Happy Birthday!!! i hope you are enjoying it with your cat and a favorite puzzle and maybe some snow?
..and wild guess (probably wrong) at your age. i think you rb'd that you saw 311 /20 yrs ago( i barely give anyone under the age of 18 credit for having the good taste to like their music)...you were mature enough to respond when i misinterpreted a comment you made and we cleared it up ( maturity) and you mentioned myspace once and that was popular until early 2000's...im guessing 36??
and my favorite chill 311 song
I love that very measured, rational response there. And I will treasure that guess of 36. I am, however, at that very special, tender age of 40 today! 🎉

georgina's book Advanced Ocular Science has the following table of contents
Introduction 1
Basic Ophthalmology 105
Nearsightedness and Farsightedness 279
Blindness 311
Itchy Eyelashes 398
Damaged Pupils 501
Blinking Problems 612
Winking Problems 650
Surgical Practices 783
Glasses, Monocles, and Contact Lenses 857
Sunglasses 926
Hypnosis and Mind Control 927
Which Eye Color Is the Best One? 1,000
the book is one with stylistic consistency, as we know
Immediately, of course, Violet saw that chapter twelve would be the most helpful, and was glad she’d thought of looking at the table of contents instead of reading 927 pages until she found something helpful. Grateful that she could skip that daunting first paragraph—the word “daunting” here means “full of incredibly difficult words”—she flipped through Advanced Ocular Science until she reached “Hypnosis and Mind Control.” The phrase “stylistic consistency” is used to describe books that are similar from start to finish. For instance, the book you are reading right now has stylistic consistency, because it began in a miserable way and will continue that way until the last page. I’m sorry to say that Violet realized, as she began chapter twelve, that Dr. Orwell’s book had stylistic consistency as well. The first sentence of “Hypnosis and Mind Control” was “Hypnosis is an efficacious yet precarious methodology and should not be assayed by neophytes,” and it was every bit as difficult and boring as the first sentence of the whole book. Violet reread the sentence, and then reread it again, and her heart began to sink. How in the world did Klaus do it? When the three children lived in the Baudelaire home, there was a huge dictionary in their parents’ library, and Klaus would often use it to help him with difficult books. But how did Klaus read difficult books when there was no dictionary to be found? It was a puzzle, and Violet knew it was a puzzle she had to solve quickly.
somehow, the 13th chapter, which eye color is the best one is somehow ...... idk, does not quite fit with the rest? the other ones seem very professional. related to the topic. granted, considering it's written by georgina, i suppose it's likely it's just, which eye color is easier to hypnotize or something. that's ... fitting, for the book.
i mean. unless. it's an esme squalor contribution.
#georgina orwell#esme squalor#vera.txt#the miserable mill#eswell#otp: bisexual murder girlfriends#btw. the fact that it has 13 chapters ....

Siemka! Dzisiejszy bilans:
Zjedzone 311
Spalone aktywnie 529
Kupiłam w fajnej cenie wersje z napędem, dwoma padami i Dziewictwem Hogwartu. Dziś przyjechał do mnie Tata z Gryziem.
30 min jogi

utilitarianism & taurek's "should the numbers count"
I found Taurek's appeal to personal property and ownership an odd angle. Taurek's goal is to argue for space for personal preference as morally permissible in a utilitarian framework, and this one ploy for special obligation has left me puzzled. Taurek states on pages 300-301 that if David chooses to save his own life with the drug he owns, he violates no one's rights. Additionally, if the drug belonged to Taurek, he would violate no one's rights by deciding who within his preference to bestow the life-saving drug. This line of reasoning branches from personal ownership over the drug; none of the five other people who could benefit from the drug have an ownership claim over it. While this makes sense logically, I am not sure if there is a specific space within the utilitarian framework for the concept of ownership to have moral rights.
The way I understand ownership implies a special duty or obligation to the thing under someone's dominion. One has responsibility for its outcome, usage, well-being, etc. This view is similar to the view Taurek expresses in the case of the captain's contractual ownership over the resources needed to save islanders from a volcano (311). For me, the use of ownership in utility calculus within the utilitarian framework raises many questions because I do not believe that ownership in every case is supported by the intrinsic good of pleasure (ie "ownership" over another person or ownership over a pen).
1) does ownership have a different intrinsic value that should lend itself to moral consideration?
2) is ownership, because it is duty-bound, a motivational difference instead of a value contributor, so it should not count towards utility calculus but could render utilitarianism inapplicable?
My line of thinking stands that utilitarianism does not provide specific ethical protections for rights (ie right to life, right to privacy, right to vote, etc). They seem to possess an intrinsic quality (or multiple) that lay outside the scope of pleasure.
This plays into one of my main objections to utilitarianism: that it cannot uphold the rights we hold as necessarily good to respect.
