Spy × Family analysis (English)

Analyzing the anime's all episodes with English subtitles~

I decided to do an observation & analysis of the currently famous anime Spring 2022 SPY × FAMILY. After my previous-of-previous-of-whatever-previous post, I continued watching the episodes, started thinking about analyzing them, and see if there are any spoilers or interesting facts.

Happy to announce that our tie breaker is on the way!!💙❤️

We are thrilled the watcher has blessed us so early after our little Wyatt arrived. Of course though who are we to question the Watcher and his divine wisdom. This little blessing is our fifth child in six years of marriage!

You may have noticed the change in background ... Recently we felt called to return to our native Newcrest. My father sadly passed away a few months ago and with my mom getting older we decided to be closer to her. My dear in laws passed away two years ago now and Jackson loves being able to drive down to his old house. As many of you may or may have not noticed we messed up naming our kids oops! We don't mind either way and we are so happy with our children's names. To give our followers a quick update our children are: Zara (5) Xanthe (4) Yuri (2) Wyatt(1) and our newest blessing.

The newest house has more space for our family to grow! We have two bathrooms and three bedrooms. We have a large garden that we can grow our own veg and fruit and a chicken coop. How fortunate are we! Keep visiting back so we can share more news with you all! For the time being we love for you to Guess what gender our newest baby will be!

AN: I was playing ahead before the big update but also trying to avoid this save until next week when the new expansion is out and I give Renee a big funeral :) Ralphine is her mothers daughter but she actively plays a part in her kdis lives for now... She is close frenemies with Joy and quietly judges her with big sis Raelynn who is the golden child and has between her mother's record for having the most births.

Question bc I need to get better at planning fics and your writing is really well thought out!!

What's your best way of planning and getting through a fic, even if it feels daunting??

Hello!!! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️ Again I'm no expert on writing but these are what I usually do!

Yapping under the cut

What I usually do for planning and what I think is the best way for me is the bullet point style of planning. like I write what's gonna happen in each chapter in bullet points. It doesn't have to be extremely detailed, it just needs to say what'll happen next so it'll act as a guide for you while you're writing. Example:

Chapter 1- seafoam on the shore

Afternoon- seaside town and tavern.

Characters: R, Miguel, Lyla, Thena and Janet.

R runs away from the cops

She gets to see Hobie's ship before hand while on the roof and sees Gwen and Yuri arguing on the ship

She gets back safely to the tavern

Miguel is at the tavern unexpectedly etc....

I also add the details that I don't want to forget once I start writing the chapter. Like what they could be wearing, what's the weather like, how does this character feel in that chapter or like environmental details like the stained glass windows bathe the characters in red, or what's the floor made out of. The sort of details that slip through the cracks while writing it but if you miss it, it doesn't take much from the chapter but it adds a bit more and might help the readers feel more engaged to the story and feel like they're actually in the scene.

I also find that plotting the whole narrative out before writing a chapter or any chapter for that matter helps in gathering my thoughts bc I tend to get distracted by the future chapters and also you don't have to stress about thinking what happens next in the story bc you've already plotted it out. It really helps in making it feel less daunting especially for multi chapters. This tends to work on me, but if it doesn't work on you or you feel like it's not your style it's well alright too! There's really no rule in how you write since every person has their own way of drafting their writing.

As for getting through a fic, I don't force myself if I don't feel like writing the chapter now because I tend to get back on it after a few days bc I always miss writing for it. If it feels like you're pulling teeth bc you're having a hard time writing a chapter, take a break, do something else, have a nap etc. It'll come back to you eventually, and your wip will still be there when you're ready.

Also, last bit. Whenever I feel like it's daunting to write a fic/chapter that I end up procrastinating on it I just tell myself that I'm only doing this for fun and for the love of the characters and writing so I shouldn't put too much pressure on myself to make it absolutely perfect. So if it feels too intimidating to continue a wip, tell yourself that this is supposed to be fun, and if it stops being fun you can always take a break from it and write something that you think is more fun to create.

What do the ROs voices sound like?

This is such an interesting question! I stuck with voice actors, instead of using normal actors or online celebrities/influencers or other people like that, since that's like... their job LMAO 😂

They aren't exactly what I imagine they sound like, but it's mostly the general tone, pitch, inflection, etc that's similar.

I added in the character example(s) and what media they're from next to the VA names as well as links to a video example. They're all from Genshin Impact or Fire Emblem Heroes, since I know those games have a ton of voice clips and VAs to choose from, as well as said voice clips being easily available to find online.

Anyway, everything is under the cut, as usual! ❤️

Helloooo~ I’ve got some questions… you know how Gary/roach is a member of 141? Do you think they’ll add him in (in this AU)? Or any more members? (Cause there were more members). Or do you think they’ll just stick with the current four and omega?

Nah I'm sticking to the reboots for this one so no Roach. Just the four. Funny enough I had someone on Ao3 ask if I'll bring in Keegan and Konig and I was like....babes Konig is canonically dead and Keegan is from an entirely different game 😂

So no, it'll just be the four from the reboot. Funny enough I started a fic for the OG games before the reboots came out. Might have to revisit that....

