can you rant abt hiveswap and how it changes the per-established alternian lore and not in a good way. i hold no stake in this topic but i love to hear about worldbuilding differences and people complaining

oh my god i would loveeee too. well first of all the obvious stuff with how they seem to think the beta trolls were the stereotypes for their caste (NOT TRUE... very very untrue but ESPECIALLY untrue with like. jadebloods goldbloods and purplebloods who seem to get this the worst somehow)

i hateeee how they made jades preppy THATS KANAYAS THING.. AND SHES EXPLICITLY *WEIRD* FOR THAT. they literally mention it like over 20 times how kanaya is sooooo weird for liking fashion and dressing well and then. oh no i guess every jade does that actually whoops sorry! ToT and god do i even need to go into the terrible prevalence of the idea that "jadebloods are typically/instinctively nurturing" when that is textually not the case?

goldbloods all having double horns is not that big of a deal tbh but its really funny to me that they made that assumption when sollux is like. actively called a mutant for most of the comic. "oh yeah hes mutated and weird and fucked up and some of his body parts are doubled (cue dick jokes here)". like that was a thing for sollux but they just decided to say "well actually. thats just how all goldbloods are"

most purplebloods having a "clowny aesthetic" is fine with me honestly since theres an actual Profession of being a subjuggalator and presumably lots of purples are going to be wanting to go into that? but alllll of them being full on juggalo cultists goes directly against canon. its like. the difference between american lawmaking and christianity. yes the separation of church and state is like nonexistent here. but just because american lawmaking is an enterprise controlled by christianity doesnt mean that All Politicians/Cops are automatically christian. and definitely not the same kind of christian?? there are probably agnostic clowns, or clowns who are only into cultism for the aesthetic. even reformist vs. orthodox clowns. they may all be upholding the same systemic white christian status quo, but they doesn't mean they all fit into that niche themselves. if that makes sense?

and of course i've already made a whole post about how i hate the idea that olivebloods are all feral little rogues, since that makes very little sense in canon.

i would really love to do that full stream of the hiveswap and friendsim games just. going through all of their alternian stuff and explaining my thoughts on it and how it relates to canon... i could go on and on about this stuff for ages and get into way more than just caste stereotypes. i think i would need to reread all of homestuck first to make sure i wasnt just pulling shit out of my ass and was truly studied up though, lmao

Bloodlines Indigo - GHB

The Grand Highblood for the Makara edition of the Homestuck Bloodlines Zine. I based his teeth off of a combination of musk deer and warthogs. He was fun but tricky to do; I am not quite fluent in Blender, especially posing and the fancy modifiers and math and whatever, which was instrumental in this piece. With any luck I will be able to remember how I modelled his horns, since that will be a very useful skill in the future. It involved 3 parts, IIRC: modelling a small trisection, using a curved line to indicate the general horn curve and having the section repeat along it, and applying a spiral. There must have been a taper function used as well, I think that might also have been a curve? Looks like I have forgotten it all already! Oh well, I will simply have to re-learn it next time!! Bloodcaste Details (Purple)

Most Purples have very curly horns and hair, you see a lot more coily and textured hair, wider flat noses, bigger lips. Larger bodies- both being very tall fully grown and broad/chubby body types!

Amethyst

Generally smaller then the other two sub-types with more 'loopy' horns, thing spirals and spring/coil like shapes are common. Typically they look weaker then they really are, being either on the thin side of lacking the bulk of other highbloods. Amethyst is also the least common purple sub-type! Psyops are also generally connected to more negative emotions (Fear, rage or sadness on the more powerful end which, is very rare, and inconvenient feelings on the more common weak end. Itchiness, vague hunger or the sensation of touching wet gunk in your sink)

Jam

The most common sub-type, and also almost always on the 'stupidly super huge' side, Jams get TALL. they also tend to hit their adult growth spurt before their peers! most are quite fit and visibly strong. they also have high metabolisms during their active growing years- People joke about teen Jams eating everything in their hive and then some, for good reason. A growing Purpleblood might sit down and have 5 large pizzas just for a causal lunch, take a nap, wake up and have 3 more.

Aubergine.

Have a lot more pronounced tusks and claws. Darker skin is pretty common, not all over but generally in tougher 'patches' around the body- chronic pain is also common with this trait, a lot of patches form on the points or 'squishy parts' and can lead to some joint issues. Most with higher-end Psyops create or promote positive feelings! Heavily textured hair- usually around a 4a/4b.

(Note that most traits are merely common, not exclusive to that sub-type. example; Amethyst may have negative-related Psyops but one might have more Positive abilities, or a Aubergine might have a very sorrowful Psyop! its a pattern in the caste but not a set rule!

