[hello! So, I’d been out of writing fanfiction for a LONG time. But! I’ve recently fallen in love with ‘The Owl House’ and it’s reignited my desire to write fanfiction! So, here is what is my first post on AO3 (I’m a Fanfiction.net survivor), since I decided to share it here as well since Tumblr’s getting a bit of a revival! Message me if you have any queries or wanna chat about it! Or, if you wanna read more, I’ll be posting more of this on here in the coming weeks, but on AO3 it is up to Chapter 35, so if you want the link to that, feel free to message and ask! Many thanks!]
The taste of iron was overwhelming Luz’s taste buds as the wind whipped through her hair. But, the sensation was very much so dwarfed by the open gash on her chest that was currently holding a steady flow of crimson dripping to the ground below.
At that moment, Eda was in Harpy form, and was holding Luz aloft while flying at top speed into the deepest parts of Bonesborough
“Ya know, it’d kinda be anticlimactic if something like this were to be the thing that takes me out. I really would’ve preferred if it was in a huge battle with the big ol’ evil mastermind, Belos,” the teen managed, before falling into a fit of coughs that splattered more blood into the winds.
“That’s right kid, that’s why you gotta stay with me until we get you to the Healers,” Eda said, forcing out the phrase, holding back the deluge of tears that was threatening to break through,” You can’t let your story end like this. You know I taught you better than that!”
Luz let out a frayed chuckle at that, and muttered,”Aww come on, Eda. Can’t you tell? I’m feeling better already. Might even run a marathon tomor-“
Luz was cut short for a hacking fit, spraying blood all over the harpy’s feathered chest, sending Eda into a more frenzied flight pattern.
“Hey, hey, kid, it’s okay! Take it easy and just focus on breathing. We’re gonna get you fixed up, and tell ya what: If you can run one tomorrow I’ll get up and run it with ya. No wings or anything!” Eda said, her voice filled with cracks.
Luz went silent for a moment, before she started to shake, and the tears broke through.
“Eda I’m not ready to go… I have so much I need to do… So many people I-“
Comfort the Owlet- preen the Owlet.
The Harpy’s thoughts in her head made Eda pull back the sweat-matted hair from in front of Luz’s face, and gingerly cup her cheek, “Luz, LUZ! You’re not going anywhere kid. They’re gonna fix you all up and we’ll be home for pancakes with King in the morning! I promise!”
Luz cracked out what looked to be a hopeful smile, before her eyes glazed over, and rolled into the back of her head, and her body began to seize.
“SHIT!” The harpy exclaimed, loud enough to wake half the town.
Eda steeled her resolve at this, and dove into a deep dive to pick up her speed, and somehow maneuvered her way through the streets, holding to this speed as if her life depended on it.
Well, not her life.
She carried that speed into the lobby of a larger building- not even stopping outside. Once through the tall open doors, she stopped herself with a powerful backward thrust of her wings, and immediately screamed for all the help she could get, laying the still seizing body of her apprentice on the ground, and cradling her head.
It was mere seconds before she had been swarmed with at least 6 healers, all getting Luz onto a gurney, and getting her vitals. They rattled off important question after important question- but Eda silenced them all when she looked at them and told them Luz was human.
They all stared at her, then at Luz, then to each other with shock on their faces. Then, a familiar face stepped between Eda and Luz.
It was a large, slate grey looking humanoid, with two ragged looking horns adorning his forehead. He wore small, wire-rimmed glasses, and had a deathly-serious expression on his face.
“Edalyn- has your apprentice ever had healing Magic conducted on her? She’s HUMAN! Hells, we don’t know what it could do to the poor girl. We certainly don’t have any human blood to transfuse, and at this point, I don’t know if we could d-“
“Trill, you better not be getting ready to tell me you’re going to do nothing, and just let her die,” Eda growled, her words dripping with the deadliest of venom.
“No, Eda. But…. If we are going to try anything that MIGHT have a chance to save her, it would have to be through healing magic- and STRONG magic,” the demon said, meeting Eda’s eyes with the same intensity,” So you need to make a call. You are her mentor, and guardian. Are you giving us permission to attempt large scale healing magic on your apprentice?”
Eda’s expression met Trill’s, and then it absolutely shattered to one of panic- which….. oddly disturbed Trill much more.
“Trill, I don’t KNOW. What if the Magic just slowly kills h-“
Eda was interrupted by another, more severe fit of seizures from her apprentice on the gurney.
“Eda, I need an answer. NOW!”
Eda froze like a deer in headlights, as she watched Luz’s convulsing body. She was snapped out of it when Trill literally smacked her across the face and directed her face back to himself.
“EDA, NOW! YES OR NO?” Trill demanded, holding her by the shoulders.
“YES!” She shrieked,” DO ANYTHING YOU FUCKING NEED TO!”
Trill nodded, a fire burning behind his eyes.
“We will do everything in our power to bring her back to you,” he promised, before nodding to the team to take her to the back. He pointed to one of the team members in particular and commanded,” Get the ArchMage, this is the highest priority. NOW.”
Trill followed up to the door as the team pushed Luz’s convulsing body through, and only looked back at Eda before passing through the door to offer a determined nod.
Eda nodded back, and then paused a moment, before fully collapsing, and succumbing to the breakdown that had been fighting to burst through. The administrators only watched as her large, bloodied, harpy form was wracked with sobs and wails as she laid in fetal position on the cold, unforgiving floor…

The original Gravity Falls pitches and pilot just dropped!!
(Link for those who want it)
For those who don't wanna look through all of it, here are some highlights I found!
Interesting changes from the pitch (What Alex Hirsch showed Disney to make them greenlight the show):
Stan’s secret was that he’s secretly protecting the townsfolk from weirdness, nothing to do with Ford. No mention of Ford in the pitch at all. Stan also wanted Dipper and Mabel to be his successors in this version.
Mabel used to be the unhygienic one instead of Dipper.
Wendy was brunette and didn’t work as the Mystery Shack cashier, instead selling veggie juice out of her van.
As such, Soos (Jesús in this version) worked the register in addition to his handyman job in this version. He was a bit less of a hard worker here, watching telenovelas on the job sometimes, but still loves his job and is extremely loyal to Stan.
Robbie was almost exactly the same, parents’ backstory and all, but there’s an interesting note that he occasionally clashed with Gideon in this version (which we never got in the final show)
Speaking of which, Gideon’s last name in this version was Garrymore instead of Gleeful.
Gideon used to personally harass and prank Stan, going out of his way to vandalize Stan’s stuff himself.
Manly Dan was always planned to be Wendy’s dad. In this version, he hates the idea that his hipster daughter prefers conserving the environment instead of chopping down forests
(For those who wanted more Wendy episodes, I’m surprised Hirsch didn’t use this as a conflict for one of them- it makes her interesting without costing any of her “coolness”)
Sheriff Blubs was originally Sheriff “Blumps”. Durland has the same name likely because Hirsch said he’s named after a real guy.
With no Ford and no Journal mentioned, episodes were originally very different-
“The President’s Cabinet/Irrational Treasure.” Instead of via the journal, Dipper and Mabel find a record of Quentin Trembley in a box buried in the yard. No Pacifica mentioned here.
“Secret Dungeon” Dipper becomes obsessed with a recalled arcade cabinet. Mabel must try and save him by finding the original high scorer.
“Thtupid Thursday” One of the many ‘Shining Twins’ episode concepts Hirsch wanted to do. Dipper and Mabel learn ‘twin telepathy’ from some creepy twins, and soon regret it.
“Periodic Mabel” Mabel invents her own element for the science fair and Dipper is jealous.
“Only the Clonely/Boyz Crazy” The exact same episode just without Candy and Grenda. Sev’ral Timez is called “ReelBoyzzz” in this version.
“Big Dipper” With surprisingly no tie to Little Dipper, Dipper asks a fortune teller to make him older so he can win Wendy over. But she makes him 22, so he and Mabel have to undo the spell.
“Sweater off Dead” Mabel buys an antique sweater and is possessed by the soul of the granny who last wore it. Stan is terrified by the spirit because she reminds him of his ex-wife Marilyn (Deep Edalyn Clawthorne lore???) so Dipper must “Swexorcize” his sister and save her.
“Teed Off/The Golf War” With no Pacifica, this was originally a Dipper vs Gideon episode- No Lilliputtians, either. Instead, the 13th hole is cursed and traps the cast in a time loop.
Now, changes from the Production Pitch (I’m guessing for when the show was already greenlit and this was a way to brief crew members on what the show would 100% be about)
Stan’s secret (likely the portal) and the journal are now set in stone.
Emphasis on continuity and character development. Nothing gets “reset” by next episode. All plot developments are permanent.
All character names and designs are locked in. Pacifica has now been added, as well as Waddles, Gompers, Lazy Susan, Candy and Grenda, and McGucket (No mention or hint at his past here)
Interesting to note is that there is still zero outright mention of Ford and Bill in this version, even though multiple episodes were seemingly in production at this point.