Roach I think would be a beta. He just gives that energy.

Nikolai is an alpha. 'Nuff said that explains itself.

Yuri...I think he'd be an alpha too. He's got too much manly energy.

literally the most difficult question ever. FUCK. i mean as someone who’s personally writing armand as being weird about danny being able to get pregnant i’m like yesss 😈 and me personally i can never get enough. but at the same time the concept of t4t is so compelling i have my hands on my knees crying. thinking about them exchanging shirts with their lipstick kiss marks around the collar. doing each others makeup like that classic image. armand truly dressing danny up like her personal doll…. ❤️

The handsome Choi Beomgyu gets a lucky chance to enter the ball and feels love at first sight, Mo Yuri. Will their young love stay forever?

“Why the long face princess?” Nurse Min asked in a worried tone, as she was fixing Yuri’s hair. “I’m just not excited for today or what my faith might be by the end of the night.” Yuri just stares at herself through the mirror. “Well, I’m sure tonight will be fun for you my princess. I can just feel it in my bones.” Nurse Min sang while hugging Yuri at the end. “I’m glad one of us is looking forward to tonight.” Yuri let out a bittersweet laugh.

“I’m not the only one. Your sister seems quite excited as well, maybe she might find a prince charming tonight before you do.” Nurse Min laughed. “She’s too young to be thinking about love!” Yuri crossed her arms over her chest. “I��m surprised you haven’t started long ago princess.” Nurse Min looked at her through the mirror. “I-I don’t even know how it feels to love someone romantically, nurse.” Yuri stuttered while looking defeated. “Oh princess love feels like your heart is going to explode just by looking at the person, or how it feels like ages since that last time you saw each other but in reality it was like two hours ago.” Nurse Min laughed. “Love really makes you do the unthinkable sometimes.” Nurse Min sighed at the end. Yuri can see that Nurse Min really loves her lover with just the way she looks talking about love and all the things it makes you feel.

“Nurse Min?” Yuri spoke in such a light voice. “Yes dear.”

“Do you think I’ll find love tonight? Or even a husband?” Yuri was so scared for tonight and all this love talk really makes her even more scared. She thought if she asked questions that it would guide her, but it only made her more confused.

“I honestly wished your parents didn’t have to force you in this way to find someone to love for a really long time, but I have faith that tonight will work out for you princess.” Nurse Min then got on her knees holding Yuri’s hands together. “It’s like the moon talked to me last night, princess.” Yuri gasped, turning to face nurse Min. “What did it say?”

“I really do believe you will find the one princess I really do. Just follow your heart princess and be curious about your surroundings, there might be a lover hanging out around the shadows princess.” This made Yuri’s heart jump. Maybe she will finally experience love. “Thank you nurse Min, I don’t feel as bad now.” Yuri replaced her frown with a smile. “There’s mine princess, now let’s head out now your parents must be waiting.”

The music hall was decorated beautifully along with a live performance serenading the people’s ears. People from all the different kingdoms started entering of course saying their hellos to the king and queen, including the two daughters. You can obviously tell who are the bachelors for Yuri which had animal shape like masks covering a majority of their faces, but their lips.

“Now please behave boys. I don't want my parents to find out that I snuck you guys in, they'll have my head if they find out.” Soobin warned the boys before handing them their masks. “Mm, animal masks. Unique.” Beomgyu looked down at his puma mask. “Go in there and don’t fool around too much.” Soobin gave them one last word before heading into the castle. “I’ll see you boys on the other side, let's see if I’m lucky tonight.” Yeonjun laughed and walked right in, leaving the three boys behind.

“Ugh, what a whore.” Taehyun commented before following Yeonjun in. “I’m here for the food and wine.” Kai smiled before heading straight to the table filled with dishes around the world.

“And then there was one.” Beomgyu sighed to himself. He placed his mask over his face, smoothed out his dark colored vest and started making his way inside the castle. Beomgyu followed the loud music and the laughter soon he saw the magnificent music hall. He was awed with everything, especially the live band that was performing for everyone. He looked all around him seeing the ladies in all various style and color gowns, and with different hair dos. The boys also had various color vests and all different animal masks for the ball. As Beomgyu was making his way around everyone the main singer in the band stopped and spoke into the mic.

“Well I hope all the royals have a splendid time tonight. I can already see many lovers tonight.” He laughed into the mic. “It’s finally time for the ladies and our beautiful princess from Anastasia Mo Yuri to start the dance ceremony, and please if you think you're a good fit for our princess over here please do dance with her. Who knows you might be the lucky one~” The main singer winked to the crowd.

Beomgyu watched everyone clear the center as the ladies got into a straight line hands together as they started their dance. He was paying close attention to everyone until his eyes shifted to the direction of a girl who had the prettiest color of lilac on their gown. The gown had such beautiful jewels to complement the girl wearing it along with a lace throw over with little detail white flowers. He moved up to her face which was even more gorgeous than her dress, her hair was pin straight dark chocolate color with both of her front strands tucked behind her ears. Her face had such soft features but with a sharp jawline, her face could literally be the size of someone’s fist that’s how small it is.

