Queer characters and queer show are different concepts. You can have queer characters for pink money, for example, or use their queerness only for the laughs, to make a character "eccentric" or even to make a point.
I grew up watching tv shows like Queer as Folk and The L Word and believe me when I say: WWDITS it's not a queer show, is not centered on the queer experience, don't care for queer policy, the most vaguely activist thing was a pride parade made for a straight character get more votes.
WWDITS is fun and I love it, but when I read this kind of argument against queerbating allegations I wonder why the bar is so low now?

me, watching in horror, as another obviously queer character gets into a heterosexual relationship because the writers are scared of making them gay: No. No, no, don't kiss hi- awh. No! No. No!

"They're queerbating!" and it's just two same sex characters sharing a deep spiritual connection and emotional and physical intimacy, becoming an integral part of each other's life.
Girl, platonic love exists.
Stop devaluing it.
P.S. I'm not talking about shipping - your headcanons are yours, go off, no one is stopping you. Just don't accuse creators of doing something they didn't do.

I just started My Journey to You because of a gifset of two women fighting very gay-ly. In the show there is banter between the Male Lead and his Bodyguard where ML says 'Are you going to be my bride?'. Now, they might not have intentionally queerbaited (if we can even call it that) but even if they had it would not be the same way that USdramas queerbait. In a Cdrama I know I'm not getting the gay no matter how many hints they leave. Same with Kdramas. So they can go as hard as they want but I know, going in, it's never going to be there. On the other hand USdramas are malicious with this. With USdramas I have hope. And every time they don't get together it feels like a slap in the face. Especially since the straight romance they write isn't good anyway. I started Till the End of the Moon for the same reason - A gifset of girls. But the straight romance both these girls get, the depth of character in both masculine and feminine traits that both these women get makes me satisfied with the show. On the other hand, Women are treated so horribly on USdramas - flattened and boring that the most important and interesting thing about them becomes their potential queerness. Same with Little Women. It's queercoded but I won't be disappointed if InJoo and Do-il got together because all the female characters are so well crafted and well explored that it feel like a feast.
I've admired USdramas for a long time. They were the better alternative to Indian Dramas. But they don't got shit on Cdramas and Kdramas. Now of course it doesn't apply to every show out there. But I'm picky no matter what country it is. And so far Cdramas and Kdramas have better writing overall.

also just want to add: because queer-baiting is a marketing scheme used in media about fictional characters, real human people cannot queer-bait! not even famous ones!! this includes:
actors who play queer characters despite being cis/straight
celebrities who got really popular for displaying “””queer traits”””
artists that include queer themes in their work but do not officially come out
gnc celebrities
literally any real actual person who does not self-identify (or does not want to come out!!) as queer
i’d be really curious to know what percent of queerbaiting is
a) an intentional marketing scheme to stir interest in the project and attract certain fanbases (lgbtq people and young women) vs.
b) members of the creative team genuinely wanting to write queer characters but the corporate side of things force them to tone it down but they still leave little hints vs.
c) they legitimately did not know how gay something would come across

Apparently there's drama for the Swifties rn, but this applies accross the board- You realize a human person having friendships isn't queerbating you, and taking it personally when they don't have your sexuality is, in fact, a you problem?

queerbaiting leads to yearning
yearning leads to fanfiction
fanfiction leads to ... suffering
queerbaiting is good because the yearning is always better than the having

Please reblog for a larger sample size.
I realized over the last few weeks that we may all have different ways of defining “8b Buddie Canon” and I want to see which option is the one we most agree on, or if there are some we haven’t all thought of.
Also, just because they may not “go canon” for some doesn’t mean that many others will disagree and will celebrate that it did.
Tagging a few friends to spread:

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Truly, i needed such affirmations. My mental stability has been saved. Amen 🙏
GUYS. GUYS. It's gonna be okay. Just think of it this way because I saw @tastywormfood talking about this and it lowkey comforted me just a tiny bit.
Season 4 is a prequel, okay? It's the badly written season that they tried to fit in between s2 and 3 but did a terrible job. S3 is the actual finale where we get the yummy Snufmin angst and fluff and an amazing ending. So here's a lil comfort checklist that'll for sure cheer us all up after the long disastrous few days we've suffered through.
1. Take a nice long breath of Moominvalley air and say some positive affirmations.
-"S4 is a prequel"
-"Snufmin is the original meant-to-be"
-"I will survive this. Probably"
-"S3 will save me"
-"So will fanfiction"
2. Rewatch S3 and bask in the warmth that is Snufmin fluff and pining. Specifically, watch episode 8. Near the end. 18:36. Don't judge me.
3. Go to AO3 and pray to the Hobgoblin that it isn't shut down for once. If the Hobgoblin answers your prayers, go read every Snufmin fic you can get your paws on. I promise you'll feel better ;)
4. Let's all go pay @faygosta on YouTube a visit and blow up his notifications on his old Snufmin 3d video. Gotta get this guy to save our lives and help us create the better season that was always meant to be, am I right? Plus, his video alone could do a great deal of cheering up. Trust me.
5. Art is a great healing method and Pinterest is a great place to start your Snufmin art therapy sessions. God knows how much we need them after this.
6. Keep up hope that there's actually gonna be a finale episode in the coming months that I've been hearing snippets about. Maybe we'll get a little more mercy and kindness from the writers then after they've had a chance to simmer in the heat of the crockpot mess of a fandom they've created.
Good lord I have never been so disappointed in my life. We got queerbaited like no fandom has ever been before(unless the newly shortened Good Omens season has anything to say about it). But we are a strong fandom, a united fandom, one that cares about justice and freedom for their gay lil bois. Can I get an AMEN?! We'll get through this somehow!
