I'm ill and so in need of a giggle and this seemed funny to ask. Which of these Arrowverse characters gave off the biggest 'this might as well happen' energy after everything they'd experience in hero world?

The Love We Deserve: Arrow 2x06 Review (Keep Your Enemies Closer)
This is the episode I knew the writers were going THERE with Olicity. I wasnât sure about endgame. I certainly did not know how Oliver and Felicityâs story would unfold, but âKeep Your Enemies Closerâ confirmed we were in this, fam. We were in this all the way.
2013 Jen's live reaction:
Letâs dig inâŠ
Olicity
The first scene immediately sets up this juxtaposition between Felicity, Oliver and Isabel and it carries through the episode. Itâs not a love triangle. Isabel doesnât matter enough to warrant a point on a triangle, but they use her (quite effectively I might add) to show Oliver and Felicity are anything but âjust friends.â
Isabel is bitching at Oliver for whatever-he-failed-to-do-this-week and Felicity is trying to get his attention for some arrow (Roy Harper) related business. Initially, she tries using âMr. Queenâ in a very boss/employee way, but ultimately is fed up with being ignored and yells âOliver!â

Isabel barely tosses Felicity a glance, but Oliver ends the Co-CEO argument to leave with Felicity. Trust me when I say, Isabel clocks this decision.

Source: @okmcintyre
Oliver and Felicity join Diggle in his search for Lyla Michaels. She went to Russia to search for Deadshot and now sheâs missing. Oliver uses a Queen Consolidated subsidiary in Moscow as their cover story and use of the company jet. Unfortunately, Isabel tags along. She believes Oliver is meeting with their overseas partners behind her back. Once she discovered Oliver didnât have any meetings planned with their subsidiary in Moscow, her accusations shift to Felicity.
Oliver: Iâm not this person you think I am.
Isabel: That depends.
Oliver: On what?
Isabel: On if I think you used the corporate jet for a weekend of fun with your assistant.
Oliver: Excuse me?
He does his very best to look incredulous at the idea of hooking up with Felicity while on a romantic weekend in Moscow. I really wouldnât put Russia on my Top 10 list of romantic getaways. Tahiti made a lot more sense, but whatever. The point is â Oliverâs feathers are immediately ruffled. Did I see him blushing? Oliver lies all day every day both professionally and personally, but this line of questioning has him quite tongue tied.
Isabel: A blonde IT girl all of a sudden gets promoted to be assistant to the CEO? There are only two ways that happens. One is nepotism and she doesnât look like your cousin.
Source: Paigeota
It absolutely should be happening, Oliver.
Isabel: What were her qualifications aside from an abundance of short skirts?
Source: Paigeota
This scene is incredibly important because A) itâs hilarious and B) this is the first time Arrow has addressed OUTLOUD Felicity Smoak as a love interest for Oliver Queen. Everything up until now has been gazing, fervent glances, shoulder touches, soft tones, sexual innuendo and the electric chemistry between Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards. But Isabel puts her money on the table and flat out accuses Oliver of sleeping with Felicity.
We, the audience, know Oliver and Felicity are not having sex (much to our horror and disappointment), but Isabel presents the one question weâve been dying to ask Oliver â does he WANT to sleep with Felicity? And his answer is⊠glorious.
First he laughs, uncomfortably, like this is the most INSANE line of questioning to ever take place. Keep in mind this man was tortured on Lian Yu for information about bombs, planes, the location of a Chinese archer and Japanese soldiers bones from WWII. But nope, Oliver is shocked â SHOCKED I TELL YOU â that anyone would ever think heâs having sex with Felicity. Methinks he doth protest too much.
But Oliver trips up at the mention of skirts. He stutters his way through defending Felicity. It is damn near gallant of him to argue they are an appropriate length. No ma'am, the skirts are not too short. Not for Oliver Queen!
We can chalk this up to Oliver being a flesh and blood heterosexual man. The day they stop looking is the day they die. But this is the first time anyone has asked Oliver if he is sexually attracted to Felicity. He blushes, laughs, protests and stammers his way through his answer like a 13 year old boy.
Also, itâs extremely important to remember one episode prior Oliver was rejecting Laurel Lance in her apartment hallway after she tried to kiss him - his primary female love interest. Then the very next episode, the writers are crafting a scene forcing Oliver to address a romantic relationship with Felicity.
Is it a funny scene? Yes, but the real win for Olicity shippers is the question is being ASKED. The answer is even better. Yes, Oliver has noticed the skirts and the spectacular legs that go with them. You donât say that about a character who is going to remain a platonic, comic relief Girl Wednesday.
We are so far from done. Diggle infiltrates the Russian prison where Lyla is being held while Oliver and Felicity meet up with Anatoly to purchase a Russian police car as part of their escape plan. Felicity is extremely anxious about Diggle, so Oliver offers her some witty banter and a shoulder touch as reassurance.
When the Russians try to fleece Oliver he threatens to make their children orphans in Russian.
Itâs all very Bratva Oliver and menacing, but with Felicity he makes a little joke and winks! One could say his demeanor is quite light hearted â dare I say flirting?
Source: Paigeota
Oliver returns to the hotel and has a drink with Isabel. Bizarrely, he brings up Felicity again â unprompted. He couldnât wiggle out of this line of questioning fast enough and now he canât stop bringing it up! Pick a lane, my dude.
