hiya! i recently binge-watched the pierce brosnan movies and i absolutely love how joyful and innovative desmond llewelyn’s Q is. do you have any fic recs where ben whishaw’s Q is trained under or heavily influenced by the older Q? thanks so much!!

Bond and Q are drawn together by names, work, and a certain Aston Martin. In which Q is kidnapped once, Bond is poisoned twice, and Eve is a badass on at least three occasions. AKA that time I tripped and wrote 80,000 words of 00Q.

00q fic idea: Q gets kidnapped, and Bond is sent to recover him.

Bond, M, and Moneypenny are all tense, worried what the kidnappers are going to do to their quartermaster, trusting that he wouldn’t break, but fearing how badly he’ll be hurt. Bond is obviously chosen to retrieve him, and he’s ready to kill every person that gets in his way (and anyone who had anything to do with hurting Q)

What he didn’t expect at the scene was bodies upon bodies in the facility, like someone had already gunned through before him. Tense and suspicious, Bond follows the sound of gunshots on the other side of the building. Thinking the possibility of a gang war or infighting.

What he found instead, was his skinny quartermaster straddling an armed man, repeatedly beating his skull with a mallet. Undershirt covered in blood, breathing hard but evenly. Bond is frozen in place at the scene before him, distracted enough at the sight that he neglected his surroundings.

Q whips his head to face him, curls untamed and bouncing, as he grabs the gun from the beaten soldier’s grasp, and instantly fires a bullet over Bond’s shoulder.

The sound of a heavy body hitting the concrete floor behind him causes his to quickly turn around to see another armoured man, dead only a few meters from him, bullet wound directly through his left eye…

…Slowly turning to face his quartermaster once more, he watches as the not so scrawny man gracefully stands from off the body, bespectacled blue eyes not straying for a second from his own. Blood spattering high cheekbones, thin fingers tightly wrapped around the grip of the gun, hands steady and confident. He’s done this before.

“007, I take it you’re here to rescue me?”

…Bond has never been so attracted to someone in his entire life.

I think we all forget that Bond is the quiet one and Q is the loudmouth. Sure, Bond is so suave and cool and sexy and charismatic- that’s his whole deal- but rarely does he make small talk or chat. Because everything he does is for a goal or super-objective, so the lad really doesn’t do a lot of pointless talking.

Q on the other hand? Oh he natters. He nitpicks. He loves some good rapport. He makes awful jokes and banters and asks waiters their favorite meal. He doesn’t do it with any charisma whatsoever but he likes chatting.

This gives you two wonderful things:

1. Bond and Q grabbing coffee, Q flapping his hands around and explaining some new thing. Maybe the latest book he’s finished, maybe his new project, maybe the newest opera vinyl he’s been playing for them while he cooks spaghetti. Bond watching him with that smarmy little smile that says he’s enamored with the strange guy in front of him and proud to be sat with him. Cocking his head to listen as Q starts in on a new topic. And Q doesn’t worry that he’s talking too much because Bond is taking everything in, adding the occasional helpful observation or little question.

Q’s never felt so valued and Bond’s never felt so comfortable.

On the other hand:

2. Q’s incessant chatter and banter often head to Bond needing to find new ways to get him to stop bickering. These include a soft hand in his hair that suddenly turns to a pull, a lazy finger along the inside of his thigh at the dinner table, a hand squeezing all the way around his wrist with just enough pressure, his tie being straightened–yanked. Little habits that make Q stop in his tracks and reevaluate what he was saying or … decide that he could be doing something else instead of talking.

Im soooo weak to when Bond is like casually being used or exploited at his expense for some ostensible Greater Good except the situation doesn't HAVE to come to that, not really, and he's so inured and even numb to it that he barely pays it any mind; meanwhile, Q absolutely minds and is very indignant on his behalf and works overtime to like either try to avert or forestall the situation before it gets to the point where Bond has to dig his own claws into more of his soft underbelly to offer up on the sacrificial alter of politics of all tawdry things, or to manufacture a way in which he does the needless "needful" so as to spare Bond at least one unnecessary additional wound upon his psyche.

bonus if Bond finds out and maybe after being angry or indignant about it - I don't need you to do my job for me, Q, this is what I'm here to do - and either Q tells him/lets slip or he deduces that like, this isn't Q thinking he can't get the job done, this is Q finding him precious and worthy of protecting, and like. he's just very in awe of that and does in fact feel very safe and cherished within the cradle of his Quartermaster's regard

the names people choose for Q in their 00q fics truly make me giggle because some people choose posho names like Quinlen or Siger... and then others are just like,,, Mike LOLOLOL

Q is very competent (fact), and is generally regarded as one of the cleverest people in the local area (at least Bond thinks so), and so when he says/ does something, people do it. he's a leader, right?

so when he goes up to Bond as is just like "we're going here" or "we're doing this" or "you should do this", he listens (outside of missions, of course). he doesn't even know what's going on- and he doesn't want to, because surely Q knows what hes doing. like, yeah, I'll follow you to the end of the earth, because youd be going for a good reason, and youd know how to get back.

i just think that outside of missions Q would be doing stuff and Bond would just follow along like a little baby duck, because where else is he going? and he of course would trust Q to drag him around, Q's the one who knows everything (ie how to function as a normal person) so yeah, he's in good hands.

is this- somewhat accidental- top Q propaganda? you interpret that

I'll tell you what this has become accidental propaganda for: Bond's massive abandonment issues. hes been abandoned by basically everyone at some point, so hes definitely like ' hi (: hello (: will you let me stay within 6ft of you forever (:' and Q at first might be a bit wary of being tailed in his own workplace, but is soon all like, ' come along lets do this, lets do that.' aaaaaaaaaaand now they're codependent, aren't they? oopsie

TLDR: Q is mumma duck, Bond is baby duck. this may cause problems, but it is 00q.
