to visit Sonic in the hospital” turned into “Sorry, Sonic, this story involves Eggman brutally twisting your legs with a robot until the bones look like a spiral staircase, but you’ll get plenty of gifts about it!”
It also works backwards, by the way. For “Life is Stronger” I was specifically rewriting a plot point in which Sonic had received a fatal injury in canon, so that in my version he doesn’t get hurt at all. What made the most sense? Get Sonic to duck at the right moment, on the ground in a crawling position, so the Dark Chaos Lance doesn’t make contact with anything vital. But in 06, Sonic had long quills, so I figured that a realistic thing would be for a quillspike to get messed up. Just like a real hedgehog, Sonic’s quills protect him. So in my version of the story, he has a bad quill day, sure…but that’s way better than the DCL going audibly through his heart and lungs as we watch Mephiles dangle the poor boy in the air before dropping him to the ground to die. (I hate Mephiles.) So in my version Sonic is alive the whole time with no interruptions from stabby demonic activity.
I wish there was a website where you could input a character's description (height, weight, sex, medical conditions, etc.) And a situation (car crash, falls, stabbing, etc.) And it would calculate for you from most to least likely the injuries that character would receive, potential complications, and how long it would take recover. This would make writing injuries SO MICH EASIER if I wasn't guessing at everything

Why is Moorna mean to Tatsaurion?
So, I've been thinking about this for a while after rewatching a few clips of Kaijudo. In "Bring Me the Head of Tatsaurion the Unchained", we learned that Moorna set up an attack of Tatsaurion's Quillspike family out of pure spite. However, I feel like there's more to it than that. In another episode, Tatsaurion explained that his father was feared by all. Even his own family was scared of him. So, I couldn't help but wonder if Moorna was bullying Tatsaurion not only because he's a hybrid but she just wants an emotional punching bag since she can't face her own father!
I do wish we could've explored more of that family dynamic in the show. Mostly to better understand Tatsaurion's father as a character. It would also give a general idea of Moorna as a character as whole. If she really was afraid of her father and if her birth mother played a role into this twisted personality, it just makes her character sound more cowardly.

bad commander deck idea under readmore lmao
so for a while ive been kicking around the thought of using devoted druid as an engine to storm off-- as long as you can figure out how to replenish your hand, you can keep slapping efficient pump spells on her, which she can then turn directly into mana via her ability. the problem is that there’s just not enough draw spells or efficient pump spells to make her go off with regularity,,,
but then i realized that she’d interact really well in a specialized varolz the scar-striped commander deck... its green/black so it could run the dev druid/quillspike combo but also can use varolz’s ability to help feed REALLY efficient pumps onto your dev druid-- stuff like death’s shadow or phyrexian dreadnaught would read as +13 or +12 mana respectively and there’s a number of smaller creatures which could help pump things up. jam a bunch of black draw spells, stick a tendrils of agony in there for storm finish, and shotgun it out :3c
plus if the dev druid storm doesn’t work, you can always fall back on quillspike or just use the efficient beaters in your deck or have a few sacrifice synergies to help close things down. idk it seems like a cute notion