Oliver: Does everyone really think that Felicity and I areâŠ
EXPLAIN THE DOT DOT DOT OLIVER! LET'S BE SPECIFIC!
Isabel: No. Just everyone who works at Queen Consolidated.
My kingdom to hang out by the water cooler in that office.

More with the loud chuckling. Nothing to see here but friendship. Look at all the friendship. Hardy har har.
Isabel: You donât seem like the kind of man who has female friends.
Thatâs the understatement of the century. Putting Oliverâs sexual partners aside for the moment - Felicity is in a unique position. Oliver doesnât have a lot of friends let alone female friends. Felicity is also the only female in his life who knows heâs the Arrow. Has he told her everything about his past? No, but relax. Weâre only on Season 2.Â
Oliver has shared quite a lot with Felicity in a relatively short amount of time. He trusts her (as much as he's capable of) and Oliver does not trust easily. Felicity is the only woman Oliver can be completely and authentically himself with. This makes her more than unique â it makes Felicity special. I think Oliver understands that and he approaches their friendship with reverence. He toes a very strict line with Felicity â for a very good reason which he will reveal later on in the episode.
Isabel: Underneath that swagger, I see you pretty clearly. Youâre intelligent, driven and lonely.
Isabel reveals she doesnât buy Oliverâs bad boy routine and instead believes she shares a lot in common with him. We can take this conversation one of two ways â 1) two people connecting over vodka and a shared ability to speak Russian or 2) Oliver is working Isabel to keep the real reason for this trip a secret. Bonus? He gets laid in the process.
Clearly, Iâm going with option 2. He feeds her a line about loneliness in Russian and Isabel practically races Oliver back to the hotel room.
Mercifully, we donât have to watch them have sex. Oliver is pressed for time because they need to save Diggle, but Isabel is fine with the wham bam thank you ma'am. Oliver thinks he left enough time, but as he opens the door to his hotel there stands Felicity just about to knock.
Oliver left Isabel undressed and in his bed, but the woman finds her clothes with lightning speed when she hears Felicity at the door and purposefully makes her exit then.
If Isabel bought Oliverâs âweâre just friendsâ speech then doing this would not be necessary. Isabel wants Felicity to know they slept together. Regardless of what people at Queen Consolidated think, Isabel knows thereâs more going on between them than Oliver will admit. She wants to hurt Felicity. Isabel is marking her territory and I would encourage you to listen to Stephen Amellâs thoughts on why. #Cosigned.
However, this is NOT information Oliver wants Felicity to know. He is so embarrassed he canât even look at Felicity as Isabel walks out the door.
Felicity is stunned. Sheâs actually speechless. Oliver tries to offer up some feeble explanation, but he doesnât get very far.Â
Felicity immediately makes a joke to alleviate the tension, but as she turns we can see her hurt and anger.
She cannot fathom a reason why Oliver would sleep with this woman. Whether or not Oliver heard Felicityâs remarks â he grimaces because he knows he screwed up. BIG TIME. It is so awkward and painful.
But again, the viewers must ask a fundamental question â why is this scene being written like Felicity caught Oliver cheating on her? Oliver is single. Isabel is single. Felicity is single. Nobody is dating anybody. And yet, the Arrow writers make it clear Felicity is hurt by this encounter â like sheâs been betrayed.
As for Oliver, he absolutely did NOT want Felicity to know he slept with Isabel. He knows it will hurt her. This shows Oliver is somewhat aware Felicity has feelings for him. Congratulations, Oliver youâre not a total pine tree.
Whatâs more telling is Oliverâs reaction. He acts like Felicity caught him doing something wrong. If he didnât return Felicityâs feelings then her opinion wouldnât really matter. Itâs never stopped him from dating or sleeping with other women before. And this is just a one night stand. Not even â it was a quickie. But Oliver is ashamed. This makes him look bad. Generally speaking, when you have romantic feelings for someone you donât want that person to see you hooking up with someone else. It sends a very mixed message.
THIS IS NOT HOW YOU WRITE A PLATONIC COUPLE!!!
Felicity Smoak wears her heart on her sleeve. She canât let it go. Itâs not just that Oliver slept with someone. Itâs that he slept with ISABEL. The woman who is trying to steal his company. Her bitchiness is embedded in her DNA, so Felicityâs work environment probably less than fun. Felicity cannot stand Isabel and Oliver slept with her. HER.Â
Felicity: Over 64 million women over the age of consent in Russia and you sleep with her.
But this time it is Oliverâs turn to make a joke to deflect. The entire vibe is coupleâs fight.
Source: Paigeota
But Felicity is not joking when they get home and sheâs tired of the mixed messages. So ask the question point blank. God bless her. No sexual innuendos, stammers, deflections, furtive glances or unspoken truths.
 Source: Paigeota
Oliverâs initial response is kind of flippant to be honest.
 Source: Paigeota
He gives Felicity a very generic âIt just happened,â which is the exact non-explanation cheaters use. Sex doesnât âjust happen.â Itâs a decision. Oliver made a choice and Felicity is trying to understand why because maybe if she understands then it will hurt less. Even worse, he says it didnât mean anything. The problem is it meant something to Felicity. Take it away Willow Rosenberg.
