Let’s chat about this for a moment. Many are blaming this on Netflix splitting the season like that did, meaning that only half of the season falls within the Emmy selection time frame. But that’s only part of a bigger issue. While Netflix did somewhat prevent anyone from the show being nominated for Emmys because of the split, there is also a huge bias against romance properties.
What I mean is no one was going to get nominated for writing, acting or directing anyway. Costumes and makeup might have been, but not the three categories mention. Hollywood and the guilds don’t think romance is a viable genre and they tend to look their noses down on it. Same with the superhero projects. I remember the absolute shock when Elizabeth Olsen received a nom for her performance in WandaVision. A much deserved nom because her performance was so layered and intense.
But with romance, it’s always been the genre that people ridicule and belittle - usually while consuming it like rabid dogs - it’s not “art” and therefore not “worthy”
Which is a damn shame. Bridgerton has become a phenomena, especially this season, and instead of focusing all the hardwork the day and crew put in providing a nuisanced, layered and lush show for people, they ignore it as fluff.
There is a bias against Netflix when it comes to awards. The studio system and the powers that be don’t appreciate Netflix or Amazon Prime, despite both being a huge force in filmmaking. I remember when a Netflix documentary was nominated, and won, an Oscar. People were livid. That opened the door for more respectful viewing but the noms are still slow to come.
I think several folks should be nominated for Emmys from Bridgerton, for wigs and costumes alone, but sadly it’s not to be this season. Maybe in the future the Emmy guild will yank that big old stick out of their collective asses about romance.
One can hope.

It goes without saying but whoever gets to be Golda’s wig stylist must career-wise get to have the absolute time of their lives.

Do you know of any good resources for Black hair in different time periods? Or generally have any advice for Black hair in period pieces?
I mean, my advice would be to utilize the actual Black hairstyles and/or tools of the time, rather than to just shove a bad wig on them to make them look like they have white people's hair. Specifically if you mean "period piece" as in "European period piece", unless you're going Queen Charlotte with it (which, to date imo, has the best incorporation of Black hair into that time period and culture's wealthy fashion on mainstream TV).
The rest of your question is kind of broad. What period are we talking about? Where? What culture? The styles and maintenance we would have are dependent upon that. I would suggest specifying what you're looking for, and then looking into the Black experience from there.
Here's at least a general timeline for Black American hair that I found, at least.

Random thoughts during Bridgerton season 3 rewatch, episode 4
Portia can’t just normally chaperone her daughter with a suitor?
Debling giving Penelope a fern is like when my coworkers have tried giving me plants. I work in a windowless office! I have ADHD! Don’t give me a plant!
Colin gets to miss the juicy gossip of John Stirling’s appearance
Violet wants Penelope to be a Bridgerton so bad
It’s kind of adorable that Benedict brought Lady Arnold flowers.
Lady Danbury really just wants to punch her brother. Also, dude, you don’t have friends in the country?
I live for this Pomeranian’s “tricks”
Brimsley is everything to me. He and Charlotte are true BFFs
Hyacinth’s mistake is pure cringe
To quote my mother “Isn’t he supposed to be Scottish?”
Those are some nice fireplace screens
Lord Samadani just has to be the center of attention
Can’t Will own the club, just not run it himself?
I can’t tell who is actually speaking so the disembodied voice at the library is like the entrance to a Disney attraction
Hey, look Queen Anne portrait
Lady Featherington and Lord Debling are in burgundy. Pen and Colin are in blue
Lord Debling couldn’t tell she was looking at Colin?
Francesca has such a crush on John. It’s adorable
The mausoleum comment Cressida makes about her home makes me think Lord Cowper will die soon
It’s hard to take Lord Cowper seriously when the last thing I saw his actor in was playing the very mincing Shakespearian drag performer Mr. Condell in Upstart Crow
Colin really hates these guys and so do I.
Lord Debling and Lady Featherington are both in dark blue for the proposal scene, continuing the idea that he’s Portia’s choice
Violet tells him to stop masking his emotions and then Colin immediately does it
That’s Hampton Court. Where’s the wine fountain? Is the wine fountain moveable?
That swan wig is going to win the hair team another Emmy
Have a shirtless ballet dancer in nude pants is a bold move, Charlotte
Debling is such a bad fit for the Featherington brother-in-laws’ himbo vibe. You need the wife guy energy my dude
Anderson really has not seen his sister in so long if he doesn’t know she the Queen of Meddling
When did Alice meet Lady Danbury?
Cressida’s fucking sleeve puffs
Lady Danbury really left before all the juicy stuff
Still haven’t seen a gif set of “she is not drinking the lemonade”😭
Colin would punch Fife and it would be worth it
Does Penelope have a full life, Debling? She has one friend and reads
How long has Eloise been ranting about feminism to Cressida? We saw her start before Colin left.
I’m surprised Debling didn’t shoulder check Colin the way he stomped past him
He is pissed
The “what have you done” conversation is heartbreaking
How long was Colin running for? They’re on like the back side of the gardens when he enters, I think
I’d like to point out that it’s the Featherington’s carriage
I love that Colin has been incorporated Featherington gold in his wardrobe
I love those gold shoes
Who hasn’t had to pretend to fingerbang a friend for a role, am I right? Just me and Newts? Ok. (In college I was in a play called In the Next Room or the vibrator play)
The laughing is so adorable
Colin, that’s not really a proposal.

With all respect, does the hope for a latina Sophie mean hopes for her to have travelled from central/South America like Kate came from India?
I just wonder if the hopes for a latina Sophie are looking at the show with too much of an American view when the leads thus far have all been exclusively British/Irish. Finding a British actress with latin roots could be exceptionally hard given they are such a tiny demographic in the UK, unless the show hires outside the UK and gives her a migration backstory - a la Kate from India or Lady Danbury from Africa.
wanting a Latina Sophie literally just means 'portrayed by actress of Hispanic ethnicity'. This is the show that as you rightfully pointed out had an INDIAN family travelling trough Britain as tho there was no British occupation in said country. We all know they can do whatever they want and just gloss over the explanation like they did with the disappearance of the Duke of Hastings.
Sophie could come from Mexico and Bridgerton would be like ' yeah she's an immigrant, shit happened in her motherland' and proceeded to brush it over with the Queen Charlotte deux ex machina wig of ' we changed society with love'. Canonically Sophie's name in the book is Sophia Maria, it's hinted that her mother was a Singer. For all we Singer could have been Guatemalan, with a little bit of the kind of editing that gave us Papa Sharma. Was Guatemala even a country in 1800?, who cares, if the show doesn't go out of it's way to point it out, I certainly wont.
But all jokes aside, Sophie is most likely going to be black, it's Shondaland, who are we kidding. Lets play a little game of probability shall we? take a look at the actors in Scandal, Grey's Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder ( just off the top of my head) And, without counting anyone Caucasian, compare the amount of Black actors hired for speaking roles, with the amount of indian, asian, and Hispanic actors overlapping for speaking roles in the same season. Then come back and tell me what odds I'm looking at for a Latina Sophie, do it, I'll wait.
Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with whatever ethnicity Sophie ends up being, but personally when I say I support a Latina Sophie its because Latinos are possibly the only community that so far has had no speaking roles in Bridgerton. In 3 seasons of diversity and poc blind casting, that's a problem that should be addressed. They made up a reason why interracial marriage was acceptable in the show, make up a reason for a Latino to have the Gunningworth title, it's not that hard.
But hey that's just my opinion.
