I'm a wavy-curly hair Riz believer forever. (Probably mostly from Pok but also I think Sklonda straightens her hair. Miscellaneous hair headcanons.) I think he's never taken care of it a day in his life so it's really matted and looks wavy at BEST. I think it takes Fabian really long to even REALISE this but when he does he grabs him like The Ball. What the fuck are you doing. Let me fix it The Ball let me FIX it. And then he buys him product that he won't use (unless they're like sleeping over and Fabian will do it for him) and Fabian cringes every time it comes up that Riz doesn't take care of his hair. Riz is sometimes mildly annoyed but always allows it. Also someone else washing/combing/etc your hair feels really nice and intimate so maybe he needs that. Even if he goes really really uncharacteristically quiet and sits really still and tries not to be weird Abt it. Lol.

I'm so serious I think he inhales SO sharply and mentally goes "oh." and he's so tense but he's also never relaxed into anything this much before. And it's like, wow, you can't super tell your best friend "hey man I have never felt this loved by anyone but my mother in my life. Sometimes I'm not sure if you guys value me or if I have to earn it but you're making me feel REALLY cared about right now. Ok I'm posting this because I can't stop thinking about it

I watched fantasy high sophomore year and haven't been able to stop thinking about the bad kids so I went on ao3 (even tho I haven't watch seven+junior year yet which was prooooobably a mistake but oh well)

And the sheer amount of fabriz was so unexpected ESPECIALLY considering how canonically aroace riz was. Obviously I'm not hating on anyone who ships it i just wasn't expecting it.

Then i read a bunch of anti fabriz fics and i was like hmmmmm this specifically gives QPR vibes actually.

And k thought... Actually wait a second fabriz could be a really nice QPR ship. And so i looked it up and didn't find a SINGLE WORK for it or a single art.

And i was like hmmmmm how's that even possible? Usually people would consider it for characters that are even canonically dating. Why hasn't anyone thought of QPR fabian and riz?

So i decided to come on tumblr and ask that. because they seem like the exact perfect duo for a queer platonic relationship. A very aroace goblin and his half elf best friend who are shipped together SO MUCH by the fandom. They would actually be perfect as a QPR.

So tumblr this is me just mentioning the idea of that . Please consider it because i think that it's a super cool idea :D

Fabian trying to cook or bake (horrible and awful) and Riz letting him do his thing (he wants to figure it out himself. Something about change. Something about independence.) while eating his failed attempts so nothing goes to waste (because truly no amount of burned or undercooked will stop Riz Gukgak from chowing down). I think this is love.

They spend the afternoon that way, it's summer and for once the fate of the world doesn't seem to rest upon their shoulders. Maybe next week, but not today. Riz is sitting on the counter already prepping schoolwork for his next year because he's like that and he only looks up to taste test (no tie or vest; his briefcase holds his arquebus like usual but it's resting at the table, so far away that it'd take him several precious seconds to reach it. Maybe that means something. If Fabian understands that then he doesn't address it.) (I think this is love.)

Fabian is someone that rarely shuts up, it's like he has to fill the space because silence makes him uncomfortable (and maybe he also enjoys listening to himself talk a little bit), but he's quietly focused this time. When he finally gets it right and shares with Cathilda she praises him like she always does but this time it feels bigger. She'll smile and make him bend down so she can kiss his forehead and they'll have a nice supper and maybe he remembers to buy her flowers for Mother's Day next time. I think this is love.

(Hallariel might notice, she might not. Sometimes she gets better about paying attention to him and sometimes she gets worse, the baby and Gilear have been holding most of her attention lately. It's understandable, in a way, and there's a way in which it's really not. Fabian eventually learns not to chase after her no matter how much he wants to. All this yearning is for naught. I think this is still love. It's just that love alone isn't enough, love without commitment is something that feels very cruel. I think he learns to focus on the love that comes without drawbacks; I don't know if she ever learns to love without them.)