He felt his heart beating and his ears ringing, “I have to dance with her.”

So Beomgyu was slowly making his way into the crowd getting closer to the girl with the lilac colored gown. His actions didn’t go unnoticed by a certain someone. Yuri can see a boy going through the crowd, bumping into people, hiding behind people, and even hiding behind pillars. She wanted to laugh at his silly actions, but she had to keep a straight face. Soon the dance changed to where you have to touch hands with someone and go in a circle. The warmth of the person’s hand startled Yuri. It was the boy with the puma mask.

“It’s you.”

“It’s I, princess.”

The two continued on dancing with each other. Yuri’s lips turned into a warm smile, well facing the puma boy. Beomgyu also returned the smile at the gorgeous girl in front of him. Unfortunately, the song came to an end and the nurses pulled Yuri away from the puma boy. The nurses pull Yuri to the side so she can watch a prince sing his heart out hoping to get the attention of the princess. “Wait, I wasn't done with my conversation yet.” Yuri looked at the nurses. “We know, but this boy really wants to show you and your parents his one of many skills.” The nurses giggled while playfully nudging into her arms.

Yuri sighed not wanting anything to do with this. She wants to know the puma masked boy. Yuri started zoning out staring into nothing and thinking of almost nothing, maybe of a certain-

Yuri gasped, but quickly covered her mouth as she felt someone holding her hand. She turned her head and saw the puma boy crouched down behind the pillar she was next to. “Puma boy.” She whispered. Beomgyu smiled at the name she gave him. “Want to know my real name?” Beomgyu tilted his head to the side waiting for the princess' response. Yuri looked at the nurses next to her seeing that they were fully engaged with the prince’s performance. “Yes, take me with you.” She tightened the hold of his hand.

The puma boy took the princess out to the open balcony giving them a grand view of the garden. The two came breathless with all the running they did getting away for the large crowd. “It’s Beomgyu.” Beomgyu took off his mask revealing his face. Yuri was speechless with the handsomeness that was held behind the mask. “Yuri. Mo Yuri.” She smiled at him.

“You just got my eye, I had to take you away.” Beomgyu kissed Yuri’s knuckles. Yuri almost flinched with the warmth of Beomgyu’s lips touching her skin. It already feels addicting. “You’re quite handsome, why didn’t my parents tell me about you?” Yuri came closer to Beomgyu. “Well, I’m not really royalty my lady.” Beomgyu said, while moving his hair away from his eye. “What do you mean? You have everything a royal would have.” Beomgyu chuckled, enjoying all the praise from the gorgeous princess.

“I’m friends with a current prince and he invited me over. I’m a lower class noble princess, unfortunately I’m not made for you.” Yuri shook her head ‘no’. “I want you to be made for me.” She held his hand up to her chest feeling more of the warmth she now craves. “Is this what love is?” Yuri and Beomgyu stare into each other's eyes, falling in love just by the mere stare and little touches.

This feeling came too strong and too fast for the two. Basically questioning if this is love or just the heat of the moment.

“Princess Yuri?” Nurse Min called out, causing Yuri to gasp. “You have to hide.” Yuri took Beomgyu to hide against one of the pillars. “Meet me on the right side of the kingdom you’ll see a balcony with pretty white flowers around it. That’s my room balcony, see me there and we’ll talk more.” Yuri whispered the plan to Beomgyu. Only to shock Beomgyu and herself when she gave him a kiss on his lips. The feeling was like a burst of fireworks in them. They couldn’t pull away mostly when Beomgyu held her close just in the last second when nurse Min came around the corner Yuri pulled away just in time.

“Princess! I have been looking up and down and all around for you.” Nurse Min took hold of Yuri’s hands with a worried stare. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience nurse. I just wanted some fresh air. The music hall was getting quite suffocating.” Yuri smiled, fooling the nurse. “Well now that you're well, let’s get back to it. Your parents are looking for you.” Nurse Min walked Yuri back inside leaving Beomgyu alone in his hiding place.

“Honey! We want you to meet someone.” Yuri’s mother pulled Yuri to her side. “My lovely daughter, this is the queen and king from a kingdom not too far away.” Yuri’s father explained. “And this is the prince Choi Soobin.” Her father pushed her a bit forward towards the prince.

He’s not that bad looking, but he’s not Beomgyu. “Hello prince. I’m Mo Yuri, princess of Anastasia.” She bowed with her hand over her chest. “Let’s let them talk a bit.” Her father pulled Soobin’s father over to the side away from the two with both wives following close behind. Yuri watched them walk away leaving her in an awkward position. “Um…to be honest, I’m not interested.” Yuri was blunt. Her mind is set on one person and one person only. “I agree completely with you princess. Quite frankly I have no desire to get married.” Yuri was glad that they’re on the same page. “Good well,” Yuri looked around her, seeing less and less people in the music hall. “I hope you have an excellent night prince Soobin.” She gave him a final bow before running out of the hall, making Soobin laugh.

