Eddie is constantly bouncing between jobs and rage quitting every 6 months on average. Steve, however, somehow gets lucky with a job in computer sales. With the industry in a booming rise, he makes a pretty decent income to support them both whenever Eddie's out of a job. Best part is, even though his charming voice and smile certainly help make sales, he doesn't feel like he's one of those scammers pushing all kinds of crap people don't need. Computers are objectively useful.

This goes on until their mid 30s and Steve saves up enough to open his own small tech store. He very hesitantly starts involving his recently unemployed (again) boyfriend in some mundane tasks (upon Eddie's own initiative saying he wants to help) and quickly learns that all of Eddie's previous bosses were morons. He actually listens to Eddie's bitching and recognizes the helpful suggestions to improve things in the middle of all that, instead of telling him to shut up and do his damn job.

Working together can often be the perfect storm to ruin a relationship, but despite becoming Eddie's de-facto boss, Steve never treats him differently. It's never orders, always "Eddie can you [do this and that]?". It's soft smiles and a quiet "thanks, babe", and if no one's around, a kiss on Eddie's cheek when he gets something done. Do you have any headcanons about the relationship between Michigan and Iguazu?

BOY DO I!!!!

So, their relationship is actually pretty complicated, even though superficially it seems like a typical "boss trying to whip a slacker into shape". Well, they're that too, but:

Iguazu has very mixed feelings re: Michigan, because on the one hand he broke his goddamn face and then press-ganged him into Redgun service, but on the other hand, the Redguns granted him opportunities he never would've had on earth, and he's actually treated considerably better than he had been on earth too.

See, on earth, Iguazu was born into the working class, but he didn't want to live his life in the production factories or fabrication foundaries, so he was - gasp - unemployed and joined one of the many gangs that roamed the slums. Smuggling, robbery, illegal gambling, anything that could get him ahead in life, anything that could make him that little bit richer, Iguazu went for it. His lifelong dream was to get enough scratch to buy a bronze citizenship and move into one of the Rejuvenated cities, but he needed lots of money for that.

Lots and lots and lots of money.

Gambling was his favourite way of trying to get that money, because in his eyes it was a 'get rich quick and don't even get shot at' method. He did petty crime to get the fistful of cash needed to throw down a bet - and then lose it all lmao it was an endless cycle. In fact, it was how he got augmented in the first place, as he put down a huuuuuuuuge bet he just couldn't cover, and when he lost it, he realised not even selling a kidney or liver would cover the debt.

Fortunately, he managed to make a deal with some shady augmentation surgeon looking for 'test subjects' for some highly experimental """"Gen Four""""" augmentations, and he took a chance: if he survived the surgery and let the surgeon get whatever data he wanted from it, the surgeon will pay off his debt. If he didn't survive the surgery well, he'll be dead. If he couldn't pay back that debt though, he was dead anyways, so Iguazu took the chance and actually won!

So, an augmented human that doesn't have any debt nor ties to corporations is pretty valuable, even if they don't have an AC to pilot. With his new second chance, Iguazu shunned gambling for good and- HAH no. He went back to his previous life of petty crime and excessie gambling, except now he was a little cockier. Anyway, he climbed the ranks a little in the gang he was in (where he had consistently stayed, not quite at the bottom, but like, bottom third, maybe), and got tangled up in a scheme to get some seriously big cash.

tl;dr Iguazu tried to rob the Hero of Jupiter of all people.

Didn't work, obviously. His gang got busted halfway through the job and Iguazu got left behind to take the fall. Michigan basically beat him half senseless, but didn't kill him (even though he could've done it and the law would've been like "oh, unemployed working class, yeah, it wouldn't count as murder :)" since only citizens are protected (working class aren't "citizens" in apv...)). Instead, after rearranging Iguazu's face and breaking a few bones, Michigan dragged him to the hospital and paid his medical bill.

Now. Onto where the complicated feelings come in.

Life on earth was a constant struggle, and Iguazu was aware that he wasn't at the bottom of the social ladder so much as even the worms tilling the soil were considered more productive members of society than him. None of his schemes or gambling was getting him the money he wanted, and after attempting to rob the Hero of Jupiter, the Peacekeepers weren't going to arrest him, they'd just vanish him completely, which was scarier.

But that didn't happen. Instead Michigan offered him a deal: if Iguazu served ten years in the Redguns as one of his AC squad commanders, then Michigan will personally sponsor him a silver earth citizenship and give him a lump sum of COAM to start him off for his new life.... but if Iguazu turned him down, then Michigan was going to leave him to the mercy of the Peacekeepers, which was essentially a death sentence.

Obviously, Iguazu was going to take the deal, no matter how suspicious as fuck it sounded.

Really, Iguazu was half-expecting Michigan to make him his indentured slave. But instead he found that, no, he was legitimately recruited as an AC pilot. Was trained to be an AC pilot. Michigan even forced him to train in other things too - marketable skills he called them, no matter how much Iguazu grouched and complained about them being boring or pointless. Michigan pushed him to do better, didn't take any of Iguazu's shit, and if Iguazu pushed back too hard, promptly smacked him back into his place and reminded him of their deal.

