hawke and varric best friends feelings have returned to eat my brain. my one (1) fear for veilguard currently is varric not mentioning hawke much at all or there being the implication they've drifted apart. I literally need one line of varric going 'hawke is keeping the home fires burning (and sending me so many dumb showerthought letters along the way <3)' in so many words and then it's going to be okay for me. it's alright if varric dies over the course of the story (for the drama you understand) but if he and hawke are not best friends anymore I will die

for a kids’ cartoon, this show has got a LOT of different endings. for ANY show, it’s got a lot of different endings! i’m really very curious about which ones other people liked best.
Notes:
The holiday episodes are listed as their own future because they clearly take place after a lot of summer already happened (Canderemy being an established couple, Heinz & Perry on very good terms, Irving being there). But it’s fall/winter, so summer is over. But it’s not compliant with “Last Day of Summer,” since Heinz is still very much scheming. Hence — alternate future.
With those rules in mind, Candace Against the Universe is still not considered to cause an alternate future here on the grounds that OP believes the joke with Perry’s watch at the end led to another round of Amnesia-inator.
Fun Fact: “Act Your Age” & “OWCA Files” are the only futures here that are reconcilable with “Last Day Of Summer.” I’m not including “Doof 101” in this for two reasons — it would take place directly after LDOS, but Vanessa’s attitude to her father appears different (at least to me), plus there wouldn’t have been time for a whole arrest/hard-time-or-community-service thing to go down. I’m also not including “Quantum Boogaloo” on the grounds that Heinz & Perry in the good timeline give the impression that Heinz never quit evil. Plus, from a Doylist perspective, I don’t believe they would have had Doof-1 create that horrific of an empire if QB had been an episode in later seasons. MML is not LDOS compliant because Heinz is still “evil” when Milo&co meet him (I think - I’ve not watched it).
edit: i’ve now watched MML. heinz is, in fact, no longer evil. he still sets traps for the pizza guy, though. and it is LDOS compliant. idk he’s just like that.

💗 Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Spread the self-love! 💗
-- @the-frankenman-writes
🥺thank you @the-frankenman-writes omg!!!!
Tumblr media
Let's see, 5 favourites in no particular order...
Holy, Holy, Holy (Original, 689 Words) - Abstract, flowery smut, reader x eldritch angel
While We Wait (The Sandman, 371 Words) - One of a series of 2nd person ficlets following a Dream left behind when Morpheus was trapped by Burgess (I recommend the whole series but this is the one that cemented my love for the character)
What Do You Call A Double Life When It Doubles? (Quantum Leap x Torchwood, 2608 Words) - Lil niche but I had so much fun with it -- it's a crossover where Ian Wright becomes a double agent for Torchwood through a series of unfortunate coincidences
Labels (Quantum Leap, 884 Words) - In which Jenn Chou is a mentally ill lesbian who happens to be attracted to Ian, and she has to figure out what that means for her. It's a reminiscent lil piece going over Jenn's journey of discovering herself. I wasn't sure about this when I wrote it because it was mostly just me working through some shit, but I got some really sweet comments about it and making people feel seen has always been one of my goals in writing <3
Corypheus Has Nothing On Stairs (Dragon Age, 622 Words) - In which my Lavellan suffers with chronic pain and fatigue but is also Extremely Stubborn. I'm not sure my characterisation of the Dalish is entirely correct any more but the fic still holds up and it made an ableist angry in the comments to bonus points for me!

Remember when New Agers said that we were going to have quantum healing beds ("med beds") that would fix all of our health problems by now? Because I sure do. These things were supposed to be fully rolled out and implemented by now and everybody was supposed to have free access to them.
That's New Age predictions for you, though. The big changes are always just on the horizon, but they never manifest. They just keep hovering on a little further ahead, like a glittering mirage in a hot desert. Some folks catch on and turn away to find something real, but others keep following the mirage until they die.

bad tropes
I have so much trouble enjoying science fiction and historical fiction nowadays. My stupid college education is getting in the way. things that go through my head:
-no, you can’t harvest zero-point energy from a vacuum; you need an energy gradient to do that.
-wormholes are supposed to be spheres
-no, aliens did not build the pyramids for goodness sake
-no, the church did not declare science heretical in the middle ages
-why is the middle east just a big desert in this?
-if you converted somebody’s body into energy to teleport them, you would literally just be killing and cloning them; not to mention that you would essentially be turning them into a nuclear bomb. Also, perfectly recording that information is basically impossible because of the uncertainty principle
-while on the topic of star trek, I feel like that franchise takes the prize for “the most hilariously unrealistic and over-optimistic depiction of a space-faring civilization in fiction”.
-why is everyone breaking formation in this medieval battlefield? and where are all the pikes?
-that... is not how people dressed back then in that region.
-no, hyperspace isn’t white
-just... everything about “pym particles” and the “quantum realm” in marvel
-*sigh* no, the inquisition was not burning witches in the middle ages.
-stop calling it the dark ages, I BEG you
-nobody takes conservation of mass seriously
-no, making objects and creatures out of “pure energy” isn’t a thing
-ninjas refusing to use guns because “honor” LOL what the fuck they’re ASSASSINS