Xander: We were just kissing. It doesn't mean that much.
Willow: No. It just means you'd rather be with someone you hate, than be with me. - BTVS "Innocence"
Truly one of the most devastating lines in television history delivered by an equally heart wrenching performance by Alyson Hannigan. What Felicity is truly asking Oliver is not, âWhy her?â but rather, âWhy not me?â
Felicityâs disappointment in Oliverâs response is palpable and feels very similar to their scene in 1x12 when she asked Oliver if she could trust him. She didnât want a flip answer then and she doesnât want one now.
Source: Paigeota
Oliver lowers his voice into his gentle Felicity tone and says, âHey,â so sheâll look at him again. The real intimacy between them is revealed in a single word. He cannot wiggle out of this, so Oliver is approaching her question, and pain, with the reverence she deserves. Felicity closes her eyes for a moment before she meets Oliverâs gaze again, like sheâs steeling herself against whatever explanation is coming next. This time the answer will be honest, but it will hurt more.
Source: Paigeota
Oliver speaks hypothetically of course, in an attempt to discuss what he feels for Felicity without really discussing it. It keeps their friendship in this little protective bubble as Oliver takes an infinitesimally small step over the strict line he has drawn between them. Oliver feels life as The Arrow, and his proximity to danger, prevents him being in a loving relationship. He slept with Isobel because he doesnât care about her. Oliver wonât be with Felicity because he does care about her.
What is MONUMENTALLY IMPORTANT about this scene is Oliver acknowledges the elephant in the room for the very first time. He feels more than friendship for Felicity. Â Does Oliver Queen love Felicity Smoak? Yes. Is he ready to admit that to himself - let alone to her? No. Oliver believes his love endangers Felicity. He cannot lose her, so he will not allow himself to love her. As frustrating as Oliverâs answer is itâs not difficult to understand why he feels this way - especially after losing Tommy.
Felicity gives a little nod like this was the explanation she expected, but still needed to hear. Despite the hypothetical, they both know Oliver is speaking about her. Rather than a meaningful relationship, Oliver has resigned himself to a life of loneliness. He may have hook ups and one night stands to fill his bed and relieve an urge, but he withholds access to his heart. This is not just about Oliverâs refusal to truly love someone. Itâs also about his refusal to allow anyone to love him in return.
He's taken bullets that hurt less than this.
In the end, itâs Felicityâs response that truly packs the emotional punch. She believes Oliver deserves better, regardless of his way of life. He deserves more than empty affairs and lonely, dark and violent nights.
There is so much this man cannot forgive himself for and the guilt is overwhelming. Oliver believes he has no right to happiness. Loneliness is his penance. When all you experience is pain and loss it can be difficult to imagine a life without it.
"We accept the love we think we deserve." - Perks of Being a Wallflower
Oliver hurt Felicity deeply by sleeping with Isabel. They both know it. He continues to hurt her by drawing this line in the sand between them. Yet, in the face of that pain, Felicity dreams a life for Oliver thatâs more than the one heâs resigned himself to. It is forgiveness, compassion and unconditional love in action. He does not feel worthy of Felicity Smoak, but those are the lies Oliverâs guilt tells him. She knows the truth.
Source: Paigeota
The stunned look on his face says it all - no one has ever told Oliver Queen he deserves to be loved.Â
John Diggle
Contrary to the previous six pages, this is actually a John Diggle focused episode. And boy, does he drop a bomb on Oliver and Felicity.
Oliver didnât immediately recognize Lylaâs name, which is fine because I donât think theyâve shared a scene. Felicity reminds him Lyla is Johnâs ARGUS girlfriend and I had whiplash at that status update. Girlfriend? When did we get to girlfriend? I feel more comfortable with super spy sexy time friend.
Diggle lowers the boom. Lyla Michaels is his ex-wife. SAY WHAT??!
Felicity: Explain that sentence.
Honestly, how do Oliver and Felicity not know this yet? What do they talk about in the bunker? It canât always be about crimes and arrows. Sharing is caring OTA â embrace it.
Diggle: We couldnât figure out how to stay married without a war to fight.
Diggle and Lyla were married while on tour in Afghanistan, but divorced shortly after returning home. Lyla joined ARGUS and Diggle went back for another tour.
Diggle and Oliver hook up with Anatoly (!!!) and he informs them Lyla was trying to break into the worst prison in Russia on a tip that Deadshot was being held there. Unfortunately, she was captured. It hasnât been a pleasant stay given how battered Lyla is looking.
The only way in Gulag is to be a prisoner, so Diggle volunteers. Oliver balks at that, but Diggle needs him on the outside make the moves necessary for an escape. Also, Lyla is Diggleâs woman and he's going to save her, damn it. SWOON. Find you a man with a hero's complex. They make divine husbands. I speak from experience.
Anatoly provides enough drugs to land Diggle in prison for 400 years. Oliver and Felicity are nervous about this plan. In one of the sweetest moments between Diggle and Felicity, she gently kisses him on the cheek and wraps his scarf around his neck. Itâs a good luck kiss, but everyone is clearly worried itâs a goodbye.
Of course, once John is inside he runs right into Deadshot. He sure is easy to find for a globetrotting criminal mastermind. Deadshot knows where Lyla is being held and wants in on the escape plan in exchange for her location. After Deadshot kills Anatolyâs guard, John has no choice but to team up with him.