Manly Dan’s conflict with Wendy from the original pitch is still here. Making it even more mindblowing that we never got it in the show
Blubs and Durland are described as a little more playful instead of mean like in the original pitch.
All episode examples made it into the show with no changes this time. They are Tourist Trapped, Legend of the Gobblewonker, Fight Fighters, Boyz Crazy, and The Land Before Swine.

Eda to heal mother issues or family issues
Since this was vague it was hard to tell whether you wanted Eda x Reader so I ended up doing this!!
You got a new mama now
SUMMERY: Platonic! Edalyn Clawthorne x Abused!Adopted!Reader where Eda adopts you and you become King, Luz and Hunter’s sibling!!<33
WARNINGS: Mentions of parental abuse, child neglect and manipulation, in detail description of fresh wounds and PTSD. Angst to fluff
A/N: I had a few ideas for this but with the request I tried to stay vague. I didn’t use any quotes or describe the reader since I wanted you to be able yourself in their place, This is a short but hopefully sweet oneshot, if requested I might do a part 2!!Proof Read by myself!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sizzling drops of boiling water falling from the bleak sky were much quieter then the sound of two bare feet running through the forest. They didn’t stop moving ahead, not when they heard the sound of their mother screaming at them to return, not when the boiling rain fell to their exposed skin and not when their legs felt as though a knife was being dragged from their hips to their heels. They couldn’t stop moving, not for a single second. They had been running for what felt like days, but was simply a few hours.
The young child’s eyes glimmered with a small sense of hope as they saw a tall house come into a view. They staggered as they attempted to limp over and knock on the door but failed as the second they reached the wooden surface, they collapsed against the ground. The running finally caught up to them, and now they were hopelessly crying at some stranger’s door, wishing they had just stayed home and listened to their mother’s wishes instead of fighting back against her abuse. They should have asked father for help, but it’s not like he would have done anything, he probably doesn’t even know they exist.
As they tried to lay their back against the white concrete, they almost screamed in pain only now realizing just how many scolds their were on their back. They yelled out for help, shrieking sounds of a strained voice. With their shoulder against the wall of the house they heard a voice. A high pitched voice asking if they were ok in a not so gentle tone. As they forced their eyes to open and look at the being, they were met with a beady eyed owl demon who’s body extended from the door. They could barely make out a sentence before everything went black.
Tumblr media
“I couldn’t just leave them out there. The rain is going to be pouring for the next three days. That means NO ONE is allowed out. Not you, not king, not Hunter and certainly not this kid.”
As they slowly pried their eyes open they were surprised to be met with the sight of The Owl Lady, a human a small demon and a young witch. Did she want something from them? Then it clicked. They had stumbled to The Owl Lady’s house and fainted before help could get there, at least that’s what they thought, until the woman in a sleek yet torn red dress noticed them stirring and cut her conversation short and she hurried over and helped them sit up, making sure to avoid touching their now bandaged skin. They looked at the figure now sitting on the edge of the couch where they had been resting.
“You ok kid? I know the rains can be tough. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
They stared at her, confused and almost suspicious. Why was she helped them? Wasn’t she a criminal?
“Now take your time with answering but is it ok if I ask you a few questions?”
They merely nodded in response. She asked their name and they gave an answer with simply their first name. She then asked why they were out in the boiling rain for so long and without the proper protection. Just then it hit them that their mother would be searching for them at this moment. They struggled to answer, only being able to barely explain that they ran away after a fight with their mother. When Luz asked why they would run away over one fight they had to take a few deep breathes and gave their reply while clenching the blanket that wrapped around their legs and torso. They explained how their mother would abuse them and manipulate them and that night they were sick of everything and ran away before she could hit them.
Once they finished talking they looked over at the four individuals, all had gone quiet in the home. The only thing filling in the empty space was the sound of rain rolling off the barrier that covered the house. They looked down, disappointed with themselves. How could they open up and expose their deepest secrets to people they had just met? Suddenly as they spoke up they felt two pairs of arms wrapping around their body. Eda and Luz had hugged their sides and they could feel Luz’s tears silently dropping against their skin. And as they looked at Edalyn her eyes were clenched tight and she pulled the child closer and whispered into their ear.
“It’s ok. I’m here now and I’ll make sure that she never puts a single hand on you ever again.”

The Raven House (TOH swap AU)
I've already seen a few people create AUs on this concept, but I wanted to throw my two cents in after some thoughts on it. I will not be writing this AU, however, as it is inevitably going to involve LGBTQ content that I am not comfortable writing. That said, I'll be sharing the premise of the AU in case someone else wants to take a crack at it (I humbly request that this gets spread so that such a person may find it.
Here are the swap characters:
Edalyn Clawthorne (Head Witch Eda) - Head witch of the imperial coven, Edalyn is a powerful and eccentric witch. She likes to pull pranks on her peers and enjoys goofing off and having fun. However, this is all a front as she is struggling with the guilt of cursing her sister many years ago.
Lilith Clawthorne (Lily the Raven Lady) - A wild witch and the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles, Lilith is a calm individual who has an academic interest in the human realm, using the portal door to obtain human artifacts to study their culture. Behind closed doors, she struggles with her raven beast curse.
Camila Noceda (Empress Belle) - Empress Belle of the Boiling Isles maintains peace and security in the demon realm with her coven system. However, her mask conceals the anger within. Hurt by the betrayal of her husband who left her for a witch and the loss of her daughter who died on the Boiling Isles, Camila blames the demon realm for both misfortunes and plans to wipe out everyone with a draining spell.
Philip Wittebane - though he is a strict parent, he cares deeply for his nephew who he adopted after the death of his father, Philip's brother, Caleb. He has a hard time connecting with his nephew but tries his best regardless, not wanting to let his deceased brother down again.
Luz Noceda (the Amber Guard) - the Empress's right hand girl (and secret daughter), Luz is actually a grimwalker, created by a grieving Camila wanting to have her daughter back again. Though the Amber Guard does not know she is a grimwalker, she is aware of her mother's plans to erase the demon realm on the Day of Unity. Sadly, though she loves her mother very much, her mother has become detached from her daughter after repeatedly watching her die and brought back to life, to the point the grimwalker is now seen as disposable.
Hunter Wittebane (the human) - Nephew of Philip Wittebane, Hunter is a curious and innovative child who became cold and distant after the recent death of his father. Following an argument with his uncle, he runs out of the house and stumbles across the portal to the demon realm and takes up an apprenticeship with Lilith, who keeps the human around for his knowledge on the human realm. Philip is initially uncomfortable with Hunter being in the demon realm, but caves and allows him to stay, figuring its a chance for him to make new friends and have the courage to explore.
Vee - Lilith's basilisk roommate, Vee is a sweet and kind girl who initially dislikes Hunter for his sour attitude, but then feels sorry for him after hearing about his family troubles and decides to be the sister he clearly needs. Despite Empress Belle never publicly declaring the basilisks to be a danger to residents of the Boiling Isles, her Imperial Coven secretly kidnaps and experiments on basilisks, and so Vee is staying with Lilith at the Raven House for protection.
King - a baby titan demon, Philip is initially unsure what to do with King. His discovery of King, who he mistakes for a "weird dog," is what lead him to find Hunter in the demon realm. He isn't entirely sure what to do about the small guy, but he keeps him around so he doesn't feel so alone with Hunter out of the house.
Hootsifer (Hooty) - Empress Belle's castle demon, he is in charge of maintaining and protecting the castle of the Empress. Arrogant and annoying, no one really likes him but they keep him around because of how powerful and how good at his job he is.
Kikimora (Kiki)- Lilith's housekeeping demon, she isn't particularly powerful, but she is cunning. She and Lilith don't always get along but they respect each other (though, Kiki feels everyone could treat her with a little more respect). She is annoyed with Hunter being brought on board, expecting him to be another mess maker to clean up after, but she is pleasantly surprised to find the house actually being tidier with him around. Though she vehemently denies it, the human kid is growing on her.
This is what I have. Message me what you think or if you want any extra details. If you decide to run with this idea, feel free to change whatever you decide.
Later!

Edalyn Clawthorne: Hogwarts AU
Tumblr media
Edalyn Clawthorne is a Pureblood witch that was born on the 18th of June 1959 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1970, being sorted into Gryffindor house.
She has a Blackthorn wand with a Phoenix Feather Core.
Her Patronus is a Barn Owl.
Her favorite subject was Defense Against the Dark Arts and her least favorite was History of Magic.
She was a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team from her fourth year onward and became the captain in her sixth.
Confident and sassy, Eda is best described as rebellious, with Luz calling her "surprisingly foxy for her age". Her vast skills and aptitude in witchcraft give her a brash streak, as she proudly declares her power and is openly defiant of authorities, going as far as knocking an auror unconscious and flying off to avoid getting caught.
Unlike her sister Lilith, Eda is vehemently anti-authoritarian, having little to no respect for laws and authority in general. She refuses to get any legal jobs because she views them as crooked for the limitations they place on magic. She is also not a fan of the educational system for similar reasons, bemoaning its reliance on "blind obedience" and "pointless busywork".
