Rangi: but it was hard to put my attention onto romance with priorities and honor on the line, that and also my mother's reputation dawning on me, i always tried to keep my personal life hidden but, well, people found out, it spread to the whole school, it was- a terrible time.

Kyoshi: ...i had no idea

Rangi: its not a story i like to tell people, My past romantic experiences.. it never ends well. but you, kyoshi, your case is different, its like i've finally fallen in love for the first time.

i love them. anyways yea ive always thought about the fact that rangi really enrolled in a fire nation all-girls school. we all know hei-ran is okay with LGBTQ but we can't say the same for every other fire nation person, especially the competitive honor-bound students.

Rangi's a lesbian, she'd probably have crushes throughout the years she enrolled in the academy, at one point she'd probably even gotten as far as to date some, but the overall homophobic environment really makes it hard for her to dedicate herself, that, and she partially also doesn't want to sacrifice her training/grades for someone she likes. in any and all cases, she will prioritize herself first before her past lover.

However, with kyoshi. its not like that. No its not just because she's bound as the avatar's bodyguard. Rangi fell first, at first she expected it to just be another passing, shallow crush like how she used to, but no. They spent a lot of time together, covering eachother's backs, supporting eachother, it was mutual.

this was when rangi realized that Love remains an unfamiliar territory to the firebender. How Rangi would without a doubt sacrifice herself for kyoshi, go out of her way just to make sure kyoshi takes care of herself, she would run miles just to see her, to check up on her. all the sudden, kyoshi became a big part of her life.

And when they became lovers, Rangi couldn't be happier, she finally understood love stories and fairy tales like the tale of two dragons. back then she would think it is stupid to care for someone else before yourself, or go to such treacherous bounds in the name of love, but now she understands.

This is, Rangi's side of the story.

ADDITIONS: -28:00 On "We should normalize same-sex friends being affectionate, they don't have to be gay," I should have been clearer. HOMOPHOBIA is the reason for that stigma. Straight friends feeling like they can be affectionate in our society HAS to include normalizing LGBT+ people. -1:16:55 I should've said this more clearly: Will reminded Mike that who HE is, HIS unique qualities, make him worthy of love and make El love him, not dumb luck. And Will of course could convey that because Will loves the actual nerd MIke and everything he is. -1:17:06 Mike making El "not feel like a mistake" doesn't fit El, because she says that Mike looks at her "like I'm a monster, too". Nor did she "push you away because she was afraid of losing you". That's Will, not El. Mike felt love because Will was describing himself. -1:52:36 I forgot to mention that, in the original Nina opera, Nina's lover is ALIVE and DOES return. The Duffers changed the story so that Nina's lover does NOT return, to further suggest Mike won't return! -2:35:22 I'm kicking myself for not being more specific about Mike and Will being heroes in more than one way: I think the theme of bullying from s1 will return, with Will (and also Mike) having to face bullying for being boyfriends in Hawkins.

this reminds me of a story I love to tell over and over, the time I made a historical fumble in 10th grade. It was one of the last few days of 10th grade. I had just finished my exams and headed to the cafeteria to wait for the bus. As I stepped inside, a girl called me over to sit with her and her friends. A little bit of background, this girl has called me "The Pretty Girl" the few times I saw her during 10th grade. I don't know her. I didn't want to be rude and ignore her request, so I sat down at the same table she was at with a seat between us. I was feeling pretty nervous at this point because it was obvious she had a crush on me and I do like other girls it's just that I wasn't getting good vibes from her or anything. idk, I had complicated feelings. A little after I sat down, she looked me in the eye and said, "Can I have your number?"............ and i just stared at her.............. like the image above. I got autistic and fumbled it. The rest of the time, I sat there twiddling my thumbs with my head empty. It was so awkward, she barely tried talking to me for the rest of the time. I writhed in bed every night of that summer knowing I could've had a girlfriend. Maybe it was for the better since she kinda gave me bad vibes. idk. If you ever fumble a girl, just remember, I was given the opportunity to have a girlfriend placed in my hands and I put it down gently and ran away. You cannot fumble harder than I did.