Lyla: You came for me.
Diggle: I always have and I always will.
This is what stellar ships are made of folks. This is the content we're here for.
Of course, Oliver and Felicity rescue Diggle, Lyla and Deadshot, but the pinnacle of the episode for John is when they dump Deadshot on the side of the road. Theyâll help him get out of prison, but not out of the country. John holds a gun on him â ready to pull the trigger to avenge his brotherâs death, but he canât do it.
Deadshot: Thatâs the thing about honor, John. You canât turn it on and off.
What a great line! I love that line!!! Itâs so fully encapsulates John Diggleâs character. Iâm sorry I know heâs a killer, but between Deadshot bringing Olicity together with the ridden computer and this moment with Johnâ Iâm really starting to like this guy.
Deadshot offers John some additional information about his brotherâs death. A thank you for not killing him I guess. He asks John how he thought Andy was killed.
Diggle: You shot at a client that Andy was protecting and you missed.
Deadshot: I donât miss. Your brother was the contract.
Diggle: Who would want to kill Andy?
Deadshot: I donât know their names, just an alias. H.I.V.E.
The plot thickens! Iâm sure all the comic fans were excited about the introduction of H.I.V.E. I was clueless, but with a quick Google youâll discover H.I.V.E is a terrorist organization. So, this means one of two things, Johnâs brother was an honorable man who ticked off a terrorist organization or Andy was not as honorable as his brother and ticked off a terrorist organization. This adds a layer of complexity the Diggle vs. Deadshot storyline desperately needed. It was running a little stale.
Diggle: You know me and Carly broke up because I couldnât love her and hate him at the same time.
Lyla: Iâm honored to be the exception.
Diggle: Lyla, you were always the exception.
Ok, Iâm onboard the SS Dyla. Letâs get remarried. Iâm ready. Â
We go from the Dyla love scene directly to Olicityâs final scene in the office. This is not a mistake. John guides Oliver on his path. This also includes his romantic life and one of the ways Diggle guides Oliver is by example. Dyla always points the way.
Stray Thoughts
This is the first episode we meet Amanda Waller. Sheâs loyal to Lyla Michaels and knows about Oliver and Diggleâs vigilante operation, so sheâs arriving on the scene as a fully formed bad ass. Â
Diggle refused Anatolyâs vodka. Based on the look Oliver gave him Iâm guessing that was a very bad idea. Drink the vodka, John.
âI wouldnât mind a drink.â I mean honestly the boys could be so sexist sometimes. Felicity likes booze too!
âI will take care of her.â Snort. Yeah, Iâll bet Oliver.
Isobel immediately jumps to the conclusion that Felicity is sleeping her way up to the top. Way to be supportive of your fellow female coworkers and fighting that glass ceiling together, Isobel. This just makes her more evil in my opinion.
Sara left town. Thatâs fine I need a break from the Lance drama.
Quentin lets Roy go because he's working with the Arrow too, so I'm counting Lance as part of the team.
No Laurel. Hallelujah. Did you even notice she was gone? Nope. This character lifts right out.
Thereâs this whole weird subplot where Moiraâs lawyer wants Thea to dump Roy because heâs a felon and it makes Moira look bad. Sure, Roy Harper is the problem. Not the 500 people who died. Even Moira thinks this plot line is ridiculously stupid and gets these crazy kids back together. Can we be done with the Theroy breakups? Iâm tired. Find these two an actual storyline.
Slade: I will not be the reason something happens to you.
Shado: When I care about someone there's nothing I won't do for them.
Slade is in rough freaking shape after being burned over half his body, but he gets snuggle time with Shado so it isnât all bad.
Never trust a Russian woman. Has Oliver ever seen a movie?
Flashback Sara betrays Oliver and gives Ivo the location of Slade, Shado and the soldier bones. Let's go with Stockholm syndrome to explain this insanity. Or she's just completely terrified of Ivo. Either works. But still - dick move Sara.
Why does David Ramsey wear shirts? Itâs really a crime against humanity.

Watching the Arrowverse:
So, Iâm watching the Arrowverse all the way through, in order, for the first time. To clarify: I watched Flash & Legends when it was on TV years ago (though I jumped into Flash on S2), but stopped at a certain point when both got a bit too silly for me (I was weak back then. Iâm ready for the goofy shit now) and never watched Arrow, Supergirl, or any of the others except for when there were crossover episodes and I had to.
End of last year I watched S1&2 and a bit of 3 of the Flash, but got a bit frustrated when Arrow characters would pop in and be completely different than when I last saw them and I just wanted to know everything that was going on. So, Iâm just watching it all (almost. Not watching Black Lightning, I watched a couple episodes when it was on and did not care for it at all).
That means two seasons of Arrow! Currently Iâm in the middle of S2 and just watched 2x14. Here are my thoughts on the show so far:
Short disclaimer: Iâm more of a Marvel fan so please excuse my somewhat surface-level DC knowledge
To be completely honest, I didnât care for S1 for a multitude of reasons that I wonât list because I really donât want to turn off any Arrow fans that might be reading this right off the bat. So, letâs just do the positives
Donât like Oliver (okay I lied) but I will admit, heâs getting better. Iâm not fully buying in to him and Felicity, but him telling her âyouâll always be my girlâ did make me swoon a bit. I am not immune to a good romantic line like that.
