Ragh's first guy kiss (I'm gonna assume it wasn't his first kiss in general but it'd be funny if it were) was the drummer of a famous rock band (and saved the world a few times but he moves in adventuring circles so maybe not as big of a deal) and I think that's cool. I think he should get to brag about it a little bit. I think he wouldn't. What a way to start the gay thing. What a fucking insane coming out story in general.

Yeah man my evil ex-vice principle turned out to be the emperor of the red waste Kalvaxus and he was gonna try world domination and kill a bunch of people and my ex best friend and also crush was involved in the whole conspiracy and I happened to confess that I was in love with him earlier that day and he punched me in the face and then said some more weird shit that's not important right now- no haha it's fine. He sucked I punched him in hell. Anyway this was at prom also. And then this adventuring party called the Bad Kids busted in to stop Kalvaxus and attacked my shitty ex friend and I was in my fucking feels so when they killed him I kind of freaked out and tried to fight them, and then their barbarian my friend Gorgug — yeah the one from Fig and the Cig Figs, we used to play Bloodrush together actually, but yeah he kissed me on the mouth. In front of the evil dragon yes. Yeah. Then I came out that was really encouraging to me it felt awesome. Then the dragon almost killed me I think he was homophobic. Yeah.

I don’t like minimizing the importance and gravity of Laios and Toshiro’s fight into just being a childish squabble, even if to a degree it is framed that way, because to both of them it has a lot of personal significance and emotional weight and runs very deep to their characters… The fight isn’t nothing it’s a LOT, they made up but it’s not something easy to express and to get over for either of them which makes it all the more meaningful! I’m on both sides but there very much are sides, there’s no "they’re both having a ball, Toshiro and Laios hand in hand yay" side to the fight, that comes after

The fight with Toshiro WAS very scary to Laios, almost existentially so, but it’s moreso the "I thought I’d made a friend!!" bit and my god. My god actually

Like it’s not "just" about oh his friend liking him less than he thought, THAT IS SO MUCH. It’s a bond he thought he had being a lie it’s all the time and moments spent together either being a lie from his perspective or marred now looking back. It’s not only being upset at Toshiro for lying but upset at himself that he’s so easy to fool, it’s being upset that there’s something so wrong with you that you can’t even tell if your "close buddy" even actually likes you or not, it’s like. Holding my head. He can’t trust his own vision of events that happened do you see. There’s always this film of distrust that it could be a lie that should be there when he interacts with people there’s always this sense of cloak and dagger to expect backstabs out of nowhere because you CAN’T see it coming you CAN’T you CAN’T there’s something about you which makes it impossible so you CAN’T-

He’s so scared of not being able to read people. He knows it’s a weak spot he has, he’s always known. All of these bits are centered around social expectations and betrayals, the assumption that he doesn’t belong either in society or with other humans.

And Laios’ level of awareness is actually sort of complex to analyze, but it’s there, there’s how out of him and Falin he was the one sensitive to the ~aura of hatred~ he felt from the townspeople, there’s of course his nightmares whispering to him about the mocking looks, and how yeah actually he realizes that his gold stripper coworker was taking advantage of him. There’s of course the Winged Lion speech about his trauma and how he fundamentally mistrusts/dislikes humans to some deep seated degree, this distrust that he still keeps under control always. There’s how pre-canon he often wanted to suggest eating monsters but never worked up the courage to bring it up with the others. There’s how he gets across as stoic when he isn’t being enthusiastic…… We don’t know how aware and wary he is exactly in the moment but we do know he has some anxiety around social stuff, and looking back he does notice and aughh augh, the sense you have to hide yourself to not get hurt and be on your guard and shit and.

When you don’t know what to look out for and when to look out for it, the general ‘common sense’ of not always trusting people or noticing when someone’s messing with you becomes hypervigilance in social settings

"Man they really know what you hate huh." Being socially unaware literally plagues him, he knows, he knows it so well.

It’s so quick that it’s almost hard to digest how literal and blatant Laios summoning his monster to crush all the people who’ve hurt him is. His literal go-to coping mechanism for comfort in his literal monster-induced emotionally intense nightmares, saving him by taking away the upsetting element (the humans)

"Monsters are his coping fantasy, where they can whisk him away from humanity, all the hurt it’s caused him and its arbitrary rules" with the subtlety of a brick. Monsters are his comfort safe zone "because they kill humans" yes but no it’s because he pits them as the guardians against humans who to him are in the role of the agressors. To him they represent freedom from the shackles of what it means to be part of humanity, a fundamentally social species

!Long post because I DO love writing about how unhinged Snow is and how he loves shooting himself in the foot—

Remember in Catching Fire when Snow just APPEARS in Katniss’ house to threaten her before the victory tour like the ghost of hunger games past?

Knowing now his obsession with Covey girls and not loving their partners, these lines are a helluva lot more impactful.

(“Peeta. How is the love of your life?” he (Snow) asks.

“Good,” I say.

“At what point did he realize the exact degree of your indifference?” he asks, dipping his cookie in his tea.

���I’m not indifferent,” I say.

“But perhaps not as taken with the young man as you would have the country believe,” he says.

“Who says I’m not?” I say.

“I do,” says the president. “And I wouldn’t be here if I were the only person who had doubts. How’s the handsome cousin?” (Catching Fire, 7))

Snow openly states that he DOES NOT believe that Katniss is capable of actually loving Peeta. (I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s because of his bizarro obsession with Lucy Gray).