It really confused Iguazu more than anything? Like, he hated Michigan on principle, and he hated how he was in control of his life and strongarmed him into a group he didn't even care about, but at the same time he felt some weird, bitter and begrudging gratitude and respect - which made him hate Michigan even more because he can't even just hate the guy without it being complicated!! Michigan was just some rich famous guy who decided to make Iguazu his charity case, and he really despised him for it.

But he was also aware that life in the Redguns was considerably better than life on earth had been to him. He'd paid a generous salary. He sleeps in a warm, clean bed (even when sent to Rubicon, their barracks had a functional cot). He got to eat every day and didn't have to worry about tomorrow. He met people he could tolerate and weren't always thinking about how to fuck him over (Volta). Iguazu really does have a lot of complicated feelings over Michigan and what he's done for him, but he settles for resentment and bitter anger because those emotions he knows best. He knows what to do with those...

Michigan, meanwhile?

Really, he was thinking about Walter when it came to Iguazu. Saw this gutsy, angry, refused to stay beaten down "sewer rat", and just couldn't help but glimpse Walter in there. Like, yeah, Walter was never that mouthy, was colder, more composed and poised, but damn, that crazy, raw stubbornness that was just shy of the fierceness of a cornered animal was all Walter.

As well, his experiences with Walter, and his own perspective on both sides of the social ladder - and how the working class are treated - had Michigan feeling some kind of way. He just decided to go for it, see what happened. Iguazu had the guts to try and rob him and, when caught, squared up to him like an absolute lunatic. Michigan liked that kind of gutsy lunacy. Combined with his sort of Walter reminders, he decided to just... offer a helping hand.

Walter sure as hell never had one of those. Walter did everything himself, horded that bitter resentment until it poisoned him right down to the bone marrow, and now he's god knows where doing who knows what. So... yeah, it's complicated on Michigan's side too.

They're both so emotionally constipated, though. Michigan sure as hell explained nothing, Iguazu stewed at what he perceived to be unwanted pity and charity, and everyone else just kinda watched this from the sidelines like hm. intersting. well anyway-

Two years. It's been two years since you last saw Chuuya. Two years, seven months, three weeks and five days to be exact. Not like you were keeping track or anything.

Every day had been the same for the past two years. Being in the mafia gave you quite a large sum of money, enough to sustain your unemployed self for two years.

For those two years, all you did was sleep during the day, wake up, have an evening smoke and spend the rest of the night at the bar, where you drank away all the pain. 

The smoke choked your lungs and the alcohol numbed everything, but you no longer cared for your wellbeing. After Osamu left, all that remained were feelings of worthlessness.

And soon after his departure you were living your life awaiting your death, so you turned to the same bad habit that destroyed your family to destroy yourself faster.

It was a pitiful state you were in. Chuuya had tried to help. Chuuya watched as one cigarette turned to one pack. Chuuya watched as one glass turned into one bottle. Chuuya was only concerned for you. Chuuya was always there for you. But, just like your mother and brother, you left.

You left the last person who cared about you.

Through your drunken eyes, he was meddling, restricting you from the smoke and alcohol which had comforted you like old friends, so you ran away, refusing any help and only worsened.

But, your money was running out, and that meant you'd have to face the pain you struggled to repress. Which led you back to your house where you knew you had left money.

You groaned as you lay around the broken glass. The sound of your door opening had you scrambling to your room. You gently closed the door to your room as your front door swung open.

With tentative steps, you made your way to your closet where you'd find your spare cash. You sighed as you stepped in and shut the door.

"Hi,"

You screamed and fought to get out of the closet. You landed on your behind with a thud as your room door swung open to reveal Chuuya brandishing a kitchen knife.

"Hi," You said with an awkward smile.

Chuuya shouted incomprehensibly. You lay down on the floor as the figure from within the closet stepped out. Chuuya flung the knife, but the figure dodged.

"Please just make it quick,"

"It seems you've taken after me my dear sister," He chuckled.

Your head shot up.

"You!"

With shaky legs, you stood up, rolled back your shoulder and punched Osamu across the jaw. 

"Can't say I didn't deserve that,"

"You deserve a whole lot more," You fumed.

Osamu rubbed his jaw slowly as Chuuya gently gripped your arm. You turned to him with tears in your eyes and hugged him tightly. Chuuya rubbed circles into your back as you sobbed into his shoulder.

"I've missed you," He whispered into your hair.

"For an ex mafia member who's been a slave to alcohol and cigarettes for two years, you still punch hard,"

"What's with the get up?" Chuuya asked.

"Why don't we sit down and we can ask as many questions as we want?" Osamu suggested.

You broke away from Chuuya and walked to the bathroom, where you showered for the first time in a long time. All the dust, dried tear stains and the scent of smoke and alcohol washed away with the water, down into the drain, separating from you. You put on clean clothes and made your way to your kitchen.

"Thought you ran away again," Osamu said dryly.

You frowned but made no comment and simply sat at the table.

"You look better," Chuuya said after several minutes of tense silence.