Eda is described as the sort of teacher that would not only throw someone into the deep end, but also set the entire body of water on fire. Eda has an odd view of how a good apprentice should act; she is very proud of Luz for getting detention for the first time, reacting the same way when Luz convinces her to teach new spells by appealing to her vanity.
It's shown that she has a caring side to her and she is willing to protect the people she holds most dear, such as when she protects Luz multiple times, being close to a mother figure for her, as well as swallowing her pride when she realizes that she's being unreasonable and that Luz is miserable not being around her new friends and only having a limited palette with learning about magic, and enrolling her at Hogwarts. She also deeply cares about Lilith despite them both being on different sides of the law. It also seems she is afraid of losing her friends, and as such tries to ignore the idea of them leaving.
Eda was also shown to be very forgiving, shown when she decided to forgive Lilith for cursing her and even letting her live with her after seeing how sorry she was and how she willingly shared the curse with her to make amends, although she doesn't miss the opportunity to remind her sister about what she's done through some playful banter, adding to her guilt.
She is also very protective of her family and loved ones, but in her desire to keep them out of harm's way, Eda tends to drive people away, either to protect them from her curse or anything else, like she did with Raine and her parents; such distance lasted for years. She tried doing the same with Luz, wanting her to run away from the wizarding world to protect her from Belos' looming threat, and her insistence caused a fight between them, which strained their relationship for a little while.
For all the distance she tries to keep sometimes, Eda always means well, and has shown much patience and forgiveness. When Luz was believed to have been killed by Belos, despite going through a fit of rage in her grief, she gently pushed the Collector away from her, not wanting to take her anger out on the child and showing she didn't blame them for anything, wanting to focus her rage on the real cause of it.

I write about a character per day
Day 12: Edalyn Clawthorne
Owl lady. Anarchist. Mother of two.
There's just so many things I want to say about her.
I think Eda's life before Luz was summed up quite well with her own quote: "It's my power, kid. And before you showed up, I spent my whole life wasting it." That goes to show how impactful Luz is on Eda's life, and that's not the only character Luz had a positive spin on (I'm considering writing about Luz after W&D).
Before Luz came, Eda's life, which we can speculate, was selling human garbage to the Isles' citizens, pickpocketing, do anything in order to buy potions to not let the curse affect her, while also running away from the Emperor. Even with King and Hooty, and previously Raine and Lilith, her life was probably not as adventurous as when Luz came. Maybe, maybe not, and I wished we could have seen more of Eda's life before Luz, but we won't. It's fine, because everything she did with Luz and everyone in the house was awesome. Even the swap thing, yeah that's my controversial take, I think Once Upon A Swap is a good episode. It's a good episode in a show full of great episodes. But anyway, the point is, Eda had really used her power for good, even pushed her hardest to save Luz, and she's proud of it. That moment for me was like losing a family member, one who only been around for a few months. And it all started with a little crown. And speaking of that...
Her relationship with King was also blooming. Before Luz it wasn't that exciting, as they probably just did their things together. But with Luz and later on Lilith, King was more open about her story, only to find out it was fabricated by Eda. But what was his response after Eda said so? Asked her to adopt him. It's one of the few times Eda ugly cry throughout the show, and it's fine. It's beautiful. Eda was now a mother of two, of a human and a Titan. It got so much better, for the very few scenes in For the Future they bonded together over a mutual feeling. King hugged Eda's leg in the most emotional way possible.
Mother of two, but ran away from her own mother? Alright now that's an interesting shift. But like I said when I talked about Gwen, which is another niche character I also enjoy a lot, I'm so glad they communicated and made up the past. I can understand avoiding parents, the lack of communication resulted in avoidance, while your parents just want to do the things they think it's best for you.
How about her sister? Lilith probably has the second greatest redemption arc in the show in my opinion, after Hunter. It only took a few attempts, an all out battle, putting her sister at the risk of life, and a pain sharing spell for a Lilith redemption. Once again, a little lack of communication between them, had lead to a rift that took decades to fix. It's really sad, but I'm glad they're together to right all wrong, and learn magic together.
I think it's amazing that Eda managed to make peace with the Owl beast, something that had been a pain for her that she can't get rid of for 20 years. This is a really important lesson. Sometimes, you need to make peace with things that hurt you, especially those you can't get rid of. One lesson that Steven Universe had taught that no one seems to be able to grab. Eda got so much better, basically regained her power in one of the most stylish way possible.
The curse was an indirect reason that caused her to break up with Raine. Raeda is one hell of a beautiful relationship. I've talked about Raine's side before. Eda was the one who saved Raine's crew from the Emperor, who sacrificed to get a sigil for Raine's plan, and visited puppet Raine. Eda was impressed by Raine from the first look, from the first drink, and the rest is history.
I think this next part is my favourite of Edalyn Clawthorne. It's her desire to rub in on Emperor's face, but more importantly, to protect all wild witches left. An incredible anarchist. And in the most creative ways possible, including body swapping her own sister (see this is why I will defend Once Upon A Swap). With or without power, she is a legendary rebel. Someone who had built her name as the most powerful witch on the Isles, for managing to escape the police state from the Emperor without fail. No power, no problem. She will still be sneaky, be smart, and having absolutely none of it with the Emperor. She's not a rebel who just want to cause chaos, she's an anarchist who will stand up for the right when she needed to.
I love Edalyn Clawthorne. She's simply the coolest witch on the isles, without a competition.

Hey dude, I enjoy your relationships between palisman headcanons greatly, do you have any more? Have a lovely week :]
Hello! Thank you for the ask. I do enjoy thinking about the Palismans and their bonds with each other and their respective witches.
I think it first started with the Clawthorne family and their Palismans. I just liked thinking of how Owlbert and Lilith’s Palisman were opposites in as Owlbert is the straight forward calm one while Lilith’s Palisman is a clever little jokester. It’s more essentially the opposite of Eda and Lilith’s sibling bond. I learned that Ravens were clever tricksters, and Lilith’s Palisman’ design really brought the forefront of incorporating this into their personality. It just really got me thinking of how Owlbert would watch as they tricked people with their dorky expression.
As for with the parent Palismans, Owlbert was fairly close with Dell’s Palisman as they thought they were so cool and dedicated to Dell. After what happens to Dell’s eye, they watched as how his Palisman tried their best to be a good seeing eye Palisman. They may haven’t seen each other in thirty years, as Owlbert had to go be with Eda and comfort her, watching the yellow Cardinal be dedicated to their witch greatly inspired them to be caring and loyal to Edalyn. No matter what.
Oppositely, Lilith’s Palisman and Hawksly not initially close, as the elder Palisman finds Raven penchant to bother his witch to be grating due to her obliviousness towards Lilith, to which Hawksly can agree as they find her personality endearing but oblivious. Hawks, like Ravens, are prominent in Aboriginal and Indigenous culture. Like the White Raven, they represent intelligence and clear vision—in terms of Celtic mythology, but Hawks also represent freedom, creativity and messengers. Which is interesting because by proxy Hawksly and Lilith’s Palisman should get along, but because of Gwendolyn’s obliviousness which puts Hawksly at a difficult position because they think, by the belief that Hawks belief of not changing someone, doesn’t agree with her pushing to cure Eda. They are going to get his own post to discuss how they are just the mostly morally troubled Palisman ever.
On a more lighter note, I think before the family grew apart, the Palismans, like their witches used to do, practice nesting and prefer to be close with each other. They would have a large nest to stay in if they weren’t perched above the head board of their witches’ beds, overlooking them protectively. Hawksly would be enough for Dell and Gwendolyn if Dell’s Palisman wanted to keep the younger ones company. Though after the children left, and Hawksly had to be loyal to Gwendolyn and help her on her “quest” to cure Eda, Dell’s Palisman remained with him. Alone in the house or on work business. They all barely remember the last time they were actually a family together.
I think like their respective witches, they deserved a close bond because they were used to being around each other and also having small squabbles like with their competition of who has the best pile. After both Eda and Raine both got Palisman, Owlbert probably spent time with Raine’s Palisman. Now that I am thinking about it…it’s odd that even before Raine decided to join a Coven, we never see their Palisman. Now I am just thinking of how Owlbert and Raine’s Palisman would glance exasperatedly at each other at these lover birds.
Eda, after flirting with Raine: I totally nailed it, Owlbert. I was cool as ice.
Owlbert, after watching Eda being a blushing fool for an hour: Yeah…Cool as can be…
*Elsewhere.*
Raine: I completely screwed it up, didn’t I? I am such a bumbling fool.
Raine’s Palisman: You’re an adorable fool and you did amazing! I’m pretty sure I saw her be a blushing mess too, if it helps.
Raine, chuckling: Thank you.