Cryptic Commander #9: Why Did it Have to Be Snakes
Don’t you just love it when a new Legendary Creature gets spoiled and you know it was meant to be? I got to experience that yesterday when a certain Commander-to-be got spoiled over Twitter, and man am I head-over-heels for this card. Let’s cut to the chase:
Tumblr media
(You see what I did there? The card was spoiled by Elaine Chase over on Twitter. You know what? It isn’t funny anymore. I had to explain it. Forget I said anything.)
So, brief personal aside on my experience with BG in Commander. I’ve tried to build a couple of different decks with the color combo, and I ultimately end up with what feels like the same deck. Graveyard Shenanigans.dek. There’s nothing wrong with graveyard decks, I’m just really tired of how the BG ones play out. Jarad and Meren did their best, but I could not be convinced to play BG after I finally took them apart. None of the other BG generals really appealed to me, from Nath of the Gilt Leaf to Sapling of Colfenor. Then they spoiled Hapatra, and the gears started turning immediately. I started playing Magic just before Scars of Mirrodin came out, so -1/-1 counters were part of my formative Magic experience. It has been too long since we had -1/-1 counters, and now they’re giving us a Commander in BG that cares about -1/-1 counters. Thank you based Wizards for bestowing this gift upon me and all the other lovers of -1/-1 counters in this game. We are truly #blessed.
So, what sort of things can you do with Hapatra? I suppose you could attack with her, suiting her up with a Whispersilk Cloak so she can get in unopposed and slowly build up counters and snakes for you. You could do that, and it’s probably a decent thing to include in whatever deck you build, just to have a back-up plan; but, I like to dream big. There are a handful of very playable Commander cards that like to throw -1/-1 counters around to every creature. Thanks to the wording on Hapatra, you won’t be rewarded for placing a bunch of -1/-1 counters on a single creature as part of the same affect (see “Whenever one or more” wording), but putting one counter on a bunch creatures means an army of snakes in the making. The following are some of the best at this:
Tumblr media
Black Sun’s Zenith for one has never been so rewarding! Paying three mana to weaken the entire board and make a bunch of snakes seems like a great plan. You could also just wrath the board and be the only one left with creatures at the end of it. Even if Hapatra dies in the process, you’ll still get all the snakes because she’ll see the counters placed on everything before hitting the bin. Carnifex Demon gives you another good, recurring source of -1/-1 counters. If you have a way to get counters on it besides the ones it comes into play with (like Hapatra’s ability or something like Gnarled Effigy), the demon can be a real problem. Contagion Engine kind of speaks for itself. Putting a counter on each of an opponent’s creatures and then proliferating twice will get you three separate triggers from Hapatra for three times the snakes. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg, the most obvious thing you can do.
Tumblr media
Alright, we’re starting to get somewhere now. Crumbling Ashes insures that you never have to commit too many counters to the same creature. It’ll die sooner or later anyway. Blowfly Infestation lets you recycle some of the counters from dying creatures for another Hapatra trigger and more value. Necroskitter makes those sweet creatures your opponents have work for you after they die with a counter on them. It’s finally time for Necroskitter’s day in the sun! However, you don’t just have to put counters on your opponents’ creatures. Have you considered putting counters on your own creatures?
Tumblr media
There are a couple of creatures that like to have -1/-1 counters on them for utility purposes. Blow up more artifacts by keeping your Wickerbough Elder fully stocked. Beat down hard with a resilient threat in the form of Deity of Scars. Grim Poppet lets you pinpoint the counters you want to disseminate and take out problematic creatures. You also have the option of throwing Quillspike into the deck for what can only be described as shenanigans. Quillspike will let you remove counters from any of your creatures, which means Persist creatures are gonna get to come back for multiple go-arounds. Puppeteer Clique and Woodfall Primus say hi! And that’s only the fair thing you can do with Quillspike. Turns out Quillspike goes infinite with Devoted Druid. Put a counter on Devoted Druid to untap it, tap it for a Green mana, use the Green mana to remove the counter with Quillspike’s ability, repeat ad infinitum. If you have Hapatra in play, this means infinite snakes. Seems pretty good to me, but treat infinite combos with care. It isn’t fun to lose to them, or win with them, all the time. Be nice about, huh?
Tumblr media
Considering how few sets have featured -1/-1 counters in the history of Magic, there are certainly a lot of cool things you can do with them. There’s even an Enchantment that basically has Hapatra’s ability, except it makes Elves instead. Flourishing Defenses. There’s all sorts of things you can do with a Hapatra deck, and I am really excited to try them out!
So, what do you think of the newest BG Legendary? New hotness or soon to be forgotten? Let me know what you think! Any cool interactions I might not have noticed? I would love to see them! Until then, enjoy the rest of spoiler season for Amonkhet and hopefully there will be even more Commander goodies to discuss.

As you are seemingly one of the few people left online who regularly posts about Kaijudo who are active and know much more than the casual enjoyer, how do you think the series would have gone if Ray was raised by his dad in the Creature realm? What would've had to happen for that to occur? How different would he be?
I honestly wish more people find Kaijudo as the chances of it getting another show and share the same care like what we had is scarce to say the least.
Ray being raised in the Creature realm would being a LOT of changes. The first is how the Veil can further affect his growth. Ray could become taller, stronger and have much more energy as the Nature Civilization holds the most raw mana unlike the other four.
His presence will also affect how his father acts throughout the show. The man might not lose his memories or acquire a more nomad life towards the Veil's inhabitants. I can see the two being merchants/paid helpers as a way to survive partly to keep Ray safe.
The boy would also become a target of the Choten. We know how capable his father is but Ray will interfere with any chance for manipulation. So the Choten could make the kid 'disappear' or kidnap him. Maybe Ray gets separated from his dad early on and is raised by a creature tribe like the Bronze Arm, possibly even Quillspike. He could meet Tatsurion early, allowing them to form their powerful bond faster.
Ray's mom would become more involved with the Kaijudo Masters since her son is the last remaining tether to keep her there. Avoiding her father in law outta pain as she lost not only her husband but also son. Gabe and Allie will eventually get dragged in with the Choten expanding his operations.
There is a lot of potential for Ray being raised in the Veil that's its hard to list it all.