Riz sleeps over just because. Cathilda doesn't question it. The Hangman doesn't question it. Fabian has his best friend's night time rituals memorised, he doesn't really get it but he's glad that Riz feels comfortable enough to be weird and feel safe. I think this is love.

(Obligatory hi, to me this post is not about romance. I think Fabian has girlfriends and sometimes boyfriends, right now it's Mazey and he really likes her. I think Riz is his best friend and always stays by his side. I think they love each other. Wouldn't kiss, wouldn't date, would hold each other and fall asleep after a long day. Something something, they're queerplatonic but Fabian doesn't know that word yet and Riz hasn't brought it up.)

This is vaguely a oneshot I was gonna write but I've lost my passion for it. But the idea was still nice and I do still think about it. I think about Fabian and all the love in his life, and then I think that whatever he and Riz have going on and the way he's literally Cathilda's actual son talk to the wall are my favourites.

I think Fabian likes to bedazzle himself with gold jewellery (ear piercings, rings, necklaces, hair jewellery if it's long enough and he has like. Braids idk.) even though he is a dancer and should not be doing that (he does take them off for bard class he just. He just goes through the effort of putting it all back on otherwise) (oh wait he has to take a lot of it off for bloodrush too. Right. He does that.) He's Fabian and he likes to stand out and he's gonna bedazzle himself and maintain a general sexy dancing pirate aesthetic whether you like it or not. (He does not call it that but Fig does.) Number one pretty boy and proud of the title. He twinkles a little when there's light on him and there's a soft comforting clink-clank wherever he goes.

Riz likes to play with said jewellery also lmao. He absolutely stims by fumbling with his own bracers and rings but Fabian has so much more to absentmindedly play with and with him it makes fun little sounds. Delightful. His favourite is when Fabian wears dangly earrings but that's very rare. This is mostly a casual weird autistic (affectionately) friendship thing to me but you can take it as "more" than that if you want idm

As I try to think about and write combat scenes with the Bad Kids I notice Fabian and Riz might be the most compelling duo for me to write even when I try not to be insane about qpr stuff. Idk they work well together, not just chemistry character wise but also just. Like. Narratively? Fabian demands attention in every space he enters no matter if he opens his mouth or not, and he gets that attention, especially now with his battle master manoeuvres and general bard demeanour. Riz works the most effectively when no one is looking at him. People are often happy to overlook him, but sometimes they zero in on him for all the wrong reasons. The bigger Fabian's presence is the bigger the shadow he casts becomes and Riz so comfortably works hiding in the shadows.

Very simple and obvious but it's a nice dynamic to fall back on. Be it oh fuck I concentrated too much on the really loud guy stabbing me and forgot to even try to look for the guy that just got a 27 on stealth or okay social encounter Fabian's doing a lot of talking because he's so charismatic and makes people let their intellectual guard down and Riz is quietly listening in and properly absorbing information to draw conclusions Fabian couldn't come to because he's not the most insightful guy

Fabriz post. It's really funny to me if Fabian is really attracted to Riz and Riz is just a sex repulsed king. Asexuality is a spectrum and you can put him anywhere you want on it but I just always think to myself "god it'd be funny if this guy hated sex and his absolute boyfailure of a partner is just so pathetically teenager horny next to him but truly so quiet about it out of courtesy" and I'm right idc.

This works if they're romantic lmao but to me they're so queerplatonic. And Fabian's polyam and Riz is there. Riz is aroace, Fabian is probably aro-spec but in like the opposite direction. Headcanons upon headcanons but yknow.