Meanwhile, she has risked her life MANY times to save Peeta, thinks about his dreamy eyelashes, and the biggest reason she does not think about him romantically is BECAUSE of the situation that Snow has put them in!!!

(“I want to tell him that he’s (Peeta’s) not being fair…That I can’t explain how things are with Gale because I don’t know myself....That if I do have feelings for him (Peeta), it doesn’t matter because I’ll never be able to afford the kind of love that leads to a family, to children. And how can he? How can he after what we’ve just been through?” (The Hunger Games, 373))

Snow asks about Gale because he remembers Billy Taupe, and sees Katniss’ indecision around him as infidelity toward Peeta. He is MAD projecting. Even if Katniss WAS as deeply obsessed with Peeta like she pretends to be, I doubt that Snow would recognize it.

Further, when Katniss tours 8 in Mockingjay, people in the Districts ask her especially about Peeta (“Despite his controversial interview with Caesar, many ask about Peeta, assure me that they know he was speaking under duress.” (Mockingjay, 81). PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICTS BELIEVE THEIR LOVE STORY IS REAL. Maybe not all of them, but enough that INJURED rebels are insisting to Katniss that they know he is being tortured, and know how hard it must be for her. Even THEY are able to recognize her love is real.

In projecting his shit onto Katniss, Snow has prevented her from realizing her actual love for Peeta, because he emphasizes her need to PERFORM rather than to feel love. And he emphasizes this BECAUSE he STILL does not understand how love really works, only how to manipulate and control. If Katniss had more space and time, (and if a DISGUSTING AWFUL OLD FASCIST MAN wasn’t OBSESSED with her needing to perform love toward Peeta), there is a good chance that she would have figured out her love for Peeta faster and more organically!!!

ADDITIONALLY (I do so love slam dunking on coriobimbam): the fact that snow makes it seem like (or genuinely BELIEVES) their stunt with the berries is THE thing that causes the revolution is so telling to me.

It is the LOVE that Katniss and Peeta have for each other that led them to take the berries in the first place:

(“No, you can’t kill yourself,” I say. I’m on my knees, desperately plastering the bandage back onto his wound.

“Katniss,” he says. “It’s what I want.”

“You’re not leaving me here alone,” I say. Because if he (Peeta) dies, I’ll never go home, not really. I’ll spend the rest of my life in this arena trying to think my way out. (The Hunger Games, 343))

BEFORE she thinks about outsmarting the gamemakers, BEFORE she thinks of revolution, she is DESPERATE to save Peeta. The people in the Districts aren’t seeing the BERRIES as the rebellion, they’re seeing the love that these two have, DESPITE the horrible situation they are in (the situation that SNOW HAS PUT THEM IN), as the revolution. They see that these two act OUT OF LOVE, not out of maliciousness, and THAT is what inspires them to rebel.

AND SNOW DOESN’T GET IT!!!!!!! His (any fascist’s?) inability to understand love, to understand compassion and self-sacrifice, hell maybe even just FRIENDSHIP is what leads to his downfall.

TLDR: snow ‘s inability to understand love and his NEED to project his issues (in an UN-FUCKING-HINGED manner) onto Katniss and Peeta are what led to his downfall.

Gorgug has tusks and Riz has fangs and they are such creatures and they are. Friends. Gorgug growls and Riz hisses and they actually both do some variation of a chirp or chitter and Gorgug's rage is a frenzy and Riz's bloodlust is a fury and it is. Good. They are not human and they do not have to be.

Also Riz claws and tail. Also you know how dogs and I think other canines but idk I'm not a mammal guy start drooling/foaming at the mouth because of overexertion or stress or anxiety? Gorgug when he's raging. This is less because he's half orc and more because he's specifically a berserker* and that subclass goes crazy. Frenzy, mindless rage, okay bitch we're snarling and drooling and animal and taking a level of exhaustion afterwards. Love that.

Solace is fantasy racist sometimes and I think they both separately had some trouble accepting themselves and their less palatable features and I probably rambled about that in a long post I can't remember rn but they do now and they are so good and I adore them.

Since the very beginning I've been fixated on Sidian's Aerodactyl. Like, where in the world did he get this literal dinosaur from? Did he revive it / find the old amber himself or did he steal it?

In perhaps the most pointless detail I've ever noticed, in the newest intro when Amethio turns and walks towards the other Explorers he walks towards Sidian. This surely means absolutely nothing but it makes the brothers theory person inside of me very happy.

I love it whenever we get to see flashbacks. Such, nice little windows into what characters were like. On that note tiny versions of the characters are like the cutest things ever. Little Liko and Roy? Adorable. I wish to see more.

I'm a little confused by the recent uptick in theories about Lucius's Entei being a Gouging Fire. Not that it wouldn't make sense, just that I don't know why this is starting now of all times and not when it was revealed he had an Entei in the first place.

I find myself amusingly torn on Rystal's name. On one hand it sounds cool when the characters say it but the more I say it to myself the weirder and less like a name it sounds.

You ever think about how Liko's team is all female (minus Terapagos, gender not confirmed), Roy's team is (most likely) all male, and Dot's team is a mix of both genders? Doesn't mean anything, I just think it's neat.

In a similar vain, Quaxwell is the only Paldean starter Pokémon to still have one of its starting moves, being Water Gun. The other two have entirely new move sets since they first appeared.