“Cute~”

Yuri immediately sent her nurses out of the room to help out of the gown. “Don’t worry, I can do it nurses. Rest well tonight.” Yuri lightly closed her door and started to rush everything off. Yuri went through her closet finding a beautiful silky sleeping gown then to her vanity brushing out her little tangle bits. After quickly preparing herself she went through her balcony doors down her steps and headed to the white flower beds waiting for her prince.

Yuri looked up at the moon and brought her hands together and started praying at the moon. “Oh moon, please let him be my prince. My lover.” She sighed with a smile. “Let us fell deeply in love, amen.” Yuri giggled feeling ridiculous with how much she probably looks like a lovesick girl already. Rustling was heard causing Yuri to quickly fix her posture and look over to the trees to see her prince. “Princess.” Beomgyu was revealed from the shadows. Yuri lightly gasped, “mine prince!” She stretched out her arms ready for him to run to them. Beomgyu gladly took it has an invitation and ran up to the rock that could gave him perfect height to meet his princess. “The moonlight hits you perfectly.” Beomgyu hugged her, but left some space to look at her glowing face. “Thank you~”she giggled. Again the warmth and the love was consuming them.

“Come in.” Yuri backed up to let Beomgyu jump over her white stone railing. Once he landed Yuri quickly held his hand and pulled him in, causing him to stumble a bit making the both laugh. They spent the night talking and getting to one another even stealing a few kisses here and there. From an outsider it might look like they have been lovers for years, but in reality they only met hours ago.

Yuri learned that Beomgyu is eighteen and is an only child, but with his friend group he feels like he has four brothers. He loves archery and always practices it along with training with horses since he works in the stables of another kingdom. “Kingdom? Which one?” Yuri asked while leaning closer to Beomgyu. The two lovers fell asleep holding each other close with the princess’s head tucked under Beomgyu’s chin while Beomgyu had his arms wrapped around her warm body, and his chin on the princess head.

"A tangled love mystery" is my own Digital circus AU doomed yuri love story idea between two women who need closure and they find it with eachother but they dont know how long that can last for.

I got a lot of inspiration from horror love stories like "Let the right one in" and "The ghost of you" lumity Au.

I really want to turn this into a fanfic on AO3 and hopefully I will one day. For now. I hope the cover of this story will suffice. ❤️

1. What does Renegade mean to you?

Renegade has, in all honesty, probably changed the course of my life! That's not hyperbole--it's had such a huge influence on my hobbies, my friendships, my academic trajectory, even my career. I was still in undergrad when I found ASH's post on fanbinding, and I was very lost as to what the next steps would be. And like so many others experienced, the pandemic only made things even murkier and more isolating. Then I found ASH's manifesto in June 2020, worked up the courage to join the Discord in July 2020, and found a community of like-minded weirdos who were just as passionate (if not even more so!) about their favorite stories, and a craft that I fall a little bit more in love with every day (well, most days. fuckin printers man XD). I wrote my honors thesis thanks to Renegade; I've made lifelong friends thanks to Renegade; I have my current job, in a field I love, thanks to Renegade. (My first Rocky Horror Picture show at Havencon 2022? All thanks to Renegade :D) This really feels like my forever fandom home-- even when I jump around from fandom to fandom, there's always a wonderful and supportive community to fall back on. In short, I really love it here, I'm so pleased with what we've done so far, and I can't wait to see where we go! ❤️

2. Favorite Fic

As everyone else who answered this, this question is IMPOSSIBLE. However, if you put a gun to my head and told me to answer right now, I'd have to say Tell Me About the Big Bang (my binding of it here!) It's one of the fics that has touched me most deeply and which has probably had the greatest influence on my writing. It was one of the first fics I'd ever bound, and I really wanted to rebind it to see how far I've come!

3. One thing you'd like to learn more about

GOD SO MANY THINGS. Backing! Headband techniques. Chisel trimming. Edge gilding. Tiny books. More advanced Cricut techniques. More cohesive and professional-looking graphic design. This hobby is really a dozen hobbies in a trench coat, and there's so much to explore.

4. Paper!

For my textblocks, I use 20 lb. cream Hammermill paper! I order it in 11"x 17" and get it cut in half for short grain, like a lot of other folks at Renegade. Recently I've started experimenting with quarto-sized Legal (8.5"x 14")and fell in love. I also want to try a bunch of the other paper that folks have suggested (looking at @robins-egg-bindery Mohawk Via o.o). For my endpapers, I usually use scrapbook paper from those scrapbook paper packs you can get at Michaels and Joann's (and when they're on sale...WOOF)

5. Cloth!

DUO BOOKCLOTH MY BELOVED. God I wish I'd gotten in on the Renegade group order - but ah well. Big fan of making my own though! There are just so many options to choose from, so it really expands what you can do (again: a dozen hobbies and crafts in a trench coat)

6. The Glue War

LOVE me some PVA! I know that it gives you less time to do things, but I get impatient XD. Plus it's cheap and easy to find and ready to use right out of the bottle, which is great. I've tried my hand at making starch paste + PVA with very mixed (ha!) results, although I had a wonderful time with some methyl cell that @simply-sithel gifted me at Havencon last year <3 So mayhaps will have to buy more of that for a future project!