Sticks and Stones can break my bones, but Hapatra’s words are poisonous~ Commander Challenge: Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
Welcome back to another Commander Challenge. Today I’ll be teaching you some valuable words, curses. Curses, slang, anything really. Remember children, words hurt.
Tumblr media
You can read the whole deck here.
This deck has a few win conditions.
Tumblr media
You generate mana off of druid, and keep putting a -1/-1 counter on her, you take the mana and use it for Quillspike, who then removes the counter from the Druid. If Hapatra is on the field, you make snakes. This can happen as early as turn four. That brings us to the second win condition; swarming. As long as you have the above combo out. Quillspike will never have to attack, as long as Hapatra, or any of our other Token producers are out.
Tumblr media
All of them read as “Play a card that makes a -1/-1 counter, get a token. IF somehow all three are on the field, you make a ton of Tokens. Remember, Nest of Scarabs makes insects that don’t fly! Now you might be thinking, what do we do if we can’t attack with all of our tokens?
Tumblr media
Ok, so let’s say you made ten tokens in one turn. With Cryptolith Rites out, you can make 10 mana the following turn. Now if you have tokens without Summoning Sickness, they can actually do that. Have Dictate of Erebos out, with either Perilous Forays out, or Sadistic Hypnotist out. With the mana you made from the tokens, you could either thin out your deck and search for basic lads. Or, the better route, make an opponent or two lose their hands. As you’re sacrificing tokens, Dictate of Erebos starts to kick in. So either you’re gaining advantage with ramp, or making them lose their hand and field. Remember, your words can hurt. Say that you’re sorry after doing this. The deck has a total of 16 cards that can give -1/-1 counters. Many of which, like
Tumblr media
Can give it to the whole board. We’re a very proactive deck. Most of our turns are going to be building up the combos, getting cards out to give the counters, or building up a field. With a total of 7 instants in the deck. We have one card to save our bacon, or veggies. Really whatever you food word you use to mean tokens. That card is
Tumblr media
We can indeed regenerate tokens. Now, it wont save us from Wrath, Damnation, or our own -1/-1 counters, but it does protect us from other threats. To respond to some threats, we have these
Tumblr media
Going with the fact that there are some Indestructible things, Kagemaro and Languish are here to use the -1/-1 counters, and finish them off. Decree of pain is here for two reasons. First, our tokens are small. Things with trample will make us cry. By playing Decree of Pain, even if we destroy all of our tokens, we can draw into things we need. Lastly, we have these two;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We will be leveling the field for our army. Sometimes though, we might want something a tad better. Mimic Vat will let us repeat things. I.E our Sadistic Hypnotist that died, and Necroskitter takes the cursed creatures our opponent has and bring them to the side of righteousness! Sometimes we need to get a specific card. Well, we only have Diabolic Tutor and Sidisi Undead Vizier to search for things. In terms of random search, we can sacrifice a token to Evolutionary Leap to hope and find one of our 25 creatures. Next up is our Draw, with Skullmulcher and Collective Unconscious; with afield of usually 5+ creatures, we can make bank. Let’s talk about what hurts us. Yes, our words hurt more than any stick or stone. Wrath of God/ Damnation/ Supreme Verdict. Those hurt us. We also suffer with a card called Crumbling Ashes, yes, we play it. If for some reason we’re the only one with a creature that has a -1/-1 counter, we gotta get rid of it. This is usually a miscalculation on our end. Against Aggressive decks, we’re slower for sure. What we have though is the ability to make them weaker. With control, we kinda can’t make the tokens for the most part, but we have creatures in the deck that can swing for massive damage. Normally I would talk about Big Deck plays, but I covered our main ways of winning already. This deck is almost political...get it, politics are poisonous? eh? eh? We want the control player on our side, if not the combo player. Combo’s we can’t rush. If we get a Praetor’s Grasp, we might be able to remove the combo piece from the game, but generally we want to get second place. This is all about manipulating the board to make it seem like you aren’t the threat, but you’re actually removing it for everyone else. Let your tokens die, we can always make more. From there, I’d like to mention none budget adds. We make tokens, say hello to Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Primal Vigor. Seasons alone is $60, with Vigor being $20. Our land base is fine, but if you want shocks and fetches, add away. The deck could use Damnation, which is $20. Eldrazi Monument ($5) or Akroma’s Memorial ($20), to save your tokens, and make them faster. You can see the whole deck here. For a $100 budget, we have a pretty nice deck. Thank you @mayaels-petting-zoo for your patience, as well as everyone else for their continued support. You guys are awesome. Until the next article~ Gryffnwing~
