your desires arent going anywhere. as soon as you decide you have them, thats it. you have it.
you dont have to affirm 24/7, you have it.
you dont have to visualise every scenario, you have it.
no matter what the 3d shows, you have it.
we are always assuming. its about who you assume yourself to be. the old you or the real you.

oh also another thing that bugs me about how kunikida gets characterized is how often poeple describe him as someone super polite who never swears lmao. he has one of the most vulgar speech patterns in the series, the most of the ada for sure. he only uses honorifics for fukuzawa, ranpo and yosano, being direct and unofficial with the others, regularly calls atsushi "brat" and uses familiar/rude pronouns (like ore/omae/kisama) and people think he'd tell someone off for saying fuck

Past Lives works so well for me because I am so enamoured with pragmatism in fiction.
I read and watch a lot of stories about idealized love stories and I often enjoy them too! I spent my entire childhood believing that the teenagers who got together in the media I consumed would stay together forever. And then as I got older, I was naturally introduced to more stories about romances that didn’t work out. Still, it’s hard for me to think about those as pragmatic, most of them have this desire for sadness in them. They would make me feel as though the devastation was the point, that the narrative was forcefully bent toward the saddest outcome.
Past Lives doesn’t make me feel this way. Nora doesn’t stop talking to Hae Sung because of an unforeseen tragic circumstance. She makes a choice and goes through with it. Hae Sung puts it best during their conversation at the end of the film. She is the kind of person to leave. And he loves her because she is that kind of person. The “what-if” isn’t in wondering about if circumstances were different. No matter what, she would have chosen her plays over anything else. Her husband even notes that so much of how their relationship happened is because he fit so well into the life she wanted. The whole reason this film is called “Past Lives” is because that’s the only way to ponder about whether Nora and Hae Sung could be together.
It’s such a delightfully Asian perspective on it. “In another life” films are so common, but I always feel like Western movies do it in a kind of parallel universe kind of way. I love that in this one, Nora is so steadfast and consistent in her personality and desires, that there is no real contemplation and consideration of making her and Hae Sung’s relationship work. There is only a longing and a love.

i'm a little wine drunk. thinking ab being wine drunk with your man.
when you're tipsy to the point where you get giggly and handsy. he loves it, he's all for it. this is his favorite stage of you being drunk. one more drink then you get really flirty, another drink after that you get aggressive, then one more drink and you can't stand up. so right before shit hits the fan, he's all for it. he loves when you slide a hand over his chest through his button shirt, he loves when you run your hands through his hair making it look like post sex hair, messing up the gel he put in an hour previous. oh, he also loves when you give him a sloppy kiss right after taking a big swig of your drink. he can taste the tequila mixed with lime on your tongue, then he has to put his hands firmly on your hips to get you to slow down and take a breath. he loves when you're still tipsy that he can still have a conversation, because he knows realistically he has about ten minutes before he's having to follow you around making sure you're not picking up someone else's drink. he loves when you're tipsy.

man!!!! dsmp fucked so hard. the best way i can describe it is like. theres a lot of technically good media out there. that do things better or less chaotically or more thematically coherent that the dsmp. but dsmp feels so fucking sincere, like. it’s homemade, is the thing. it’s made by them, it’s made by us. it’s imperfect, it’s flawed, it’s honest. it goes beyond its medium and demands that you care. its genius comes from the fact that we’re consuming it together, watching it together, creating it together. it feels a lot like a homecooked family meal, is what i’m saying. love that shit <3

Say it with me, everyone:
Fandom OCs — even when paired romantically with canon characters — are not inherently Mary Sues or Gary Stus.
Yes, many are someone's self-insert who lacks any depth or flaws because that person sees themselves as Perfect, but that is not always the case.
Plenty of people (myself included) are more than capable of creating complex, interesting OCs to insert into our favorite fictional works. (And even a self-insert can be good if the creator doesn't make them Perfect At Everything and can see their own flaws.)