Greetings, dear friend. Could you share your thoughts on what is a quantum transition in the magical sense? What do you think about it? I will be very grateful for your reply!
Hello hello!
Unfortunately, anything "quantum" (specifically in new age/spiritual/witchcraft spaces) usually has nothing to do with witchcraft/magic and is deeply rooted in pseudoscience - so I (nor will anyone else) have any information for you on this. Quantum physics and other topics are much more complicated then folks want to believe, which leads to a lot of misinformation and, ultimately, folks falling for pseudoscience. More specifically, I've found that new witches/practitioners that are looking for a "scientific" reasoning that witchcraft works tend to fall down this rabbit hole of new-age beliefs such as vibrations, quantum physics, etc. (which, again, are complete pseudoscience).
@creature-wizard might have more feedback/information for you that can point you in the right direction, if you are interested in educating yourself on how terms like "quantum" are used in new-age spaces!
(Also, I cannot help but laugh at the thought that you would ask me this question - as if I know ANYTHING about the subject of quantum physics, LOL. I am not some hot-shot scientist. I'm just someone who likes to practice witchcraft and read/write about it.)

Quantum Leap HC
Sam Beckett was born sometime in the 1950s, so by the 1990s (his time), he would be in his 40s, which is generally considered "over the hill" for men. Yet, during his leaps, we see no trace of crow's feet, grey hair, and/or bald spots, among other signs of aging. Therefore, I believe that the "Sam" we see in the leaps is not Sam as he actually is, but how he visualizes himself (i.e., still in the prime of his life).

hi!
i know someone asked you this before but what do you thing about aging up to date people? do you think it's ok?
for example, i'm currently 18 years old in my dr, but i'm scripting myself to be 25 to date a person who's in their mid to late thirties
i don’t think i’ve ever actually talked about the age debate on here but this is always my take: aging others up or yourself is fine, for a lot of us these people we’re shifting to we’ve known and loved since we were kids (or were teens/younger) and so there’s no reason to be upset about it. aging yourself down is also fine as long as you’re not doing it for weird reasons; some people want the childhoods they never had, and that’s valid.
at the end of the day: i’m not the shifting police, i’m just a normal person like y’all. as long as you’re not being creepy or anything it’s your dr and you don’t need others to dictate what you can do in it.

Some old guy came up, said my jacket was beautiful (red satin with embroidered butterflies), asked where I got it, then told me about the migrational pattern of monarch butterflies, and how it took seven generations, and how God lived in that because how else would the butterflies know where to go?

The hardest Dragon Age choice I ever had to make was in Inquisition. And probably not for the reason that was intended.
Okay. So. The Fade sacrifice? Where you have to sacrifice either Hawke or your Grey Warden ally? I think. I think this was supposed to be complicated due to your attachment to them both. I think you were supposed to be biting your nails over, "But I don't want to lose either of them!"
...
Here's the thing. My Hawke? Is a bigoted piece of shit and a murderer.
After my first playthrough, I always spent a lot of time with Dragon Age games trying to really think about what I want my "canon" character to be. What fits the story and structure and all that.
For Dragon Age 2, Kirkwall felt like a story that shouldn't really have a "hero". It felt well-suited to be a tragic story about a character succumbing to personal flaws, ideological radicalization, and the unyielding darkness that infests every corner of the city no matter who wins.
On my first playthrough, I took Bethany down into the Deep Roads and she became infested with Blight and died down there, because I did not have the foresight to bring Anders.
I wanted to keep that mistake and build around it, and I wanted this story to be about succumbing to the city's darkness instead of rising above it. So I created a Hawke who, stricken by grief and beset by demons and blood magic at every turn, became radicalized by Meredith's rhetoric.
Who honestly believes that in trying to keep Bethany from the Circle, she murdered her sister, even as she signs onto the agenda of people who would actually murder her sister. A bundle of extremist rationalization and emotional self-destruction masquerading itself as a champion of the people.
So. Y'know.
Fuck her. She was designed to be a Villain Protagonist. It's not a hard decision to sacrifice her.
...
But on the other side of that equation is Teyrn Fucking Loghain.
My Warden, Fighter, just sorta went along with things that were suggested and sounded cool. Alistair should marry Anora? Good idea, nobody has any problems with that! Riordan wants Loghain to join the Wardens? Sounds great, welcome aboard best buddy!
Loghain was made a Warden so that he could sacrifice himself to the Archdemon and nobody else would have to.
But then Morrigan showed up with the Dark Ritual, and. Well. Fighter is attached at the hip to Morrigan and agrees with anything she suggests without question, unless that thing is that he should not be attached at the hip to her any longer.
So, end result, Fighter spared Loghain so that he could sacrifice himself to the Archdemon and then promptly made it so no sacrifice was necessary. The Archdemon was slain and Loghain... just... was a Grey Warden now....
Loghain's entire existence as a Warden up to this point has been a stay of execution. He was meant to give his life away, but the opportunity to do so has been playing coy.
Narratively, staying behind in the Fade is what he was here to do in the first place.
But. Counterpoint. Hawke is a fucking villain in protagonist's clothing and if anybody should die here....
So the question here isn't, "Fuck, which one do I have to lose?"
The question here is, "I can only kill off one of these assholes but which one?"
...
I chose Hawke.
Then I went back and chose Loghain.
Then I went back and chose Hawke.
Then Loghain.
Over. And over. And over. I agonized about this.
The final answer that I came to was that there is no answer. I ultimately made the decision to let the future decide. Dragon Age 4 would be the clinching factor. Whether Loghain or Hawke survived would be based entirely on whose survival makes for a more interesting story when the survivor reaches Dragon Age 4.
...
...
...
So. Uh. About that Veilguard choice importing....