I've been in relationships with people who like sex and they would dare to mention it in my presence and I so viscerally remember sitting there and thinking to myself please gods you have to stop. You have to stop before all my feeble attraction to you fades. You,,,are attracted to people, barbaric (Lighthearted). Cannot begin describe the physical discomfort but it is also hilarious when I think about it. And like, Fabian would do it in front of/to Riz maybe twice, clock that it makes him uncomfortable and then make a paladin level oath to himself to never repeat it (and he catches himself in the future and just stops and everything is fine right). But that doesn't change that he thinks Riz is so hot, and Riz can absolutely tell his passive insight isn't that high for nothing, and maybe I'm just projecting this experience onto Riz because I cannot be the only one in awkward hell but it's just like yeah my boyfriend thinks I'm hot that's cool. He thinks a lot of people are hot. Does he have sex thoughts about me I hate sex. He was really staring at me before I prestidigitaion-ed away all the blood from absolutely murderising some guy. He's into me murderising people that's interesting. Now he's looking away in shame. He's so pathetic, I love him, this is deeply uncomfortable but has reaffirmed my affection, I hope this doesn't happen again. (It does). Something like that.

I mean, stuff like this is why relationships between people who are ace and people who are allo often don't work out and that's valid but with how I see Fabriz I think it's a non-issue lol. Im very fond of soulmate AUs but I've never been a fan of the "you spend your whole life waiting for the ONE and you HAVE to date or you're weird" it feels iffy to me (I mean I'm arorace so maybe that's it). I enjoy "oh you're on the same wave length, if you meet you for sure will have a deep emotional connection with this person but who knows what it'll entail. And maybe you'll never meet but that doesn't mean your life will be any less fulfilled". It's more of a,,,you were born under the same star, lol? But yeah I wanna write a few fantasy high fics with that concept.

I'm partial to (temporarily) mirroring markings on each other's skin soulmate AUs but honestly I'm not super sure what to do with this one. But I'm throwing up ideas because I can't just stay silent, I'd explode.

Listen. Listen. Sandra Lynn and Gilear are soulmates. Being inherently compatible doesn't mean you can't fuck up. The two have a genuine connection and she loved Gilear but she was never 100% sure that she was in love with him, and monogamy maybe wasn't right for her either but she was ignoring all those doubts and complex feeling in favour of going for the safe and easy life that society expected and that would, short term, definitely make her happy. It'd make Gilear happy, too. (The possibility of living an immortal life without a partner by her side might have scared her more than the possibility of that partner not being the right one.) Both of them later find new happiness in their respective partners, and they're on okay terms but they never restore the closeness they once had. Which is okay, certain mistakes can't be undone even if they're forgiven, and certain relationships just won't be restored. But yeah complex feeling about this and how sometimes soulmates don't mean forever.

Branching off of this, Fig. The divorce causes all the problems with Fig it normally does, but it also makes her write off the idea of soulmates completely. True love doesn't exist type deal (which I agree with. Feelings can change and you have the potential to love anyone, and anyone has the potential to be loved. But for a teenage girl that might have previously romanticised the concept of it this realisation can be upsetting and lead into the other extreme, which is that love in general can never be sincere. Which hey, is a sad outlook.) She tries to replicate the feeling for validation with faces that aren't her own but eventually finds someone that loves her for her and becomes comfortable being the person she is. Ayda happens to be her soulmate but they'd love each other regardless of that.

(Ayda's past incarnations have had varying soulmates. The ones she has records of never met theirs and she really was in the "why would I have one in the first place" mindset. Who knows about the Aydas that came before her, It's so far in the past that I don't think it matters.)

(Idk if Jawbone has a soulmate and if he does idk if he has met them. But I don't think that matters much they're not on his mind.)

Less romance related take on soulmates are Fabian and Riz I think! Fabian is in denial at first because Riz is a loser (not that Fabian isn't a loser lmao. But Riz is like, a social loser.) but Riz immediately decides this is his GUY. This is his best friend. And Fabian does too honestly but it takes him a while to get over being a shitty teenager and be open about it. The whole sophomore year stuff. I do think Riz is aroace and I have my. aro-spec thoughts about Fabian so this can go either "just" best friends (I don't want to de-value purely platonic relationships they're SO good and important and shouldn't be placed below romantic ones all the time) or venture into more queerplatonic territory. Which I also really like with those two lol. But they're a package deal with a deep connected and care for each other greatly :)

Gorgug hasn't met his soulmate and he truly does not care. He has all the time in the world, and if he never meets them that's fine too? His parents are definitely soulmates but being raised by them I think it'd truly be so hard to become insecure about societal expectations like that. This is covered somewhere in the sex and relationship folder probably. Gorgug is such a guy. Zelda, Mary-Ann, Squeem, Unit, Ragh(??). Everyone wants him. He's mostly up for it. SUCH a guy.