I also love my Cricut Explore 2, Charlotte! She holds up very well, although I think she's due for a blade refill soon. I've just been setting my pressure higher and higher LOL

7. Machines

Love my Epson ecotank! I recently bought it--for the first two years I was going to my local print shop because the quality was great and I had a discount card. Unfortunately the discount card eventually expired, so I decided to bite the bullet and get my own printer. I really love it! I didn't want to have to deal with laser and printing in color can get pricey--the cartridges are just so goddamn expensive, although I do think laser prints in higher quality. Mayhaps a future purchase, because I'd really like to experiment with foiling!

8. Favorite binding technique

Ooh this one is interesting! I know which part of the process I enjoy the most, which is sewing! Kettle stitch my beloved. ALTHOUGH I am a sucker for the French link too--it's just so pretty! And we just had a wonderful workshop put on last week by @queercore-curriculum on their...embroidered binding/long-stitch binding (??? I don't know if there's an official name for it yet), which I LOVE. Glueless bindings are SO cool and I would love to experiment more with them.

9. Your best tip/trick

Ooh! Hmmm...I'd say: never bind while you're super tired/hungry LOL. I've made many a preventable mistake very late at night because I wanted to get something cased in or glued before bed when I probably should've waited till morning XD That being said, on the flip side I think you should never be afraid to experiment! Go hog wild!!! Use those glitter pens!! Try out that fancy silk for your endbands!! Try that new binding style! And if you fuck up, remember that's okay too! These are handmade objects and those mistakes are proud proof of that, and of your journey as a fanbinder. Stick 'em in the channel on the Discord, laugh and (maybe cry a little XD) about it, and then keep going. tldr; ya live and learn!

10. Favorite Detail

Ooh, this one's hard! I love leaving little Easter eggs in my designs. I'd say my favorite is putting my maker's mark on things! My imprint is Moonham Press (a fun mix of my usernames, chubsthehamster and chubsonthemoon), and the logo includes a little crescent moon. I'd actually been binding for about two years when I finally made the imprint--I used to think that it was...idk, kind of weird to put myself in the book? Like I was taking away from the story inside it. But then I got to thinking--well, hey, I'm the one who made this book, right? If nothing else, putting my mark on it tells someone who may pick it up one day that I was connected to this story. Some conversations with some folks at Renegade during Havencon 2022 also helped me embrace this. So these days I put my imprint logo in the typesetting, and I also put it on the cover somewhere! My favorite spots are either on the spine, between the title and author name, or on the back cover, in the bottom left corner :D

11. Spines

Spines are the bane of my existence. Haha, jk. They're mostly just tedious, since they're one of the only parts of the process that still require precise measurement (I've cut templates for everything else by now, and I use my guillotine to cut boards, so that goes super fast). For my thicker books I use Bristol board; I actually still use the same sheets I bought in 2020 when I first started binding--I didn't know how much I would really need so I think I ordered four massive sheets which will probably last me for ten years LOL. For my thinner books, I use Davy board, which is a pain to cut but gives the book a really nice board feel. And for my paperbacks, the spine is just the cover, which I make out of kraft paper for the backing + the decorative paper (usually scrapbook paper or something I've designed and printed)

12. Mistakes/Fails

Ooh BOY are there many. My most recent was my experiment with making a hardback quarto letter. I made the hinge waaaaay too small so when I tested the case the textblock was sticking out of it LOL. But I've been pretty lucky--this is only the second case I've had to remake in my time as fanbinder *KNOCKS ON WOOD*, but my printer fuck-ups when I was trying to figure out how to print on legal sized paper (since my printer doesn't duplex) probably make up for the luck I've had in the case department XD. Casing in, though--I think I've had maaaaaybe...two or three case-ins where I was completely happy with the results. A large part of this is because my guillotine doesn't cut completely straight, so my squares are never even LOL. But hey, I'm not getting paid for this, and I'm having fun, so eh.

13. Process

Ooh, interesting! My process has remained largely unchanged--I think the only thing that has really changed is now the frequency at which I print. I used to print at a print shop, so I'd make typesets in large batches--usually two to four books, sometimes more (I think the most I've done at a time is five?), and I'd make a day out of it. Now that I have my printer at home though, I can do things in smaller batches! I can also test print things, so I've been able to get a lot more experimental with my books sizes and my covers. Everything else has remained largely the same--the first book I did I typeset in MS Word, but everything after that I've all done in Affinity Publisher. I typeset > print > bind > take pictures! I really like how different each step is (like I said, twelve different hobbies in a trench coat), so there's always something different to do if I get bored. My favorite parts are probably designing covers and sewing the signatures!

