Stop building communities online and focus on your local community. Especially black queer folk in red states. Yall must find each other cause nonblack queer folk aint gon always be on our side and we know this. Hunker down and hold tight, but most of all, stay safe and keep your ancestors in your heart and fist.

sapphic love letters
Addie Brown to Rebecca Primus (1860s)

"O my Dear Friend how I did miss you last night I did not have any one to hug me and to kiss. Rebecca don't you think I am very foolish. I dont want anyone to kiss me now . . . no kisses is like yours."
“I never shall love any person as I do you.”
“Wishing that I was in your loving arms and you would be imprinting sweat [sic] kisses.”
Addie Brown and Rebecca Primus were two free Black women who met in Hartford, Connecticut. Brow worked as a domestic servant to support herself as an orphan, while Primus taught recently freed Black people and built a school in Maryland. The two exchanged over 150 letters (though only Brown's were salvaged). Their love and adoration for one another gives us an amazing insight on the history of women who loved women.

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Summary: 👩🏿👩❤️👩👩🏿🔬
Read: April 2021
Grace Porter works harder than most people. She has to, as a queer, black woman in the astronomy field. Her whole life, she’s been planning for her dream career. She has been in school nearly her entire life, and now, with her PhD. in hand, finding a job should be easy, right? When she wakes up in Vegas to find that she’s married to a random girl and doesn’t get the job her professor said she was a shoo-in for, Grace realizes she needs a break. She leaves her entire plan behind to truly get to know the woman she married - and herself. This book is about self-love, mental health, and finding your place in the world. It’s about being okay with not being perfect, finding your family, and choosing who you want to be.
I laughed. I cried. I'm still crying. This book was so well written and so relatable. This book will rip your heart out and sew it back together. 💖

Tomorrow might be the last day I get to go to the gym and go grocery shopping. I now have a fear of getting shot in the head while walking on the treadmill because the color of my skin is too threatening and my childless uterus is too much of a threat to the average man.
Or maybe it's because they don't want me to steal their jobs, instead, find a "black job" and stick to it. Maybe I'll be a DJ, or a drug dealer, a black job, right? Or maybe I'll be rotting in a casket, shot by a white man with "mental health issues". Rotting in a casket because I might be one out of millions of black women who die during pregnancy because I was being "dramatic" about the pain. Or maybe my husband will set me on fire and end my pain and suffering.
Maybe my black job will be staying inside for the rest of my life because no matter the results of this election, they will retaliate.

Imagine Queer Worlds, my ZineQuest project for more inclusive worldbuilding, has now hit its second stretch goal! This allows us to bring on a new writer (who already made our Kickstarter looks incredible)! 🏳️🌈 Derekah Kingery (she/her) 📝 Queer, Black, all-out nerd. Professionally, she does marketing for creatives and helps get projects launch-ready for crowdfunding. Outside of work, she's a volunteer GM for youth in her community and is currently world-building with her equally nerdy wife for a future setting and campaign in which they can play and be chaotic. She loves RPing as a variety of player characters but keeps accidentally making lil cinnamon rolls. Sometimes art imitates life!
Check out how spiffy she made the KS page (and maybe join as a backer if you haven't!)