Oh! Also. Lucy and Kipperlilly were soulmates. Just, cause, yeah. I think Lucy has so much shit to work through in therapy and this might be #1 on the list because, like, yeah.

Oh also non-romantic soulmates Adaine and Aelwyn,,,they're so important to me. They're so important to each other too. For a really long time Adaine thought something must be wrong with her for her soulmate to treat her like this, something must be wrong with the world for the stars to align only to promise her cruelty. They're okay now. Aelwyn of course felt deeply guilty for everything she was doing but also shoved said guilt so far down she barely felt it. Their relationship is already perfectly articulated in canon I don't have much to add to this, I just wanna write them softly rebuilding their relationship I love them so dearly.

eughhhhh okay i'm caving i'm giving in this is it this is the qpr fabriz post i can no longer pretend that im normal abt them. This is just vaguely connected string of thoughts ft arospec headcanons. And very personal, I also often enjoy other people's more explicitly romantic interpretations of them but hey this is mine.

I've been fond of Fabriz ever since Riz offered to tear someone's eye out for Fabian because he was on a violent high and I jokingly said "woah that's romantic" but then it suddenly occurred to me that Fabian Aramais Seacaster, Son of Bill Seacaster the greatest pirate to have ever lived should actually think so too (even if he's like "what the fuck??" in the moment because Riz is ultimately, funnily enough, consistently more hardcore and violent than Fabian ((and honestly the rest of the party too 98% of the time))). There's something about "oh this guy took your eye? Want me to bite his out of his corpse for you?" that shows undeniable devotion and deep affection, be it because they're best friends or more.

After the second season it for me personally warped into more oh okay aroace king. (Oriented aroace. Because of Baron.) This isn't romantic it's just a deep emotional connection on a level that doesn't really fit into conventional terms but they're very important to each other and enjoy existing in the same space together but that's still Fabriz, just a different flavour, so y'know.

I think Fabian dates people and Riz stays at his side all the same. I think that if in the far future he and Mazey weren't together anymore because idk, Highschool romances don't often last forever, he would still be like hello potential romantic partner this is Riz The Ball Gukgak he is very important to me and my emotional support and also impulse control and whether you and I work out or not Riz will always occupy the space closest to me, it's about whether you're willing to share the space or not. He definitely is.

Riz doesn't have any romantic feelings but he's happy to be important enough to his dearest friend to be a priority even when relationships are involved. I think he's fine "sharing" affections because he's learned to feel secure in the fact he won't be abandoned. And he has his other friends who love him too (though not in the same way Fabian does, of course. And that's okay, he wouldn't want to occupy the role he occupies in Fabian's life in theirs. It's different) and he loves them and life is good, sometimes. He kind of just wants to be together forever without the implications or obligations a typical romantic relationship would bring? And there's a point where he's like "hey Fabian am I ruining dating people for you?" and he's. Worried. About that. But Fabian would assure him that it's fine, he's probably not all that compatible with people who are uncomfortable sharing anyway. I think a strictly monogamous partner wouldn't be all that happy with him, regardless of whether Riz is involved or not.

Fabian has a lot of love in his heart and feels it very strongly and it's kind of impossible to limit it to only one person? Polyamarous king. This is where I note that I do read Fabian as being aro-spec (allosexual though) but on a completely different level than Riz is. Fabian adores people so quickly and so strongly, and I think at some point he isn't able to differentiate whether that adoration is platonic or romantic or something in between? And that's a struggle at first, it'd be a struggle for any teenager, but I think as he'd get older he'd stop caring as much. No sense trying to label something that's so all over the place, he just goes with the flow? He calls it love and that's that, and he'll indulge in it.