Outside of the Clawthornes, I think it’s interesting how Flapjack inherited Caleb’s protective qualities because when you are introduced to them, they are with the other abandoned Palismans. Do tou think they’re protective of Clover, Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo and Ghost before they found their witches and reconnected after Hunter joined the current Hexside gang? They are probably one of the oldest of the group and were trying to live up to Caleb’s values. Even if they couldn’t save him. They would always look out for the younger Palismans with a passion, making sure they are ok, bringing lost ones to the Bat Queen. After being apart of the current Hexside Gang with Hunter, they took initiative role of looking after their fellow Palisman friends as Hunter became more protective of his friends. They both probably took a long time to warm up to others because Flapjack was alone for a long time and still upset of their failure to protect their witch. Hunter because no one ever trusted him or berated him. They both found new families amongst their friends.
Also was Clover abandoned by their previous witch? Did they not seem like what they wanted? Or did their previous witch die and they were all alone? Is Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo shy? Do they tend to hide when they feel as though their disappointed their witch? Are they a people pleaser?
I just think Palismans are cool and it’s interesting how much symbolism as well as animal traits you can play with. I also wonder if you can do Palisman angst because exploring what they think they are supposed to be or their beliefs being tested as the Boiling Isles tests their witches fascinating to me. There’s just so much you can explore.
Thank you for sending in the ask. I hope you have a nice day/evening.

Viviane Sinoe
Tumblr media
New OC drawings for Blue Guard AU!
Gender: female
Pronouns: She/her
Sexuality: Biromantic, demi-sexual
Age: deceased, 123 at time of death.
Species: Witch
Clan: Sinoe Clan
Alliances: Clawthorne Clan, Vampire Clans
Palisman: Cinnamon, a Fox
Family: deceased parents, deceased grandparents, Carlyne Nazik(adopted sister) Caleb Wittebane(husband, deceased) Amaryllis Sinoe (daughter, deceased), Oriana Sinoe-Clawthorne (daughter, deceased), Styrmir Clawthorne (daughter in law, deceased) son(deceased) Filomena Sinoe(descendant), Sunniva Sinoe (descendant, deceased?), Edalyn Clawthorne (descendant), Lilith Clawthorne (descendant), Gwendolyn Clawthorne (descendant) Dell Clawthorne (Descendant)
Viviane Sinoe was a witch who lived in the Savage Ages of the Boiling Isles, she was in her twenties at the time the first humans came to the Isles. She and her adopted sister, Carlyne, were the first to encounter the humans.
The picture in the top left corner is Viviane when she's mad at Carlyne for teasing her, the picture below is a close up of her Palisman, Cinnamon, attached to their staff and below that is Viviane blushing while asking Carlyne about a crush she has.
In the bottom right corner is Viviane and Carlyne hanging with each other and doing sibling stuff. Above that is Cinnamon detached from the staff. In the middle is a full picture(minus feet cause I refuse to draw those) of Viviane.
The colors in her hair are the Sinoe Clan colors, a signal to other witches of her family and Clan so as to not be mistake for another witch. The color pattern on her hat signals which part of her clan she's from, in her case Viviane was of the main branch of the clan. (Carlyne has these colors painted on her shell btw)
More info under the cut ⬇
I've changed a lot of this stuff so ignore it
The small stick she's holding is a Glyph Quill, the predecessor of spell circles and training wands in modern times. Glyph Quills were used to help witches command the magic around them in use with the magic they had inside them, witches could do magic without the Quill or Palisman staffs by commanding the islands magic but Quills and staffs allowed them to use their own magic and not be completely reliant on the island.
Witches used Glyph Quills to draw out the Glyphs for spells in the air instead of on something physical that would disappear into it. They could still write the Glyphs without the Quills but it was considerably harder since their Bile sacs haven't developed enough to be the independent from the Isles' magic at the time Viviane was alive.
Vivi and Carlyne encountered the Wittebane brothers and taught them about the island and magic. She was very interested on one of the brothers, the brother that was more interested in the isles and it's magic than returning to the human realm.
Viviane had children in her early thirties, two daughters and a son, her son died as a child due to the wars of the savage ages. This loss lead to her trying to stop the fighting and mediate disagreements between rival Clan Alliances.
She and Carlyne were very successful in this and got the powerful Claw-Thorn, Light, Hazel and Nox Clans to join them, she also united with several smaller clans to protect them and joined with the Palisde, who had a centralized government far before witches, and together, The Dawn Alliance laid the foundations of a stable society that maintained their old ways while allowing new ones.
What the Dawn Alliance did was very different from Belos's approach to uniting the isles, the Dawn Alliance was welcoming and embracing of different ideas and respected different ways of thinking and never forced anyone to join them since they understood that would cause more conflict with other clans.
Other clans of witches and demons copied the basics of the Dawn Alliance model and for a time there was relative peace on the isles, most people do not know about this as of the coven age of the isles since Belos thought it would weaken his position.
Viviane was a very important and influence witch for the rest of her life, regarded with respect by all clans, even rivals because of her power and dedication to her people, who she defined as anyone who might need help. She died at the age of 123, passing the leadership to her daughter, who in many ways followed in her footsteps.
The Dawn Alliance persisted into the next era of violence in the Savage Ages, which started again because of natural disasters and panic due to new magic discoveries. The Dawn Alliance became a looser connection between the clans and Palisde and is still around in the coven age, though now it is comprised of the Palisde, a branch of Hazel Clan and Nox Clan and very obscure.
Viviane's descendants were watched over by Carlyne, who remained dedicated to her sister's family and tried to preserve what her sister had built for the Isles. Sunniva Sinoe is the last Sinoe of Viviane's lineage that Carlyne knew of and the first of Belos's personal Guard.
Viviane is currently looking down at the Isles from their afterlife, cursing Belos's name for fucking up everything she built and doing the exact opposite she did. She's also currently trying to haunt Belos.

This was super fun to draw! I love how easy it is to draw witch ears and all the things I can do with them and her hair was super fun to draw!
If you see any similarities between Viviane and other characters from the owl house, keep those in mind, it'll be important later😏
Also new Owl House episode was awesome! I really liked it!
Anyway have a great day!
VJS out!

Royal Pain Theory
Been getting really, REALLY into Owl House lately, and I’ve noticed that they put a lot of hints- big and small- That Eda and Lilith are directly related to Emperor Belos. First and foremost hint is Eda’s name. As an Etymology nerd, I LOVE how names in Owl House carry a LOT of significance, and you can really see this with all the characters thus far. “Luz” is “Light,” which is the first spell Luz learns and her signature spell. “Noceda” is “A Field of Nut Trees” which... sums up Luz’s personality pretty well, tbh. XD
“Amity” is “Friendship” and “Blight” is a disease that is visited upon plants, so her first name is likely an allusion to the bond that we see growing between Luz and Amity, while her surname is significant due to her being a long time bully to Willow. Also Willow herself has an interesting name, because it’s a nod to her passion for plants AND because in Floriography the Willow represents forsaken love, which is likely about her lost friendship with Amity. Even Gus is getting in on that action, because he’s been noted to have skipped a grade and is a self proclaimed showman, so it’s pretty appropriate for him to be called “Great and Magnificent.”
As far as the Clawthorne sisters go, this also seems to ring true, especially if my theory hold water. Clawthorne is an obvious play on the word “Hawthorn,” another plant. And, in Floriography, the hawthorn is plant that represents balance, duality, and protection, likely in regards to the Clawthorne sisters and their relationship with each other. Lilith’s name means “Belonging to the Darkness,” which is likely due to her being part of the Emperor’s Coven. And Edalyn means “Noble” aka a member of the ruling class.
(It’s also worth noting that Belos is a title rather than a name, by the way. And he’s basically calling himself Emperor Emperor, which makes him the Moon Moon of the Boiling Isles)
Other than the names, though, there’s other hints to consider as well. Specifically, how Eda looked dumbfounded in Something Ventured, Someone Framed when Principal Bump demanded that she answer for all the mischief she made and indeed, the fact that so many of her pranks went uncorrected for as long as they did seems to imply to me that she got off scot-free, which seems to contradict the way that we’ve seen other him punish other characters far more severely for comparatively minor transgressions. This suggests that something or someone prevented him from coming down too hard on Eda when she was younger.
Then there’s the fact that Eda scoffs at the idea of a higher destiny and “being chosen” in Witches before Wizards, which was done in a way that, to me, reads a bit as someone who had to deal with other people trying to decide her life for her and got tired of that crap FAST. There’s also her allusion to her parents at the end of Covention where she basically implies that, whoever they are, they are even worse than Lilith is when she’s the leader of the most powerful coven in the land. And the most recent hint comes from Sense and Insensitivity, where Eda refuses to ask Emperor Belos to help her with her curse purely because she doesn’t want to owe him anything and, instead of calling her out for being so stubborn that she’s putting her life at risk, Lilith looked sad and a little resigned to hear Eda say that. This is implying that Eda knows the Emperor on a personal level, and knows him well enough to hold him in contempt.

A Midnight Talk
Please Reblog! And comment! Reblogs and comments fuel my writing!