But must he have some sort of romantic or sexual relationship with literally every. Single. Woman. On. The. Show.
Diggle and Felicity are so sweet and I really like them (and honestly. . . most of the time I think they should just be together and Oliver can go fuck himself)
Laurel is a hot mess and kind of pissing me off but! Iâm so delighted that a TV show is letting a woman be that messy and mean and then also letting her have a redemption journey. Itâs really cool to see.
Love Sara, Iâve always loved Sara ever since I watched Legends years ago. I screamed when she and Nyssa kissed (knew she was bi but for some reason it shocked me that they showed it that early)
Thea is kind of annoying, but her boyfriend is so much worse. I do not like Roy.
I hated Detective Lance (what is his name? Quentin?) in S1 but now that he got the stick out of his ass I really like him
Didnât care for their Huntress. Again, my DC knowledge is limited & Iâve only seen her in a few cartoons and Birds of Prey so idk if it was accurate, but I didnât like it
Also, Amanda Waller??? And itâs Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who is awesome and who I didnât even know was in this. Are they doing Suicide Squad?? I mean they must be but thatâs wild to me. Idk why. Again, I know nothing.
Donât love the villains of the week that they have. I like the Flashâs a lot more (I also just like the Flash as a show a lot more but again, Iâll keep the negatives to a minimum).
It was so fun seeing Barry for a few episodes (and actually seeing the lead up to him getting his powers!)
I didnât like the flashbacks at first but now theyâre my favourite part of the show
The island trio of Oliver, Shado, and Slade is my favourite thing ever
Speaking of Shado. That is my girl and fuck them for killing her. I kind of figured she was going to die but that doesnât mean I have to like it.
Now, for my favourite character in the whole show. Slade motherfucking Wilson. Heâs perfect and I love him so much and I knew he was going to be a bad guy from the beginning but you know when you rewatch a show and youâre like âbut maybe itâll be different this time?â Yeah. Thatâs kind of how I felt about Slade. I knew he was going to be Deathstroke but like. What if heâs not and he just stays good forever?
His friendship with Oliver is so great and I just. . . I donât want to talk about it.
I knew right from the beginning that he was in love with Shado (even though I felt a bit crazy because it wasnât verbally acknowledged on the show until right before he died) and I will scream that they shouldâve been together until I go to my goddamn grave
I also just want Slade to be good because I know what happens to villains in these shows and I donât want him to die or get locked up or whatever and then Iâll never see him again and I donât think Iâll be able to handle that
Do I have a bit (a lot) of a crush? Perhaps.
But heâs also just such a great character.
Ugh.
Anyway. This has also been the first show in a while that at the end of at least three episodes I have screamed out loud âWHATâ
At the end of 2x14 when Oliver comes home and Slade is just sitting in his living room I fully had to get up and take a walk
Still havenât watched the next episode because Iâm still taking it in
Also I know Iâm probably on borrowed time with Slade so I donât want to blow through this second half of S2 too fast
But on the other hand I really want to watch the Flash so I donât even know what Iâm doing honestly
Anyway I think thatâs it so far (though Iâm probably forgetting stuff) but I have no one to talk to about these shows so if thereâs anyone left in this fandom that wants to hear me rant and needs someone to rant to, feel free to reply/DM me! Iâve been keeping all my feelings about this bottled up and I simply cannot take it anymore.

I was bored so I put Team Arrow into factions from Divergent
Oliver Queen (Green Arrow):
Faction: Dauntless
Reasoning: Oliver is fearless, brave, and physically capable, embodying the Dauntless spirit of courage and protection. His journey involves overcoming physical and emotional challenges, which aligns well with Dauntless values.
Felicity Smoak:
Faction: Erudite
Reasoning: Felicity is highly intelligent, resourceful, and has a knack for technology. Her primary strengths lie in her mind, making her a natural fit for Erudite, which values knowledge and intellectual prowess.
John Diggle:
Faction: Abnegation
Reasoning: Diggle shows qualities of selflessness, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty. He often puts others before himself, especially in his role as Oliver's confidant and protector, which resonates with the selfless nature of Abnegation.
Thea Queen (Speedy):
Faction: Dauntless
Reasoning: Like her brother, Thea evolves to demonstrate bravery, resilience, and a fierce protective streak. Her journey from a troubled youth to a warrior mirrors the path of a Dauntless member.
Roy Harper:
Faction: Dauntless
Reasoning: Roy is impulsive, courageous, and has a strong desire to fight for those he cares about. His quick adaptation to the vigilante life and his willingness to face danger head-on fit perfectly with Dauntless traits.
Laurel Lance (Black Canary):
Faction: Candor
Reasoning: Laurel is known for her honesty, even when it's difficult or painful. Her pursuit of justice through legal channels and later as Black Canary reflects a commitment to truth and candor, though she also has elements of Dauntless.
Quentin Lance:
Faction: Candor
Reasoning: Like his daughters, Quentin's journey involves a lot of truth-seeking, both personally and professionally. His struggle with honesty, especially in his relationships and with his daughter, aligns with Candor's emphasis on truthfulness.