Fabian says "I love you" a lot, Riz says it back. It doesn't necessarily mean the same thing, but it doesn't have to, that's fine. I think Fabian's love language is literally all of them (though giving gifts above all, maybe?) and Riz's is just quality time (acts of service is a close second), so a lot of their relationship is just hanging out like they would with other friends as well (and Fabian paying for as much stuff as he can get away with). I think Riz isn't opposed to physical affection but he's not a fan of pda, and while he likes sharing a blanket in the winter or sitting way too close in the back of the hangvan or pressing his face into Fabian's back when they're riding the hangman he'd probably not be that into hand holding. Its fine but it's probably more pleasant to maintain physical closeness in other ways with the height difference? And the claws, idk. There's also kissing. Riz would be cool with like, cheek or forehead kisses probably? (Unless he's having a day where he really doesn't want anyone to touch him period. Which I do think happens. Something something autism I don't think I can word this properly in detail) And Fabian would grab his face and smother him in those for fun. Or get dramatic and kiss his hand and act suave only to eat shit ten seconds later. I think being kissed on the mouth is a different story and kind of a fifty-fifty, depends on how touchy Riz is feeling that day. But in concept he's fine with it as long as it's just like, a peck on the lips, because he sees it as an expression of intimacy and affection and hey he doesn't have a problem with that that's cool. I definitely don't think he'd initiate them, though. It's more a "oh hey my partner likes this and I don't mind doing it for him" thing.

Oh speaking of the word partner that's the word they'd use, I think. Not boyfriends, just partners, and they're not dating but they're together. It's not, like, a thing they're particular about it's just the words I think they'd feel inclined to use. They probably don't talk about any of this stuff in that much depth, Fabian isn't that introspective anyway. It's kind of just a state of being. And what's a nicer state to exist in than close to your best friend?

Idk, I don't usually get involved with fandoms where a character seems so aromantic in a way I can relate to or a pairing feels so queerplatonic to me, but these two sure do and that's so delightful that I think about them all the time.

I feel like we don't acknowledge enough that this is insane) and also a straight a student is already incredibly funny to me but the fact he personally killed toxic masculinity (in his opinion) and is, in my opinion, at least a little queer, makes it even better.

Like GOD he's so stereotypical teen movie big mouthed rich jock but he's also not that at ALL and he respects women and he loves his friends so much and he's genuinely such a sweet kid and I love him. I like to think there were guys (especially on the owlbears) who, for maybe a week, were like wow Fabian dances now that's gay (derogatory) (and for the record I know he was flamboyant before but BEFORE he was still trying to be a macho champion guy so it was different but now he's /just/ flamboyant) but Fabian exorcises the toxic masculinity and homophobia out of them. How does he do it? I don't know. It's magic. He's magic.

Im a qpr Fabriz + romantic Mazey/Fabian truther so its extra funny to me that Fabian is like this. Incredibly cool popular hot guy that everyone likes and probably a lot of people are attracted to that throws banger parties and his girlfriend pulls out twister at said parties and doesn't drink (good for her) and is apparently considered unattractive (i like to think this is a. Fantasy racism thing? Interesting." Aramais Seacaster have to navigate a series of misunderstandings before they can make out. That's it that's the fic.

Fabian and Riz are married. They are not romantically involved and if you suggest this to Riz he will stare at you until you get uncomfortable and stop. (They live together and it was just convenient. Also "why would you pay for all my expenses are you insane" "we're married shut up PLEASE just let me make life easier for you with my dead dad's money." There's something about "oh this guy took your eye? Want me to bite his out of his corpse for you?" that shows undeniable devotion and deep affection, be it because they're best friends or more.