Lilith Clawthorne groaned and threw an arm over her eyes. Sleeping on her sister’s couch in the Owl House was about as far removed from her previous life as the head of the Emperor’s Coven as possible. The couch was short, lumpy in strange places and couldn’t hold a candle to her massive four poster she had in her chambers in the Emperor’s Castle. She wondered idly as she struggled to sleep if she should just build a nest like Edalyn had, now that she shared the Owl Beast curse.
With a final groan she sat up. Sleep apparently wasn’t going to be happening tonight. Despite how tired she was, she could feel the curse bubbling under her skin. Was this how Edalyn felt all the time?
She pulled herself to her feet and began wandering the bottom floor of the Owl House. She stepped over and around the piles of human trash her sister had accumulated. How much of this was the Owl Beast driving her to collect things that glimmered and shined and how much of this was Edalyn just trying to survive as a cursed wild witch on the wrong side of the law?
Edalyn had potion ingredients, spell components and weapons of all kinds scattered everywhere. Was this the life of a wild witch? Having to hoard the things you need to protect yourself?
Lilith found herself eventually back in the living room looking at her sister’s wanted poster, it was hung in a place of honor where anyone who entered the house couldn’t help but see it. And yet, it filled her heart with sorrow. Edalyn’s first crime was merely being wild, being cursed, the rest came from her life in exile. There should never have been a need for her to live like this.
She turned away from the poster and found herself climbing the stairs. She crept up the steps, not wanting to wake anyone else. The creak of each step was hidden in the groans and creaks as the house itself shifted and settled, as if Hooty himself was shifting in his sleep.
Lilith was about to sneak past the room she knew Luz slept in when a muffled cry from within made her pause. She hesitated for a moment in her uncertainty, before another muffled cry drove her to open the door. She was greeted by King’s wide eyes as the demon looked at her, before returning his attention to the still sleeping human.
Luz was covered in sweat, tossing and turning in her sleep. Lilith stepped to the girl’s side, leaving the door open behind her, glancing at King as she did so.
“She’s have a nightmare.” King explained, unnecessarily.
“What do you normally do when she has nightmares?”
“Wait for it to pass. Or go get Eda.”
Luz began calling out quietly in her sleep.
“Eda!” Luz cried. “No. Eda, your magic!”
Lilith clamped her eyes tight for a moment. The human was having nightmares about Edalyn’s transformation. The transformation Lilith had caused. She opened her eyes then carefully stroked the girl’s hair.
“It’s ok, you’re safe. Eda’s safe.” Lilith continued to croon softly to her as she stroked her hair, until she slowly settled in her sleep. She picked up King and set the already dozing demon on her chest which helped settle her further.  When it looked like she safely past the nightmare, Lilith made to leave the room, but froze as she saw her sister outlined by the light in the hallway.
“Edalyn! I-” She clamped her mouth shut as her sister put a single finger to her lips, then nodded her head towards the hallway.
Lilith followed her sister out of the room, then down the stairs to the couch. They sat together for a silent moment, Edalyn’s arms staying crossed over her chest. She seemed as lost in her own thoughts as Lilith was.
“Eda, I-” Lilith jumped as Edalyn whipped her head to face her at her words. The movement was far more owl like than she was even aware. “I never asked, after you were cursed, what you went through.”
Edalyn turned away again. She glared at the far wall, not truly seeing it. Though if she still had her magic Lilith would have been willing to bet that the wall would have combusted from the force of her glare.
“The first year was...difficult.” Eda said. Lilith couldn’t imagine a greater understatement. “I spent more time that year as the Owl Beast than I did as myself. I know I-” Edalyn hesitated, turning away. “I know I hurt people during that time. When I finally came back to myself I was at the Knee. The magic there helped me change back.”
“It was there that I was able to learn more about wild magic. I was able to create my first spells outside of the Coven system. I even managed to carve my Palisman there by myself.” Edalyn whistled softly, calling Owlbert from his perch on her staff. The owl palisman settled on her shoulder and nuzzled her cheek. “I knew I could never go home. Our parents…” She started idly scratching Owlbert’s head. “Our parents never would have let me come home like that. And I couldn’t finish school either. So I taught myself everything I needed to know.”
“I made money off my potions. I found my first trash slug and managed to start selling human rubbish. And in that time I learned to keep an eye out for tricks. There were people who hurt me, or wanted use me. Some of them I even dated. But I beat them all! Now look at me! I was the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles! I had my elixir, the Owl House, Hooty, eventually King and finally Luz. Sweet dear Luz.”
“Eda, I’m sorry-” Lilith started before Edalyn whirled to face her.
“I can forgive a great many things Lilith.” The way Edalyn said her name made it feel almost like a slap to the face. “But there are two things I will never be able to forgive you for. I don’t blame you for putting the curse on me. That was short sighted mistake of a child. But I’ll never forgive you for taking so long to address what you did. And I’ll never, never forgive you for threatening Luz.”
Before Lilith could even think of a reply to that they were interrupted by the rapid beat of small feet down the stairs. King poked his head around the corner, his eyes wide with fear again.
“Luz is having another nightmare!” He squeaked. “It’s a bad one.”
Edalyn rose without a word and climbed the stairs. Sure enough before they even reached the landing Lilith could hear the sound of choked cries and sobs. Edalyn swept into the human’s room to crouch at her side. Lilith stayed at the door and watched as her sister put a hand softly on Luz’s hair.
At her touch the human woke with a scream, and tried to pull herself away, before she realized who it was. Luz’s hands ran over Edalyn’s ears and her forearms, as if she had to confirm for herself that she was no longer the Owl Beast. Edalyn pulled Luz onto her lap and held her tight while the girl sobbed into her hair. She rubbed her back as her sobs slowed then stilled.
“I’m ok Luz. You saved me. You saved me Luz.” Edalyn kept a constant stream of soft reassurances until the girl had cried herself out. With some difficulty Edalyn stood, Luz still in her arms. She glanced briefly at King and Lilith. “I think we would all be more comfortable sleeping in a nest tonight.”
She walked out of the room, carrying Luz, King right behind her as she walked to her own bedroom. At the door she looked back to where Lilith still hadn’t moved and nodded her head towards the room. Lilith followed, relief and guilt battling inside her.
Edalyn set Luz down in her nest, then laid down next to her to pull the blanket over them both. King jumped on top of them, curling up half on Luz have on Edalyn. Owlbert nestled into Edalyn’s gray hair. Lilith laid down next to her sister, and shifted for a bit to get comfortable on the nest. She could hear Luz whispering in her native tongue to Edalyn, though she wasn’t sure if her sister even understood the language.
Sleep in time came for each of them. Owlbert and King slept as soon as they were comfortable surrounded by their nest mates. Luz’s murmuring slipped away until there was just the sound of her quiet breathing. As soon soon as Luz was asleep Edalyn curled up protectively around her human and was asleep in a moment. Lilith took longer to fall asleep, but eventually found herself curled up in a small part of the nest and slept until well after dawn.
When Lilith woke up she was surprised to find that someone had tucked an additional blanket around her while she slept. She doubted it was the human, who could barely stand to face her sometimes, and the demon was entirely too short to manage it. She smiled at the soft blanket, before pulling it off so she could start the day.

Midnight Striga: Fairy Tail/Owl House Cross Fic Episode 6 Part 2
Hello, and once again, welcome back to midnight Striga! Thanks for reading!
With a shout, Eda gripped the arm, slamming the attached body onto the ground. Looming over the hooded figure now gasping on the ground, Eda growled. “Now listen here you sneaky bastard, I don’t know who you are but you caaaaaaannnnnnn!?” She trailed off from her threat, shock rising as the hood fell back.
“Oh, hello, Edalyn!” The old woman cheered, flipping herself up and onto her feet. In a blink, she rushed in, pulling a frozen-stiff Eda into a bearhug. “I have so much news to tell you about!”
Luz blinked, eyes flicking between the two, before the features clicked. Eyes widening, she shot Eda a look. “So… this is your mom?” She asked, pointing at the woman.
Shaking herself back into the present, Eda groaned, lightly shoving the woman away. “Yes, unfortunately.” Giving a deep sigh, Eda turned to Luz, gesturing to the woman next to her. “Luz, meet my mother, Gwendolyn Clawthorne, and one of the single most recurring pains in my butt. Speaking of which,” She turned to Gwen, scowling, “What do you want, mom?”
Gwen gave a beaming grin, tilting her head in apparent thought. “Is it really such a shock that a mother would want to see her daughter?” She asked, neither aware of the way Luz tensed at her question. Both Gwen and Luz reeled back at the response she got, however.
“Yes.” Eda bit out, intense bitterness coating her voice. Standing firm, she put both hands on her hips, head tilted up in anger. “Everytime… EVERYTIME!! You’ve visited me since I’ve been living on my own, it’s been to try some cockamayme cure for my curse. And they. Never. Work!! So yeah, I’d say it’s reasonable to be a little skeptical.” She finished, panting slightly at the exertion of her outburst, lightly covering part of her wrist, and the feathers underneath.