Sara Lance (White Canary):
Faction: Dauntless
Reasoning: Sara's life as an assassin and later as a hero shows her fearlessness, combat skills, and the ability to adapt to incredibly dangerous situations, making her a prime example of Dauntless.

Everytime I listen to Sacrifice by Blake Neely (the instrumentals used in Tommyâs death scene.) I feel 10x radiant damage because are you kidding me? The way it goes from a heroic moment of Tommy saving Laurel and Felicity stopping the detonation to growing horror because there was a second weapon and the building literally collapse on top of Tommy. Then Laurelâs desperation to get inside and save him and Quentin holding her back because thatâs a highly unstable building. then Oliver running in to rescue him, knowing heâs probably going to die but still going in because he has to try. he has to try. To Tommyâs speech about how heâs sorry and he is his father and Oliverâs vehement no. To Tommy dying and Oliver, begging him to open his eyes and having to leave him there because laurel was coming in after him.

My Life. My Choice: Arrow 2x03 Review (Broken Dolls)
For the CW, âBroken Dollsâ is actually really creepy. Itâs this episode and Buffy the Vampire Slayerâs âThe Gentlemanâ that give me an absolute wiggins.
Creepiness equals solid bad guy which equals FELICITY IN DANGER and PROTECTIVE OLIVER. This happens to be my sexual identity. Excellent. We also get a very overdue confession from Laurel Lance regarding Tommyâs death.
Source: Paige
Letâs dig inâŠ
Oliver and the Lance Family
Weâre kicking off the episode with Oliver surrounded by cops in Laurelâs office. Itâs not one of his handy trick arrows that save him however, but the Lady in Black and her sonic thing. A whole bunch of windows explode and everyone collapses except Oliver and the Lady in Black. I donât think the sonic thing is based in real physics.
With the sonic thing as a clue, Felicity discovers the Lady in Black put five would-be rapists in the hospital and seems to be strictly targeting misogynist criminals. What is not to love about this woman? Sheâs still not talking to Oliver yet, so he must rely on Roy to find her. He chases Sin to the clock tower where he is subsequently knocked unconscious.
When he wakes, the Lady in Black is standing over him asking, âAre you one of them?â Roy is just as confused as the rest of us. When he gets a call from Thea, the Lady in Black tells Sin to release Roy and she vanishes. Well, that answered absolutely nothing.
When Oliver returns home safely to the bunker, Diggle asks the question everyone is asking, âWhat were you doing at Laurelâs office in the first place, Oliver?â God bless our logical King. Where would we be without you? Oliver wanted to convince Laurel he was doing things a different way, but acknowledges he was wrong to think he could simply convince her. From now on the Arrow will be steering clear of the Assistant District Attorney. FINALLY.
Thatâs not to say some of the Lance family can be convinced the Arrow has changed his ways. Detective Lance reaches out to Felicity to contact the Arrow because a serial killer he once arrested is back on the streets. His name is Barton Mathis aka âThe Dollmaker.â He suffocates his victims with a flexible polymer he pours down their throats and then dresses them up like dolls (hello to the creepy). He escaped from prison during the earthquake and is killing again.
Itâs personal to Lance because Mathis killed eight girls before he caught him. The police department is stretched too thin to stop Mathis before he kills more woman, so Lance is also trying another way and teaming up with the Arrow. YASSS!!
Lance swings by Laurelâs office to check on her and get the name of Mathisâ defense counsel. Laurel is not thrilled her father is digging into this case on his own time because of the way it consumed him the last time.
Laurel: Whatever guilt youâre feeling, youâre just using it to justify a vendetta.
Lance: Well maybe Iâm not the only one.
SHOTS FIRED!!!!
Lance stops by the Dollmakerâs defense attorney, but brings the Arrow as backup. Oliver is no longer killing, but that doesnât mean heâs above torturing.
Lance: I thought you were done killing people!
The Arrow: Heâll live.
Lance: Heâs going to report me to my lieutenant.
Source: Paige
Honestly, this is one of the Arrowâs best lines ever. I am cackling. The defense attorney coughs up a possible location â the Bisque Museum. The building reminds him of Germany which is where porcelain dolls was invented. Thanks for nothing, Germany.
Lance and the Arrow track the Dollmaker to the Bisque Museum, but instead of finding Mathis they find a doll, with the article of the Dollmakerâs arrest attached to it, and a phone. Mathis calls to taunt Lance as he kills another woman.
While on a stakeout with Lance, Oliver uses the hood to address his issues with Lanceâs daughters once again. He makes a somewhat snide remark about Laurel no longer believing in him. Honestly, I wish Oliver wasnât so hung up on this thing with Laurel, but apparently he needs someone to explain it to him like a four year old.
Lance: She suffered a loss. Griefâs got a way of shifting a personâs belief. But then you know all about that. Youâve lost people too right?
The Arrow: Why would you say that?
Lance: Why else would you be doing this? My youngest, she died.
The Arrow: Iâm sorry.
Lance: Less than a month after it happened, I ended up catching the Dollmaker case. Threw myself into it. I think on some level, with each girl, I was trying to save Sara. And just like with Sara, I couldnât.
Not that Iâm in favor of Oliver using his secret identity to worm his way back into the Lance family, but this was the first time he could really apologize to Quentin and Quentin receive it. He doesnât blame the Arrow for Saraâs death. He blames Oliver. Heâs just too angry with Oliver to hear anything he has to say â even if itâs just expressing remorse. But Lance can accept it from the man in the hood.
