So…I usually prefer to stay off of tiktok. But my band is starting to do the whole Social Media Presence thing, and tiktok is probably the biggest social media currently.
We recently starting posting parts of our songs from practice. The first video took off, over a thousand views within the first few hours. We got a hundred followers in a day with one video.
Being an openly all-trans band, I was not surprised when Lexi said that they had they immediately shadowbanned us after that. The second we got tagged as LGBTQ anything, our viewership vanished. Lexi tried to promote the video, and we were rejected for “violating community guidelines”.
You can very clearly see when we got banned. For a moment, before we were artificially suppressed, we started getting a small audience and great feedback. Then we went immediately into the crusher.
Tumblr media
Social media is a deal maker for upstarting creators. If you don’t have a massive following and interaction, no one will pick up your work. These algorithms can take that chance away from you.
Anyways, fuck you tiktok. If you want to support trans creators, if you do the tiktok thing, if you like hot jams and punk, give us a listen and tell us what you think!

What band is considered the best folk punk group of all time?
Not necessarily your favorite, but the overall best in your opinion or in the opinion of the general community or both. I must know.

Today I was reminded once again that you shouldn't neglect any section of the charity shop. Given my music taste its super rare that I come across any shirts for a band I like, however today in the men's t-shirts....
Tumblr media
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of The Damned at this point in my life (I'm nowhere near as into them as I am some other groups) but they are nonetheless an extremely important band for me, as they gave me one of those seminal moments you sometimes get with music where you know nothing is gonna be quite the same for you again after.
It was seeing them perform their song "Nasty" on the TV show The Young Ones. I knew of The Damned before this because my mum was a punk back in the 1970s and had played me some of their music, but before Nasty I had no real concept of goth music. Although strictly speaking The Damned aren't goth, by the mid 80s when that show was filmed they were leaning into that aesthetic very heavily with Dave Vanian's massive backcombed hair, frock coats and fangs. Most goths have a lot of respect for The Damned.
Throughout their performance I was 👀 👀 👀 and after that a whole world opened up for me.
I should probably share it here in case anyone hasn't seen it:
youtube
The shirt was £7 which is more than I'd usually spend on a charity shop t shirt, but how often does one find something like this? I couldn't leave it behind.
Its enormous on me so I'll have to do some resizing but I enjoy that process 😁
To balance things out, I also got a dress for £2. Muddy grey/green which is a colour I love and fits me perfectly! Great for an orphaned waif look.

PUNKS PLS HELP
Hi! Im kind of a puppy punk (i hope people actually use that term lmao), and im having trouble finding punk music. I've already got a pretty good amount of riot girl (the genre, not the band) on my playlist but i want to diversify it! Im just really frustrated, because every time i try to find more punk bands they're either pop punk, not punk AT ALL, or just not really my style. If the punk community on tumblr could give me some band/song recommendations I'd really appreciate it! I won't be too picky, but if you want specifics, im looking especially for anti-cop, anti-capitalist, anti-nazi, pro-queer, pro-jew, pro-cripple bands/songs. I'll link the playlist under the cut too :)

Hey, welcome to the local band Dropbox! If you want others to know about a little band that you love, but they’ve only ever done shows 10 minutes away from where you live and you don’t feel like doxxing yourself, here you go!

HOW TO SUBMIT A BAND
Tumblr media
FAQ:
Do you take “non western” bands?
Absolutely! But, if they’re not on western music streaming/pirating platforms, or their websites are not in English, I will be more limited in ways I can make them accessible. You would need to provide those links. I will tag with the town/city and country.
What counts as a local band?
To avoid the goddamn minefield this question is, if you’re considering submitting them, just go for it. If I don’t think it’s local enough, who cares. We’re here to share music, and if they have 5 listeners or 5,000 listeners, someone could enjoy their music. Though I will suggest, if you’d feel comfortable posting about them without feeling like you’re doxxing yourself, I’d suggest blogging about them on your main.
Can I submit solo artists?
Yep!
Is self promo okay?
As long as you disclose that you are part of the band, and you follow the general guidelines, go right ahead :)

I wish it was easy to find underground punk stuff where I live. if I saw a punk band with queer artists or just like a woman in the band at all in the town I live in, I'd get tickets so fast. idk if they aren't here or if I just can't find them, but if anyone has like tips on that stuff, please tell me. ik there are queer alt/punks here I see them but idk where the scene is. do I have to create the community????

There is a serious hole in alternative music. It rears its ugly head at every show we play and attend. Alternative music is at every level so male and able bodied. As a disabled femme fronted band this isn't our opening in the scene but a barrier to overcome. People want what they already see and do not look for anything stronger or harder than what is presented to them.
We want that void to become a platform, not a sinkhole where authenticity goes to die. Our music is supposed to be truth and expression and we will deliver every time.

I know this is a stupid conversation to have, but I've recently realized that I may have a really screwed definition of this and I need to compare with other punks, goths, metalheads and otherwise music lovers so LISTEN UP.
In your opinion, how much of a band's discography do you have to had listened to in order to claim that you listen to the band?
Because my whole life, if I found a band, I wouldn't claim to really know them at all if I hadn't listened to their ENTIRE discography- even if that was twenty albums. And I wouldn't listen to any other music until I got through it all. Only recently I kinda stopped doing that because it gets exhausting not being able to move on until I've heard EVERYTHING this new band I'm into has put out. Music became more of a chore than anything. But you also don't wanna be like "I listen to Pierce the Veil!" if you've heard three songs. Where's the line?
