I’ve been on an xmen kick recently so I need to talk about Magneto and more importantly the brotherhood.

There are lots of good bad guys in marvel; Loki, Venom, doc ock, etc but the difference is they are bad guys they are driven by greed, bloodlust, jealousy, general assholeness, whatever.

Magneto fights for equal rights.

One of my favourite forms of xmen was X-men: evolution, which showed Jean grey, Scott summers (cyclops), Kitty pryde (shadowcat), Kurt Wagner (nightcrawler), Evan Daniels (spyke) and Rogue all as teenagers in high school and whilst I loved those characters my favourite thing about the show was the brotherhood.

The main four members of the brotherhood being; Todd tolansky (Toad), Pietro maximoff (Quicksilver), Fred dukes (Blob) and Lance Alvers (Avalanche). They all do bad and questionable things but the only reason they are all villians is because they didn’t fit into Xavier’s idea of heroes so he never even tried to help them.

Toad arrived the same day as Kurt, Kurt was welcomed with open arms no questions asked. Toad fought Through the manors defence systems to “see if he had the gift” (despite Charles being a mind reader and Scott telling him he had it) then fought Kurt, and then when he ran off no one went after him because Charles told them not to.

Avalanche arrived in the next episode on the same day as Kitty. Charles detected them both but only went to get Kitty and when Avalanche tried to befriend her and expressed that he felt out of place and was happy to have someone else like him around Charles told Jean he was a bad influence and to end the friendship. At the beginning of the episode Jean asks what they will do about him and Charles says he’ll handle it and then doesn’t even bother looking for him.

Next blob appears and whilst Jean makes an effort to be nice to him (if only to stop him from killing Duncan) none of the other xmen even try. Charles doesn’t acknowledge him at all until he kidnaps Jean, something he done because he spent his life as a carnival freak being laughed at and was excited to have finally met someone who didn’t laugh at him. (Something that annoyed me was that Jean did laugh at him just not to his face instead she did it behind his back to kitty)

Finally Ouicksliver, he appears in the same episode as Evan as Evan’s rival. Despite Charles and other Xmen frequently talking about giving people a chance they chose to leave Pietro because he was a bit annoying and impatient.

So with Mystic and Magneto being the only stable (ish) adults in their lives they all joined the brotherhood. And whilst they did bad things just because they were told to whenever they didn’t have orders they weren’t as evil as they were mildly agitating.

Toad and Avalanche specifically weren’t even evil they were just poor and lonely. Everything the two done was mainly for money, food, (occasional revenge), and or to be liked. Avalanche frequently started earthquakes to impress Kitty and Toad would really hang out with anyone who gave him the time of day, (something the Xmen didn’t)

since Kurt is with Wanda and Evan is with Pietro in the Turn of the Century AU, I keep picturing them joking each other that they have the best partner . Of course when Remy hears this he immediately sets up his homemade movie about how awesome Rogue is. Cue Wanda, Pietro, and Rogue being embarrassed yet pleased.

Sorry this took a while. But yessssss i love this idea. Except pietro is a slut for attention no way he’s embarrassed about being bragged about.

Hilarious how Terry Silver’s famous Three D’s speech could’ve been a direct in-universe reference to The Witches of Eastwick (which came out two years before The Karate Kid III, in 1987) and the Devil’s own speech about the three D’s which are death, desertion and divorce.

Basically, what I mean to say is that...Terry’s full of nonsense. 

Canonically.

And he adores that he is. 

It amuses him infinitely whenever he is.

His Quicksilver Technique is literally scrounged up from everything and anything under the sun with little rhyme or reason other than what’s painful, what’s deliberately degrading and what’s personally funny for Terry himself and torturous as all hell for an otherwise clueless Daniel. Terry used random things. Lies. Made up moves. Hurtful methods. His own on the spot improv. Actual movie references, if anything. Whatever’s on hand. He’s bullshitting his way through everything, for lack of a better word. What’s worse? What’s crueler? Or where Terry’s concerned, what’s better --- it worked! It actually worked! He is capable of selling a line from an actual film as a credible martial arts philosophy and have this kid eating from the palm of his hand. This patchwork of manipulation he calls a legitimate and special training routine is nothing but him quite literally trolling Daniel Larusso and Daniel Larusso believing him, making the entirety of the movie all the funnier and all the darker, because my god, Terry Silver downright scammed and lulled in Daniel with a piece of dialogue lifted from a comedy.

No wonder he was so perpetually amused and all smiles the whole film.

First of all, in case you're keeping track, this is the last time we hear "Sam" from the Colonel for quite a while... maybe ever? Don't ask how or why I know these things. Just go read my pinned fanfic if you're really into this sort of obsessive Sam/Jack (SamJack, Car'Neill, O'Carter, JamSack, SpaceJam, etc.) observation.

Second, this is probably one of my least favorite episodes. I've read that this script was actually re-worked due to RDA filming availability conflict so it comes across weird with having Amanda delivering lines that were written for him, but that's not why I dislike it. Minor rant incoming. I fully agree with the message of this episode, however, the delivery is so very, very, very ON. THE. NOSE. I really enjoy subtlety when I'm being preached to. A GOOD example of this sort of thing is "The Other Side" and the If you could kill baby Hitler, would you do it? dilemma.

Third, vagina faced aliens in quicksilver robes.

Fourth, Jack & Daniel being Jack & Daniel. Jack to Daniel with finger on the trigger: "How do I know you're really you?" Daniel: "Because..." Jack: "Yeah, okay."
