We had a busy 2017 with @scumbagthemovie that ended with a distribution deal(the film will be coming out in June). Rotterdam, Lund, Queens, Philadelphia, Hollywood, Chinese American, Hollywood, LA Punk, and a few other fests not pictured. We are now kicking off 2018 in Manhattan, New York on February 23rd for the Winter Film Awards International Film Festival. Ai Ai delas Alas Wins First International Acting Award at Queens World Film Festival

The Philippines' Top Comedienne, Ai Ai delas Alas, scored her first international acting award last March 19, 2017 at the 7th Annual Queens World Film Festival held at Astor Room at the Kaufman Astoria Studio Complex.

Ai Ai was proclaimed Best Female Actor in a Narrative Feature for the movie "Area" directed by Louie Ignacio who was also nominated for Best Director Narrative Feature. Her stunning portrayal of an aging prostitute in search of a son she lost during the eruption of Mt Pinatubo was truly deserving of the accolade.

Ignacio accepted the award on her behalf. He later intimated to us the rigid preparation Ai Ai did to prepare for the role. She literally had to immerse herself in the "Area" for several weeks and interact with real prostitutes and had a rare glimpse of how life in the brothels unfold daily.

"Ai Ai has always dreamed of having an international acting award and I am so thrilled that her dream came true tonight!" He enthused.

Louie later spoke with Ai Ai via Messenger and we witnessed the duo celebrating ecstatically. For those Filipinos in the venue, we felt so proud with this victory.

The film will be competing at the Cleveland International Festival, Boston International Film Festival and Houston World Fest this year.

Louie Ignacio’s “Area” Screening at 7th Annual Queens World Film Festival

“Area”, a Narrative Feature about prostitutes, kid pimps, poverty, politics and redemption in a long forgotten place in the Philippines; was screened at the 7th Annual Queens World Film Festival at the Zukor Theater at Kaufman Astoria Studios last March 17, 2017.

The film’s director, Louie Ignacio, arrived just in time for the screening of his film after a twenty four hour flight from the Philippines. Despite being jet lagged, he was in high spirits during his film’s screening.

The film shot in Pampanga during the height of the Lenten Activities drew raves from fellow directors participating in the festival. Louie is nominated for the Best Director Narrative Feature. The Philippines’ top comedienne, Ai Ai De Las Alas is also nominated for Best Female Actor Narrative Feature. Her brilliant performance in this film would surely get a nod from the critics. For the Fil-Ams in the audience, Ai Ai was indeed a revelation in the film. Fellow actor Allen Dizon was also brilliant in his portrayal of a brothel manager in the film. Even the other actors in the film, locals of the “Area”, were exceptional.

During the post screening discussion, Ignacio narrated that the film was finished in seven days using a single camera which wowed the audience comprised of several participating film makers.

This year, there are one hundred thirty five films from twenty five participating nations. Awarding of the winning nominees will be on March 19, 2017 at the Kaufman Studios.
