michael's... well, eventual history with arson did NOT actually start with the restaurants— he dealt with feelings of pyromania ever since he was young. of course, that had its place in his insistence on rebelling and causing problems in general, but he also saw it as almost relieving. finding stability in destruction, taking what little feelings of autonomy he could get when the environment he grows up in makes him feel so out of control. he found a lot of satisfaction in the thought of burning it all away.

as a teenager, he did in fact set multiple things on fire that he probably shouldn't have because of this, and just for the hell of it ( pre bo83 he was also often looking for a reaction anywhere he could get but i digress ). it's nothing compared to the gratification of burning down fazbear's fright, though.
