Transgender Day of Remembrance
Tumblr media
Ugh. I don't really know what to say this year. It's been a year of transgender people being specifically targeted in ways that are increasingly vicious and unhinged. So many hate bills being introduced in the US and Canada and other parts of the world in an attempt to roll back, limit and prevent transgender rights, protections and healthcare. It's disgusting.
No group is more vulnerable, no group is more targeted.
As I've said in the past, there is a LOT we can do as allies. A LOT. Please read this post, because I go into a lot of detail there about concrete things we can do in our daily lives to make the lives of transgender people a bit better.
[CW/TW discussion of suicide and resources]
Transgender Day of Remembrance is meant to memorialize those transgender people who lost their lives due to hate crimes and violence targeted at them because of their identities. When I'm reflecting on this day I personally always prefer to expand that definition to also include those who lost their lives to suicide, because those deaths are quite often a result of all the same causes, and they're unfortunately much more frequent.
If you or anyone you know is struggling, please reach out for support, or reach out to others to offer your support. Here's an international list of crisis lines for anyone who needs help.
Never underestimate your ability to save lives through your actions and kindness!

I am so excited to finally share this with you! I have been working on the Queer Magic 2025 calendar since July!
This calendar celebrates queer community, love and all different identities! I really wanted to try and capture different parts of queer life and make something that really shows how we are queer all year! I am so pleased with how it has turned out and I think it is some of my best work yet!
The calendars will be up on my sh0p ready for you on Sunday 13th! Make sure to save the reminder if you want to get your hands on one!
I am so proud of this product and I really hope you will all love it as much as I do!

100 DAYS TILL TRANS FUTURES DAY
Fuck it, I’m suggesting a new day for the queer calendar: trans futures day. TDOV is a relic from another time and TDOR is vitally important but deeply emotionally distressing. Trans people deserve a day to celebrate our successes, our community, our joy, our resilience, our potential. As a solarpunk, I’m passionate about imagining better futures for all of us and a good future includes happy, thriving trans people who are beloved and valued members of their community and have self-determination over their gender expression and personal lives.
TFD could be all about inspiring trans youth about the adults they can become, celebrating growing older while trans, trans people working in progressive politics, the environmental sector, community organising, utopian storytelling and the cutting edge of new advances in science and technology, you name it.
As a date I propose 26th July - if I’ve mathsed right (always a gamble lol) that’s the day exactly halfway between TDOV and TDOR.
Who do I talk to about making it real? 😅

'Happy' International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
Tumblr media
Apologies, but this is going to be angry and political.
The fight is far from over, my friends! Things continue to suck badly in most parts of the world, even here in Canada! We're seeing more and more bigots coming out of the woodwork, and attempts to roll back and even eliminate LGBTQ rights.
There are major elections coming up in some countries. PLEASE GET OUT THE VOTE. If your election is a ways off, don't rest! Start organizing now, because make no mistake about it - the bigots are already working hard!
Don't think you're clever by abstaining or spoiling your ballot!! As people have been saying, "A vote isn't a love letter, it's a chess move." If you look at voting as a means of 'getting the person you want into power' you're fucked. There will almost never be a viable candidate who you actually like.
Instead we need to think of our votes as a means of PREVENTING the worst candidates from getting into power. In Canada, that's that utter dirtbag Pollievre. In the US, it's obviously Trump!! I don't care how much you hate Trudeau, I don't care how much you hate Biden! Yeah, I know they've done shitty things! I want to punch them both in the face!
However, they're both Mary Poppins when compared with their opponents!!!!!! Use your head! We have to make sure those lunatics don't get into power!
Think Pollievre won't roll back LGBTQ rights? Think he won't go after abortion? Think again!! Think Trump won't do the same? Get out from that rock you're living under!
Look at the right wing nutbars they're heavily supported by and understand that they're supporting these candidates for a reason!!
Decisions have consequences!!! There's no greater evil than apathy! Take responsibility for your values and make shit happen, people!
Sorry for those not in North America, but I've barely got the spoons to follow the political events in my own region. If anyone wants to add details about how to best support queer rights in their region, please do.

I'm thinking about the story of Jesus and Peter walking on the water, which we read this past Sunday (Matthew 14). Growing up I learned it as a cautionary tale. I don't know if I was actually taught this or if it's just how I read it but. Don't be like Peter; don't start wavering once you've made your declaration of faith, or else you will begin to sink. Looking at this story now, it has so much more hope. First of all, he is the only one to get out of the boat. The others can't even move against their fear, and eventually Peter will be rewarded for this boldness. And once he is out on the water, amidst impossible circumstances, he begins to doubt. But Christ pulls him up again. Before he chides Peter, he pulls him to the surface. Then I imagine him chuckling and saying, "Oh Peter. You have no reason to fear, for I am always here." This story does not say "strangle your doubts unless you want to drown." It says that when we find ourselves in situations that we can't believe and naturally begin to doubt, Christ will be there to catch us. It is not your job, or indeed within your ability, to control your faith. Instead, as it changes, know that Christ is there with you, to scoop you back up. Lean not on your own understanding, do not make the sturdiness of your faith an idol. Instead, remember how much a small, mustard sized faith can do, and keep walking.
