Every few weeks i get a survey from my federal gvt that amounts to "do you think covid is a scam still" and "hey some peoples' lives are ruined by long covid. Do you know about this and do you care". And everytime i answer and i have to detail how horribly my life is affected by long covid and the lack of covid measures. Every 3 weeks. Since march. As i go through the horrors of having 0 control over my health, as I get worse and lose my autonomy and my ability to work. Knowing that most people in my country have apparently been answering "yes" and "nope" to the aforementioned questions since march given that things have gotten worse.

Anyway I think this is a kind of psychological torture and im entitled to compensation

when i hear "found family" in relation to an ensemble of fictional characters in media there's two different things that could be happening here.

often it's what i think of as forced family, which is like "i found myself in a situation with these people" but a key part of the trope is that, like most families of origin, they're stuck with each other and can't leave without taking extreme action. voyager's "found family" is a forced family. i'm watching m*a*s*h now and it seems that way too. in both cases there's an outside constraint where you literally cannot escape these people and so grow to love them as a result, often in a codependent or unhealthy way but you are closer to them than you will ever be to anyone who did not share this experience. you would sell some of them to satan for one corn chip but god help any outsider who tries to break you up or even understand the situation. sometimes you get lucky and there's a person or two in there that you would choose to spend every day with regardless of circumstance (but would you really? can you even tell for sure??). but also it's "i will never ever speak to you again as long as i live but i'm really bored so can you give me a ride to the 7-11 first."

meanwhile chosen family is more like star trek the next generation where they are placed in this group at random but there's no hostage element to it. any one of them could request a transfer at any time, but they never will because this community and group of people have become an inseparable part of their identity. in both cases they'd saddle up and risk their lives to save each other forever at any personal cost ("not to me, not if it's you") but forced family also contains the element of "i'll fucking do it but christ alive." not every ensemble fits into one or the other but i think it's fun to distinguish as a concept.

people have pointed this out before but I love how the death note jdrama highlights how needlessly cruel L is capable of being..... calling Light (and the other Kira suspects) early in the investigation to falsely accuse him of being Kira just to see how he'd react, taunting Light relentlessly while he was imprisoned and interrogated, and of course the mock execution. all while knowing no one can really stop him. the jdrama really said "btw don't forget this guy's an ASSHOLE"

As a Zouey hater who stopped liking him hella early on, I actually feel bad for him about how it played out with Nant. I was vindicated with the reveal cause I knew he was NOT the only one clean in this entire story (that's Puen), but at the same time, it wasn't Nant's story to tell about what Jason did to him. Jason needed to be brought down, but I'm not cool with the implication that Nant was in the right to want to reveal Zouey's rape. Especially when Zouey clearly doesn't want that to be publicly known (Nant was the ONLY person who knew). Zouey didn't owe anyone his story. He was already violated in the worst way a human can be violated, so no shit he lost the plot entirely while panicking knowing Nant wanted to publicize what happened as if it was his right to talk about what happened to his actual body.

I'm not excusing the role Zouey played in the kidnapping and the outright lying he did to everyone for months and I will never excuse what he did to Nont the entire time, but I get how Zouey was definitely panicking and in survival mode during this show.

(And technically, Zouey didn't kill Nant nor even really play a part in it. He's responsible for the kidnapping, obviously, but Phop killed Nant when he showed up to say goodbye to Nuth. That had nothing to do with Zouey, unless you count him trying to get Nant out of the country as being the cause, but technically Nant would have needed to get out of the country anyway cause he wanted to turn on Jason for everything, including the drugs, so he would have been on his kill list anyway.)

the thing about tumblr's propensity to pick one single white guy from a show and dump on him like he's satan (inevitably while ignoring Another white dude in the same show doing the same stuff but he's meow meow???) is that when i actually watch the shows, the guy is not Nearly as bad as everybody made him out to be and i end up liking him more than i would have had tumblr Not Done The Thing, bc after the build up of expecting them to be fuckawful and it not coming true the perspective on them is automatically more favourable than if i'd Not spent at least a year reading the strangely visceral hatred over what are usually just deeply bland characters made out of 4 different Dude(tm) tropes sewn into a trench coat

Dazai pauses, his fingers mere centimeters away from the flower. Normally, he wouldn’t hesitate to disobey, but something in Ranpo’s tone tells him right now is not the time to cause problems on purpose. “Why not?”

“Kunikida made it.” They hop off of their chair and stride over to where Dazai is leaning against the counter, reaching out towards the single rose in a vase half-filled with water. “If you touch it, it’ll just turn back into paper.”

Dazai frowns. He drops his hand back to his side. “Why keep flowers around if I can’t even touch them?”

“Uh, because that one isn’t for you? It’s for Chuuya, which you would know if you came out to eat breakfast with the rest of us this morning.”

“I wasn’t hungry!” Dazai folds his arms over his chest. “Anyway, where’s your flower? Or is Kunikida-kun just finally admitting he likes Chuuya best?”

Ranpo laughs. “Mine was made of chocolate, and I ate it already. Unfortunately, only people who eat breakfast get a flower.”

Dazai glares at them. He knows they’re only joking, and even if he isn’t, it’s a stupid thing to get upset about. But Ranpo has a way of getting under Dazai’s skin—often without really meaning to. And they aren’t the sort of person to openly apologize for such mistakes, though Dazai would be hypocritical if he held that against them.

But before he can snipe back with something far crueler than Ranpo deserves, he hears the door open and Chuuya calls out, “We’re back!”

“Don’t—” Ranpo starts, but Dazai is already running towards the door, leaving his cane behind. He’ll have plenty of time to regret it later, after he beats Ranpo to Kunikida and Chuuya.