So clowns, amirite? What if a huge aspect of matespritship and pailing was the act of taking off one's facepaint? It's for someone you truly cherish, and it has to be sweeps after you have gotten together. You have to speak before about the future, and if it's something you feel is for forever, you take it off before you pail.

In a human sense, it almost represents marriage. The act of de-facing your own image to show the truth and purity underneath, along with the pain and trauma of the past, to coincide with the others, so they can only see you. It's a sacred ceremony, one that takes a lot of time and thought to go through with.

But unlike divorce, the other person won't be able to walk free. If the bond is broken, the only way out is to kill the other person or yourself. Only 2 people can know your true face.

GHB Sketch

Sketch for my GHB piece for the Makara/Purple edition of the Bloodlines zine. It was interesting trying to make him look Absolutely Massive while not straying into what I consider to be Zahaak or Maryam territory. And I think the end result, which is a mixture of jacked and twiggy, worked quite well in the context of what fanon thinks a Makara should look like, too.

Oscine Chrono - Witch of Time

⤷ Oscine is an ambitious troll with a love for glass art, including glassblowing and stained glass. He's pretty self-reliant and he pushes against the notion that some things are beyond control, even death. Especially death. He's the reason his session struggles for some time. He keeps trying to fix things by himself, without any help and he is incredibly stuck on trying to find a way to get his dead matesprit (Carina), whom died before they ever started their session, back but things keeps going wrong.

⤷ He's incredibly clever and creative and he likes to think outside the box. He thinks he can handle things just fine on his own, especially after godtiering. He and Selune butt heads over the inevitability of things. He's a little lost in his grief and it makes him reckless and a little dangerous.

⤷ He likes making mini sculptures with glassblowing. He creates them for fun and for sale, same with his stained glass windows.

Selune Miseri - Seer of Doom

⤷ Selune is a bit of a gloomy, quiet troll. She tends to fall into a bit of a "doom and gloom" mindset and she's been described as melancholic by some. She'll occasionally get high with her matesprit, Carina, leaving her a bit giggly and relaxed.

⤷ She has a hard time expressing herself emotionally at times and she sometimes goes a little too far into her pessimism and the inevitability of things, though Carina usually helps to balance her out a little and bring her back from that.

Aureli Snovae - Maid of Space

⤷ Aureli is a creative, curious troll with an interest in science. She doesn't care much for the fact that she's the heiress to the throne and she really doesn't want to be in charge of so many trolls. She doesn't think she can lead the way she's meant to, but she's unwilling to go down without a fight when the day comes and the current empress tries to kill her. Failure is not an option for her. She wants things to improve for those lower on the hemospectrum and she knows she can do something about it.

⤷ She likes being alone, though she does care for her friends and she will spend time with them. She can easily get lost in her head.

⤷ She has some complicated feelings for her closest friend, Howlen. She's not entirely sure if she's wanting feeling pale feelings or red flushed feelings for him, but she knows it's one of the two.

Howlen Carnis - Knight of Blood

⤷ Howlen is a somewhat stubborn, grumpy troll. He can come across as intimidating for those who might not know him well and he knows it. He keeps up a front for the most part, not wanting to be vulnerable or be seen as such. He's incredibly loyal to his friends and bonds and trust are very important to him.

⤷ He's especially protective over his close friend, Aureli. They have some complicated feelings there and he's fully aware that he wants to be in a matespritship with her. He only doesn't act on his feelings because he wants to be certain that she returns the feelings, and he knows she has enough on her plate as it is.

⤷ He hunts for food and he likes sharing his hunts (whether it's fur, teeth, bones, meat, etc) with his lusus and with his friends whenever possible. Hunting helps to relieve stress for him, but he can't spend all his time on that, so he also stress bakes.

Carina Sancti - Knight of Hope

⤷ Carina is a cheery, giggly troll. Her behavior typically is more on the manic side of things. She has a more formal way of speaking and it tends to show more clearly when she's high, since she's much calmer and relaxed then.

⤷ She's incredibly optimistic and can't bear to think of a world without hope. Selune, her matesprit, sometimes has to help bring her down a little to see things as they are and to clear her head.

Chrysa Topary - Heir of Life

⤷ Chrysa is a caring and bright troll with an affinity for plants and horticulture. She's witty and far too forgiving, radiating warmth. She finds peace in her greenhouse, where she cultivates trees and plants from all over. She sells plants and flowers, but she enjoys caring for them as well.

⤷ By the time the 'story' starts, she's not alive. She's a ghost and she has no way of communicating with her friends or her matesprit, Oscine, but she can see the turmoil he's going through.

⤷ Some of the glass on her greenhouse is stained glass, courtesy of Oscine. It helps to lessen the harsh sunlight on certain plants.