I find it actually shocking at this point that Oliver doesnât understand why Laurel is lashing out at the Arrow. Oliverâs entire mission is fueled by the grief of his fatherâs death â and every subsequent loss he suffered those five years. He found countless criminals to target his rage and sorrow at. Laurel is just targeting one criminal. Oliver really needs this explained to him? Buy a mirror buddy. Yeesh. Self reflection is not his strong suit in Season 2 apparently.
Lance is arrested for obstruction after attempting to arrest the Dollmaker on his own (with Team Arrowâs help), but having an ADA for a daughter comes in handy and Laurel gets the charges dropped. This leads to a very interesting argument about the Arrow. Do I love that Lance officially renamed him the Arrow? Yes, I do. He came up with the Hood, so it seems only right.
Lance: A guy with a bow and arrow canât save a guy whoâs had a building fall on top of him. Whatâs going on with you is not about the Arrow.
Finally, someone said it to her face. Lance cannot understand why Laurel feels guilty about Tommyâs death (*COUGH*WE CAN*COUGH*), but targeting the Arrow is not going to bring Tommy back. Lance is genuinely worried about Laurel, but she blows her father off like sheâs does to anyone trying to help her lately.
The Dollmaker ups the ante and kidnaps Lance AND LAUREL by the end of the episode. Now, I am not a huge fan of Laurel at the moment. I have my issues with her, but seeing her tied up with a tube shoved down her throat, as her father begs for her life, was sufficiently scary.
Lance: Laurel, sweetheart, close your eyes. Iâm here. Iâm here, honey.
UGH. A parent telling their child to close their eyes during traumatic events traumatizes me!! Anytime the Arrow would like to show up would be swell.

Source: @dinahlaurellancesource
The Arrow saves Laurel of course, but heâs not the only masked vigilante the Dollmaker must contend with â the Lady in Black has shown up too. Well, this fits her MO since the guy is a freaking SERIAL KILLER OF WOMEN. In fact, now that I mention it, where the hell have YOU been Lady in Black?
Oliver is prepared to bring the Dollmaker back to prison after he immobilizes him with a couple of arrows, but the Lady in Black is not having it and puts a baton through the Dollmakerâs chest. You know, Iâm not worked up about this kill. It's fine with her resolution skills.
Laurel cannot understand why the Arrow saved her, particularly since sheâs been hunting him like prey.
Laurel: He came⊠he came to save me.
But this time, Laurel is not talking about the Arrow. Sheâs talking about Tommy.
Laurel: Oliver, he told to me to stay out of the Glades and he told me to get out of CNRI and I didnât. Tommy was only there because I was too stubborn. Too stubborn to get out when I had the chance. You were right. I was blaming the Arrow because⊠Oh, my God. Itâs all my fault, Dad. Itâs all my fault that Tommy died.
Laurel collapses into her fatherâs arms and he comforts her as Oliver secretly listens to her heart wrenching confession, hidden away in the dark alley.
Itâs a callback to the scene in the pilot when Oliver watched Laurel and Tommy from a distance. It foreshadowed that Oliver and Laurelâs superhero journeys would be linked and the tether was Tommy. It was simply not in the way either of them imagined.
We are not at the end of Laurel Lanceâs Season 2 story, but the very beginning. While her confession is necessary, it will not solve all her problems. Acknowledging guilt and grief is one thing. Being ready to deal with it is another.
Did you notice that Quentin didnât immediately tell Laurel she was wrong? I am not so inhuman that I hold Laurel completely responsible for Tommyâs death. Malcolm Merlyn killed his son. Not Laurel.
But she bears some culpability. If she had listened to Oliver or Quentin â Tommy may have lived. Itâs possible he could have died another way, but what we know for certain is he never wouldâve been at CNRI. He was there because of Laurel and only Laurel. That is the guilt she must carry for the rest of her life. Laurel doesnât hate the Arrow. She hates herself.

That is a feeling Oliver Queen knows all too well. He goes to Laurelâs apartment to check on her and Quentin. When Lance thanks the Arrow for saving his daughter (again) Oliverâs response is surprisingly detached.
The Arrow: She needed help.
Just like Quentin. Just like all the other citizens of Starling City the Arrow has sworn to protect. I am not delusional to pretend that Oliver Queen doesnât care more for Laurel Lance than a stranger on the street, but there is a note of dispassion. Oliver is not there because heâs trying to change Laurelâs mind about him or chase after her forgiveness or use the hood to weasel his way back into her personal life. Heâs there because she was a person who needed help. That is all. And that says a lot. Itâs quite a shift from the Oliver Queen of Season 1.

Source: @dinahlaurellancesource
You cannot help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I think this pull back is necessary. Oliver cannot always save Laurel - she has to learn to save herself. This her life. These are her choices. The road Laurel is headed toward is one that neither Oliver nor the Arrow can follow her down.
Olicity
After the Dollmakerâs latest victim is discovered, Team Arrow wants a peek at the forensics, but the police have sent everything to a private lab. Felicity canât hack it because their system is offline. Seems she did too good of a job last season. FIELD TRIP TIME!