14. Storage solutions

OUGH. I have one of those rollaway drawer thingies for all my tools, a dozen scrapbook paper containers, several large baskets for my vinyl and cloth, a hanging stand for my larger sheets of decorative paper, a standing desk which holds my Cricut and printer (a few of the aforementioned vinyl baskets are under this desk too), another rollaway basket thingy that holds my printing paper and my press (also under the standing desk), another desk which holds both my two guillotines and cutting mats (and under that desk are all my scrapbook paper containers and Cricut mats), and a final third desk where I keep all my sewing stuff and where I do my typesetting and other sitting-down parts of the process. And of course my shelves for all my books! This doesn't really give a sense of where everything is, but it's actually fairly organized, and for the most part I know where everything is (except for my FUCKING bone folder god that thing is always ending up in places I do not remember putting it XD)

16. Dust jackets and covers

Oooh, I've never made a dust jacket before--I don't think my printer could handle the wonky paper size that it requires, but they look really cool and I'd maybe be up for making one someday! And covers! Both my greatest love and my greatest enemy. They're super fun to design, but this is one part of the process that always feels like an uphill battle for me! There are so many skilled and talented folks in Renegade with GORGEOUS covers, and it's always a mix of being incredibly inspired and getting some design envy--but either way it's very motivating to keep me out of my comfort zone and to always keep trying new things. I use decorative paper and scrapbook paper mostly for the base material (although I've begun experimenting with designing things digitally and printing them out on Epson matte presentation paper), and then the rest is fuck it, we ball. I usually design the cover last, so I have an entire typeset and title page already when I begin, which makes things a little easier since I have an already established aesthetic to work with. My font selection is kind of determined by how small the text for the title/author name is, since my Cricut isn't great at cutting super small sizes (Times New Roman, funnily enough, is one of the only fonts that it can do at smaller sizes LOL so a lot of the text on my covers/spines are in TNR). I'm excited to keep improving and experimenting in this area!

17. Published inspiration

Ooh!! This one's fun--when I first began making my Master pages in Affinity publisher, I literally grabbed the first few books I saw on my shelf and said 'alright, this looks good' and haven't looked back since LOL. Those books were Vintage's editions of Toni Morrison's novels, Picador's Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, Vintage's edition of Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark, Fall River's omnibus editions of Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes's works, Penguin Classic's Deluxe edition of Jane Austen's novels, and a few others that I can't remember. I looked at all these books, found what they had in common (for example, a simple title page before the decorative title page, the use of a single graphic or design at the beginning of each chapter, etc.) and went with that! I don't usually take inspiration from specific books, EXCEPT for a project I'm currently working on which I'm super excited about :3 More TK here eheh (ADDITION 3/7: I was talking about Maybe sprout wings here LOL)

18. Illustrations

FANART MY BELOVED. I LOVE including fanart in my books, because it's such a lovely demonstration of the communal nature of these stories and it's so fun getting to collect all the pieces. For free use graphics my favorite sites are Adobe Stock images and Heritage Library. Heritage in particular has a beautiful selection of free vintage graphics packs that I've used for years now. And very occasionally, wingdings fonts will have something I really like XD

19. Favorite tool

Despite my gripes earlier about always misplacing it, I ADORE my bone folder. It's a funky lil dude and it makes all my edges nice and crisp! I can't wait for the retreat bone folder fufu :3 Also a very big fan of my guillotine, which despite its flaws makes my life a hell of a lot easier in the long run, as well as my presses, which were handmade by my dad and do their jobs very well (squiiiiiiish)

20. Favorite part of the binding process

Oooh, this one's fun! I really like the actual construction of the book--sewing sigs is always relaxing and has been one of my fave parts since the very beginning. Recently I've started to really enjoy designing covers, especially if there are a lot of physical elements (like layering scrapbook paper or playing around with Mod Podge).

I had the absolute privilege to hold @clovenhoofbindery's copy of Away Childish Things at Havencon last year. Literally every book Space makes I fall in love with, and her designs are a HUGE inspiration for me. Everything from the typesetting to cover design to physical construction--I lose my marbles every time.

21. Inspo: The binder that inspired you!

Ohhh this one's so hard! Literally every time I check the #show-off channel in the Discord I'm struck by so many beautiful books. I'm going to cheat and name a few people here, but this list is by no means comprehensive and doesn't even begin to cover everyone I could name.

Everything @pleasantboatpress binds is just so beautiful. Their color choices are always inspired and their headbands make me want to cry! Their bind of Unconditional in particular had me foaming at the mouth.

The quality of everything @zhalfirin-binds makes, likewise, always blows me away. Her books are so polished and professional, and her photos make me feel like I'm in a museum when I'm trawling her blog for inspo!

@simply-sithel's tiny books are literally the coolest things ever! I'm still working my way through the Binderary vids and I can't wait to get to hers. Six plays with form in mind-bending and truly innovative ways, and her blog is wonderland of tiny and fantastical book creatures.