Luz desperately held in the urge to shout at Eda for talking about the woman before her like that, but she could grudgingly admit to seeing where she was coming from. However, neither of them were fully prepared for Gwen’s reaction. Gwen gave a tired sigh, a sad smile forming across her features. “I do suppose I deserved that.” She chuckled, reaching up to Eda’s face, tracing a hand across her jaw, much to her daughter’s discomfort. “I promise, Edalyn, I just want to talk. That’s all. Please?”
Eda bit her lip, conflicted. On the one hand, she was sick and tired of being burned by her mother’s antics… and on the other hand, she was sick of her family being in pain, and was honestly wanting to have genuine quality time with her mother for once. Deciding to take the risk and just bite the bullet, Eda sighed, relenting. “Okay, fine! We can talk.” She said, throwing up her hands in exasperation. Turning a raised eyebrow to Luz, Eda asked, “You want in on this, kid?”
Seeing the two witches giving her matching looks of inquisitiveness, Luz blinked, before rapidly shaking her head. “Oh no!” Pointing to Eda, she continued, “You need this a lot more than I do at the moment, and, if that brief back and forth was any indicator, the two of you have enough issues to work through WITHOUT me being thrown in.” She stated, stepping back, arms raised. Shooting Eda a brave smirk, “Don’t worry, I’ll just make a day of it in town. I mean,” she shrugged, “I’ve kinda got to get used to people being suspicious of me in public all over again, why not start now?”
Coming to an agreement (“If you die, I’m selling all your stuff!” “Love ya too, Eda!), the group headed their separate ways, promising to catch up later. Gwen giddily dragged Eda along, who was personally torn between annoyance at the manhandling, and amusement at her mother’s amusement. “Yeesh, calm down, Gwen! You’re gonna rip my arm off!” Eda half-joked. Gwen’s yanks actually did have a real chance of removing her arms, but it’s not like that was a problem with her condition, really.
“Oh, I’m sorry dear, I’m just so excited!” Gwen squealed, a sheepish grin filling her face. “I just…” Her smile turned sad, “I just really wanted to see you.”
Eda gave her own sad laugh. “Don’t worry, I can understand the feeling.” Her mind flashed back to how she was after she and Raine split up, all the nights she wished they were back, wanting to see them. A thought came to her. “Hey, I just noticed… where’s Hawksley?” She asked.
Gwen gave her a mischievous wink. “Oh, he’s just looking after our other guest.”
Eda shot her a look of bafflement. “Other guest!? What are- oh no.” She groaned, as realization set in. Turning her gaze, she was in no way surprised to see Lilith, glumly slumped over a table before them, Hawksley perched on top of her head. What did shock Eda, however, was the bottle of Appleblood Lilith was chugging. Turning accusing eyes towards an unrepentant Gwen, Eda shouted. “SERIOUSLY!?”
Cheerfully whistling to herself, Luz strolled along, using the noise of her whistling to tune out the whispers and muttering all around her. It was honestly a neat trick, but she was well aware it wouldn’t work forever, especially if she ended somewhere more crowded. Scanning the area, Luz was disappointed, if unsurprised, by the sight of parents tucking their kids behind them as she moved past. It hurt. It was understandable, but it still hurt.
Sighing, Luz slipped into the shadows, rolling her eyes when the sounds of the main streetside picked up in volume at her ‘departure.’ Still, the sheer amount of gossip was entertaining, if only for the wild speculations and rantings of the more… colorful members of the local communities. Seriously, her? A shapeshifting giraffe seeking to supplant the Emperor through a false army of Abominations wrapped in Illusions? Pfft! She was gonna have to tell Eda that one, preferably when she was trying to drink something!
Laughing internally at the thought of an Owl Lady Spit Take, Luz tightened her movements against the wall. Her ears pricked at the sounds up ahead; it didn’t sound like the usual rampant paranoia. And if she focused enough, she was almost certain…
“Look, I know things are… really crazy right now.” Amity’s voice sounded out, confirming Luz’s suspicions. “But I honestly think this’ll be good for all of us. The Moonlight Conjuring is an important aspect of our culture, and is a funtime all around. If you all show up while it’s still daylight, nothing should go wrong.” Moonlight Conjuring? Hmm… something to talk with Eda about.
“B-But what if those Oroboros creeps attack again!? I can’t put my parents through that!” An unfamiliar voice questioned, concerned murmurs of agreement sounding in response.
Amity’s voice sighed. “I… I know it’s scary. The things I saw at the Covention, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget, not entirely.” Her voice took a melancholy note, before firming. “But in a way, that’s why we have to do this!” At the sounds of confusion, she continued. “That attack was supposed to make us afraid, to make us all panic. Something that it’s managed in spades all across the Isles. But for all that Oroboros is powerful, it’s an organization with a finite amount of resources. They can’t be everywhere at once, and no organization would commit precious resources to attack a party for school youths!” The nervousness died down, replaced with cautious contemplation. Luz gave a little smirk; Miss Blight apparently had a way with words, and some serious charisma if they were already changing their tune.
“I’ll go.” A familiar voice said. It took Luz a moment to place it; it was the voice of that girl who Boscha had burned! Her voice spoke up again. “If you can find someone to protect us, just in case, I’ll go.”
“W-Well, that’s fantastic!” Amity said, faux-excitedly. If Luz had to guess, her friend speaking up had caught her flat-footed, and she was trying to get things under control. “And I know just the person to do so! If you all show up before sundown, I promise, on the Blight name, you’ll all have an amazing time!” At that, all potential opposition crumbled, a chorus of agreements and cheers going up. As sounds of footsteps headed off, Luz peaked around the corner. She saw Amity, jerkily waving goodbye to her… friends? Acquaintances? Her face stretched into a plastic smile.
Suddenly, Amity rammed her head against the wall, knocking her forehead against the stone repeatedly, frustrated grumbles coming forth. “Stupid. Stupid. Stupid! Oh, I’ll find someone to guard us, everyone! Leave everything to Amity, everyone! I swear it on my family name!” She slapped her hand against her face. “Titan, what was I thinking!?”
“I don’t think you were.” Luz dryly noted, walking out from her pseudo-hiding place. Amity leapt back, startled. Luz noted how quickly she shifted into a ready position, one arm pulled back to cast, the other slightly pressed forward to defend herself, legs prepped to spring to either side and out of the way. She was honestly impressed, the girl had some athletic experience.
“Oh! It’s you!” Amity exclaimed, relaxing slightly, if not fully. “Luz, correct?” She said, more than asked, extending a hand for a shake. Smirking, Luz complied, giving the girl a firm grip, Amity’s eyes widening at the painless pressure. Schooling her features into a cordial smile, she grinned. “It’s a pleasure to see you again.”
“Really?” Luz asked, blinking rapidly. She had honestly not been expecting that. She cocked her head. “I kind of expected you to be some level of scared of me.”
“Oh, don’t worry, what you represent terrifies me.” Amity said frankly, the sheer honesty in her voice drawing a surprised snort out of Luz. “However,” Amity continued, her eyes focusing on Luz. “I gained a look into your measure during the Covention. You are wild, independant, and freely and liberally resort to violence even faster than Witches and Demons do. But you’re also loyal, caring, compassionate, and understanding, with a strong sense of duty. While I find you puzzling, your traits are those that I find commendable.”
“HA! Glad to hear.” Luz smirked. Her face shifted into a serious frown, contemplative. “You know, I overheard your little problem. So,” She grinned cheekily, “You need to find a bodyguard, eh?”
“Ugh! Please don’t use that phrase!” Amity near-pleaded, hiding her face in her hands. “My family has been going nuts over my safety. I am honestly lucky that they let me go into town without an armed guard of Abominations!”
Luz snorted, blinking at the mental image of Abominations skulking around Bonesburough, scanning for threats and hovering over an annoyed Amity. “Wow, over-protective, much?”
Amity exhaustedly nodded. “Yeah. My parents… aren’t the best, but they do care about me. Even if they care about our image more.” She said, muttering the last part spitefully. Shaking her head, she refocused on the original topic. “But yes, I need someone who’s willing to stand guard for me and those I plan on inviting to my Conjuring.”
“What about me?”
Amity blinked. “I’m sorry?”
“What about having me be your guard?” Luz elaborated, shrugging. “I’ve got combat experience, free time, and you won’t have to pay me!”
“That’s-!” Amity started, before pausing. She brought her fingers to her chin, eyes narrowed in thought. “That could actually work.”
“Really?” Luz asked, cocking her head. “The offer was serious, but I wasn’t actually expecting you to agree.”
Amity gave a grave smile, nodding. “Indeed, I’m willing to agree to this. If you don’t have any requirements?” She asked, eyebrows raised.
Luz paused, thinking. “If you could invite Willow and Gus, I’d really appreciate it.” She finally said.
“Done.” Amity said decisively, typing up the messages on her scroll. “That honestly works out rather well; ever since their actions at the Covention, their popularity has sky-rocketed and my friends have been wondering about meeting with them so this is an excellent opportunity. If that’s all, I will see you at my home before sunset; you can ask Willow and Augustus for directions.” WIth that said, she turned on her heel, marching off. Luz shook her head at Amity’s antics, before turning to leave herself. Neither noticed the group of individuals perched on a nearby building, the apparent leader’s eyes tracking Luz’s every movement.