Lance and the Arrow break into the lab, so Felicity can download the forensic records. There is a list of chemical ingredients of all the make-up found on the victims. Lance recognizes one of the chemicals - ethyl paraben sodium laureth sulfate, which is found in skim cream. Lance remembers one of the victims was wearing some kind of Mermaid skin cream, which had the same type of formula. Felicity quickly tracks it down, which leaves Lance gobsmacked by her abilities and Oliver smiles with "That's my girl" pride.
The Dollmaker picks his victims by their skin and the skin cream is how he finds them. All the victims use Mermaiden Skin Cream, which is very expensive and only carried at limited boutiques. Felicity volunteers to buy the skin cream at the four boutiques available in Starling City. Both Oliver and Diggle balk at that prospect of Felicity in that much danger.

The boys canât help but be a little awed by her bravery. Slade makes a similar comment about Shado when Oliver worries about leaving her behind in the plane so she can examine the Japanese soldier bones.
Slade: Her life. Her choice.
Oliver is romantically involved with Shado at this point, so itâs extremely telling the writers are drawing a direct parallel from Shado to Felicity. Itâs also clear at this point that Team OTA is paralleling Team Flashback. This was such a cool shot:
Lance: Just for the record, Iâm not a huge fan of dangling helpless girls in front of psychopaths like meat.
Felicity volunteers because sheâs an absolute bad ass, but she also knows without a shadow of doubt that Oliver (and Diggle) will never let anything happen to her.
Source: smoakandswan
Once again, Felicityâs belief is proven right when the Dollmaker snatches her. Even though Diggle, Lance and Oliver are close there is still enough time for the Dollmaker to drag Felicity into a back alley. CREEPED OUT ALERT!!! Every woman has this exact fear every time they leave their house. #pickthebear
Oliver lands an arrow in this sick son of a bitch (YASSS MY KING!!!) and the Dollmaker releases Felicity. Unfortunately, she stumbles and hits her head as she falls to the ground. Lance chases after the Dollmaker, but Oliver does not.
He immediately runs to Felicityâs side and gently checks her head and tells her not to move. He stays with her until Diggle arrives.

SWOON. This is not the âMission is all that mattersâ man we saw last season. Some things (or someone) matter more.
Unfortunately, the Dollmaker escapes like heâs freaking Houdini. He kidnaps Laurel as ultimate retribution for Quentin arresting him. Â
Dollmaker: You know I could maim you, I could slice you up into a thousand pieces, but if your soul remains intact what have I wrought? Huh? Nothing.
The goal is to hurt Quentin by killing his daughter, which will cause the emotional pain the Dollmaker desires. However, "If your soul remains intact what have I wrought?â feels like a reference to Oliver. Not Quentin.
If Oliver loses himself to the darkness of the hood, if he allows all the pain and suffering to destroy his soul, then it doesnât matter how many bad guys he arrests or how many times he saves the city. The villains will win.
Itâs an argument Oliver has been having with Slade the last few episodes. Slade disapproves of Oliverâs relationship with Shado primarily because heâs madly in love with her. That said, Slade made no moves towards any type of romantic relationship with Shado, which means he could truly believe what heâs telling Oliver â attachments get you killed.
Oliver: You think caring about people is what gets you killed. I think itâs what keeps people alive.
Slade: I was wrong about you. Youâre definitely an idiot.
The question then becomes how do we go from Oliver believing in love in the flashbacks to emotionally closed off in present day? I say closed off purposely â not shut down. Oliver still feels very deeply, but he keeps those emotions in check, hidden under a hood and layer of steel forged during those five years away. Something happens in the past that changes Oliver mind about caring for others.
Whatâs so wild about Oliverâs statement to Slade is that heâs right and Island Ollie is seldom right about anything. It is crucial for Oliver to maintain his connections to Diggle, Felicity and his family. However, present day Oliver is not entirely wrong. Love can save his soul, but it can also destroy it. If a villain discovers who Oliver loves then it makes that person a target. How many people can Oliver lose and his soul remains intact? Maybe itâs not a question of how many, but WHO. Regardless, itâs a risk Oliver has been reticent to take. For now.
The flip is the people Oliver cares about get a vote. They get to decide for themselves how much risk they can accept. And because they believe in Oliver so much they are willing to risk their lives. At the end of the day, it's their choice. Oliver gave Felicity the respect she deserved in making this decision - this respect should apply to all aspects of her life.

Stray Thoughts
âHeâll be out for 36 min.â That is an oddly specific time for a tranquilizer dart.
Shado was pre-med. I feel like Slade & Oliver should have known this sooner than a year later. What else do they have to talk about?
Prosecutor is seeking the death penalty against Moira. Oliver keeps saying heâll never let that happen, so Iâm thinking he has a Mom jail break plan.
Sometimes you need a good old fashioned gratiutious shirtless scene.
Source: Paige
What secret is Moira willing to die to keep? It is something she believes will cost her relationship with her children. So thatâs a big pile of yikes.
I am completely comfortable with the way Diggle & Oliver pass the time.
Sladeâs hands and face are seriously burned from freighter bombing. Oliver is imprisoned on the boat. Who knows where Shado is. Flashbacks are straight up hell again!
LADY IN BLACK IS IN KAHOOTS WITH RAâS AL GHUL!!! Batman Jen squeals with delight.