"Don't lie Chuuya. Look at her eye bags, those dead eyes, the dull skin and hair. She looks absolutely terrible,"

"Must you berate me so? It's been several years since I last saw you," You said quietly. 

"Dazai, you must admit that she looks much better after her time in the bathroom than when we first saw her today,"

"That may be true, but that doesn't change the fact that she broke into her own house after two years of absence, likely in search of money to further fuel her addiction. Being nice to her won't help her,"

You flinched at his harsh tone.

"I want to help her more than anyone, but that doesn't mean we should be so harsh. She's clearly fragile right now. She doesn't need you to lecture her. We can do that after, but for now, we should just catch up,"

"He's right Chuuya, but can we please talk about it later? This is the last time I'll run away from my problems. I promise,"

"Fine. To answer your question Chuuya, I've joined the side that saves people. I'm in the armed detective agency,"

"Why the change of heart?"

"Because Y/N, I'm doing something that makes me feel even better than alcohol and cigarettes,"

"Don't you dare act like you're any better than me,"

"Oh but I am,"

"You say you've joined the side that saves lives yet your cruel nature still remains,"

Chuuya cleared his throat loudly.

"You two need to stop bickering like children,"

That shut the both of you up. Osamu scoffed and stood up to grab a glass of water.

"What are you doing in my sister's house Chuuya?"

"I've been keeping it clean for when she eventually returns," He said quietly.

Another scoff from Osamu. He shook his head.

"And she left you,"

You hung your head in shame.

"You didn't have to do that Chuuya. What if I didn't come back?"

"I did it because I care about you. I cared about you then, and I still care about you now. And I guess we're all fools to love,"

"Gross,"

Dazai took a seat again.

"This is my last mean comment. Y/N Dazai. You idiot. I gave you one last instruction, a very simple one. Stay with Chuuya. And what do you go and do? You leave him. Why?"

Chuuya shot Osamu a harsh glare as you blinked rapidly to keep your tears from falling.

"I was scared. Mum left us all alone, then you left me and all I had was Chuuya. I enjoyed being around him, I loved him so much, but every day I had this constant fear gnawing at me. I was scared that like everyone else, he'd walk away and I'd have no one. The thought that I wasn’t good enough to get you to stay haunted me. So I started smoking to 'take off the edge', then I started drinking to numb the pain,"

You paused momentarily to take in a shaky breath. Chuuya cupped your hands in his and pressed light kisses onto your fingers.

"After you left, I just felt like I was a terrible sister. I felt like I wasn't enough. When you left, it hurt me. It hurt me so much that I started drinking and smoking just like you and mum to bring me comfort the way I saw it gave you comfort. In a way, I guess it was my way of being close to you again,"

Osamu simply stared intently at you. Thinking. Not saying a word. You inhaled.

"And Chuuya was there through it all. He watched me, he tried stopping me. And I left him because I thought I needed the alcohol and cigarettes to continue living without pain. I thought he wanted me to suffer. Which I knew deep down, was never true. Perhaps I was just making an excuse for the fact that I was too scared he'd walk out of my life, so I left before he could," 

You couldn't utter a single word more, before you buried your face in your hands and sobbed uncontrollably. Osamu, surprisingly, stayed quiet and even offered you tissues and water while Chuuya rubbed circles into your shoulders.

"Perhaps I was too harsh on you without hearing your side first," Dazai mused once your sobs started waning.

You looked at him and gasped lightly. This was your first proper look at your brother in years. How different he looked. His once soulless eyes held a bit of life in them. His skin was a much healthier colour than the previous ashy tone. Everything about Osamu seemed much more alive.

Luisa had no illusions about her life. Born in a small home in Santa Clara, her father was a dishwasher and her mother was a maid both at the same swanky hotel for tourists, both hardworking and trying their best, trying to make something of themselves as best they could. Apparently both of my older brothers are struggling currently. Had I known sooner, I would have put up a post much sooner. We need your Help

I'm almost shocked on how there's been very little national coverage on what we went through yesterday (1.24.23) here in Houston.

So, remember how I said we don't get snow? Yeah, um, we also don't get tornadoes.

Even less so than snow, actually, and we got hit with a EF2 yesterday that pummeled through the city and left hundreds homeless in this apartment complex alone.

I typically wouldn't ever ask for help, but my dad got hit with a double whammy yesterday; while he was out helping get his elderly upstairs neighbor out of her unit before it collapsed on her, someone walked into his unit and managed to swipe half of his savings he had taken out of the safe just moments before the funnel hit.

Everyone lost their homes yesterday. My dad almost wasn't able to get his cat out because they didn't want to let him back in, and the cat was one of three things he managed to get out before they rushed him. He couldn't even get any clothes, barely managing to get his groceries that hadn't spoiled yet and whatever tech he had to fix for his business to make quick cash. My little brother can't even go back to school because the roof lifted off and the windows blew out while he was inside hunkered down across the street.

My father's raised me to be humble, but I know when you've been beaten down to not be afraid of raising a hand and I gotta admit, this man is keeping his hands down.
