ok so i made another vest real quick
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes yes i know i've already finished 2 vests over the past 1.5 months but hear me out. how about another knitted vest.
this is the ribblesdale vest and i'm very happy with how it turned out. there was a bit of uncertainty when i cast on because there's no photos on ravelry showing this vest on a flat chest, but luckily my instinct was right and i ended up really satisfied with the shaping. i also used a dk weight yarn instead of worsted weight (because it was what i had in my stash) and managed to get gauge.
minor details i'm fond of include:
grafted ends of the i-cord edges around the armholes so the i-cord forms an unbroken loop
the green buttons and the very nice green scrap sock yarns i used to sew them on
the reinforced buttonholes with sewing
instead of following the pattern putting buttons on the left (traditional women's clothing design), I put the buttons on the right panel like men's shirts do just because i can

starting the last row of this shawl before the bind off. i'm having such a great time with this thing that i'm probably going to start another shawl immediately, but i am also very excited to be done because i've had it on the needles since 2020

It only just clicked with this bag, which is probably bag number like 65, exactly how my ch2 functions as a stitch and how to increase with it correctly. Like I've been staring it pretty much this whole time (years !) fucking up in different ways every time.
It's still visible but it's much neater than usual and I have 2 stitches from the chain below, which is what I need for this particular base. Yay !

It’s really nice when a handspun yarn has a nice consistent color contrast stripe that lines up well with your lace row.

Because I am proud of how all of these turned out, here's an overview of the gifts I made for my various in-laws this year.
Icy Night Cowl (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/icy-night-cowl) in Cascade Yarns Noble Cotton
Back Seat Driver Hat (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/back-seat-driver-hat) in Cascade Yarns Noble Cotton
Shell Steps Cowl (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shell-steps-cowl) in Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima
Chevron Rib Beanie (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-rib-beanie) in Cascade Yarns Noble Cotton
Norwegian Fir Hat (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/norwegian-fir-hat) in Berroco Tillie
A capelet I made using a modification of Weldon's Seaweed Strip (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/weldons-seaweed-strip) full notes on what I did here (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/ShadowEtienne/weldons-seaweed-strip) also in Berroco Tillie (I am the one in the picture there because the best picture I have is trying it on to make sure it fit and behaved the way I hoped it would)
Almost all of these were from left over stash yarn from other projects (mostly from the big blanket that I just finished, that's all the Noble Cotton), and the Tillie was from a project that I frogged and was looking for a use for. They were well received gifts, and I'm really pleased with how they turned out.
Overall, had a lot of fun especially with pulling together the capelet pattern from the lace pattern.
