She was a former chemist before finding her place in hip hop. Man, where do I begin? The first time I ever heard of Psalm One might've been in 2006, when Death of a Frequent Flyer dropped. She was the first lady (& only one for awhile) of Rhymesayers, which is how I got put onto her, but she's now an independent artist doin' the damn thing all on her own. With clever wordplay, weight behind her humor, & poetic rhyming, she can be found spitting deep, vulnerable stories about life & relationships, to serious social commentary, being a voice for women (& women listeners), & even having fun with provocative topics of sex, sexuality, & going against the norm. She has been rapping her ass off & has released nearly 20 projects over the span of her career (includes a couple EPs under her other alias Hologram Kizzie + a project with Rapperchicks). She has toured the globe, headlining her own shows & has been a supporting act, but most recently she's been performing around the states & was previously in Europe supporting RA The Rugged Man & ICP. Some other things: She started off in the battle circuit (such as Scribble Jam); she has mentored the youth through an afterschool program, called Rhymeschool; she was a featured story on PBS; she hosted Rap Karaoke, in Chicago; she has a vegan discussion page & podcast, called @TheImmoralVegan; & I had the immense pleasure of interviewing her in CrayonBeats Magazine issue 4, in 2013, which was a big deal for me. EL TEATRO Y EL BOX SE FUSIONAN EN EL FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL CHIHUAHUA 2018

** La obra “Last Man Standing”, un simulacro donde actores interpretan a boxeadores para analizar la relación de las artes escénicas con este deporte

La puesta en escena ‘Last Man Standing’ se presentó con éxito dentro de las actividades teatrales del 14º Festival Internacional Chihuahua, obra con la que se enlazaron puentes entre el teatro, el boxeo y la sociedad mexicana.

El Teatro de Cámara Fernando Saavedra se convirtió en el ring donde se celebró la tan esperada pelea entre “El Gallo”, joven promesa del boxeo nacional, favorito de los promotores, al enfrentarse contra “ El Chacal”, actual campeón a punto de retirarse, y favorito de la gente. Esto ocurrió bajo la mirada de un pueblo que está sediento de espectáculo, en un sistema donde los intereses económicos lo rigen todo.

La obra, a cargo de la compañía Teatro Sin Paredes, forma parte de un proyecto apoyado por el Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA), y está dirigida por David Psalmon. Este trabajo escénico permitió la reflexión de las personas espectadoras, en relación a la idiosincrasia mexicana, el lado oscuro del deporte, sus ligas con el poder y corrupción, la ambición y el sueño que se esfuma a fuerza de jabs y ganchos.

La escenografía convirtió el escenario en un gimnasio de box con un ring invisible y al fondo una pantalla con imágenes de peleas reales. El montaje fue un simulacro donde actores y actrices interpretan a boxeadores para entablar una relación entre el box y el teatro, haciendo además que el público interactúe junto durante la obra al involucrarse en la trama.

Entre risas y emociones inesperadas, se hizo conciencia acerca de porqué este  deporte es tan popular ¿Será que el ring funciona como una perfecta alegoría de la sociedad mexicana? ¿Será que es un espacio de combate y de dolor que también ofrece la posibilidad de salir adelante?