After the second season it for me personally warped into more oh okay aroace king. (Oriented aroace. Because of Baron.) This isn't romantic it's just a deep emotional connection on a level that doesn't really fit into conventional terms but they're very important to each other and enjoy existing in the same space together but that's still Fabriz, just a different flavour, so y'know.

I think Fabian dates people and Riz stays at his side all the same. I think that if in the far future he and Mazey weren't together anymore because idk, Highschool romances don't often last forever, he would still be like hello potential romantic partner this is Riz The Ball Gukgak he is very important to me and my emotional support and also impulse control and whether you and I work out or not Riz will always occupy the space closest to me, it's about whether you're willing to share the space or not. He definitely is.

Riz doesn't have any romantic feelings but he's happy to be important enough to his dearest friend to be a priority even when relationships are involved. I think he's fine "sharing" affections because he's learned to feel secure in the fact he won't be abandoned. And he has his other friends who love him too (though not in the same way Fabian does, of course. And that's okay, he wouldn't want to occupy the role he occupies in Fabian's life in theirs. It's different) and he loves them and life is good, sometimes. He kind of just wants to be together forever without the implications or obligations a typical romantic relationship would bring? And there's a point where he's like "hey Fabian am I ruining dating people for you?" and he's. Worried. About that. But Fabian would assure him that it's fine, he's probably not all that compatible with people who are uncomfortable sharing anyway. I think a strictly monogamous partner wouldn't be all that happy with him, regardless of whether Riz is involved or not.

Fabian has a lot of love in his heart and feels it very strongly and it's kind of impossible to limit it to only one person? Polyamarous king. This is where I note that I do read Fabian as being aro-spec (allosexual though) but on a completely different level than Riz is. Fabian adores people so quickly and so strongly, and I think at some point he isn't able to differentiate whether that adoration is platonic or romantic or something in between? And that's a struggle at first, it'd be a struggle for any teenager, but I think as he'd get older he'd stop caring as much. No sense trying to label something that's so all over the place, he just goes with the flow? He calls it love and that's that, and he'll indulge in it.

Fabian says "I love you" a lot, Riz says it back. It doesn't necessarily mean the same thing, but it doesn't have to, that's fine. I think Fabian's love language is literally all of them (though giving gifts above all, maybe?) and Riz's is just quality time (acts of service is a close second), so a lot of their relationship is just hanging out like they would with other friends as well (and Fabian paying for as much stuff as he can get away with). I think Riz isn't opposed to physical affection but he's not a fan of pda, and while he likes sharing a blanket in the winter or sitting way too close in the back of the hangvan or pressing his face into Fabian's back when they're riding the hangman he'd probably not be that into hand holding. Its fine but it's probably more pleasant to maintain physical closeness in other ways with the height difference? And the claws, idk. There's also kissing. Riz would be cool with like, cheek or forehead kisses probably? (Unless he's having a day where he really doesn't want anyone to touch him period. Which I do think happens. Something something autism I don't think I can word this properly in detail) And Fabian would grab his face and smother him in those for fun. Or get dramatic and kiss his hand and act suave only to eat shit ten seconds later. I think being kissed on the mouth is a different story and kind of a fifty-fifty, depends on how touchy Riz is feeling that day. But in concept he's fine with it as long as it's just like, a peck on the lips, because he sees it as an expression of intimacy and affection and hey he doesn't have a problem with that that's cool. I definitely don't think he'd initiate them, though. It's more a "oh hey my partner likes this and I don't mind doing it for him" thing.

Oh speaking of the word partner that's the word they'd use, I think. Not boyfriends, just partners, and they're not dating but they're together. It's not, like, a thing they're particular about it's just the words I think they'd feel inclined to use. They probably don't talk about any of this stuff in that much depth, Fabian isn't that introspective anyway. It's kind of just a state of being. And what's a nicer state to exist in than close to your best friend?

Idk, I don't usually get involved with fandoms where a character seems so aromantic in a way I can relate to or a pairing feels so queerplatonic to me, but these two sure do and that's so delightful that I think about them all the time.