@teleportbooks's binds are the definition of classy and refined. They're so good at designing their books according to the contents of the fic--their binding of Thirty-Three Lashes in particular is just the best design centered around fic content and title I've seen. Their designs always make me melt a little when I see them!

@no-name-publishing's endbands are to DIE for. Like fr I am in awe every time!!! And Kam's cover + title page designs are a huge source of inspo for me--forever in love with this bind of theirs, with the beautiful painted cover + matching endpapers T_T

And of course!!! I (and everyone else) wouldn't be here without our beloved leader, @armoredsuperheavy. He's the first binder that ever inspired me, and he continues to do so today!

22. Inspo: The fic that inspired you!

My original answer was also my answer for 27 ("First bind"), but I'm gonna say something a little different here! I usually know pretty quickly whether I'm interested in binding something, but very rarely has a fic gotten me hook, line, and sinker the way @that-banhus's King of Infinite Space did. Like, from the first line I was like "oh god I need to hold this one." And eventually I did! :3

23. Author spotlight: Someone you've bound

AHHHHHH this one is so hard too! I've bound a good number of authors over the years, many of whom are my dear friends, and to spotlight only a single one would be impossible. So I'm just going to poke @dodici12, whose killugon fic See You Upside Down is one of the best killugon reunion fics ever in my very humble hamster opinion. Hiiiii Tessa ilysm <333

24. Author spotlight: Someone you'd like to bind

OOOOOH. Many, many fics are in my queue. I'll keep them to myself for now, since I prefer to ask for author permission via DM, but atm I have my eye on a few Good Omens authors whose work I adore!

25. Favorite bind by you!

THIS ONE IS SO HARD AJLSKDJF. I love all my babies so much and I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish and what I learned from each of them. However, if you put a gun to my head and asked me to choose right now, I'd have to go with my most recent bind of Maybe sprout wings by @moorishflower. I'm really pleased with both its construction and particularly the curation of its contents, which includes the work of nearly a dozen people. It was my attempt at capturing the communal nature of fanfiction's creation and dispersal, and it was also my Big Project this Binderary. I'm ridiculously fond and proud of it!

26. Favorite bind by someone else!

THIS ONE IS SO HARD TOO HELP. Okay this is only one of my many many favorites, but dragging Space back out here again to say that her bind of Away Childish Things permanently altered my brain chemistry. Like, the cutout!!! The patronuses!!!! The title page cutout???? THE KEY??? Again, I held this book in my hands IN PERSON last year and I'm still not over it. The quality of the work is absolutely bonkers crazy incredible and I think about it Often.

27. First bind

The very first fic I ever bound was On Stranger Tides by @theroyalsavage. It's still one of my favorite fics ever today--it has the perfect blend of action/adventure, romance, humor, and fantasy. It gives me the good ol' "roaming the high seas with found family and magic and pirates" ache. It holds a very special place in my heart!

This was my first year doing Binderary, and I had such a blast! It's so crazy seeing how far Renegade has come, from a little Discord for book shop chatting (ASH mentioned in one of the talks how it was just called, like, "Bookbinding Discord" at the beginning LOL) to now. We're well on our way to a proper organizational structure, with several yearly events, in-person meetups, and thousands of members all over the world. And we have so much more planned! It feels truly special, and I'm so grateful to everyone who makes this possible.

I would say at least medium or small, since Ellie would be one of those characters who barely appears in the episodes... It would be "semi-canon", since Looney Tunes has several versions and in some Wile E. would have a crush on her and in others she would have a crush on him, whether it was reciprocated or not. (The only version where they are Canon is in Duck Dodgers!)

About Jade and Jack... At least average, since Jack is more shipped with Grim and Nergal. I would say a "semi-canon", since if we had an episode of the two of them interacting, there would be moments of flirting and one of them (Jack) would secretly like the other (Jade).

💘: Why would people love your ship? Why would people dislike your ship? How might it start debates?

In question about DaisyBoom, Maybe it's because they both match because they are "failures" in their families. Some would say that Ellie would "get in the way" of the other ships with Wile E. or because she seems to be "not very interesting". They would almost not have it, at the very least they would forget her a lot.

Jade and Jack's dynamic is quite "chaotic" at times, inspired by Ranma 1/2! So they weould have lots of funny moments together... Most people saying it's "wrong" because of the age not between them (Jade is the same age as Grim, back in the time of the dinosaurs. While Jack was born in the medieval era.) or because they would find her annoying. I think if it was 2014, there would have been some. But we probably wouldn't have many nowadays and they would even try to turn them into "Yuri" (I have hc of Jack being a butch non-binary lesbian, so...).

It’s funny how I received two similar music asks in a row, but because this one is actually a different question on the topic, I can answer this one separately!

However, since even the last music post had me in agony (/j), I don’t think I’m going to go through every single character’s individual favourite song and artist, and moreso just their music taste (especially since some characters would canonically listen to music from cultures or genres I don’t listen to or know much about myself).

