Kate Sharma's Society Hairstyles: Part 1

I'm a little obsessed with Kate's hairstyles whenever she's in society mode. Be it Lady Danbury's drawing room, a promenade through the park, or at a ball. When she first meets Lady Danbury in Capital R Rake, her hair is already drastically different from how it looked when we first saw her on horseback earlier in the episode.

It's pretty tightly pulled back and the braided bun is placed fairly high up on the back of her head.

And when we see her at the first two balls and in Lady Danbury's drawing room again with the suitors, her hair continues to be tightly pulled back and the hair placed higher on the back of her head.

Now, Simone Ashley is a literal goddess/Disney Princess who has come to grace us with her presence here on Earth and she would look good in a potato sack. But her hairstyles in the first few episodes aren't as flattering on her as the ones we see her sporting in later episodes. I can only assume this is because if the Queen saw her in those other hairstyles, she'd go "...Edwina who?"

I think the more slicked back Kate's hair is, the more she is putting on her tough, guardian, "I must sacrifice my happiness and comfort for my family's no matter what" facade.

We see her with a braid in the first episode one more time when she speaks with Lady Danbury about the Sheffields.

Braid 1- Loose with hair falling around her face

Braid 2- Tighter braid with the hair around the face more pulled back.

And the hair trend continues into Episodes 2 and 3.

Except for scenes where she's in her bedroom and the first time she meets Anthony, we only see Kate's hair looser at two points in these first three episodes...and both of those times are when Anthony is present.

First, when she and Anthony fall in the mud during pall mall. This scene has also been cited by the actors and producers of the show as the first time Anthony and Kate let their guard down around each other and break through some of the psychological and emotional walls they've built up around themselves.

The second is immediately after her horseback ride at Aubrey Hall. Even though her hair is still pulled back, it's looser, the hair sits a little lower on the back of her head, and there are a few escaped curls. This is the morning after the failed proposal. Kate breathed a huge sigh of relief at the diner when Anthony didn't propose to Edwina. She also was in the middle of thanking Anthony for not proposing to her when he interrupted and told her to reassure Edwina that he still intended to propose.

And then of course...the bee happened 🐝

After this episode, Kate's hair is never pulled back as tightly as it once was again. The mask is beginning to slip and she's never going to get it fully back on again.

Gay Pirate AU

Here’s a few ideas from something I started to write a while ago and never got around to finishing: (and yes, most of this came to me in a dream)

- Snow White (or rather, Blanche Evermoore) is a pirate on the Queen’s Folly.

- her stepmother, Captain Evermoore, is a terrible person and also the captain of the ship.

- the first mate, John Wolffhunt (known as Wolff) is the ‘Huntsman’ of the story

- There are seven other crew members, all of them older than Snow and very short, and they’re all basically father/brother figures to her.

-  The dwarves all have different names, ones that were common at the time and also kind of short (Basil, Jack, Simon, etc) because the commonly known names are copyrighted by Disney

- one of the dwarves (Edgar?) has dreams of starting a pub.  He toys with several different names throughout the story, mostly “The (insert number here) Dwarves”

- Snow got her nickname because she’s somehow still pale, even though she is a literal pirate and is out in the sun all the time.  She gets sunburnt easily though.  Her hair is black and cropped closely to her head (done sloppily by one of the dwarves, because it’s not like pirates can just go to a hair salon.)

- One day they’re stopping somewhere (Cuba or the Barbados, maybe) and the Captain leaves the ship for a while.  When she comes back, trailing after her is a pretty girl with wild red hair and bright eyes.

- This girl doesn’t have a name, so Snow offers her several options that were common at the time (Susan, Edwina, Hortensia) before settling on one (Cecily or Beatriz, maybe.)

- Everyone presumes that Beatriz is an escaped slave girl, and that’s why she’s so desperate to leave the island with the pirates. (Her darker skin and ragged clothes do nothing to dispell these rumors.)

-  Snow and Beatriz become fast friends, but Snow is often confused at how ignorant Beatriz seems to be.  It’s almost like everything is completely alien to her, from food to clothes to speaking English.

- Snow doesn’t realize it, but she’s falling in love.

- The Captain makes several attempts to dispose of Snow, including strangling her with ribbons, giving her a cursed comb, and poisoning a crate of apples (she falls ill and is dying, but Beatriz sneaks off of the ship every time and returns triumphantly, soaking wet, to find that Snow has made a miraculous recovery)

- Eventually Snow discovers Beatriz’s secret.  She’s a mermaid, who made a deal with the Sea Witch to become human and explore the world above.

- She also finds out that Beatriz is a literal princess

- Also mermaids don’t really have the concept of names that humans do.  They have longer names that are almost like titles, that sound beautiful in the mermaid language (which can only be spoken below the sea) but do not translate well.

- Beatriz’s name is “She Who Hides Among Lobsters” because she was named after her hair color.  She has 6 older siblings- 5 sisters and 1 brother- who have similar, but more regal, names.

- (Her brother, He Who Has The Grace of Eels, was born in a female body but his parents made a deal with the Sea Witch to help him)

- At some point, the Captain gives up on being subtle and tells Wolff to just murder her outright.  He attacks Snow, but hesitates long enough for her to jump over the side of the boat and escape into the water below

- I don’t really know how it ends but Snow and Beatriz get together, that one dwarf leaves the ship to open the Seven Dwarves tavern, the Queen is killed and falls overboard (to be eaten by the Sea Witch’s pets- poor things, she gave them indigestion) and Snow becomes the new captain.  Beatriz stays by her side and chooses to remain in the human world.

i watched shubh mangal zyada saavdhan a bit ago and it was so fucking hilarious, when kusum ran away with the jewels i could not stop laughing and had to pause the movie, that woman is seriously crazy, and ahhhhh the scene where aman and kartik are dancing before goggle's wedding was so much fun, i wanted to join in bc they just seemed to be having such a great time (ignoring papa Tripathi's homophobia) and the music felt so good too ahhhh it was great, so great

hmmm since you only watch anime youve been recommended, do you have a specific genre you prefer or just about anything?? also, have you heard of jujutsu kaisen and owari no seraph?? i think owari no seraph is a bit more low key but it's great, im def recommending them both as well as doukyuusei, that one is a gorgeous movie that i have probably watched a million times

also! i watched mina le's review of s2 and apparently the way mrs featherington is dressed is to show that shes from new money and doesnt have the "grace" of ppl from "distinguished" families 😒

and so many other things but i also watched a video about simone's makeup for the show and how the makeup actually looks good on dark skin instead of just looking like makeup and i thought that was neat

the half sister line was so gut wrenching but seeing edwina burst out in anger was kinda satisfying ngl. when rewatching the final episode i kinda realized that kate did always have the anxiety of being viewed as only a half sister and felt like she had to take care of everything to even be viewed as family

i like the character of theo but was fully expecting a queer romance line for eloise & penelope like i wasnt the only one who thought they were fully hinting at it??right??