“Of course,” Eda muttered, staring in resignation at the sight of her sister, chugging away on the table in front of her. Shooting an accusing stare towards Gwen, Eda moodily stomped over, plopping herself down from across her sister, glaring at her.
“EeeeDalyn?” Lilith blearily asked, words slurring slightly. She hiccuped, bottle awkwardly cradled in her hand, the other bracing her against the table. “Since when are you purple?” She muttered.
“Purple?” Eda said incredulously. She turned to Gwen, concerned. “Is it me, or is she…?”
“Absolutely wasted? No, it isn’t you, she really is.” Gwen noted dryly, casually yanking the bottle of Appleblood out of Lilith’s hands, ignoring her weak protests. “I dragged her out of her barracks, kicking and screaming. I believe a few of the Coven Guards who tried to stop me may be in need of Healing. Now, we are going to take the time to stop, think, and figure things out. As a family.” She said firmly, arms crossed.
The bitter snort came from Lilith, of all people, much to Eda and Gwen’s shock. “A-A family.” She chuckled, swaying lightly. “Is that what we are?” She laughed again, slapping the table. “And here I thought we were a bunch of strangers, pretending we CaReD about each other!!”
Gwen and Eda shared unsettled looks. Gwen hesitantly spoke up. “Now, Little Flea, I know I’ve been… distant, but-”
“DO NOT CALL ME THAT!!” Lilith shrieked, eyes wild, before calming down. “I-I haven’t been ‘Little Flea,’” She muttered derisively, “Since you abandoned me!” She accused, fist pounding against the table.
“Abandon!?” Eda exclaimed, confused and alarmed at her estranged sister’s behavior. “Sis, I don’t know what’s been going on with you, but how has Gwen abandoned you?”
Eda reeled back at the bitter anger in Lilith’s face. “She never came to my induction into the Coven, did you know that?” She said, “She never showed up for any of my promotions, any of my awards, anything!! She just, up and left!” Lilith laughed, a bitter, hollow sound. “And here, I learned that she’s been visiting you for Years!! Trying to cure you!”
Gwen’s eyes grew misty. “I have made mistakes, and I apologize for that, Lilybug.” She said, reaching out towards Lilith, unconcerned when she slapped her hand away. “You were always so strong, so independent. I never meant to ignore you. I’m sorry if I hurt you because of it. But that’s why I dragged you both here!” She pleaded, glancing at the two of them. She wrung her hands in nervousness. “I just didn’t want to fail the two of you again. I know I can’t fix the pain between the two of you, and I don’t expect to. I just wanted to get you two together to hash out some ground rules, if that’s okay?” She explained, a hesitant note at the end
Eda and Lilith shared a glance, a moment of grudging understanding passing between them.
Eda turned to her mother first. “Okay, I guess we can do that. But if you’re serious about being in my life for real, I don’t want you coming around with crazy cures anymore.” Her voice took on a tender note. “If you’re gonna come over, I just want it to be so we can spend some time together, okay?”
“And I’d prefer you to visit me AT ALL!” Lilith shouted, some of the slurring fading from her voice. Eda was honestly surprised at how quickly she was recovering; a glance at her neck, and the Healing Glyph tagged onto it explained much; it was forcibly purging the Appleblood from her body, getting her back to normal. Eda winced; Lilith was going to feel like HELL when that thing wore off. “I want you to visit me, ask me about my day, take an interest in my Life!!” Tears pricked at Lilith’s eyes. “I want my mother back!” She pleaded.
Gwen turned a watery smile towards the two of them. “I think I can manage those requests.” She said, a pleased smile on her face. She grew serious. “Now then, If we are going to act like a family, as a whole that is, I am going to be doing my motherly duties, and establishing some rules for the two of you.” She stated, nodding even as her daughters groaned. She continued, ignoring their annoyance. “The rules are simple; Eda, you are to no-longer deliberately antagonize Lilith. If the two of you run into one another, you are to keep a civil attitude and in no way try to anger or upset her. Lilith, you are to cease your attitude in attempting to bring Edalyn in under the guise of being cured. If Edalyn is brought in, it is to be because she is a criminal and flouting the law, not out of an inane desire to cure her. Besides, I strongly doubt Belos would do so in the first place.” She finished, feeling a smug satisfaction at her daughters’ matching look of dumbfounded shock.
“B-But! He promised me!” Lilith said, whined really. “He gave me his word!!”
Eda groaned, even as Gwen raised an eyebrow. “Lilith, Belos’ regime is built on his Coven System, something Eda’s very existence stands in challenge to,” She said gently, “There are no circumstances in which he will EVER cure her. If you bring her in, he will have her thrown into the Conformatorium, and nothing more. He has all the leverage, and all the authority, and you have nothing that could compel him into curing her at your behest.”
Lilith shakily pulled herself to her feet, staggering off, a mumbled excuse echoing as she rapidly walked off, tears in her eyes. Gwen sighed. That had gone about as well as she’d been expecting.
Eda turned an impressed look towards Gwen. “Well dang, Mom! Didn’t know you were such a rebel!”
Gwen shot her daughter an unimpressed look. “I’m not.” She said primly.
Eda had a look of disbelief. “Really? Because you didn’t have a problem calling out Bonehead on his crap.” She said snarkily.
“That is because I am under no delusions as to his nature.” She said, “Belos’ rise to power and initial rule was tyrannical and cold, utterly without mercy. I, and many others, chose to join his burgeoning power because it was literally either him or complete chaos and anarchy. Not everyone can survive it as well as you, Edalyn.” She said archly, almost daring her to protest.
Eda opened her mouth to do just that, but paused, considering. Ultimately, she sighed, pushing herself away from the table. “Yeah, that’s true. I still hate him, and I always will, but I can get why people shacked up with him, even if I disagree with him on principle.” She grudgingly, painfully admitted. Giving her mother a level look. “This, as short, weird, and awkward as it’s been, was nice. I really hope you keep in touch for real, okay?” She said softly, before walking away.
Gwen just smiled, tears of relief and sadness filling her eyes. It wasn’t much… but it was a start.

Chamomile {Part III}
Eda and Amity share a cup of tea.
In front of her, her chin resting upon sharp and well kept nails, her eyes that had seen so much so intense, the Owl Lady, Edalyn Clawthorne, watched in expectancy, hardened eyes. Her posture relaxed still, no overt animosity. At least none directed towards the girl, the woman seemed to simply try to convey the weight behind the question, to tell the young Blight that all sincerity was needed now. She was face to face with the still most powerful witch in the whole of the Boiling Isles. No loss of magic, no curse, no cheap tricks her enemies pulled off would ever change that. Magic was not the cause for her overwhelming power, curses were no impediment, tricks were no obstacles for a woman such as this. The surrogate mother of the one who changed Amity in so short a period sat in front of her. The queen, sat upon her throne, undisputed with her crown above her head, awaited for Amity, the Blight,’s answer.
Amity took a long sip of her cup of chamomile, still hot enough, but not scalding anymore. There was no right nor wrong answer to a question like that. Emboldened by the warm drink, her Blight composure, her heritage, restored. Amity chose to take yet another leap of faith, a firm unwavering voice offered.
“I am Amity Blight. A student at Hexside, top of the class in the abomination track. Sister to Edric and Emira Blight. Daughter to Alador and Odalia. Used to be captain of the Banshees. I used to dream about joining the Emperor’s coven. I used to have light brown hair, but that’s green now. And a witch in love with a human.”
Eda’s eyes still studied the young witch. Her unchanged posture not giving away whether Amity’s answer had had any results. Still, the girl couldn’t help but to pride on her own composure. Taking a sip of her own, Eda finally answered.
“You know that none of that answers my question, don’t you? But it sounds like we’re getting there. We have time. Maybe we should keep with the theme instead. Why don’t you tell me about Willow? You messed her head real good that day of the photo class incident, you know?”
Looking off to the side, a different kind of blush coloring her pale features, Amity shrunk slightly.
“Yeah... I learned my lesson though. I won’t be messing with anyone’s memories again, I promise.”
Eda let out a chuckle.
“That’s not what I mean, kid. I mean how you messed her head after that, when you went there with Luz to fix things. I had a little chat about it with plant girl. She’s got no idea what to make of you, but, honestly, I don’t think she needs to. It should come from you, your initiative. You left the work unfinished, that’s what trying to get at. Still, I’m curious as to how the two of you got to that point. She told me what she saw there, inside her head. So did Luz. I know how it all started. That doesn’t explain how it went so far. How you, Amity Blight, allowed things to get so out of hand. And look, I’m not a cop, and in case you  didn’t know I’m not in that bastard’s coven either. This is not an interrogation, if you don’t want to answer we can just finish our tea and that’ll be it. But…”
“No, I do need to answer that though. Don’t I?” Amity blurted out, cutting Eda’s words short. “Did they tell you what my parents told me that day? About what they’d do to Willow if I didn’t cut ties with her?”