DR96

Hayasaka - most people would say classical, but my big brain (/lh) has bestowed the headcanon ever: vocaloid. I think it would be funny if this man had a secret love for the music, walking to work listening to the most depressing or cutesy song known to Earth. His favourite producer would probably be wowaka (rip) or 40mp.

Kurumada - that kind of grunge, heavy beat, but sort of depressing music? Not trap per say, but like r&b and rap. Or whatever is playing at the gym at the time, sometimes a song will get added to his workout playlist if it sounds good enough.

Mai - she’s that kind of pop girl, but also likes some more sombre songs here and there. Definitely indulges in songs with playful and or sensual lyrics.

Walter - (this is where my disclosure starts to show) Like classic, 50-80s songs. Jazz and blues, or something he can sing along to on the radio.

Jesse - hip-hop, trap, some heavy metal, rock, techno and house music. Anything with a stanky-ass beat (/lh) and Jesse will probably listen to it.

Saiki - I’ve given him the headcanon that he listens to hyperpop, speedcore and breakcore. I got the idea from another tumblr post that said he’d use loud, scratchy music to try and block out the thoughts of other people. It’s implied that’s what he was listening to during chapter 3 as well!

Kaidou - what we all listened to when we were 13 and wanted to be edgy. Also fandom songs (I know this isn’t nationally accurate unless there are hardcore jp fandom song fans lol), and video game OSTs that make him feel powerful.

Retsuko - heavy metal, obviously. But, I think she also likes pop and idol music, considering her history with that, hehe

Natsuki - vocaloid hardcore to the max (some favourite producers be like deco*27 and syudou). Also J-pop/idol music (and some video game OSTs).

Yuri - now I think she would like some classical music, considering her whole elegant aesthetic. I think she’d personally like piano and violin arrangements though, since they are relaxing to listen to while reading. I think she would be convinced to listen to some J-pop after Natsuki begs encourages her.

Hiroshi - he would be a classical guy too, but he would also enjoy some video game OSTs (since he’s kind of a certified gamer if you consider the novels and that chibi anime thingy).

Brian - anything past 1996 would be periodically inaccurate, but I feel like he’s the type of guy who’d try to listen to anything if someone recommended it to him. I think he’d enjoy new-age, or something relaxing on par with the vibes of his game’s OST (synth… rock? I’m not a genres expert).

Bojack - it’s either something really depressing or really sexual and there is just that scale and nothing else

Latte - canonically, folk and symphony since I think that’s the sort of music Parfaedia has. Although, she’d also listen to jazz and dance (she that type of teacher to play music in class all the students try to grin and bare because no one listens to it anymore /lh)

L - whatever music is scientifically proven to enhance focus. Classical? Some jazz? I feel like L likes to work in silence, but with music on the bare occasion.

Ena - something that we would not be able to comprehend if we heard it. Lyrics that sound like 14 different languages all mashed up together. Instruments that shouldn’t exist. Voices that shouldn’t exist. The same song that runs for 4 minutes on the first play, 15 seconds on the second, and 2 hours on the third. Or just webcore/weirdcore instrumental music lmao

DR69

Luigi - calm jazz and swing, I also think he be into acoustic arrangements.

Mario - I think he’d listen to energetic music to get himself pumped up. But also enjoys the folk music of the mushroom kingdom.

Peter - I would say 50-90s songs, ranging from classic hits to goofy ass songs (like the Rock Lobster bit)

Brian - I think he’s into ska, jazz, and blues. Also very pretentious with his music taste lol

Miku - Pop, dance, techno and electronica are her mains, but she can dabble into any genre. Likes to support and listen to her other fellow voice synth’s music.

Teto - rock, but also some dance/pop. Secretly enjoys listening to Miku’s songs (as long as she’s not around)

Nagito - nicher artists of alt and synth. I don’t think he’d be into mainstream music. Also depressing lyrics are his go-to lol

Sans - ironically, the stankiest beat you’ve ever heard and penis music (rubber band). Unironically, some smooth tunes akin to Nastablook’s music taste.

Parappa - rap, hip-hop, r&b and dance. Could unironically make a great rap over the instrumentals of ‘A Pimp Named Slickback’.

Fluttershy - Equestria folk music, acapella and that musical-type genre they have in the show’s music.

Ayano - whatever her Senpai is listening to. So, I would assume the latest trending J-pop mostly.

Ashley - rock and alt. Emo type beat. Mainly female vocals. One or two heavy metal songs. Any other warioware cast member will die upon listening to any of it lol

2D - his favourite band is canonically The Human League, so other new wave and synth-pop stuff too.

Mr. Krabs - sea shanties, unironically. He probably sang a lot of them while on the navy.

Dedede - (I have no Kirby lore but I must scream) I feel like he’d play classical music in his castle to give off those regal king vibes. But he’d also enjoy energetic music like his boss battle themes.

The Conductor - western and western movie soundtracks. Also some smooth jazz and soul. I like to think he likes the sounds of the piano the most, from the ‘heart to heart’ OST
