A story to watch, in my opinion: Anne Reardon is a YouTuber with about 5M Followers. Her channel, "How To Cook That" frequently discusses so called "cooking hacks" that are actually faked for views or even potentially dangerous.
In a recent video, she discussed the dangers of "fractal woodburning", a craft that places lichtenberg figures on wood with high voltages from a disassembled microwave.
Messing with microwave transformers or incredibly high voltages is a pretty quick way to die a painful, accidental death, and especially with the wet surfaces that fractal woodburning requires. A number of people have already died trying to do fractal woodburning, and others have burnt down their house while trying. A man accidentally fused insulating gloves to his hand in a fractal woodburning accident too. Videos of it very rarely come with a notice of how lethal it can be. Anne spoke out about how she saw an official YouTube page on Facebook share videos of fractal woodburning, which concerned her. The goal of her video was to discourage people from trying it or assuming it is a safe activity.
Her video got millions of views because many people hadn't realized just how dangerous it is.
... And then YouTube took it down for "violating community guidelines", while leaving many other fractal woodburning videos up.
This video adressed the takedown and reposted the contents of the old video, because the warning is important.
youtube
I feel like something is missing here though. Anne is concerned with her warning making it to the top of YouTube searches for fractal woodburning, but YouTube has the ability to flag searches themselves and create warning popups and other effective deterrents. So why aren't they? I theorize that either they know that the deleted video makes them look bad, or that fractal woodburning is dangerous, but they have yet to actually follow through on their moral responsibility to prevent unnecessary death by adding warnings. The correct course of action here is to reinstate Anne's video, and provide official warnings on related searches. They haven't yet, though. It's pretty concerning to me!
#I just wanna say#Ann Reardon is great#sub to her!!#i wish she was more popular than all those 5 minute crafts and viral cookhacks#in one video she also debunks artificial sweeteners

Scout: *to Sniper with a grin* Hey are you from Tennessee?
Sniper: You know I'm from Australia
Scout: because you're the only ten I see~
Sniper:....
Sniper: do you not hear this accent? How could you think I'm from Tennessee?!
---an hour later during a meeting----
Sniper: oh! He was trying to flirt with me!

new discord hacking scam
this one is pretty clever
basically
you get DMed by a hacked member of your friends list
they say someone with the same username and avatar as you sent someone inappropriate pictures
they invite you to join a server to see the accusations and defend yourself
they say that they cannot risk having a creep on their friends list until you defend yourself
they block you so you feel pressured to join the server to defend yourself
if you join the server it tries to get you to scan the QR code to log in, which hands over complete access to your account
never scan QR codes on discord. do not join these servers. do not put the rest of your friends list in danger.

In light of recent events, I would like to remind everyone that the correct pro choice talking point that will actually pull people to our side is NOT whether a fetus is human or not because you'll never win. The correct argument is how the state should never have the power to force you to give up physical autonomy for the sake of any other being.

Imagine the kiddos getting like a terrible Valentine’s Day assignment about their mom and dad and having to write about uncle Majima for school. Can you imagine (“if someone loves you and they kiss you then you have to shut up that’s what my uncle Majima says”)
(please note that this is a joke)