“They did. It explains a lot, but not everything.”
“I know. She was my best friend, my parents were a threat to her. I wanted to protect her.”
“By pushing her away? That hard?”
“Yeah. I mean, I was like 9 when that all happened. So I figured that if I made her not want to be around she’d eventually just go away. But… I don’t know. You’ll probably think I’ll sound crazy.”
“Try me. I’m used to crazy.”
“I… I know you have no reason to like me, I don’t understand why we’re having this conversation. It just feels so weird, and I think you’ll end up hating me by the end of it.”
“I won’t hate you kid. I promise you. That ship sailed away long ago. Look, Amity, I’ve been in your shoes before, kinda. I know where you’re coming from and I don’t plan on hating you, nor do I have the right to.”
Amity wanted to believe Eda’s words, but, in the end, whether she did so or not was entirely irrelevant and she knew it. The conversation needed to continue regardless. Even  if she couldn’t tell if it was due to fear of failure, the woman’s intimidating figure, or something else. Lifting her hands she drinks of her teacup, Luz’s human folksy wisdom, as Eda put it, seeming to be right. The tea and the image of her paramour helped her gather some much needed courage, even if the conversation clearly didn’t relate to her anymore, that still helped. Tucking a strand of green behind her ear, she continued.
“Okay then. Well… She insisted, for a while at least. A long while. Couple of years at least. Everyday she came to me during recess and I pushed her away and made her cry. And I would go back home after class, lock myself in my room and do the same until I fall asleep. And that would keep repeating, at least once every week, a cycle. I hated when that happened. And she would always approach me with this shy smile, calling me Ami as she used to. But… I was trying to bury this Ami girl, I thought I didn’t need her, worse yet, I thought this Ami girl was a danger to Willow herself. And Willow insisted on bringing her back… I…”
“You had to up the game, right?”
Eda’s motivations were still a mystery to Amity, she couldn’t fathom where this barrage of question was coming from. The did seem to come from a place of genuine interest however, way beyond idle curiosity. Whatever it was, it imbued Amity with a sense of being compelled to answer Eda’s questions. For an inscrutable reason, Amity wanted to answer. She didn’t owe Eda anything, she had no obligation to, but she wanted to answer. It was as though this nearly perfect stranger cared enough to want to hear what she had to say. Such generosity shouldn’t go unpaid.
“No, not myself at least… I had to find others and let them do it instead. I couldn’t bring myself to actually be as cruel with her as I needed, or as I thought I needed to be. But I knew people who could be just that. I tried to nudge her in the right direction, I knew her grades were slipping. Help her in a brutal way, in short that was the idea. All while surrounding myself with the people who were actually capable of hurting her. A buffer, I guess… Mother had already started dyeing my hair by that point. I tried to convince her not to, she told me tantrums were unbecoming.”
“So, that’s it? You were trying to help Willow. A twisted kind of tough love? Why can’t you bring yourself to look at me while you’re telling me all this if that’s the case?”
“No… That’s not all. I think... I lost sight of things in the mean time.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“I don’t know. I just... I couldn’t see Willow anymore. Like, literally. I wouldn’t see her face when we’d come across each other at school or in her last few attempts to approach me. Her hair was green, sometimes brown, her voice was older. And I tried to see her as her younger self sometimes. To see the girl I was trying to protect, the girl I took swimming lessons with, my best friend. My old friend. But I couldn’t anymore. She stopped calling me Ami, just Amity, or even Blight sometimes. That last one stung the first time I heard it. Anyway. I couldn’t see my friend in her anymore, I’d gotten used to pushing her away as hard as I could. It became second nature. I think the scariest part was this one day, when I suddenly realized I was at the school halls looking for her. Actively looking for her. No one in between us, just me and her. I wanted to be the one to hurt her this time. I don’t even remember what caused it, it doesn’t matter now. I was actively looking for her as a target. I think a part of me felt entitled to do all that, maybe even liked it. Yeah… I see your face, there’s no denying I liked that though. Up to a point at least. Once I realized what was happening, what I was doing, I managed to turn around and make my way back to class. But, just when I turned the very last corner. There she was, green hair and all. You can imagine how that played out. At least it wasn’t that long before Luz arrived, just a couple of months, I think.”
“What do you make of her nowadays?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think about her so often, I try not to.”
“You should. You should try to think about her as much as you can. he believed it, you know? That half-a-witch thing, she bought into it hook, line, and sinker. And then someday you just show up and turn everything upside down. You show her that she herself was not the reason for anything that happened, that she was not the reason why called herself half-a-witch for so long. I think you’ll be friends again, eventually. That, what you did when you fixed the mess you made in photo class, when you showed her what your parents did to you, that was a firm first step. But the journey before all restorations are made is much longer than just one firm first step. You need to think about her, Amity. You need to talk to her, really try and patch things up. Not just for her sake, really.”
Eda sighed, Amity couldn’t voice her cowardice, not again, especially when it came to someone who had offered this so rare courtesy. She didn’t want to disappoint Eda. Amity felt like a baby or toddler must feel when held by their parent, not that this is how she’d describe it. She couldn’t show her shame to someone like that, not with words at least, and that seemed to be a sentiment the woman was familiar with. After a long moment of pregnant silence, Eda continued.
“I get it. I really do. For what it counts I wouldn’t paint you as a monster for what happened, it wasn’t just your fault alone, you were powerless for the most part. But at the end of the day, shared guilt is guilt all the same. Whether you threw the stones, whether you threw the first one, whether you were just supplying stones for someone else to throw. At the end of the day you had a crucial part in it, and you can’t do anything about that. Those stones flew because you either let them or made them do so. Asking Willow to just forgive you, with nothing in return, that’s the same as just throwing yet another stone, straight at her face. Probably that’d be the heaviest stone yet. Let me put it this way, when you were going after Willow, or pushing her away as you put it, she wasn’t seeing anyone other that you, Amity. Not your mother, not your father, no Blights. Just you. Worse yet she probably was seeing that Ami girl you mentioned. She isn’t any older than you, after all. She may know now that that wasn’t entirely the case, but you made your choices. Wrong ones maybe, you were a child too after all. A child put into a very bad spot. But you did those mistakes, and you kept on making them for years, and she had to pay the price as much as you. But then again, Luz told me something weird about you the other day. How she caught you at the library reading to kids, putting up a whole performance. Otabin, wasn’t it? You told her it was for extra credits, right? Yeah, I don’t really buy that.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that you also made a choice there and I don’t buy that extra credits bullshit. Those kids will probably remember you as the nice and weird girl that read wholesome stories to them. You chose to let them remember you that way the same way you chose to make Willow see you as more and more of a monster.”
“I don’t… I never really put a lot of thought on that to be honest.”
“You also chose to go and play grudgby against that girl, Luz told me the two of you are, or were, friends with. Boscha, isn’t it? And you did it to defend both Luz and Willow, despite knowing full well there was likely to be some kind of backlash. And you chose to go back screaming bloody murder, jumping from nine feet up in the air – seriously, how did you even get up there? - all to help Luz fight Grom. You chose those things the same way you chose to push Willow away or to duel Luz at the covention.”
“That note, the one Grom shredded. It was meant for Luz, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, I told you that, didn’t I? Why does that matters here?”
“It matters because you also chose not to give her that note, the knowledge of your feelings for her. You chose to hide yourself from her, and then you chose to come here for this sleepover.”
Amity finally made eye contact with Eda again. Her image of the woman, from the stories she heard of the dangerous criminal, from Luz’s motherly mentor, from their few interactions before that night, was of a youthful, energetic, and powerful witch. The gray in her hair but a footnote. Now, however, the difference of age between the two of them couldn’t be ignored. She saw the wrinkles, the gray eye, matching her hair. She briefly wondered if this was how Luz saw Eda as well. For the first time Eda looked tired.
“I… didn’t want her to reject me.”
“Yeah, that’s obvious. But why did you think she would do that?”
“I just told you didn’t I? All of that, all I did to Willow. Isn’t that enough.”
“She did invite you over today, didn’t she?”
“Yes, but...”
Amity couldn’t continue with her answer.
“But...?”
“I don’t know. I really don’t. I don’t know why she decided to invite me, why she wanted to be my friend despite everything I did to Willow, and even to her. I know that I can’t have left the best first impression.”
“She still invited you though. She chose to. Why would she reject you?”
“Its not… Its not like that, I guess. You’re right, she’s not the type to just turn her back. I love that about her. But I can’t help the feeling that if she knew me, really knew me, she’d do just that. Just turn around and leave me behind. And we were still just starting to become friends then, so there’s that.”
She tucks her hair behind her ear once more. If Eda had tried to keep track of how many times Amity had done that she’d sure have lost count by now. But seeing the older witch leaning towards her with a kind smile, placing her hand in her shoulder, squeezing it lightly but firmly, she doubt she had made such attempt.
“Kid, I gotta tell you. That’s by far the dumbest thing you’ve said all night.”
